Very useful, never knew I had a problem until today and I've had the car for over 5 years. Being icy today I wondered what the noise was on lifting and shutting the tail gate. Soon figured it was ice. Investigated and saw a trough of water laying behind the inspection hatch. Thanks for the tips and your approach in resolving the issue.

Can I just say, I thoroughly appreciate this video explanation. I have just purchased a 2020 Toyota Aygo Mk2 and have noticed this water issue. The water seems to sit along the edge of the access panel (the side depending on whether my boot is open or closed). I've also noticed that not only does my high level brake light have a slight crack on the far left, but it also appears to sit further away from the body of the car on that same side as well. I do have 3 months warranty from the dealership I bought it from a mere month ago... so I think a short trip back is in order for a replacement brake fitting is in order. Thank you for this upload, I'll be sure to take these measures into consideration so as to avoid water retention in the future! 👍

Thanks for this. Just found loads of water in the boot. Assumed it was from the rubber seal but this was full of water! Thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻

the inside of the tube type pipe can be filled with silicone to stop it acting as a conduit. the most reason for the lights to leak, someone already broke it trying to replace bulbs

@4m30s - The fact you can see rust is concerning.

Good video. I'm now doing this on my 2017 plate. Can I ask where the cuts are on the cover at the top or the bottom near the small drainage hole?

With the tailgate in the OPEN position cut two small channels into the foam gasket at the TOP of the access hatch.
When the tailgate is CLOSED these channels will be at the BOTTOM of the access hatch and therefore limit the level to which the box-section can fill with water.

I have the same problem with water coming into my boot from the hole behind the access hatch however my access hatch is actually missing. I’m assuming when took to a garage they’ve removed it and forgot to put it back on. Do you know what I would google to buy a replacement? I have tried everything I can think of and can’t find a replacement.
Because of the water build up in the hole it is also full of rust now. Is there anything you would suggest for me to do?
Thank you so much for this video!!

You can buy a replacement cover from a Peugeot or Citroen dealer. The part number is B000983880 and its description is 'Additional Brake Light Cover'.
To slow down the corrosion you can spray plenty of "Jenolite Waxoil Spray" or "Dinitrol ML Cavity Wax" inside the hatch box-section. These are available from Amazon, Ebay etc.

Shouldn't that drainage hole be the other side of the access slot so when the boot is down it can drain?

that's what I was thinking....so I've drilled a small hole on both sides of the access cover (top and bottom) will see....😢

Yes i have now done that on mine and can safely say that area is all dry, but last week we had a massive rain fall an now found water running down from the driverside somewhere so another leak 😢@matt5802

@meldeanie20 yes me too found water on front passenger footwell after heavy rain it was sitting on top of a rubber mat not carpet so I could follow the trail back to the door. All seals and drain holes look OK- driving me crazy....not what I expect from Toyota

Hi, is there a particular silicone that you would recommend? I have a problem with water collecting at the back left corner of my boot and someone mentioned it could be this top light?

    • @ericchowanietz7993
      @ericchowanietz7993  4 месяца назад

Any clear silicone sealant suitable for outdoor use.
Water in the boot can enter via the high level brake light or a loose/badly fitted rear light cluster.

Not only that they get water ingress into the light unit and blow the bulbs and blow the fuse. Terrible design
