It leaks through the upper brake light, as it has no seal, when you open the boot, it pours inside the car through the pipe for the wiring (the big concertinaed rubber pipe). Take off that black plastic inspection cover, and you will find water in there. Leave the inspection cover off for a quick temporary fix, but maybe there is drain holes that get blocked.
Yes this is where my wife's leak unfortunately I did the same as this guy it's a waste of time. It's tricky but you have to remove the high brake light lens and silicone around the back of that. It's just the original seal goes bad after a few years.
The water comes in through the high level brake light and down the cable tube into the roof lining and down the sides into the boot, Tony, take that black cap off the tailgate and you will find loads of water. Replace the light and seal with silicone on the outside . ✅
Thanks for your input. The water seems to come in all over the place, I'm not impressed with the build quality. Reminds me of early BMC minis and 1100s. BMC recommended to their dealers that they punched holes in the floor to let the water out!
Worst bit is…. The C1 model before this did exactly the same 😂. This also effects it’s relatives the C1, Peugeot 108 & Aygo. You would of thought they wouldn’t let the same mistake happen twice! New brake light is approx £45 + a tube of silicone 😅
I tried to do that today on a Peugeot 108, which looks identical to the Citroen, but couldn't budge the light unit. Due to the small size of that stupid little access hole, I could only reach one clip at a time, and could not push it out. It's a ridiculously bad design. Thankfully, my Ford Focus has a sensible design with external screws.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore I made a little tool out of wood and cardboard that, when pushed up into the space next to the light unit, pushed both spring clips open at the same time, but with one side free it still refused to come away. In the end I was forced to lever it out with a screwdriver before pulling it all out. Unfortunately, it then broke into pieces. £68 is the current price for a new one from the main dealer. An absolute rip-off.
I expected the vid to both show me and fix any leaks tbh. What did you do about the grommet Tony; the same sort of thing or replaced it? You'd have thought that Citroen/ Peugeot/ Toyota would have got to grips with the problem by the time the revised shape car ou showed in the video came out, as they'd had almost ten years by then.
I sent the owner back to the Citroen garage with the video. In the hope she could get the fix (perhaps a decent flexible soft grommet fitted) under warranty. No chance! They just slopped some sealer round the very hard grommet. I did not want to get involved in a sloppy repair like that. No better than BMC with their water leaks in the 1960's and 70's. The official fix from the factory was to drill some holes in the floor to let the water out. Not my cup of tea bodges like that.

It is almost as bad as the days, in the 1960'/70's, with BMC Minis and BMC 1100's in Britain. It is poor design and even worse assembly. The water leaks on these cars were so bad that BMC garages were told by the factory to just punch holes in the floor of the cars to let the water drain out. That was their cure for the problem!!!! On your C1 the leak is around the high level brake light black plastic part. It has no gasket or seal around the joint, so the water just runs straight into your car. Apparently it is a well known problem with this model. The car in the video belongs to a friend of mine. Once I found the problem - see video - I suggested she take the car to the Citroen garage that supplied it and ask them to rectify the problem. They did this by simply sloshing some sealer around the black plastic part, then had the nerve to charge her for the "repair". So much for Citroen customer service. Sadly, here in France that is par for the course. So for you to carry out the repair, I suggest you buy a tube of white (I think you said your car was white) sealer, either silicone or acrylique, I would use acrylique. First clean around the black plastic part with something like meths or acetone to make sure the area is clean, great free and dry. Then run a little of the sealer around the part. Because it is difficult to get behind the part near the roof I would use some thin plastic gloves and put a little sealer on your finger and wipe it round the back of the part. Hopefully that should end your water leak there. Do keep an eye on the repair as these sealers do tend to break down after time. Good luck, let us all know how you get on.

I prefer to apply the sealant into the groove of the seal.

@@CrankCase08it is a bad design that the seal stops working after a few years. I am having trouble as well but when it's out it should be a easy fix.

My car is the exact same model and colour, looks about the same age too, with the same fault!! Was it an easy fix? 🙏
