It's not about respecting their fellow countrymen, it's about knowing that locals are aware of how much things cost and won't be willing to pay a higher amount. Go to most markets in the world, if you look or sound unlike a local, expect to be charged more. Even shops with fixed prices have overpriced keychains, postcards,etc targeted at tourists, who are willing to pay extra. Most people do understand this when they go abroad.

@Red Divinity about 50% less 😂😅😁, it common practice to haggle so they start very high and you get to a middle ground. Even for locals same is done though for Foreigners its starts higher. Normally people dont like to pay asking price so you start higher then haggle to your intended price

This happena to even Nigeria. So, the trick is whatever price you are told slash it into 2 and starthe pricing, it they don't accept the price walk out and you would be called back. But if you aren't go to the next shop and do the same, you would be given a certain price by both shops choose which is favourable for you. That's what I was taught and it worked for me the few times I did it in Nigeria

Nigeria's traffic is really fast and buses are cramped and we love to argue. My favorite Nigerian public transport is the bus with all the drama. You have to be tough to live in Nigeria.

Was in Lagos just last month (Dec2019), as a female South East Asian Tourist, it’s truly not for the faint of heart.! Just keep an open mind, be aware of your surroundings.. and I had a blast! The Foods though were extremely delicious and an adventure in itself:)
