    There are probably 3 drills that I subscribe to and this is one of them. This is my #1 drill. It helps with your downswing, squaring the club face, body rotation, weight shift and maybe a few other things I can't think of at the moment.

    Jonathan, I have never commented on a single RUclips video in my life but I am COMPELLED to leave one here saying THANK YOU!!! I've watched every single release video there is and this is the only drill that has actually worked for me and got my body to understand the release. Combined with the feel of swinging right I can now make solid flush contact with my irons and hit draws. Amazing thanks again!!

    It looks really simple, but this has opened up and fixed my swing. I can now hit crisp irons, even the long irons are much better. Yet to pull the woods out and try this but I'm looking forward to it

    I can tell I am doing the drill correctly because I feel a different stretch on my right side. Great drill.

    As a carpenter I relate the release to a hammer striking a nail. The wrist angle is released only a fraction of a second before impact. I used a broken tee 3 inches behind the teed up drive ball as a focal point. Then trying to release at that point. This works as well.

    Very well taught. Most teachers have NO idea how to teach a good release and once that's learned, then many of the small things that are wrong in the swing will miraculously fix themselves.

    Jonathan does an outstanding job explaining the value of drills on the human memory. His explanations really gives me something to concentrate on instead of mindlessly trying to fix the swing on smashing range balls. I am now going to change my whole approach to golf and look at the philosophy of the game. I sure hope this works because I've been going in circles the last years. Fix one thing and then something else breaks. Mental tension is my biggest swing killer and my partners tell me it's all in my head.

      Tom, I couldn't agree more. Jonathan does what no other coach has done for me - explain the criticality of daily drills and how they implant movement into your motor cortex. Combine that with visualization your shot and taking a 'picture' of the shot you want. My best score has gone from 87 to 81 and I've only been watching and drilling Jonathan's stuff for two weeks. This guy is a bloody genius. I'm such an advocate.

    This drill is incredible! It made me realize that I was doing a chicken wing with my lead arm during the release - so that tip you wrote on how the left arm pulls back and around the body really helped me start to feel a much better way to release the club! Also the tip of relaxing the wrists and letting them unhinge naturally is a huge key as well! What solid teaching! Thank you 🙏

    Great drill that should really be relatable for most people. I loved it because once again it keeps me on track with the basics of the swing and I start hitting the ball solidly again. Wonderful set of clips that to me are about the most important parts of the swing to understand. When you can do this drill and hit it well, then you can play this game at some point with a level of skill. I'd like to touch on one other thing and that's the grip. If you have the grip right, then the release can be automatic like you said, but without that....it just won't happen near so well. Nice work.

    To me this move defines the golf swing. Makes it so easy to understand hand action.
    With the split hand position, push the club down with the left hand and pick it up with the right on the backswing from here you are in such a great position at the top you can just power through the ball and released the hands at impact.

  • @headlesssoldier
    @headlesssoldier 5 лет назад +2

    This changed my swing . I could talk an hour about this. Lol. The extension is totally different than what I practiced. The extension is so much more low left than I was doing. And in your other video you talk about the left shoulder working up behind you on the downswing . That’s my downswing right into the back of the ball. I have never hit so straight and in balance in my life without trying.to get there. I lost distance initially , but hitting extension punches holding my low left finish got me to hone the move. Distance is back

    I have never released the club so well since I tried your drill to perfect the "push release" Still don't know why it's called the push release since it is so much more left arm than right arm. I have been a right hand hitter for my entire golf experience and now I am changed. Thank you!

    • @bigdumbanimal23
      @bigdumbanimal23 3 года назад +1

      Also, I find that it helps if you start your downswing by rolling your right foot inwards. This immediately transfers your weight and stops you from spinning open. Your right foot will come up to your toes with better timing.

    Your video is outstanding, I will add this to my practice Secession for each club....PS....Can you do a vedio on how to intentionally do a semi hook around the the corner....Its eady to punch out back to the fairway most of the time, but to take a hybrid, or 5,6,7 iron and intentionally semi hook back around the corner is somthing that can be added to your shot making ability

  • @real_Leo_Chang
    @real_Leo_Chang 5 лет назад +1

    Hitting straight duck hooks with this drill.. I think my left shoulder opens up.. Is 'keeping your left shoulder closed to the target until impact" a the correct feel? The pull mechanism on the downswing somehow doesn't register with me. Great drill a great video though as your impact position looks like you're on the tour

    • @JonathanTaylor63
      @JonathanTaylor63  5 лет назад +1

      If you are snap hooking the ball your club face is closed and your hands are behind the club at impact. Make sure your trail leg is not breaking down causing you to tilt backwards and that your hands are ahead of the ball at impact. Your left shoulder has to open to get your hands in the correct position!

  • @jasonmitchell7550

    It seems a ten finger grip helps me keep the club head behind me as your drill demonstrates. Is that grip okay to use or should I try getting that feel in another way?

      brian hutchinson don’t let your right arm bend/collapse as much on the backswing i.e. keep your right arm straighter

      @brianhutchinson5299 6 лет назад

      @@2risquejunior538 thanks very much I could do with all the help I can get.I am just not getting any distance with my irons I don't know whether I am trying to force it to much or what is the right way of swinging the clubs that would give more speed.

    Jon, some RUclips instructors propose starting this split hand move from the start of the downswing, not from last parallel. Thoughts ?

      Agreed completely! Played hockey for 25 years... Was very good. Had a pretty mean slap shot! Was always a good golfer but struggle mightily with ball striking. Stumbled upon the slap shot / golf swing similarities by shear luck and it has helped tremendously! Light bulb situation for me!
