Leather is so much more comfy than synthetics and second for the durability. It does get less cushy over time but I don't mind how the comfort changes. you're right that the fit of a veg tan insole (with time) is better, but I think the more immediate comfort is an important part of their success, like more people would return them if they had a tough break in/bad shock absorption.
Agree with you 100 percent. EVA foam flattens out in a year's time and you feel like you're standing on the sole. Go Nick's, White's or Wesco or go home is the policy.

I have this same Tobacco President. The look and leather are nice but the soles were the worst I have ever worn! Within 6 months of occasional wear they went flat and I could feel every pebble and stone through them and could not be worn for more than 30 minutes on a sidewalk without my feet feeling tired. I had to replace the sole with Vibram (which Thursday should be doing in the first place) and bought an insert for comfort. Now they’re great, but for the price of a better sole and an insert I should have just bought the better Parkhurst Delaware that I’d been looking at. I’m done with Thursday until they improve their soles.
I have the captain brandy. I always replace my boot insoles within the 1st week or month with a better after market insole. A bit of a bummer when I found that the thursday insole wasn't removable. I did get a thinner insole tho and it's perfect.
I got a 'cheaper' thinner leather insole. More like leather composite. Just so i can extend the thursday insoles. The more expensive ones were too thick. Too tight at the top of my foot. The next Thursday boots I'm ordering will need to be 1 size bigger to fit better insoles. Get those full leather ones.
I've had my President's for about 2 years and they've held up great. My only gripe is they're not the most comfy, however this might be attributed to a good fit vs. a perfect fit. I need to go up 1/2 size up on my next pair.
I have a pair of their Casa Moto's and I love how they look but I do wish that Thursday's had a wider toe box. That area is taking a long time to break in for my foot shape. They were only available in standard at the time and I had to have them. I love them.
Hey man. Can you please help me out with this it’s driving me crazy. I’m thinking about getting a pair of president boots and I’m very unsure about the size to get. I’m a 9 in sneakers so should I get an 8.5 or an 8 in Thursdays? Would love to hear from an expert like yourself so I can have peace of mind 😭 😂
Haha the thing is like half the sneakerrs in the market are a size bigger than your real size, you should go to a shoe store and get your "true size" measured on a brannock. I think look at all your sneakers and see what sizes they all are. If you have even one that's 8.5 then you should get an 8 in Thursday. If they're all 9 (and esp if there's a 9.5 or two in there) then get an 8.5.
if you have wide feet buy your normal size!!!! I bought some thursdays at 1/2 smaller and they were to tight to even walk in. I had to send them back right away. also they didnt have wide sizes when i ordered. so maybe they have changed.
I bought a pair of President boots in a chrome brown a couple months back. The color of the leather is beautiful and I do love how they look. However on my right boot the tongue will move to the right of my foot after taking a couple steps, which causes walking in them for long periods of time uncomfortable and a little painful.
If I can ask, what kind of jeans would you recommend one could pair the tobacco color of these shoes with? Does it have to always be dark jeans? (The rugged and resilient tobacco color) Also would this boot be any good if you have to squat a lot during the day? (Like at work) would it wrinkle them too much doing this? 🧐
Thanks! I did a whole video on that brand, Teddy Stratford ruclips.net/video/Kbb23stDDQk/видео.html this one's the gray flannel they'll probably bring back in a couple months, use the discount code!
At this point I'm going around Thursday boots videos and threads and every time I hear the EVA comfort strip thing it irks me to the point I really just want to leave a comment. The Captains and Presidents (I'm pretty sure) come with one OR the other, not both. Either a EVA comfort strip as a midsole, or a veg tanned leather midsole. In addition, I believe the EVA models don't have a steel shank and possibly even a thinner layer of cork (total guess based on what I've seen from take apart videos here and there). I found this out about a week ago and just wanted to know what differences exist between these 2 constructions. Perhaps the goal of the EVA models is for more of a walking shoe with more comfort, slightly lighter weight, and more flex (hence no shank)?? Just guessing here...
Thursday got me into boots. I now have 9 pairs of them. I’m now at the point of getting into grant stone boots to go to the next level. I really wish Thursday would offer a boot built like the grant stone boots. Get rid of the synthetic stuff inside and just do leather insole, cork, leather midsole then rubber outsole. Charge $300 for that particular model and give people what they want. I would absolutely buy them the day get released.
it is! i totally forgot to mention it because mine have never broken, but I have a buddy whose kevlar laces break all the time. I'd agree the kevlar laces need work
There are no solutions only trade offs. Thursday is a good boot for the price, there are better boots out there that cost more money. I noticed that the comfort level goes down over time. In my opinion, Grant Stone offers the best value for a pair of boots. Thursday can be solid option for people in the market.
You get a lot for $200 price point. My Diplomats and Captains were my gate way into boots before moving up the redwings and now Nicks that I have in order. The rugged and resilient leather are definitely a bit tougher to break in.
Ah man, love WSM! They show it here in the UK around Christmas, so I look forward to seeing you on it. I have a pair of captains in terracotta coming and I can’t wait. I am a bit confused about its leather, though. It looks like rugged and resilient, but it’s not.
If there's no standard sizing, why do they bother sizing these things? I should be able to buy my shoe size and not need to return them bc the sizing is off by a whole size.
I have them and the only difference is the cap toe. they feel the same! Don't buy 1/2 size smaller as they recommend! It never stretches' out to a good fit!
I've had my presidents for about 3 months. I absolutely adore them. But, I will admit that I freaked out (and not in a positive way) the very first time I scuffed them. Considering the boots were $199, yeah I was pissed. But then I realized that I can afford to replace them now and/or when they wear out or fall apart and I was ok. 😂
Funny, you mention that they limit the blistery break-in, but I have five pairs of Allen Edmonds boots, and two pairs of Thursday boots. The Thursday boots cause a lot of heel rub and did give me blisters. None of the Allen Edmonds boots did that at all.
I agree. My best guess is that either due to the AE last being more spot on for your foot, or the tanning processes of the leathers results in a different break in experience as both companies leathers, (tanning process aside) are very good.
Just reviewed my second pair of presidents, same as my first, tobacco! Looked at the description on sales slip and it said “ Tobacco Kansas President “, looked at the boot and the toe is different! Wider rounder, if I wanted a boot that looked like all the rest, I’d have bought those. Damn it, don’t change your design without telling people, just a work boot is all it is now! Wouldn’t have ordered these if I knew they looked like this.
So the leather has always been called tobacco kansas they just don't put it on any marketing haha but when I was at their factory 2 years ago it's what they called it. But yes, they've been updating their lasts and sizing. I tried to do a video on it but they said they hadn't finished the updates yet.
@@richardodouglin3855 I haven’t heard anything from Thursday Boots. I really don’t expect to either. My only response to them now is not buy anything else and recommend others do the same!
Great review, I love how they aged. I agree it is hard to soze them. I have ones in natural Chromexl and the clicking is increble on them and it really hurts me i need to sell them. I thought i can brake them in and that was really painful due to the fact they are just too small, i thought they will strech so I embraced the pain but the ridge of the insole is just on the wrong place so i need to let them go and i will get half size bigger. Unfortunately same leather is discontinued so i need to choose something eles, maybe sadlewood. In Germany it ends up costing around 250e with import that is much more acceptable that something like grant stone that is different price and category all together. 250e is still acceptable and i love they have they're own look though they are really close to clinch jeager boots that i find just as a compliment to the design
They need more cork to make them more comfortable, but besides that, the boots quality control is very poor, as they are shipped full of defects, for example, uneven heel heights (some by a lot), dents and missing or chipped parts in the sole's side, uneven stitching of different heights in the back part of the boot, which the company will try to claim are acceptable standard deviations defects in the manufacturing process since they are handmade, which is an outlandish claim for a boot at the $200 price point, which demonstrates an overall negligent and poor customer service strategy to push defective pairs on customers, which is adverse to the company's marketing strategy on first-hand testimonials. If one is lucky enough to get a pair without defects in the first shipment, they are nice boots but for most customers that is not the case, for this company to ship a pair without defects can be a real challenge full of headaches, especially since it will take three or more exchanges to get a decent pair with little defects, noting that they will not guarantee a pair without defects in writing via email, which shows a poor branding supervision and integrity by the management of the company. This is basically a company that sells boots and shoes with high end quality materials but with defective manufacturing, which will be push to customers as acceptable defects and maybe if it fails with a little rebate, in order to avoid an exchange for a pair with little defects, which makes me think from my experience with customer service, that there is no such thing as a pair with zero defects offered to their customers which does not do justice to the aesthetics of their style and designs offered, which is a real shame.
They use chrome excel but it’s not by horween chrome excel . It’s their ‘ Thursday chrome excel’ it’s a cheaper but still good version. Horween from Chicago is the premium. Not for Thursday, more for brands like ‘ crown north Hampton’
I have the Presidents in mocha. Couldn’t get them with speed hooks, but it was pretty cheap to get them installed at my cobbler’s. Of my six pairs of Thursdays, the presidents were the hardest to break in, but not really hard at all. But the other five pairs were comfortable right out of the box. My favorite are the early Diplomat, which are a clone of the Alden Indy.
Very comfortable but they are one of the minority of boot companies where the heel angles down from back to front. So you feel like you are tilted forwards when you are walking. Urban Shepherd is another brand that does this.
Interesting point. I actually had a cobbler reduce the heel height on mine which I think was a contributing factor. Mine were well over an inch tall which I just didn't like.
I’ll wear them with baggy pants don’t tell people not to do that…. Kinda almost like body shaming…. I’m a big dude. You’ll look at me and be like,” the fuck that fat guy is wearing skinny jeans?” Just because you told me too. Some people can’t help it. Boots are very good.
Just got a pair of these and I have to say the laces absolutely suck. Boots seem good. But the laces are so cheap, they take away from the rest of the boot.
@@Stridewise I’m not familiar enough with them to say…they seem to look and feel like plain cotton material. They could be the kevlar, I just don’t know. The overall impression is pretty poor though.
@@Stridewise ‘pull it off’…laces..there’s a pun there…lol In all seriousness, I hope you’re able to string that together. :) Seriously though, laces can really set off a pair of shoes. I have also owned Stormking Captain in tobacco for a year now and I have to say that I'm not impressed by them. I had to go exchange them twice until I got the pair that was acceptably finished. It is still not finished how you would expect from the handcrafted boots but it is much better than the two other pairs that I was sent before. Their quality control is just horrendous. After 2 weeks of daily wear, the rugged undersole has started unglueing on one of the boots and I had to take them to the cobbler to fix it (I have tried glueing it back myself using shoe glue but they just kept unglueing). After one year the leather is so soft that they feel like more like UGGs than a rugged boots. Maybe some people like that, however I went with Stormking version because I wanted to have more rugged looking and feeling boots. Also the leather has streched a lot, way more than any other pair of the leather shoes or boots that I have ever owned which made the boots way too large for me now (I have to wear them with a thick insole and thick socks). After the boots were fixed by the cobbler I had no other issues with them, I just can't recommend them to anyone, mostly because of the quality control issues and unreliability. It's just too much hassle. They look nice but I don't think that I'm going to buy anything else from Thursday ever again after experiencing all of that.
Thursday boots are by far the worst boots I've ever owned. Bought the indigo Vanguard they have really loose grain thin leather, and the heels separating after only a couple months.
I'll stick with my red wing boots. I bought a pair a leather sneakers from that company, the leather was cracked, and they concealed glue inside the inner leather to cover it up, customer service deflected the issue and claimed I did damage to the shoe, sent photos to company to show them proof of defect and they did nothing and didn't offer a replacement, bear in mind I just received the product, I will not support that company or any of their product, I like your reviews and details on a product , but Thursday boot company is a no for me.
I recently found out that one of the co founders of Thursday, has the opinion that foam insoles are superior to leather insoles? Sealed the fate of me never buying Thursdays.
I think Thurdays are good for the price. There is a saying, never ask a barber if you need a haircut. Does the founder really believe that? Maybe? It's in his interest to believe it if he wants to sell Thursday boots....
I really, really dislike that dress-shoe semi-pointed toe profile. I’m not sure what to think of this guy’s sense of style - it’s like a businessman’s idea of how to look ‘fashionable’.
I bought a pair of the presidents and they are without a doubt, the worst pair of boots i have ever bought (for the price)!!! They are so uncomfortable and the soles wore out, to the cork and nails, within 3 months. I have a similar looking pair of danners that have lasted YEARS. Seriously, these boots are crap.

Great review. Time to pull the trigger. I didn't know they are under ten years old
Love the design of these boots but on my pair, in about a year, the poron completely flattened and are extremely uncomfortable now
I had a similar experience, long term comfort isn't a strong point.
That is common with these, and the main issue with using poron/synthetic materials.
What size is better for you? The 11.5 or the 11?
I have the captain brandy. I always replace my boot insoles within the 1st week or month with a better after market insole. A bit of a bummer when I found that the thursday insole wasn't removable. I did get a thinner insole tho and it's perfect.
What insole did you choose?
I also must know what insole you chose
I got a 'cheaper' thinner leather insole. More like leather composite. Just so i can extend the thursday insoles. The more expensive ones were too thick. Too tight at the top of my foot.
The next Thursday boots I'm ordering will need to be 1 size bigger to fit better insoles. Get those full leather ones.
love this video and thursday boots!
Thinking about getting some Thursday boots. Do you recommend President or Captain for versatility and style? Thank you
I've had my President's for about 2 years and they've held up great. My only gripe is they're not the most comfy, however this might be attributed to a good fit vs. a perfect fit. I need to go up 1/2 size up on my next pair.
I've done that size up size down dance with Thursday so many times lol
I have a pair of their Casa Moto's and I love how they look but I do wish that Thursday's had a wider toe box. That area is taking a long time to break in for my foot shape. They were only available in standard at the time and I had to have them. I love them.
Where does thursday get their leather from besides their chromexcel??
Nick, do a video on the new R&R line of boots. The Arizona Adobe captains are now more round compared to the classic black or classic series captains.
I don't have any experience with their boots or leather in general. Which kind of leather of the presidents the weakest/least durable?
please try the rogue form thursday boots
Convinced to get their boots. I already own their high-top sneakers.
You think these boots are good to wear in winter ?
I bought a pair of President boots in a chrome brown a couple months back. The color of the leather is beautiful and I do love how they look. However on my right boot the tongue will move to the right of my foot after taking a couple steps, which causes walking in them for long periods of time uncomfortable and a little painful.
Maybe look into a pair of False Tongues/Kilties and see if helps out the issue. I have few pair for that very same reason.
@@a.l.newsome7395 I have never heard of false tongues before but I'll look into it. Thanks for the advice
If I can ask, what kind of jeans would you recommend one could pair the tobacco color of these shoes with? Does it have to always be dark jeans? (The rugged and resilient tobacco color)
Also would this boot be any good if you have to squat a lot during the day? (Like at work) would it wrinkle them too much doing this? 🧐
So if I am mormally a size 10 should i get a 9.5 or 10??
just wondering, where did you get that shirt you are wearing? (the black one)
great vid btw :)
Thanks! I did a whole video on that brand, Teddy Stratford ruclips.net/video/Kbb23stDDQk/видео.html this one's the gray flannel they'll probably bring back in a couple months, use the discount code!
Can you do review on Solovair Delaer (chelsea) boot pls? :)
They have a shank
Thursday got me into boots. I now have 9 pairs of them. I’m now at the point of getting into grant stone boots to go to the next level.
I really wish Thursday would offer a boot built like the grant stone boots. Get rid of the synthetic stuff inside and just do leather insole, cork, leather midsole then rubber outsole. Charge $300 for that particular model and give people what they want. I would absolutely buy them the day get released.
Can someone help? Which model boots have the most comfort and cushion?
I have to replace the laces several times a year. Is that common?
it is! i totally forgot to mention it because mine have never broken, but I have a buddy whose kevlar laces break all the time. I'd agree the kevlar laces need work
I like Thursday boots.could you do a video on full dress boots
Love your videos! have you looked into the Titans?
Wearing them now! Trying to really beat up the waxed flesh
@@Stridewise thank you!
Nice job, thanks🥃
Ah man, love WSM! They show it here in the UK around Christmas, so I look forward to seeing you on it.
I have a pair of captains in terracotta coming and I can’t wait.
I am a bit confused about its leather, though. It looks like rugged and resilient, but it’s not.
Right! That's the leather I have in this boot, it patinas a ton and is easier break in than a rugged one ruclips.net/video/z3VGfzNLOSY/видео.html
Your outfits are so nice I love it
Aw thanks dude!
what is the toughest work boot type leather you can get on the presidents?
Probably this Tobacco, or one of the other Rugged ones (they're all grouped together on the product page)
@@Stridewise cool thanks
If there's no standard sizing, why do they bother sizing these things? I should be able to buy my shoe size and not need to return them bc the sizing is off by a whole size.
I actually want to get my speed hooks removed. I like to wear mine with flannel trousers and the speed hooks get caught on the hem.
That's fair! any cobbler can do it pretty cheap
I have them and the only difference is the cap toe. they feel the same! Don't buy 1/2 size smaller as they recommend! It never stretches' out to a good fit!
Captains have a fake toe cap though. Rose Anvil cut a pair in half.
Looking good, genuine earned wear :-)!
would like a thicker toe cap
Do their combat boots next pls :)
I seem to recall that being true of Allen Edmonds. I did say I got blisters from these!
@@Stridewise well it’s the styling I was looking for! These will be the last I purchase.
@@lazysob2328so the boot is different now? Wider toe box now? Is it the same with there captain boot mine were pretty big
@@Stridewise any news on the lasts and sizing? On the presidents and the captains?
@@richardodouglin3855 I haven’t heard anything from Thursday Boots. I really don’t expect to either. My only response to them now is not buy anything else and recommend others do the same!
Salute and be blessed

Nah you’re talking about their brown leather “Thursday chrome”, they use natural chromexcel from horweem and one or two others too
I have the Presidents in mocha. Couldn’t get them with speed hooks, but it was pretty cheap to get them installed at my cobbler’s. Of my six pairs of Thursdays, the presidents were the hardest to break in, but not really hard at all. But the other five pairs were comfortable right out of the box.
My favorite are the early Diplomat, which are a clone of the Alden Indy.
i like the presidents better than the captains
Not breaking in the shoes; but your feet, that's why our feet had blister
Very comfortable but they are one of the minority of boot companies where the heel angles down from back to front. So you feel like you are tilted forwards when you are walking. Urban Shepherd is another brand that does this.
Interesting point. I actually had a cobbler reduce the heel height on mine which I think was a contributing factor. Mine were well over an inch tall which I just didn't like.
I'm interested in these boots but man, they look different in every single shot 😅
I've never seen any serious people that roll up their jean cuffs. What is that about?
great question: ruclips.net/video/2jgps1kv7SY/видео.html
I'm definitely more a fan of my Present boots. It could be that the break in was much easier for me.
"slim boots are better with slim pants"
"don't body shame me"
Just got a pair of these and I have to say the laces absolutely suck. Boots seem good. But the laces are so cheap, they take away from the rest of the boot.
you got those kevlar ones? yeah they seem more prone to breaking, which is surprising
@@Stridewise I’m not familiar enough with them to say…they seem to look and feel like plain cotton material. They could be the kevlar, I just don’t know. The overall impression is pretty poor though.
@@goodbonezz1289 making and selling my own laces is on my to do list, hopefully i pull it off before the end of the year
@@Stridewise ‘pull it off’…laces..there’s a pun there…lol
In all seriousness, I hope you’re able to string that together. :)
Seriously though, laces can really set off a pair of shoes. Make or break them. I’ve noticed different qualities before but have never been so immediately disappointed like with these. Looking forward to what you end up doing.
Best of luck!
my god those president's are one sexy pair of boots
@@dinoquijote even a thin one would be better.
If they did use leather mid soles it would certainly cost more
@@Kratos-bf2jg a reasonable trade off.
I think Thurdays are good for the price. There is a saying, never ask a barber if you need a haircut. Does the founder really believe that? Maybe? It's in his interest to believe it if he wants to sell Thursday boots....
@@tommysmith7031 that’s a good point. All i know is he’s incorrect.
You can't wear them in the rain and snow without getting your feet wet, as there is no gusseted tongue. Good luck with that.
I really, really dislike that dress-shoe semi-pointed toe profile. I’m not sure what to think of this guy’s sense of style - it’s like a businessman’s idea of how to look ‘fashionable’.
leather clicking also not very good
I'm always amazed at what different people find appealing. This boots are absolutely hideous.
that's fashion for ya
I like them because they remind me of the Alden 405s, the Indiana Jones shoes
I bought a pair of the presidents and they are without a doubt, the worst pair of boots i have ever bought (for the price)!!! They are so uncomfortable and the soles wore out, to the cork and nails, within 3 months. I have a similar looking pair of danners that have lasted YEARS. Seriously, these boots are crap.

I don't have these boots and I never will. They just simply look cheap, especially soles. And for $200 plus tax? Give me a break.
ok! they do have wide sizes though.
