No need to say your name when you're the best punk rock bass player in the world.
I second that, maxwell murder, nough said! Punk rock forever!
100%
Right on👊
Take out punk rock and your even more right
@@nolaneonta3439 I don't know about that. If you look up Chris Squire of the band Yes that guy was amazing on bass.
This dude is why I started playing bass. He’s my favorite bassist and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. I’m a chick and started playing at 14, now 35 and still playing. His stuff is the greatest
Goat
This bass line will be around for hundreds of years. That's how badass it is.
Very tasty bass line :)
I'm sure no one gives a squirt of piss, but this song has a special place in my heart. My brother and I (that's us pictured in my profile) were on a long distance trip from Michigan to West Virginia driving non-stop to see our Grandma one last time before she passed. It was well into the middle of the night and we were on a long stretch of the Ohio turnpike and this one come on. I was driving and turned my head to see if he had been able to get any sleep. He was awake and we locked eyes, we didn't have to say a word. We both knew we were on a journey to the end together. To this day I can't listen to this tune without a tear in my eye.
It has a spot in mine too.
I lived that as I read it ahaaahaha. Those good moments on the spot that stay forever in our minds
And out come the wolves, is my go to album. I can still listen to it all the way though. At 40 years old.
Same here brother. Im 37 and out come the wolves was in my cars cd player pretty much all through highschool and to this day still never gets old.
I’m 44 and their first 3 albums were my road trip music back in early 20s.
I’m 35 and it’s still my go-to gym / swimming pool album!
37 here, not many Albums have passed my personal test of time but this one will stay. One of the best Punk Albums ever made, at least for me
d3nGu3 it’s a perfect album... Not a lot of those out there.
Been playing this song every time I pick up my bass the last 20 years.
39 years old, literally just bought my first bass ever and cant wait for it to get here! 100% only just because i grew up listening to rancid. thanks matt for inspiring me to try something new.
Been playing since I was 17, but TimeBomb was one of my inspirations! How are you getting on with your journey down to the low end?
Been playing all kinds of instruments for 30 years, wise investment (you buying your bass). Happy motoring my friend!
How’s it coming along? What kind of bass btw?
@@bobbythompson4268 Jackson, I'm getting there. I'm no matt Freeman but I have some riffs lol
@@bicdiggity4710 nice, happy to hear you’re sticking with it. I started bass, as a secondary, or third instrument really, back in like 94/95, then bought a new fender in 2002, played sporadically until about 2010, then put it down until like 6 months ago. Now I’m really trying to learn everything I can. Making up for lost time. Bass is awesome, and Matt freeman is the man. Good luck to you, and don’t give up!
Best days of my life with this album!
Same here!
Same!!! I wore this cassette out completely
Me too, brother. AOCTW got me through my first rehab in the 90s. RANCID has gotten me through some of the roughest times in my life!!
same! i miss those days, i miss italy...
This album has to be one the best albums made I have several cds of it its always on play in my car everyday never get fed up of listening to it long live RANCID!!
The best bass player in the world....God father....cheers from Jakarta..indonesia
yanuar rahman ciri khas punk rock 90an gitu bass nya jalan, matt emg mantep, tapi masih banyak lagi yg sadis, coba lu denger roger less than jake, trus sama si bassisnya 88 fingers louie, bassisnya goldfinger yg pertama si simon, karl alvarez descendents dll
Cheers from San Diego California USA. I heard Indonesian Punk scene is doing great in 2021!
When someone has a bass and they ask you to play, this is the go to show off riff. So iconic.
It’s
Easy to play but fuck how do you write this shit!!
He's just loving it. Huge smile on his face as he's rocking out.
This album never gets old, Rancid has always been a solid band . This song is a great homage to Operation Ivy too.
This was awesome to watch, now do Maxwell Murder!
My sentiments exactly!
You don’t tell Matt Freeman what to do.
Damnit I just said this was the best bass line ever completely forgetting about Maxwell Murder 😢
One of the best music of And Out Came The Wolves. Thanks for it. Long life for Operation Ivy.
Rancid Fans from Indonesia 🇮🇩 💪💪
27 years since first listening to their Out Come The Wolves album and still got the goosebumps each time play their whole tracks..
Even my 18 years old daughter love it ...
punk transcends borders and generations! \m/
This song always makes me feel my youth is still alive. Best punk band ever.
Matt Freeman, Tony Lombardo from The Descendents, and Klaus Fluoride from Dead Kennedys have the greatest signature styles. I never knew a bass player can steal the show until I heard their riffs. Very clean, catchy, and creative using just a pick. No thumb slapping.
Tony Lombardo!!!!!!!
Your are friggen spot on my man!! 🅱️ass!!
Klaus Fluoride is a really amazing bassist. Usually when people think of the Dead Kennedys, they'd think more of Jello Biafra and East Bay Ray.
Yes, way to shout out Klaus! He is super original and also has probably the sickest J bass tone in punk music.
That's right. Just a pick no thumbs.
This man does not like playing bass... HE LOVES IT!!
Rancid is a band that always play with their "HEART", but, Matt is the Rancid's "SOUL"!
you know, it's not the song, lyrics, drums, or bass, but the smile you get when you're playing that put a smile on my face too. Thanks bud :) All the best
Matt can you do a story time some day? I'd love to hear some old rancid travel stories????
Yes please!
Yeah!
I concur, spill the beans Matt!
I thought this video was going to be a storyteller at first.
Would be awesome Matt!
Matt and Tim sound like the best storytellers in the band.
Damn. This brings back memories. I know I'm not the only one who picked up a bass because of Matt Freeman. Fuck. Those chunky, soulful sounds.
I'm Korean. There was a time when I couldn't keep my balance when I was 18. If I hadn't heard this song back then, I would still be the same as then. I couldn't understand what you said, but I could understand your energy. That energy is the jet engine that brought me this far. I respect you.
For some reason I've always loved the line "this ain't no mecca, man, this place is fucked". Thanks for posting these!
One of the finest bass lines to play and a great song also a must have album
Freeman and Dirnt...! World Champion tag team Goats of Punk Bay! 💪😆🤘
Matt, you're one of my main influences, starting from back in the days of Op Ivy. The best punk bassist to ever play. Keep it real.
I have to like any comment which mentions Op Ivy!
Favorite band ever!! I could listen to Energy on repeat for days and STILL love it lol
😊😊😊😊😊😊
😊
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Virtous guy here, I know shit about instruments but knew you were a damn fine musician by just listening to this song like the vey first time about 25 years ago or so. My respects from Argentina!! To all those who say punk rock is just plain music you'd better thnk twice.
Just wanted to say how much I admire your playing. You are the reason I picked up bass. Thank you.
To the end! to the end! 🔥👏
Love watching Matt having so much fun!
I lived in the ass end of the East Bay. These guys helped me get through high school. We had great bands in the bay back then.
I love your smile when the music hit! No need to fickin back down!!! To the end. I can only imagine the memories you guys have playing., This world is fukkd!!!!
I love this record. I taught myself how to play bass trying to copy Matt! I still listen to this album on the regular 20 something years later!!! Thank you for these vids Matt!!!! I used to love play along like this!!!!
The most underrated bass player, period! Such a vital part of the Op Ivy/Rancid sound.
I'm GIDDY!!! God how can you not LOVE an ass-kicker of a heavy punk/reggae/ska bass!!!!! As a drummer, I'm a-droolin'!
Ladies & Gentlemen on the Bass......Mr. Matt Freeman.
Greatest bassist Punks ever seen.
The smile! He knows it's rad.
Such a tasty bass line. As they all are !🤘❤️🇨🇦
What a beast!! One of your best songs !!
dlargom97 great song off a great album from a great band
Makes me wanna cry, first song I learned start to finish
You rock! the passion of playing this fu*king song is indescriptible... Thanks a lot Matt!!
i had so much fun playing this song as a teen! really makes me want to pick up the bass again
do it brother!
Been my favourite bassist since 25 years ago! Matt I’d be too nervous to meet you but wow you are inspiring.
When I first started playing bass and heard this track I thought 'yeah, I'm glad I chose bass'!
Out come the wolves...... Changed my life. 1997 I was 13yo and bought "Out come the wolves.... at the only record store my little town had at the time. I had one of those gimmick 5 disk changers with a giant subwoofer. Matt Freemans blazing bass riffs punched me square in the chest. I bought a bass and Amp 2 months later.
Best Rancid song ever! Thanks for sharing Matt!
my first song learned on bass your awsome man .my dream has always been to jam with you .you are the reason why i play music today thanks alote for the gift...🤟😁
Always a pleasure to listen to the man!
I'm literally crying right now. Journey To The End was *my song* back in 96, and your bassline was my obsession. And has been for 20+ years! The "crunchiest" bassline I've ever heard.
Two years ago my husband bought me a bass because your bassline on this song is so beloved to me, but i really didn't think I could learn to play it at my age. Seeing this makes me think maybe i can.
Thank you for decades of ripping ass and giving hope.
How’s it going on the bass learning? You’ll totally be able to get there
One of my favorite songs of all time from my favorite bass player. Thank you so much and stay safe!
And Out Come The Wolves is in my personal desert island album list mostly because of this song. I might be okay on a desert island with only this song (except for being homesick for the East Bay).
Thanks for sharing these. Your bass playing has been really inspirational to me throughout the years.
This is the first Rancid tune I ever learned to play on the bass, and had a huge impact on my playing. Thanks for the amazing bass lines, Matt!
Still hear this song a least once a week, and always takes me back to the end
Matt Freeman Rocks! 🤘🏼
Man this video is in my mind 20 years ago 😂
Such a great song. One of your finest bass lines. You really do look like you’re having fun. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite bass lines!!
brother this has been my fav bass jam since it came out ...absolutely love it always will
Insane how good this man is.
I love all the little variations. I remember learning to play this like 15 years ago brings back a lot of good memories.
Your the best bass player in the world playing some of the best riffs ever. This is one of my favorites.
One of the greatest basslines ever and eventhough hes been playing it for 25+ years hes still smiling and mouthing the chorus....icon, legend
was never really into punk rock but matty was the fucking shit. literally learned his bass lines for the sheer fun and excitement.
Love ya Matt! Can't wait till this is all over so we can get back to what we love!
Brilliant. Simply awesome, great to see Matt grinning ear to ear as he plays it still all these years after writing it 😁
Amazing bassist. Criminally underrated.
I can't get enough of these. Thank you, Matt. You are the best!
Man this brings back the memories! Thanks, Matt, you've always been the greatest and the reason I picked up the bass.
One of my favorite songs. It overwhelms my heart because of the emotion and memories attached to it.
You are one of my bass heroes! What a great work: bass lines and unique sound.
Thank you for everything!
I love this band so much. Brings a smile to my face every time I listen to them.
This is my favorite song ever and I start learning bass thanks to you Matt! Thank you so much!
Oh man, What a bass line! That intro brings back so many memories for me👍🏻
You're the man, thanks for putting out there for us. This album was the soundtrack of my 20s!
Matttttttttttt!!!!! Seriously you’re bass work tells the greatest stories!!!!! I’ve been hooked on your song since the first Rancid song I ever heard Salvation. These bunker sessions are great man! Thank you
Thanks for doing these sessions Matt, just fantastic!
A Ska Legend Mr Freeman California Ska -Hall if Fame 80's Operation Ivy To Rancid 90's to Present. Till the end I'm Ska'd for life homie Just like Al Capone!
One of my all time favorite albums. Matt Freeman's finest hour.
Never never never forget when I was 9 and my brother corrupted my ears with this song and the Punk rock Genre, (Exploited,Rancid,Bad Religion,Penny wise and so forth) Man we had fun back in the GAP
This bassline makes me happy.
Best song ever to hear you on. Thank you sir. Always been sacred ground to me
Rancid is the best band PERIOD!
Brightens my day Matt, thankyou x
This is one of the first punk bass lines that got me into playing bass. So great to see how you play! Love the videos Matt!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you so much.
That is so sweet you see how he smiles but soon as Tim starts he calms down and is like hells yeah that is so neat never even noticed that before knew they were tight but geez my brothers actually like one another. lol
One of my best bass line memories of rancid
I love when artists do covers for their own songs like this, it helps a lot to learn the way they do it so it sounds the same
crazy how many memories flood back...
The best, thank you Matt and keep'em coming. Would love to hear Old friend, stay safe
Matt, thats the sound that got me into Rancid in the first place back in 95'. Still a huge fan!
one of my favourite all time bass lines
hands down.
i was 13 when i got this cd... 21 years ago....the best moments of my life sounded with this blasting from my bedroom... triying to play on top of Matts basslines..... pure joy.... thanks for all!
More of this!! Amazing.
You can tell he still has a blast playing
