GDQ's late night speedruns get a little too real.
Why does the screen disappear with "No Signal" every time she opens the item menu or goes to another zone? Makes it a lot more difficult to follow :(
The game changes resolution when it goes to the menu. The capture equipment GDQ was using couldn't switch resolutions fast enough.
I was honestly only able to listen for 2 minuuttess??

I actually really love the commentary it's funny because of how rediculous the game's story and quests are from a speedrunning perspective. I just hate that tech couldn't resolve the signal issue.
I love this run
I would guess it's possible to speed hack the English game, or to copy over the text boxes to the Japanese one. Maybe an idea for the next time this is run, so we can laugh at the bad translation.

Very bizarre perspective in this game. Speaking of bizarre, the commentary is both calming and irritating at the same time haha.
To be honest after you got used to it, it was pretty funny.

You guys know that the "no signal" thing is because the game isn't literally sending any signal because it is loading and it's only a black screen, right?
I don't think so. She talks like she's still playing parts while the screen says "no signal." I think there's something wrong with either the game, the console, or the connection.
Also, normal games don't drop signal, even when the screen is blank. I'm pretty sure it's just how the console works. And that's more evidence that something was going wrong.
Kinda - often when it says No Signal you can hear sound effects and see light from the television shining on her. Might be a several-second delay for it to pick up the signal coming back
the no signal happens everytime she goes in or leaves the menu(specially item/equip menu) and the systems takes quite a bit to get the new signal after losing it. Long periods of no signal is a quick menu usage and moving out... so yeah losing quite a bit of the gameplay.
Normally, I'd expect a console to always produce a stable video signal, but maybe the game code does some _really_ funky things with the picture processing unit during menu loading. But still, it takes their capturing equipment way too long to resync. However, I also saw intermittent “no signal” in several of the other SNES runs from this event where they definitely shouldn't have occurred, so maybe they had some equipment issues as well.
Nah, the game is runs at a different screen resolution in the menus. On CRT televisions, that's not a problem. But on modern LCDs and capture devices, it takes them a moment to detect and switch to the new resolution. So the runner and people on the couch can see the game just fine on their CRT. When she's going from game screen, to menu, back to game screen again, the capture device takes even longer. That's why sometimes the No Signal would come up, then go to a black screen, then go to No Signal again, and finally back to the game. Hopefully the GDQ staff can find a capture setup that handles resolution switching better in the future. There's actually quite a few games that switch resolutions on the fly.

The uptalk doesn't bother me. It's just a part of the sarcastic character she's playing, and that character is hilarious. Sure, I'd prefer the run without it. There are other ways to do that character. But it's not that big a deal.
The constant connection problems, however, are definitely annoying. I hope that there's another recording that doesn't have these problems, and that the AGDQ people rush out the fixed version of this stream.
Because that is hard to watch.

Ugh. Loved this game in the early 1990's but so few reviews/playthroughs that are relatable to old Gen-X players. Regardless, good on the player but not for me.
It's almost like it's a speedrun and Japanese is faster for that purpose.

I get that she was trolling, but seriously, save it for something that ISN'T a charity event. World doesn't revolve around her, it's like she totally missed the point of the marathon. You don't try and aggravate viewers when you are raising money for charity...

This shit was so funny. Lord British is treated like a genius in gaming history, and he kind of is, but this game makes nearly no sense at all. Sometimes even great programmers should just team up with writers and not try to come up with all of the "puzzles" and quests by themselves.

one of the unforgetablle moments of AGDQ 2018. wanted to watch the run but had to mute the audio. it was un-fucking-bearable. like listening to a spring going boing boing boing.
I think this was the worst run of the agdq, the runner annoyed me a bit and the signal kept cutting out. I don't know how they let that keep happening, no signal is pretty annoying.

I'm sure AGDQ saw that as some kind of victory. "Ha ha ha, this memeing got a bunch of our donors to turn off the stream in frustration, joke's on THEM!"
Had to stop the video about six minutes into the run. Her speaking style just grated on my nerves. Thumbing briefly through the comments it's clear that I'm not the only one.

Super big shame to see one of the few girls at GDQ getting so much hate. Not sure whether I'm more frustrated that she felt the need to do the valley girl voice when she's representing a minority in the community or whether I'm more frustrated that there are so few girls that it's such a big deal when one of them pulls an ultimately harmless prank like this.
