I been listening to rancid ever since around 1995, they are one of the reasons i picked up playing guitar, and Matt is one of the reasons i switched to the bass...absolute legend....
I remember learning to play that intro and how exciting it was. Here we are nearly 30 years later and it's still the first thing I play anytime I pick up a bass. Legendary!
Matt, let it be known this intro is played at every pre service practice at church when they let me praise…but on a J-Bass with flats and fingers. Great warmup and a nod to what brought me to now. Cheers.
man, this is literally the first song I play every time I pick up a bass. one of the greatest punk rock bass riffs ever written, imo! love that you're doing this, man. and it looks like you're having fun. keep it going!
Out Come the Wolves properly introduced me to punk and changed my idea of what music could be-and this line is one of the main reasons I picked up the bass. Much love Matt!
Awesome video man! That bass line is what hooked me at age 12 to Rancid and punk. First heard it on my way to Bozeman Montana to see you guys at Warped Tour 2001. Inspired me to pick up the bass and find a love for punk rock. Can't wait to see more videos!!
Hey, man!!! Thanks for sharing this!!! You are one of my teen age's hero, and I learned a lot, listening to you, those days! Cheers, from a bass player, in the south of Brazil!
I wonder if this would sound better with the audio from the song and the bass track being recording via an audio interface, rather than a (what I presume) laptop microphone. still sick as hell, huge fan of your work. thanks for all the years of inspiration.
Been playing bass in local bands for 20 plus years. Matt has always been my inspiration on the bass. I can't really think of who that is on LEAD vocals. But backups? Richie Sambora. Ha ha. Bring that hate
As with any great band they are always more than the sum of their parts and trying to put too much credit on any member a flawed.....but it can't be understated how much Matt's part of the Rancid equation is pivotal.

I love that you’re doing this! Thank you!! I hope you do this whole album eventually😊
Matt is the reason I bought a bass when I was 15.
Same, 37 now still jamming bass.

Do the whole album please! What a record, wicked basslines. Soundtrack of my life🥰!
Out Comes the Wolves is the best punk record ever.
Hell yeah! 💪
Nope. C'mon, that's ridiculous.
Hot take: it's only Rancid's 3rd best album 😬

Just Amazing! 🤘
This might be my favorite bass line of any song. It’s so catchy!
👊
Love playing this bassline (albeit poorly). Would love for Mr. Freeman to do a deeper dive on the album version and the differences (?) played here.
AOCTW changed my life when I was 13. Thank you man, you inspired me to be a better bassist than I thought I could be.
wolves is a masterpiece of an album, and your bass lines are legendary!

You are a legend
Oh hell yes! I love this song and the bassline is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and super fun to play! Thanks Matt!!👍🏽😁🎶🎶
This is one of the best bass riffs in music history! I'd love to see a video for Old Friend 🤘
The first song I ever learned on bass guitar! Hard to believe that was over 25 years ago. Where does the time go??
My favourite bassist for sure. I love how complex and melodic your bass lines are.
This is truly one of the best punk rock songs ever written! 🤘🤘
Would love for you to do a video on how you get your amazing tone (maybe some hints on bass and amp settings) and some tips on how to get faster 🤘
These songs bring me such happiness. Especially the bass lines!
If this isn't the best bass line of all time, what on earth is?

I can’t wait to see videos of you going into depth of how you go about writing these insane bass lines that I’ve loved for all these years 🔥
What a tune! This song is one of the greatest
Hell yeah!!! Still sounds as awesome as ever
chills!!! Just love your work dude. Some of my best memories had your music playing in the background. Thanks for the music!!
Any change of doing a Maxwell Murder play along?
また今度、日本へ来てください!😊
This song and Hoboken are the reasons I want to get a bass and learn to play!
Love getting to see you playing along to these tracks!
Is that a David Byrne(Talking Heads) sticker on his bass?
Awesome! Man, can we get a playthrough of Detroit??
Any chance of you supplying the tabs with the songs?
This videos need them at the bottom so we can play along
I like to think Matt is putting these videos out because hes sick of seeing wrong tabs.
I bet that’s so frustrating as a musician if you’re online lol seeing wrong tabs everywhere
Maybe it’s funny that people can’t figure it out.
Matt I play the intro completely differently lol but it sounds the same
Did you really say, "This is a mecca."?
😊

Matt how did you learn bass? Were you a fan of Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks?
Its criminal i cant buy a freeman sig new
