I love your bubbly personality so much. You have a way of bringing sunshine to a cloudy day and I love your knitting & yarn. I hope your trip goes well after your passport fiasco. 2 years ago we were all set to go on our cruise to Italy and found out the hard way that Italy wont let you in to the country if your passport is expiring in less than 6 months. My husband was detained at the gate and I couldn't figure out why he was following me to our seats on the plane...they came to get me and we couldn't go! What a mess! We went 2 months later and it was great!! Hugs from Texas!
Don't worry, you are not the only one who hasn't knit a Ranunculus sweater; I haven't either. Amber from "A Lovely Yarn" just knitted one recently and has fallen down the Ranunculus rabbit hole so hang on, you may have three of them before you know it LOL. Thanks for another fun podcast. I hope you and your family have a great trip.
I had to stop watching to tell you how stunning that black and white Shnee.....something sweater is. What a talented knitter you are! Beautiful! Ok now I'll watch the rest.
Another fun episode! Thanks so much. I love your dry sense of humor. Have to read Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's Yarn Harlot, The secret life of a knitter? She has such a wonderful sense of humor, insight and sympathy for the knitting obsessed. Her books brighten my day, as do your podcasts!
Hi Karen! It was fun to ‘visit’ with you again! I love your hand dyed yarn especially in the socks you’re making. I haven’t knit a Ranunculus either and will be curious to see how your turns out! I’m sure you can handle the lace-I love the way you embrace new challenges! Have a wonderful vacation and I’m looking forward to joining the virtual knit meeting!
First, you are doing a great job dying yarn, the colors are so good. I really like the Ardleigh Hat, that yarn is beautiful. I like it without the pompom. You are a knitting star in my book, that Shneeflocken is gorgeous, you should really be proud of that accomplishment.I would love to make it, but.....😬 The trouble you had to go through with the passports, I don't know how you still have any hair on your head, I would have pulled mine all out. Take care and stay safe.
Hi Karen, Your colorwork sweater looks amazing! It was worth every stitch, worry, and redo. I haven't done the Ranunculus yet, so you're not alone; I don't like mohair, and lace isn't my thing, but I've been tempted to try it. I may yet, if I find the yarn. Have a great trip to the UK, hopefully the super warm weather will be over by then.
Your Schneeflocken is so lovely!! I'm sure it feels great to have finished it! I've really enjoyed watching it become this beautiful sweater. I only just finished a Ranunculus in July. I haven't even worn it yet...so I don't think I'll do another, but maybe once I start wearing it i'll love it? and want to do it again. We shall see. Your passport drama sounds so stressful, and something that would totally happen to me! Glad it's all worked out, I hope you have a wonderful trip!!
Hi Karen, I’m knitting the ranunculus right now. The yarn you have looks perfect. I think you’ll like the pattern. There are so many videos to help if you get stuck. I’m in Chicago too. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Karen! Tammi here from the Wool and Wine podcast. I knit a Ranunculus in ITO Kinu held double. I used US#9 needles. It is so good! You will love it. 💕
Your passport story had me chuckling and glad it all worked out in the end! And you should be very proud of your colorwork sweater. That was quite an endeavor for your first time. I’ve only done one colorwork sweater-loved the process but I’m just not a wearer of colorwork sweaters. Love them on everyone else but they’re not for me. Have a fun trip to the UK and hope it’s cooler there!
Hey Karen - knit the ranunculus - it would be great in that yarn. If you want less positive ease you could 5.5mm needles instead of 6mm which is what I did and it turned out great. Also, if you're worried about the lace definitely use stitch markers to break up the repeats - makes it way easier to know if you've made a mistake before you finish a row.
Lovely yarns. No you’re not the only non renunculas maker! I too have a horror passport story - at least you can laugh I guess you have to!! Hope you have a great time over here x
OMG on the passport story! So crazy and I have done that applying with all 4 of my 4 kids at the post office and it felt like I couldn't possibly have gotten all the forms, photos, etc. right. So stressful! Enjoy your adventures in dyeing yarn and the Schneeflocken is gorgeous!
Wow the yarn dying is going well!!! 🧡💛🧡 schneeflaken? Is fabulous 😍 you always Crack me up! I'm knitting the Tilted texture shawl in ecopuno bronze colorway for atp-kal (forgot the #) 😆
Really enjoyed this episode! Know the feeling of when some projects just take forever - even though you really want the finished garment, it just drags on :-) Glad it worked out with your passports! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
Love your sweater!!! Looks perfect! Last year I knit the Ranunculus and had no idea what I was doing, I only got 4” positive ease🤷🏻♀️nothing like the pattern suggests! I also made it a tighter gauge, on smaller needles, not so gauzy 😜. I had trouble with the neck cast on, made no sense to me, but all the podcasters who have made it have never commented on it. I reached out to one, and she said she just cast on 90 sts and went straight into a rib collar, so just food for thought. Hope you have a great holiday! We also hit panic with my dtr, her passport expired and she was scheduled to fly internationally in 27 days, fortunately there’s a ‘program’ to address those who are travelling within a tight time frame and she got it in good time!
Oh my goodness, I just LOVE the golden yarn you’ve dyed!!!! I was so excited by it that I momentarily forgot my current no-buy policy & I went and looked at it on Etsy before I got ahold of myself. This sort of thing is exactly why I was on a knitting-podcast-watching hiatus until just recently 😅🤪 It’s a beautiful yarn & your hat is fab! Ok, I’m going to unpause your video now and try not to daydream about that yarn as I watch 😁
I always enjoy your podcast! 🥰 I have not knit a Ranunculus yet, but am planning to in the near future. I hope you enjoy your trip to the UK! I'm jealous! 😅 I hope you'll show us some videos of places you went on the next podcast! ☺️
Hi Karen. You are not alone regarding the Ranunculus. Funny thing though, I purchased the pattern yesterday, then watched Amber over at 'A Lovely Yarn' and now you are thinking of making one as well. I am using DK weight and making short sleeves. Haven't cast on as of yet, but have my yarn ready to go.
The Ranunculus pattern now comes in a few sizes, but it is very easy to alter so you can make it however you like. It's a quick knit so may want to take socks along.
I enjoyed this video so much!! it's my first time seeing your RUclips, I first saw you on tiktok! 😄 I am AGHAST at your passport story. I feel like I would have ended up in the Heathrow with invalid passports scenario. That is so smart that you noticed your other checks had been cashed. OMG.
Oh my gosh I had no idea you had a RUclips or Instagram lol. I know how silly that must sound. But I found you on tik tok and I just never thought to look! But I am so glad that I found you on these other platforms now! I just love your content I can relate to it so so often!
Love your podcast, i am also in the not knitted a Ranunculus team. would love to join a zoom meet up but our time zones might not allow that. But lets try anyway. Enjoy your trip. 🧶🧶🧶✈🛬
Hi Karen, your sweater is stunning! I wanted to let you know about a couple podcasts; Dayna from This Yellow Farmhouse has a tutorial on how she makes pompoms to last, the Gary from The Knitting Man is phenomenal with the way he does his stranded knitting. Have a great holiday!!
Great video, thanks. I haven’t knit the Ranunculus either! I’m sorry you had all the passport hassle - thank goodness you sorted it in time. I’m excited that you are coming to the UK ! Where are you going? I live near the New Forest on the Dorset/Hampshire/Wiltshire border. Let’s hope you have some good weather - we have a heatwave atm - 34 degrees C today🥵 Your yarn dyeing is great. I know exactly what you mean by always being surprised what you get! It’s fun though😊
No, I have not knit the Ranunculus the or Love Note. I am motivated to, but not sure if I can knit the lace correctly! Bern knitting baby stuff the whole summer! Enjoy your vacation!
The yarn weight will affect the size of the ranunculus. Also the size of the needle you use. You know buying some yarn in UK will make a wonderful souvenir. They will have yarn you can’t get in the US. I bought a sweater quantity when i was in Paris earlier this year and i can’t wait to knit it up.
Please check the latest update on the Ranunculus - it’s no longer a one-size-fits-all, it’s been graded for eleven sizes I think so you don’t have to do the guess work anymore 🤗
I JUST knit my first Ranunculus a month ago. I used Shawl In A Ball by Lion Brand and I Love It. You will too. Also...mine is NOT huge. Probably less than 6 inches positive ease.
@@knotfancyknitter I could not have done mine without watching "Sun Dragon Tips & Tricks" for all Rebecca's tutorials. Here's a link... ruclips.net/p/PLdm0UsJRGj9Z1FPuwVSpoPAuf1l8ZDGbf
You’re always so fun! I’m still trying to get through my first Love Note so definitely haven’t done a Ranunculus but I feel like I’m seeing it everywhere again so maybe I’ll try to get through both at the same time 😂

Great passport story! Glad it all worked out. what yarn stores are you going to in the UK??
Did you go up a needle size for the color work portion?
I’m sure they sell yarn in Europe. Why don’t you wait until you get there and sneak in to a shop.
After you pull one end through the other, give the skein a whack on the counter or table. It will magically pop into skein shape.🧶
