A Thousand Times...THANK YOU for this video!!! My relatively new printer (have not even gone through my initial supply of ink!) started not printing in black and I couldn't figure out why. I performed all of the "cartridge cleaning" steps and whatever else was suggested in the printer app. Then, went online after finally figuring out the error code and researched a couple of different videos on repairing the issue. SOOOOOO frustrated that this video wasn't one of the first 4 or 5 that popped up on my screen. After trying to put the printer in service mode multiple times according to the other sources instructions and getting nowhere, I finally gave up in frustration. The printer has been sitting on my desk for a few months now and I finally got so desperate that I was planning to go out THIS afternoon to purchase a new one after doing a little research. Decided to try to fix our printer one last time and looked up the error code again. This time, the same few videos I had watched the first time popped up, but because I could tell that I had already viewed them previously, I went to the next one. THIS ONE!!! Worked the first time. I can not believe how easy it was and how much time I wasted on the previous ones. So very frustrating. THANK YOU for your very thorough explanation and description of what to expect. I'm bookmarking this one!
Great help & thank you! For anyone struggling to get it into maintenance mode, I had to do a hard reset (unplug machine while on) before attempting to enter maintenance. This machine absolutely would not go into "Maintenance Mode" just from holding "Stop" then holding "Power". Did hard reset, plugged back in, held "Stop" then held "Power"...and so on. Worked perfectly after that!
Thank you so much for this video. The only one that actually gave correct info on how to put the printer in service mode and press the buttons the correct amount of times. Here in Brazil there are so many people making 15 minutes videos giving a lot of wrong info, it sucks. Even printer store attendants gave us a lot of BS! Thnks again, mate
@@thecollegepicker I logged in to say the same thing except I'm in the U.S. and the other videos are just as bad as the commenter said were in Brazil. This video is the only one that gave the right directions. I was about to toss my printer out the window before I saw this. It's almost back to normal! Thank you!!
I called Cannon Support after paying $20 fee. They were no help, said my 5B00 error code was not fixable. The only thing they offered me was a 10% discount on certain models of new Cannon printer for me to purchase! Thank you SO MUCH, your instructions worked on my 1st try. If someone like me, a 76 year old can follow your instructions, anyone can!
I used your reset advice on my Canon G3501. It worked absolutely fine and we are now back printing. This saved me a "quoted" repair fee of £200.00 here in the UK...Thank you so much.
Thankfully yours was the first video that the Google algorithm chose. Very well done. So congrats! Worked great on my Pixma G2200. As another viewer commented.... the % waste ink read D=063.6 when I received the 5B00 error. Now reads 0 and is workinig fine again. Like yours, I love this "no cartridge" printer and want to nurse it along another 6 years.
Wow! Thank you so much. I have a Cannon Pixma G3200, went printer shopping today, then decided to check out RUclips for a fix and luckily found your video. You saved me some big cheddar, thank you! 👊
I literally started my car and was letting it warm up when i decided to try one last video to get my pixma G1200 to stop giving me this error. You fixed it and probabaly saved me a few bills. Thanks so much!
Worked 1st time & only video showing how to fix the exact problem I was having with my Canon G1200. Numerous others showed how to remove, clean & replace saturated ink pads but none addressed how to reset the ink pad stats thus my printer was still a brick. This was the only video that gave instructions how to reset saturation % to "0" thus allowing the printer to return to normal service. Canon's solution was to purchase a new G1220 for $200. Thx!!!
A very heartfelt thank you!! In the wee hours of the morning, the printer wouldn't print with proper colour so I topped up all the tanks and cleaned the heads .... but after that - just a symphony of error lights flashing at me, and no print - Grrr!!! Checked the usual - no apparent problem yet still no print. Your video was so very useful, and even though my D = 063.6, I was finally able to get the printer out of service mode and use it again normally. Again, Thank you very much from Brisbane Ausralia, the video was an enormous help to me! 😁💐
I have a Canon Pixma G3202 printer and this process worked! Thank You!!!!! I do want to note I had to have the printer print aout a new report the 1st time I did not do that and it went back into error mode, so I had to go back thru and after the printer printed d 0000 I had to then print a report! The 1st time I did not do this and the printer still thought the over flow was full. Make sure you print another report after the printer prints the d 0000 level page.
I actually had to hit power first then stop 5 times to enter the service mode. Same model as yours pixma ts9520, no idea why - none the less appreciate the video/work you share.
I have a G4210 and this worked perfectly except I had to press power (hold it down) and then press reset 5 times. My colors were not printing well so I did maintenance to deep clean, nozzle check, etc. Then came 5B00. Drove me nuts until I found your video. Thank you!
Thank you. I have a G4210 also and this worked. so thank you! Did you change the ink pad sponges that collect the flushed ink? I did and hope they work.
Worked on my G4210, but to get into service mode it was holding the "Color" button + Power...only to enter service mode. After that, everything was as per your vid. Thank you!
I have a G4510 and this worked for me, although to put the model into service mode I had to press the reset/power buttons slightly differently. Instead of holding down reset, you don't to begin with! You press power (hold it down) and then press reset 5 times. That did the job.
You are 100% right .. I had no luck with the above procedure until I found your helpful comment. Thank you so much for making the effort to do so . The procedure removed the 5B00 error but print was blank . I will next pull the pads out and clean/ dry. Mine was also the G4510.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have the G4411 and it definitely does not go into Service Mode according to the video but as per your instructions I was able to stop banging my head against the wall! You legend you!
You rock, man, great job, clear video and directions. Bought replacement waste ink pads off the web, replaced the saturated ones (super easy) and was struggling to reset the printer until I found your video. All good now, back in business for a few more years, suck it Canon! Thxs again.
This was about the 3rd video I tried and the only one that worked! My G3501 now works again and I don't have to buy a new printer. Thank you very much.
Thankyou so much. My Cannon G3501 pack up withthe 5b00 error. Just the ink pads and they were full of ink. Still whenever I turned it on kept flashing 7 times green & amber. So glad I found your video. Going to get a waste tank to try and bypass the ink pads and go straight in the bottle. Thankyou
PIxma G3200 was "printing" blank sheets. Followed your protocol and it was still printing blanks. Did a "deep clean" and now is printing normally. Thank you!

Glad others found it helpful. My printer wouldn’t go into service mode. I have a G4210 and I’m thinking it’s something either I’m doing wrong or it’s with the printer.
Great! Dankeschön!!! Your Video helped very much and our printer Canon G4100 works again.😊 5 minutes later and my husband would have bought a new printer. 😮
Yes!!!!!! Thank you for this video, yours was the only one that actually did it the right way. It worked. I would not have been able to use the printer again if you did not show us the right way to reset it.
This video is a godsend! Trying to print stuff for my daughters bday and I get this dreaded message and nothing worked! Instantly started working after I followed this! Canon G1200
BRILLIANT! Worked well for Canon G4600 Pixma. Many thanks . My printer is now printing better than it has in ages, Crystal clear text and bright colours.
Hi, worked eventually for my G4510, first it wouldn't go into service mode whilst using the correct sequence. After taking out power cord for 3 minutes the service code sequence worked and i was able to reset the waste counter 🙂
This helped with my G4411 - the only difference is to get to service mode you need to press colour instead of the stop button and then follow the steps as per the video
Thanks for posting this, I have the exact same printer and, so far, I cannot get this fix to work. I have tried everything and the PRINTER will NOT enter service mode! I've tried unplugging/replugging, holding the buttons, taking the paper out, and no matter what once I release the STOP button while holding the POWER, only the POWER LED comes on, pressing the STOP does nothing and the printer turns on and gives me the same error - I'm losing my mind!
I had the same error 5B00 on my Canon 4100. I followed the steps and problem solved. It actually even resolved a problem I had that it wouldn't print the colors correctly. Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I had watched other videos one i couldn't understand and thought it was going to be a giant paper weight! Now my printer works again!
You Rock!!! Well, I say that without having actually tried this yet (because I am using another workaround until it quits, plus I have a (3 yr old) Pixma 3620, but I am optimistic plus I thought you were very funny :) . Mahalo! (Thank you - I live in Honolulu)
Thank you for your video. My didn't go to second option, to 3 times command, it's stopped , no reaction to anything. What can it be, and what can I do?
Thank you . Ive just managed to get it going. Problem is if you don’t use the printer for a long time then you have to flush the ink to get the printer working again.
This video instruction worked for my Pixma G4200. I do not know the actual status of the ink sponge , but it did reset the dreaded 5B00 code and printer is operable again. My printer was new in September 2018. I have since bought a G7200 as replacement but was still keen to troubleshoot the 4200. I will try to weigh in on the future of this machine.
This is going to sound weird but I had the same problems you dealt with. The black all of sudden wouldn't work. Now I figured there was a pressure issue with pump. So I sucked out out air from the tube on the back. I believe it equalized the pressure and I was right. Black worked fine after I did this.
Thanks a ton. My D value was showing as 63.6. Still I continued the next steps. Then it showed d=000.0. After that it worked fine. My model Canon Pixma G3000
WOW what a wonderful breakthrough. It worked on a PIXIMA 922 (my 5th such printer) The error code was B200 which was equivalent to last rights. Anyway, your power up then 5 stop presses cleared it up. It ran a very lengthy cleaning then printed flawlessly. Thanks again!
I have a Pixma G4210 and when I hold the stop button and then hold start, while still holding start as instructed, and pressing stope 5 times, nothing happens. EDIT: I hooked it to the computer, still it wasn't going into maintenance mode. I kept trying and then it decided it was going to work and then I followed the instructions given here and it worked. Thank you so much!
Great video ... well worth watching and following . I have a Canon G3501 all in one. I had the error 5B00 and so the printer would not work. So, I followed the video and .... my printer is back working. Sad to hear these manufacturers have these tricks up their sleves to get us to keep chucking money at them. Canon want around £100 to fix. Thankyou to thecollegepicker!

by far the simpliest, best description and fix for the 5B00 error code
Yep!. G4600 that had been turned off for about 3 years. To perform a full service I had done three additional things. 1. Unplugged yellow ink container and emptied yellow ink container that had had magenta ink erroneously inserted by completely by inverting my G4600 printer over the lawn, reinverting and filling with water/Simple Green mixture, after letting stand for 10 minutes, reinverting again to empty out water mixture over the lawn again, then and inserting yellow ink ok to quarter height and resealing cap 2. Opening rear door using star screwdriver (x2 screws only) then removing all four completely sodden sponges, cleaning with water/Simple Green mixture in a sonic cleaner for two 20 minute sessions, drying out all four on clothes line over two days, then reinserting all four fitted sponges ok (they only go in one way as a simple jigsaw puzzle) and then reassembling by rescrewing rear panel back on. 3 Removing print heads and sonic cleaning them as well for two 20 minute sessions. Note the sponges have a natural dark grey colour once all the black ink was removed to indicate they are clear again. So after reassembly, followed these instructions by the collegepicker ok to remove the error code.
Thank you mate I did what you told and my printer is back to work now. Many thanks
Worked on my G3200 Thanks!!! All the other videos had a wrong sequence for the service mode you are my hero!!!

Thank you for the fix!! The instruction missing in other's videos was to have paper in the printer.
Thanks Mate! It worked for my printer: Canon PIXMA G4100. Now I have to figure out why the color inks aren´t working. I´ve changed all the ink heads (color and black) but only red is functioning. Will check out the rest of your videos to see if there is any solutions.

I've tried unplugging/replugging, holding the buttons, taking the paper out, and no matter what once I release the STOP button while holding the POWER, only the POWER LED comes on, pressing the STOP does nothing and the printer turns on and gives me the same error - I'm losing my mind!
Thank you so much!! Worked on my G1200
Took a few tries, but it works for the G4210.
Thanks!
I had the same error 5B00 on my Canon 4100. I followed the steps and problem solved. It actually even resolved a problem I had that it wouldn't print the colors correctly. Thanks!
You are welcome.
Obwohl mein Englisch nicht so gut ist hat es super funktioniert. Habe einen Canon PIXMA G3501. Danke sehr!
De nada =)
Worked for my Canon Pixma 3200. Thank you for your video.
Thank you so much!! I had watched other videos one i couldn't understand and thought it was going to be a giant paper weight! Now my printer works again!
It worked for me on G1200 Thank you so much! keep those video's coming!
Your fix worked on my G4600 as per your video. Thanks from Australia
What can it be, and what can I do?
thanks alot for this video, it worked for my printer G4010
The codes worked great. Thanks. (lots of sketchy other videos out there that ask you to use their software. Dont use them. )
Oh good! Glad you got it going 🙌🙌
Do you know if this procedure will work with the G7020?
Thank you so much...i've solved my problem by following your instructions
Totally worked! Thank you!
Worked for my G3000. a lot of other videos and how tos did not .. this one did. Thanks!
🤝 good work ☺️
I have a Pixma G4210 and when I hold the stop button and then hold start, while still holding start as instructed, and pressing stope 5 times, nothing happens.
EDIT: I hooked it to the computer, still it wasn't going into maintenance mode. I kept trying and then it decided it was going to work and then I followed the instructions given here and it worked. Thank you so much!
Thank you! worked for Canon Pixma G4400
You are welcome
I tried 4 or 5 different tutorials, this one fixed my Canon pixma 2200, thank you!
Glad you got it going!
