I first got a storm king version, and it just felt and looked clunky on my foot. Returned for a R&R Captain in the matte black, and it looks and feels so much sleeker.
I have both. I have the black matte captain in the standard and they’re comfortable but they do tire my feet more. In the storm king sole I have the captain whiskey color that is chrome leather and those are more comfortable. I use them for work. I just recently got the black matte Chelsea with the storm king and I wear them every day now. Super comfortable
I usually wear my storm kings everywhere I go. But if you plan on walking a lot, at least a couple miles exploring a city for example, they aren't the boots to do it in. Wear comfy sneakers.
I always find your channel informative, but I really would have appreciated some insight into how they perform on ice and snow. I was never able to find many people who have actually tested that.
Work well in the snow ❄️ and ice…. And are warm here in Iowa colds weather… wore them last winter daily … super warm with a Marino wool sock in minus degree cold weather!!!
@@christiancarreon412 as a Canadian, vans are sufficient if you're careful. They've got no ice traction once the waffle fills up with snow, but you don't need it if you're just careful. Wet floors are worse than ice any day imo
You mentioned that one is the rugged and resilient, and one is stormking. And you’re right there aren’t many differences, but it is worth noting that the classic captains use the encore last, and these two use the kingmaker. They don’t fit the same. They are both fine, but I prefer the encore for sure.
I just can't decide between the black matte and the gray matte. At first I had my heart set on the explorer but ik how picky I am, so I'm not sure I'm gonna enjoy my shoe being that far up leg.
2 years later and the storm kings have color options that the standard doesn't. I was forced to go with stormking because I wanted the matte grey. (Just now saw the Majors have distressed grey and I would have with with those instead)
I like the tread on the storm king but I like the lighter color option of the captain. I hike a lot and was wondering if the sole on the captain has enough grip or is it slippery in wet conditions ?
in wintery conditions or even in autumn with wet leaves on the tarmac, the standard sole and especially the heel is slippery. this is why I’m thinking about the storm king line.

hey nice video; i need your advice. the sole on my new captain boot is not flat and it wobbles front to back. just the left boot; the right one sits flat. will the left one flatten out with wear or should i return it?
I'm an affiliate with Thursday and have that disclosed at the bottom of the video notes, so for anyone that clicks the link I provide and buys, I earn a small commission from Thursday. I'm not paid directly by Thursday to do any of these reviews, nor do they get to look at or make suggestions on any of the content I put out regarding their brand. Just to be as transparent as possible, I'm an affiliate with just about every boot brand you'll see on this channel---even the ones I dislike and give negative reviews. Being an affiliate for various brands doesn't change my opinion on any brand, and I believe that honesty and earning your trust is more important than any sales for any brand. But having the affiliate relationship does allow me to earn enough to buy more boots from different brands and create honest review videos for you! I hope this answers your question and makes sense!
@@BootSpy Ok thanks for the response. I just wanted to get clarity as I see on a couple of forums people saying "you can't trust boot reviewers to give objective opinions as they are all paid shills" but I watch Bootspy and Stridewise and find them very detailed and objective overviews and would be disappointed if your views did not reflect your genuine and unbiased opinions. To me I get the impression that you guys really just like the overall value and performance of Thursday boots.
Very nice boots and interesting video. I prefer the design of normal sole but in an other review you do, the shoe seems to be very flexible. Due to hallux rigidus , less the shoe is flexible better is it. I believe that Stormking should be more rigid... Do you confirm that asumption or even with Stormking it's very flexible ? Best and thanks for the review !
Between these two, I would choose stormking. But in general I like a wedge sole for working. You may want to check out the Thursday diplomat, which has a great vibrant wedge sole
Thanks for doing this review. I've been considering a Storm King Captain (either Dark Olive or the Grey Matte). I have the Black Matte Captain and the Midnight Suede Captain already.
I do every day. The regular captains and the stormking version both work fine, however, I would stay away from the Logger Boot version, the heel is a little too long and gets caught up while shifting.
That's nice but redwings don't have the same style of Thursdays, they look like clown shoes and super wide, Thursdays just look sleek, skinny, ofc my opinion but
I have the REAL diplomats the original ones before they got the weird ugg boot style soles and I'd like to get a pair of the storm kings cause the studded bottoms are a bit sketchy in wet icy climates
Macklemore does boot reviews?

I noticed the Stormking sole is only glued on, not stitched. Is this a concern for longevity or for resoling?
Same question...
No, gluing new soles on is extremely simple and common. The base of the sole is still stitched, it's just the lug portion thats glued to it.

Placed my order for the Storm King yesterday. I'm a wide size so tobacco was the only option but it's a great colour.
I have both. I weighed them both and surprisingly the normal sole was heavier by a little. Stormking is definitely better suited for winter.

Yea I’m considering the green!
Do i really need to size down if i wear thicker socks to avoid rubbing?
I have both and prefer the stormking , is lighter and heel is not that hard
Is the tobacco color always so dark? It doesn't look as dark on their website and I was thinking about getting that color.
Big factor is what oil u condition with

Hey, what jacket are you wearing? TY in advance!
Are the soles non-marking? Do they smell bad? Do they rub off on your hands when you put them on?
Love your channel. Thursday rugged leather is one of my favorite leathers.
I got the Captains after watching your reviews and RoseAnvil's! What's that great jacket though?
