Technology wasn't matured enough when the first crash land missions happened. Few reasons why they do it is that the spacecraft dont have to carry extra fuel, thrusters, landing control systems etc etc which would weigh a lot and leaving earth gravity with extra weight means bigger rockets, fuel, expenses etc. So during crash land missions you could get close to the lunar surface while gather info at the cost of losing a module.

Just to give a contrast Chandrayan-2's planning started 11years back and scientists put their 100% effort to make that mission successful chandrayaan-2 was a half successful mission as the orbitor was placed in its orbit successful and chandrayan -2 lander Vikram travelled about 3,78,000 kilometres but failed to land on the moon's surface just for 2 kms all the hard work and patience went in vain 💔

the impact mission he said was to get enough reading from the surrounding while crashing and send it back to the orbiter which is revolving in the orbit which releases the thing to crash on the moon and then that orbiter send the information that is recieved by the crashing part back to the earth one by one by storing all the info it recieved by the crasher part while it is in the atmosphere of the moon while crashing, the orbiter of the chandrayan 1 and 2 is still revolving around the moon which helped 3 by providing some scientific info about the moon to land softly
05:50 On Crashing of LUNA 25, India was not like "Ha Ha Ha". Becuase we Indians are not like Americans OR Europeans, We don't believe in ridiculing others on their failures.
There are some factual errors in this video. The problem in Chandrayan 2 was not just in the Engine but the issue was primarily with the software and algorithms. They've set a way too small landing area, and the lander was programmed only to land on that specific location (this us because they didn't program it based on failure based models ar everystep, as they've rectified it in th subsequent Chandrayn 3. And there was a fixed orientation stage in Chandrayan -2 's descent, where the land3r calibrates its position and scans Lunar surface. This phase needs the lander to be in a fixed orientation and so cannot self correct its path till it finishes it's calibration. And since no failure protocol has been programmed, when the lander strayed away way off from its ideal landing spot, and after the fixed orientation phase, when the lander's computer took over the control, it's descent velocity was higher and it was few kilometres away from its spot. Since, there was no alternative programmed for such a situation, and since it's automated, the lander tried to course correct drastically due to the huge deviation, instead of decelerating it's vertical velocity, thus, firing thrusters horizontally. And since there was a 25 degree limitation on the rotation speed, the lander couldn't change it's orientation intime to reorient vertically by the time it reached very close to the surface and had to fully suspend it's vertical velocity of descent.., thus leading to the crash. So, to tackle these, the chandrayan 3 was designed with failure oriented algorithms to tackle deviations at every stage. They also increased the thruster capacity, rotational Speed limit and many more upgradations on a number of additional sensors. They also strengthened the landing gear to sustain heavy loada as high as few meters per seconds. Andat the end it all paid off successfully!!

Technology wasn't matured enough when the first crash land missions happened. Few reasons why they do it is that the spacecraft dont have to carry extra fuel, thrusters, landing control systems etc etc which would weigh a lot and leaving earth gravity with extra weight means bigger rockets, fuel, expenses etc. So during crash land missions you could get close to the lunar surface while gather info at the cost of losing a module.

Just to give a contrast Chandrayan-2's planning started 11years back and scientists put their 100% effort to make that mission successful chandrayaan-2 was a half successful mission as the orbitor was placed in its orbit successful and chandrayan -2 lander Vikram travelled about 3,78,000 kilometres but failed to land on the moon's surface just for 2 kms all the hard work and patience went in vain 💔

the impact mission he said was to get enough reading from the surrounding while crashing and send it back to the orbiter which is revolving in the orbit which releases the thing to crash on the moon and then that orbiter send the information that is recieved by the crashing part back to the earth one by one by storing all the info it recieved by the crasher part while it is in the atmosphere of the moon while crashing, the orbiter of the chandrayan 1 and 2 is still revolving around the moon which helped 3 by providing some scientific info about the moon to land softly

I found akash Banerjee ( deshbhakt) video was more informative than dhruv rathee.
There are some factual errors in this video. The problem in Chandrayan 2 was not just in the Engine but the issue was primarily with the software and algorithms.
They've set a way too small landing area, and the lander was programmed only to land on that specific location (this us because they didn't program it based on failure based models ar everystep, as they've rectified it in th subsequent Chandrayn 3. And there was a fixed orientation stage in Chandrayan -2 's descent, where the land3r calibrates its position and scans Lunar surface. This phase needs the lander to be in a fixed orientation and so cannot self correct its path till it finishes it's calibration. And since no failure protocol has been programmed, when the lander strayed away way off from its ideal landing spot, and after the fixed orientation phase, when the lander's computer took over the control, it's descent velocity was higher and it was few kilometres away from its spot. Since, there was no alternative programmed for such a situation, and since it's automated, the lander tried to course correct drastically due to the huge deviation, instead of decelerating it's vertical velocity, thus, firing thrusters horizontally.
And since there was a 25 degree limitation on the rotation speed, the lander couldn't change it's orientation intime to reorient vertically by the time it reached very close to the surface and had to fully suspend it's vertical velocity of descent.., thus leading to the crash.
So, to tackle these, the chandrayan 3 was designed with failure oriented algorithms to tackle deviations at every stage. They also increased the thruster capacity, rotational Speed limit and many more upgradations on a number of additional sensors. They also strengthened the landing gear to sustain heavy loada as high as few meters per seconds. Andat the end it all paid off successfully!!
