I have been watching you along with all the other greats on RUclips for some time but I wanted you to know that the way you, Chris, explain some key concepts like in this release video is done in a way that I am able to understand and APPLY immediately. I have been struggling with my release all year and have been working on my turn through but in all my self recorded videos my left wrist kept breaking down no matter what I tried. I watched this video once, went to the range and a few 3/4 swings later I have been able to get more success than I’ve had all season. I’m working on keeping my lead arm extension after release now. I’m not a comment person but wanted to take the time today to just thank you. You also helped me greatly on my backswing when you explained how the angle of your lead arm compared to the spine doesn’t really change through the backswing. This ability you have to break down complex golf concepts in a way that makes it super easy to do is something that not many are actually able to achieve. I’m searching through your videos now to help keep my lead wrist flat on the backswing and backswing and how to get behind the shoulder at the top of the backswing. Thank you Chris. Nothing but the upmost respect.
I am so mad at how maybe the simplest golf tip I have seen out of all the videos I watched did more for my swing than anything else lol. Amazing video.
I really like this video. I was one of those golfers who wasted a LOT of time trying to 'hold lag' and struggling with a proper release. The idea of the club getting as far away as possible was a great concept to feel a proper release.
I rarely comment on anyone’s post or page but I’d be doing a disservice to the golfing public if I didn’t. You are absolutely one of the best RUclips golf instructors in terms of explanation, drills and easy to implement tips. This episode that I am commenting on, one of the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched a lot of golf videos. Thank you for all the help and keep up the good work!
When I was a new golfer years ago I did what you are showing. The pivot is what definitely creates more of the straight arm look that you demonstrate. Tiger Woods has less straight arms in his iron swing with more distinct hands releasing through the shot. If a golfer does not pivot correctly it will be a flip, results a thin/fat shot, bad result. Depending on the golfers feel, kick the forward knee out or the right new towards the ball to get the right feeling for a powerful release. Some players will feel more hands others will believe their hands to be passive. Some golfers will have more of the squat look during the transition to power the release. Hands and body working together. Great video, most people watching will also benefit from watching the foot work in the beginning, especially the trail foot on how it works inward and the knee moving towards the ball to create the whipping action. This move can create an early extension if the hips do not stay back and away to create space for the arms.
You're the best in the business! You manage to compartmentalize the golf swing making it easier to understand. And this makes it easier to practice, thank you.
What a coincidence! I was saying to mates at the clubhouse yesterday that I think I’ve reached my peak (mid to low 80s with the odd 70something) because I just can’t compress the ball. Using this tip today, I’m finally taking a divot and striking well. The best thing is this works from driver down to the short game. Thanks, Chris
I found this old video trying to self correct my swing. I can't thank you enough. I instantly fixed my non-existent release. Hit 13 greens which was my new record. Take care.
Thank you Chris. I immediately ran out into my yard and worked on this. Quite a difference. Interestingly I’ve heard the release explained a dozen times but for some reason this one made sense and stuck. Can’t wait to give it a try out on the course!
I tried this today and had near perfect strike patterns on my matt during the drill. Thank you Chris, I’ve been trying to find a flipping cure for awhile and this might be the drill for me! I’ll work to incorporate it into my swing.
For two years practicing golf, I never got the point of release, and this made me super frustrated. After practice follow the video, Finally I get it!!!! This is simplest and best one!😍
Chris Ryan videos are the most effective Ive found on youtube, great explanations great drills. Piece by piece he is removing the uncertainties from my game.
great content. I'm the exact opposite golfer whereas I over rotate my body and hang onto the angle through the swing. this gives me something to work on as a base.
This is my issue too. There are a million videos for early extenders and guys who flip. But very few for those who have the opposite issue, holding the angle too long and not letting the club release into the ball. You can get away with it with shorter clubs, but it gets harder with longer clubs. Years ago it got drilled into me to 'hold lag' and you end up dragging the club handle into the ball rather than letting the clubhead release into the ball.
Thanks for this video Chris, I've been struggling with the release a lot and this video was like a 'lightbulb' moment for me. I'm excited to put this into practice!
This is absolutely brilliant! I just started golf a little over a year ago and have been absorbing the knowledge ever since. I've taken some (group) lessons from a local pro over the winter and have been able to improve my swing quite a bit. My overall swing has become quite good actually, but I've been really struggling with a consistent strike with my irons (driver is another story, but this seems to be helping there also). I felt that I had reached my current level of play already at the end of last summer season and couldn't really improve my scores lately at all. Very frustrating. After viewing this lesson and hitting just 50-60 practice swings, I hit the course yesterday. I hit now about 80% of my iron shots pure, when it was around 50-60% before. I easily broke my record and can see a lot of potential with some more practice. I had 24 stableford points on the front 9. On back 9 my confidence backfired a little bit and I made couple of mad choice which lowered the score quite a bit, but I was still able to overcome those with my good striking. I also feel that the good shots helped me get to easier places around the green and I had my best putting day ever, 30 instead of my normal 38-40. Not bad for a 33,5 handicapper. Can't wait to get back to practicing and improving my game. Also, looking forward of what your new website is bringing!
Well explained. I thought I was doing wrong but what you explained is what I am trying to achieve. I will practice your way with more confidence. Thank you so much.
Have for many, many years followed the Leslie King Method ( this has given me a good model and some succes but has not moved me forward ). I feel that your tutorials are excellent. So have subscribed.and look forward to improving my golf further with greater feel on my swing and consequently enjoying my game and bringing about an improved swing and much better results. Your methods are very different but I feel they can be so more effective for me. I feel very optimistic. Cheers Peter
They never teach release!!!!They teach positions. So for years you will go on screwing up till you meet a real teacher like this guy. I truly believe it's because once you understand the release how you power it is up to you. As long as the structure is maintained you will play great golf. So in other words Teachers lose a student a lot quicker. This is the swing! Add your combination of accumulators and your off
I dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Alaric Colten Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
thank you! this drill worked for me like a charm. I always had a very hard time with the release but this video made it look so simple and when i tried it......it was like magic
I hadn't placed that much thought on the extension of the right arm through the arc of the golf swing until now. I believe that's just what I need to create more power in my golf swing & help to rotate my weight to the left foot. Thanks!
Love this Chris, I have always struggled with understanding exactly when/how to release. This is perfect for me, off to grab my 7 now to give this a go to get the feel!! 👌👍🙌
Extremely helpful. I have never understood why some instructors I have used in the past have never dealt with this fundamental, leading me to be a flipper. It seems sensible to me that if a person cant make a short swing correctly then why would some instructors want to encourage a full swing. Thank you for this video.
Chris, ABSOLUTELY incredible explanation of the "release" of the club at impact. I will use this drill tomorrow on the range before I move to the "full swing" and then to the course!! Keep up the great work and THANK you. 👍😎🚴♂️⛹️♀️🤸♂️
I know I'm late to this video but this has changed my game. My club head speed has increased whereby I'm hitting my 7 iron 10 to 15 yards further. However this routine has made my game more consistent. It really works. A very big thank you for such a simple tip.
You asked a while ago what was the best drill we use, well this has jumped to number 1, it has completely transformed my strike from driver to lob wedge, stopped the thins and given so much more height and distance.
Chris, thank you. I’ve taken lessons and no one and I mean no one ever explained this as clearly. You’re a genius. Question, what is the feeling that I should have to complete the swing, after the arms are extended and I’ve turned toward the target? Do you have a drill to take someone from facing the target to standing erect? Again, 😊
All teachers talk about the 1st half of the release and never about the 2nd half, because if you knew both halves (ie the whole) of the release you then may be able to hit a decent shot - and we certianly don't want that, do we?
Best I've seen of the proper release! I've been having trouble for months with contact and distance. As soon as I started releasing the club correctly, things felt much better.
Great topic and well explained, we would like to see more slow motion to help use see the swing better, its pointless to learn from the full speed swing its just a blur. Great work Chris keep it up.
Excellent, Chris. Thank you for explaining the release in detail. I have been too “flippy” in my release but didn’t know how to fix it. Love your swing and your videos!
Chris I really enjoyed this video and having your wonderfully descriptive approach in helping us in releasing the golf club properly. Love your videos. Thank You.
Excellent. Please explain "straighten the right wrist " . Unhinge? Unflex? Do I snap my wrist to add speed? Or keep it still from my downswing through impact ? Thank
Really liked this video instruction. Not sure if you check up on the older videos or not but I have a quick question. Is the release the same with woods?
Great lesson, really felt it when practicing at shoulder level. Could you please post the links to the previous lessons mentioned in the video. Or am I overlooking them .... ?

Honestly one of the best and simplest explanations of the correct release of the club I’ve ever seen. Many thanks Chris

I am 82 yr old female and thanks to this lesson, I am finally able to follow thru and really hit the ball. THANK YOU SO MUCH CHRIS✌️✌️✌️✌️
The best and most efficiant golf tip i’ve ever got. It helps almost every thing in my golf swing - from wedge to driver. Thanks Ryan.
Nice and clear - and short (so many videos are at least twice as long as they need to be) - thanks!
I am so mad at how maybe the simplest golf tip I have seen out of all the videos I watched did more for my swing than anything else lol. Amazing video.

Thanks Chris! One of the BEST DRILLS EVER!
Best hands drill I've seen. Many thanks I will try
Good teaching
I found this old video trying to self correct my swing. I can't thank you enough. I instantly fixed my non-existent release. Hit 13 greens which was my new record. Take care.
... I’ve been 10 years without knowing what the release should actually be like. Thanks, please keep these types of videos coming.
One of the best golf instructors I have seen. Very detailed and yet practical
Thank you Chris. I immediately ran out into my yard and worked on this. Quite a difference. Interestingly I’ve heard the release explained a dozen times but for some reason this one made sense and stuck. Can’t wait to give it a try out on the course!
Terrific example for hands, arms, and release....so much appreciated.
Dear Chris, I‘ve discovovered your videos last fall & I love them, thank you Sir - they’ve helped me a lot improving my game! 😊
Pure gold right here! Understanding to correct concept is absolutely essential!
The drill worked perfectly Chris, now we all need the follow up video of how to get the hands to the drill's delivery position on the down swing.
Your video completely improved my swing and I am now scoring when i play. I am a forever subscriber. Thank you.
I tried this today and had near perfect strike patterns on my matt during the drill. Thank you Chris, I’ve been trying to find a flipping cure for awhile and this might be the drill for me! I’ll work to incorporate it into my swing.
Chris great information, i was so worried about my backswing that I literally struggled with the release until just now.
Pure gold thank you
I really appreciate the slow-motion golf swings. Thanks.
For two years practicing golf, I never got the point of release, and this made me super frustrated. After practice follow the video, Finally I get it!!!! This is simplest and best one!😍
As always, brilliant instruction video. Thanks Chris.
Best on RUclips. Thanks Chris.
Such a great tip. My quality of strike is miles better now that I'm focusing on this.
Chris Ryan videos are the most effective Ive found on youtube, great explanations great drills. Piece by piece he is removing the uncertainties from my game.
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Great instrucrion as usual. I am 84 and wish You were around when I took up golf 40 years ago.
This fella is by far the best golf tutor on here 👍

Finally pinpointed the release as the main problem in my swing right now but didn't know how to fix it. This blew my mind. Thanks Chris!
Thanks for this video Chris, I've been struggling with the release a lot and this video was like a 'lightbulb' moment for me. I'm excited to put this into practice!
This drill helped me flatten my wrist and shallow out swing too. Thanks Chris.

Great drill. Wish professional instructors in general would teach the game with such simplicity as you do.

@Alaric Colten it worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
thank you! this drill worked for me like a charm. I always had a very hard time with the release but this video made it look so simple and when i tried it......it was like magic
simple explanation, clear and precise how can anyone fault your teaching is beyond me
Great drill this increased the accuracy and crispness of my strikes.
Great video .first time you can understand how that release really works. Thanks again
One of the best breakdowns explaining the release that I've seen👍 Thank you!
Great drill Chris! Thank you so much!
I hadn't placed that much thought on the extension of the right arm through the arc of the golf swing until now. I believe that's just what I need to create more power in my golf swing & help to rotate my weight to the left foot. Thanks!
I complimented you on a previous video. This is another fantastic clarificatio on an essential component that benefits everyone. Great stuff.
Great explanation, simplified by good visuals, thanks Chris

Awesome. Thank you so much. This is so insightful n practical. Agree with other fans, this got to be the best explanation.

Thank you! This exercise has really helped to improve my iron shots!
Love the explanation of the kinisthetics with drills. Thanks Chris
Great drill!! This is what i need.
Thanks, Stavros
this is an amazing video Chris. thank you for the clear explanation. can't wait to try this at the driving range
Great video, no need to be longer! Will practice this drill at the range.
really nice visual demonstration here. heading to the range now haha. thanks
The best tip ever..thanks Chris. As usual you explain easily what to do to improve our swings.
64 years old, love the drill, next time I am at range I will work on this. Thanks
I've struggled with the release for some time. This is a fantastic explanation of the concept. Thanks.
Great description of release! Can't wait to give it a go.

Really a fantastic explanation of the release !! Many thanks Chris for this 👍.
You have shown us stage 1 & 2, could you demo stage 3, through to the finish position please?
Great topic and well explained, we would like to see more slow motion to help use see the swing better, its pointless to learn from the full speed swing its just a blur.
Great work Chris keep it up.
I’ll be working on this release at our local club practice facility. It makes perfect sense.
Great drill Chris definitely gives my swing some needed help
Excellent, Chris. Thank you for explaining the release in detail. I have been too “flippy” in my release but didn’t know how to fix it. Love your swing and your videos!
Thanks Mary
Chris I really enjoyed this video and having your wonderfully descriptive approach in helping us in releasing the golf club properly. Love your videos. Thank You.
Thanks Glen
This concept was a very large part of my having lost my swing over the covid break. When I added it back in, my swing began to recover.
Excellent. Please explain "straighten the right wrist " . Unhinge? Unflex? Do I snap my wrist to add speed? Or keep it still from my downswing through impact ? Thank
I don’t know how. And I don’t know why. But your video has changed my swing for the better. Thank you!!
The biggest challenge in my game....consistent timing of the release! 🙏
That one is "Taylormade" for Me!
This drill change my life thank you very much
THE VIDEO we neeeded to see !!! Great job thanks a lot !
A really useful drill. I would begin that drill on the practice area before my game.
GREAT demo!!!
Excellent video on release! Thank you!
Great video with this amazing drill. I just tried this at the range and increased all my clubs by 10 yards!
Really liked this video instruction. Not sure if you check up on the older videos or not but I have a quick question. Is the release the same with woods?
Indeed, fantastic tip! Tried it yesterday on the course and immediately my irons and even woods were much more “flush”, almost effortlessly perfect.
Great to hear and a great feeling!
Another great video Chris 👌
Super video, thank you Chris! Please may you do a video or add the link to take it from the post impact through to the finish?
Great lesson, really felt it when practicing at shoulder level. Could you please post the links to the previous lessons mentioned in the video. Or am I overlooking them .... ?
Great information. Explain very well
Wow!! That's amazing explaining. Will definitely practice tomorrow 👍👍👍
Fantastic tip.Thanks chris
Great teaching. thanks
Hey Chris,

Thanks Daryl really glad the video had some value, guess it’s range time now to work on it!
@@ChrisRyanGolf Hi Chris, Does this apply to chips and pitches and if so how? Thanks,
Well explained will be introducing it to my practice routines
Thanks Ian
Another great lesson, my ball striking improving everyday from your drills! Thanks Chris .
Btw I love the accent !
