One thing I would add is to check all the carpets for dampness and particularly in the boot lift up the carpet and check for any dampness or significant rust in the spare wheel well, as leaks there are common. However as long as there isn’t significant rust the leaks can be sorted: usual leak points are the high level brake light, the rear light clusters & the tailgate seal and DIY fixes are quite easy for all of these. Also check the plastic headed bolt holding the spare wheel down can be undone and isn’t rusted solid, otherwise a flat tyre will be an unnecessarily major problem (otherwise changing a flat is quite easy and the full size spare is big plus IMO).

Hi Paul what do you think of putting out a video on how to store your XK over winter. This is my first winter and would appreciate some tips.

I've got a platinum version, it's a super little car, not problem free, but still. With the clutch, I sometimes using third gear, that it feels as though I'm riding it, so I'm extra careful with it, but it's a bit weird. I've never had any issues with any other car of vans I've driven. I live in a rural area, so they great to go round back roads, overall, it's super to drive.

I had a 107, brilliant little car . 9 years of trouble free motoring and 116,000 miles on the clock. My only gripe was the exhaust as they don't last long compared to other makes . Economical, reliable, cheapish to maintain 😊 I'd definitely buy another.

what is normal oil consumption for this Aygo? Normally I change around 14,000 km to 15,000 according to the maintenance book. But you need to top up about 2L - 2,6L (that's a lot). Now I change the oil around 10,000-11,000 km (Engine oil Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W-30) and I found this better than Toyota 5W30 oil. Today I replaced the PCV Valve, hoping that will reduce the use of oil

I wonder what is the cause of oil consumption. Because I drive a lot of the time on fast roads

The 1KR-FE engine used in the Aygo, 107 and C1 are prone to oilslack buildup on the piston rings, leading to reduced compression and high oil burning rates. That´s why regular oilchanges are super important on those.
You can try a professional engine flush or soak the piston tops with detergents like injection/carburetor cleaner

Hi! Noob driver here, looking for an economical car, and the Aygo is one of them, but I have some questions about it, which can be a bit subjective. Like, how is the behaviour on the motorway, or long journeys?
I mean, I know it's a car mainly for the city, but I'm thinking maybe I'm going to do some long trips, and some people I've talked to, told me it's an umcomfortable car, in general and especially for such tasks. I'd like to know if that's true since I haven't had the opportunity to get into one of those. Thank you.

    • @life_on_cars

It will cope with motorway because its quite high geared so the engine doesn't scream ! Comfort wise you will be OK but it's not a Rolls Royce 😅

@@life_on_cars Thank you for the quick answer! So, the engine don't suffer in general, even when is a three-cylinder? That's a suprise to hear. I thought that it was the opposite.

@@life_on_cars By the way, one thing I almost forgot. Is it possible to adjust the height of the driver seat? In some places it says it's not possible.

@@life_on_cars the Dutch drive these Aygo's a lot on highways. One 2006 Aygo was thoroughly checked in 2019 at 307,000 kms (190,000 miles) and it was in great condition, no signs of rust or reliability issues in the future, the advice was to just keep driving it for as long as the owner could. Another Aygo went to 325,000 kms (201,000 miles) without issues.

Facebook marketplace is infested with scammers. £1300 for a 2012 Aygo with 28k is 100% a scam advert. I would expect to pay £3500 for a car of that specification

Yes it is a Daihatsu designed motor with a long pedigree, but Daihatsu is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota (Toyota bought 51% controlling interest in 1998 then 100% in 2016).

@@life_on_cars It costs from €2,500 (2005), which is not a small amount of money in Serbia considering the low wages and high prices, in general. Food and fuel are quite expensive for our standard. Cars were cheaper before corona and the war in Ukraine. Now the prices are much higher and stagnate or go up. Newer cars are less imported, so the prices of those that are available are increasing.

@@bojanstefanovic1906 Yes, I guess the less money people have the more expensive it will be to get a car that has a low total cost of ownership. It's an investment to get a car that is cheap to run in the long term.
