About York itself
York is a cathedral city and unitary authority area in North Yorkshire, England. The population of the council area which includes nearby villages was 208,200 as of 2017 and the population of the urban area was 153,717 at the 2011 census. Located at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, it is the county town of the historic county of Yorkshire. The city is known for its famous historical landmarks such as York Minster and the city walls, as well as a variety of cultural and sporting activities, which makes it a popular tourist destination in England. It is about 25 miles north-east of Leeds and 34 miles north-west of Kingston upon Hull. York is the largest settlement in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Deira, Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained. In the 19th century, York became a major hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre, a status it maintained well into the 20th century.
The economy of York is dominated by services. The University of York and National Health Service are major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy. In 2016, York became sister cities with the Chinese city of Nanjing, as per an agreement signed by the Lord Mayor of York, focusing on building links in tourism, education, science, technology and culture. Today, the city is a popular tourist attraction, especially for international visitors from America, Germany, France and China. In 2017, York became UK's first human rights city, which formalised the city's aim to use human rights in decision making.
Architecture
York Minster, a large Gothic cathedral, dominates the city.
York Castle, a complex of buildings ranging from the medieval Clifford's Tower to the 20th-century entrance to the York Castle Museum (formerly a prison) has had a chequered history.
York's centre is enclosed by the city's medieval walls, which are a popular walk. These defences are the most complete in England. They have the only walls set on high ramparts and they retain all their principal gateways. The entire circuit is approximately 2.5 miles (4 km), and encloses an area of 263 acres (106 ha). The north-east section includes a part where walls never existed, because the Norman moat of York Castle, formed by damming the River Foss, also created a lake which acted as a city defence. This lake was later called the King's Fishpond, as the rights to fish belonged to the Crown.
The Shambles is a medieval shopping street; most of the buildings date from between c. 1350 and 1475
A feature of central York is the Snickelways, narrow pedestrian routes, many of which led towards the former market-places in Pavement and St Sampson's Square. The Shambles is a narrow medieval street, lined with shops, boutiques and tea rooms. Most of these premises were once butchers' shops, and the hooks from which carcasses were hung and the shelves on which meat was laid out can still be seen outside some of them.
York is noted for its numerous churches and pubs. Most of the remaining churches in York are from the medieval period. St William's College behind the Minster, and Bedern Hall, off Goodramgate, are former dwelling places of the canons of the York Minster.

Спасибо за небольшую историю этого городка. Он даже какой то таинственный, когда вы идёте среди старых узких улиц или вдоль крепостной стены.

I've watched a few of these walking tours from around the world and decided to watch a local one. York is only 12miles away from me and I haven't been there for a year now. It was great to say, I've had a pint there and there and there etc........ Compared to other cities, York seems to be very busy with traffic (even in lockdown). You don't actually realise this as a frequent visitor until you watch as an "outsider". Good video though. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks for watching and such a good feedback. I'm glad you liked this video. I hope I'll visit York this year again
Love the shambles.

Thank you so very much for posting this walk around York. York is under the highest restrictions as from today and I will not be able to visit York until next year as the second wave of Covid 19 is ripping through the North of England with a vengeance. Now ,thanks to you, I can make a cup of tea in my own home and watch this on my tv safe at home and looking forward to the day next year when I can revisit and have fish and chips at Drakes ,feed the geese, sit in the Museum gardens and visit the Minster once again. Best wishes from a 'dyed on the wool' Yorkie x

What a difference a few months makes. If you had visited before March you would have had to weave in and out of the crowds. I really hope that things can get back to as they were. York needs its tourists to survive.
I know mate. Thank you for watching ;-)

My great, great grandfather is from Yorkshire. Moved to Canada in the late 1800's, then down to The USA. Would love to explore my heritage there. You think I'd find any Metcalf's there? ;)
Not sure mate ;-) Thank you for watching ;-)
Lots of Metcalf's around there
Why was there such a massive queue for Sports Direct and none of the other shops haha
I have no idea why
Streets look quiet, many stores closed, must be during the covid lock down
Thank you for watching ;-) It was just after lockdown.
Suggest getting the most out of your trip to York by booking a free walking tour with the Association of Voluntary Guides A.V.G. Check us out on line. Totally free and also free of tips. A two hour walk with a qualified guide to explain the history and the buildings. A good way to meet other visitors and have a few laughs along the way.
Sounds great! I'll do next time. Thank you for watching ;-)
I live there. Truly beautiful not at the moment with the pandemic though haha.
Thank you for watching and commenting! :) Stay tuned.

Thank you for watching ;-)
The original not the New York.
;-)
Why is nobody wearing a mask?
I guess people are not afraid :-)
Murat Akyol: There's no need to wear them outside.....they're only designed to be used in confined spaces. Both British & American medical authorities have said this many times but both governments still try to "condition" people into wearing them.....most people here are ignoring these pointless rules. Most of the masks are basically useless anyway.....the only effective ones (the respirator type) are reserved for medical workers. See link below.
