@@1882Stu - Basic facts, I was in high school, I went with my older brother. We had floor seats (only $90 at the time) . I was one of the only Hart fans in attendance. I had school friends who had 300 level seats, so they hated me for being closer). Oh, I was also at WM22 in Chicago too.
I agree. Heel Bret was better than babyface Bret. Good guy Bret was great but heel Bret is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. I wish heel Bret stayed in wwf for the attitude era!
This was one of the best rivalries professional wrestling ever produced. Owen Hart, Stone Cold, The British Bulldog, and Shawn Michaels, all their best rivalries were with Bret Hart.
Heel Bret was amazing. I was 12 at the time and hated his guts, even knowing that wrestling may not be on the level. What’s scary is that that Brets character that felt that he was screwed all the time actually blended very nicely with his real thoughts after Montreal, making all of 1997 seem very surreal in hindsight. Bret’s heel promo’s in WCW were great too, especially when he talks about how El Dandy shouldn’t be questioned as a top challenger to his US title compared to guys like DDP and Piper. It just sucks that WCW had no idea how to utilize him.
It is an absolute crime against wrestling that the WWF/WWE didn't have heel Bret during the peak of the AE. (then again I guess that would have created a bit of a paradox)
This is the most brilliant feud of all time in my opinion. The great thing about it is from a kayfabe perspective, Bret had the higher moral ground. Austin showed here how to go over massively even in losing. Brilliant job by both men.
Rock and Austin were the big money matches, Bret and Shawn had the real life rivalry but THIS was the rivalry in my opinion. From late 96 through 97 this was magic. The matches, the promos everything. Brilliant
Everything that was happening in WWF between late 96-late 97 was great. The matches, storylines and growing excitement each week was incredible! You could really feel something big was happening, things were moving into new places. The whole Austin/ Hart Foundation storyline was brilliant. Bret played the Heel in the US brilliantly, and whenever wwe went up the road into Canada, it was fascinating to see him get the face reaction in the home country. It was such a good opposite to the heat he got in the US as Austin's ascendency was becoming irresistible to see and feel. It was an amazing time for wwe. Alongside all of that, the Undertaker, HBK, Mankind- they were all getting better and better angles and momentum.
Best match in the history of pro wrestling. An absolutely perfect match. The first "double turn". And Steve stunning the ref after the match was the exact moment I became a Stone Cold fan. He was an anti-hero. Which was a term wrestling didn't even have a word for. He wasn't a heel or face, he was both. And it worked.
There has never been a turn, let alone a double turn, pulled off as perfectly as this one was. From the story work leading up to it, to the match itself, nobody can ever touch the work everyone did. When I saw everyone, I mean everyone, from Guerrilla Monsoon as the “president” to Vince, Jerry Lawler, and Brett and Austin. Everyone played their parts so perfectly. Brett calling for color absolutely sealed the deal. If only they could claim causing the blood to perform the way it did lol.
When I saw this match LIVE on ppv I was 10 years old. My jaw was on the floor. I watched so much wrestling but nothing like this. I was saying holy sh*t this match is serious! I just knew I was witnessing a CLASSIC WRESTLEMANIA MATCH that would be spoken of for years to come. But I never thought I'd think it was the best match I've EVER seen. It is, the more you watch it the better it gets. You see the art in THEIR wrestling.
Dirtsheets writers took that rumor and ran with it. There was no Shawn dropping it back to Bret planned. Bruce Pritchard confirmed this. Shawn spent 1992-1994 doing favors for Bret as requested by Vince. 1996 it was Bret's turn. Shawn didn't need to "return the favor"
One of my Top WM matches of all times! The only match i've seen that the the babyface entered the ring & came out as a big heel & the heel entered and came out a babyface! It could have been sweeter if the Wwf title was on the line!!
I cant understand how you dont have more subscribers this is an excellent channel for any age group of wrestling fan thank you and keep up the good work
The best part of this feud and match was it made both men look great. Bret Hart literally leaves Stone Cold Steve Austin passed out in a pool of his own blood on the grandest stage of them all, yet somehow Austin is the one who came out looking amazing. The shining example of wrestling storytelling, character work, in-ring performance and psychology. It's about as perfect as it gets.
Great video I remember always showing this match to my friends who used to say wrestling is fake, makes me sad wwe writers have forgotten how to build matches like this anymore
the match symbolize the old WWF vs the new WWF from the stars, venue, matches, storylines. Things got more raw and personal and edgy. Great commentary 👍👍
To me this WrestleMania looking almost like a episode of Monday night raw. it did not feel like a special WrestleMania like it always used to be maybe it was just a venue, the interest way or the lighting. It just didn't look right for your kind of WrestleMania.
Excellent video bro, I was 13 when this match took place and it tore me apart as I was forever a HUGE Hitman fan but my love of Austin was growing. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire match and stood for the last 5 minutes when Austin got busted open. When he passed out and they had that double turn my head exploded, I couldn't believe the magic I just witnessed and have never seen a match as good as this was. My all time favorite match.

@@vipset87 my opinion is the creative writing team, back then there was vince, pat, vince russo, ed, j.r and jim cornette that was it all men who knew what made good angles and good story telling...as time went they now have about 30 different writers most of which have no experience of writing a wrestling show and also now have to write scripts which stops any wrestlers personality shinning through today, that and the fact vinnie mac has completely lost touch in what todays wrestling fans want to see..to him its something completely different a form of comedy entertainment with wrestling mixed in.
You forgot Bruce Pritchard.Bruce Pat Paterson and Jim Cornette and Vince McMahon were the best of creative. WWE would be a lot better if they hired Jim Cornette to write creative now.

@@1882Stu saying Bret's the only one left of the Hart Foundation. I say the same thing and I always refer to the 97 version. Mostly because I know it the best
This shows why Wwf was better than Wcw, Wcw messed up thier biggest matches/storie lines (sting v hogan) when Wwf nailed it even under last minute changes.
They had Booker's at WCW and gave creative control to a certain Wrestlers who would mess up future storylines to make themselves look good for one match. Most wrestlers didn't know anything until right up to match time.
I'm going to say something about Bret's interview skills. Never screaming or over the top. Never hilarious. Never relying on one-liners. But always very very believable. Always. Edit: check out that interview where he talks about in Canada we take care of our sick and elderly.
Excellent summary of one of my favorite angles and matches of all time. Austin and Hart were in their prime as performers and this feud was booked down to the T. This feud was very instrumental to laying the groundwork for the Attitude era. It saddens me immensly, how an inept WCW pissed everything away that Bret had going for him, when he jumped ship.
This to me was the start of the Attitude Era. They began making changes few weeks before Mania 13 with the Titantron and ramp and Raw IS War as well as the guys starting to show more edginess and attitude. Love this match and this time in wrestling. The Attitdue Era kickoff began here imo. Great video.
I think the king of the ring made stone cold, beating jake the snake and dropping that Austin 3:16 promo afterward. This match to me was stone cold’s best match
This match was a classic example of storytelling in wrestling, and of one iconic superstar passing the torch to an up-and-coming future star. Bret Hart respected Steve Austin and appreciated his work ethic, and it shows. He won the match, but he also made Austin look like a million bucks and planted a seed for him to take off and become one of the biggest stars in the history of professional wrestling. WrestleMania 13 totally sucked, other than this match. Just this one match alone made it worth the money. They could have just cut out all the other matches and had this one only, and I still would have paid the full price of admission. That's how good Bret and Austin were here.
At 6:30 I am so happy you gave this match proper credit. The SS 96 match is damn near perfect. It is a perfect example of pro wrestling excellence. Of course, the WM 13 match is off the chain.
Its the greatest wrestling match of all time, let alone wrestle mania. Everything was great in Hart and Austin fued, from their history, build up, promos and things leading to this match. The match was excellent with brillant ending and famous double turn. Hart and austin share great story and told that false finish are not required to have a great match. Bret Hart was GOAT. Great video thumbs up for wrestling bios.
I totally agree that Bret Hart is an underrated promo guy. I am not saying he is at the level of guy like Dusty Rhodes, Rock or Ric Flair. But at times he was actually really good. His promo at the Toronto Nitro in 99 is still a favourite of mine.
This is my most memorable match of all time. I haven’t seen it in about 10 years, but it was iconic all the way down to the commentary. JR saying after the match something along the lines of ‘he’s lost all kinds of blood , and he doesn’t give a damn’. Wow! Still gives me chills. Great upload!
Great work with the video! This was one of my all time favorite matches, the double turn was awesome. Your content makes me miss the good old days of the attitude era which was personally my favorite era.

Love these videos based on big matches! My ALL TIME FAVORITE WM moment was hands down Wrestlemania VI Ultimate Warrior v Hulk Hogan “The Ultimate Challenge”
Not really Shawn Michaels started the attitude era after convincing Vince to let him do more edgy style promos Shawn even got fined in real life for his promo with jim ross Austin did add to it in a major way but if Shawn never talked Vince into letting them do it Steve woulda never been allowed to say the things he did unfortunately Shawn broke his back and missed out on most of the attitude era
One if not my favorite rivalries. It just felt so real like these 2 truly hated eachother and it’s cool to see them years later being so respectful when talking about there rivalry back in the day.
Brett’s heal run is kinda undervalued because it really is what set the WWE on it’s new course. This is where the heal/face line started to get blurred and attitude started to permeate the WWF.
What's memorable about this match was it was a brawl till the end & it felt like a war, especially the scene where Bret Hart's daughter was covering her face as she couldn't see her father getting beaten down & getting applied in the walls of Jericho by Steve Austin, it told the story of this match.
A Bret masterclass in match structure and execution. That's why they call him the excellence of execution in the biz, not just his exemplary performance consistency but he could execute a match perfectly from start to finish. A lost art nowadays seemingly.
Maybe I am the only one here, but from my point of view, basically everything Brett said leading up to the events of 'mania 13 was absolutely true and in reality was still a Babyface afterwards.
The thing that made the double turn so PERFECT was that neither wrestler changed who they were, they just expanded the crowd's understanding of their character.

If there was no finger poke of Death and Bischoff didn’t relieve Austin and him going to ECW and then WWF, it may have happened. You’re right that WWF had the better main eventers and it’s true that they were isolated. Plus, that red, white and blue ring ropes and Vince’s very old-man yawn talking made it look so lame. I haven’t watched the 1997 documentary but looking at that year it was like a 180 and set the stage (no pun intended b/c of the titantron) for something to see.
if you see quality, you respect it. This match deserved respect and the beauty is every legit wrestling supporter adore this feud, it was that good....
I was never the biggest wresting fan but I remember these to owning that ring!!! Props to those who deserve it
Nothing was better than being there live at WM13. The match was the highlight of the card.

I wish we woulda got to see heel Bret for longer!
I agree. Heel Bret was better than babyface Bret. Good guy Bret was great but heel Bret is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. I wish heel Bret stayed in wwf for the attitude era!
Bret helped start stone colds big push! Mr. McMahon was started because of Bret, and DX started because of Bret’s Degenerate comment also.
Bret Hart literally could have an amazing match with anybody. Excellence of execution is right on. The man was ahead of his time
This channel it's underrated... Keep going man... You have a amazing series of videos.
Thank you! There's a lot I could improve but really cool to hear people enjoy watching. I appreciate your comment!
The birth of the attitude era. Two legends whose careers need way too soon. My 2 favorite wrestlers of all time
I love these videos. This is the feud that got me back into wrestling as a teenager. Keep up the great work.
Bret Hart always loved working with Steve Austin and vice versa so this storyline really made both mens careers.
This is the most brilliant feud of all time in my opinion. The great thing about it is from a kayfabe perspective, Bret had the higher moral ground. Austin showed here how to go over massively even in losing. Brilliant job by both men.
They both became legendary in their own right when it comes to professional wrestling!!!!
The Promos alone were insanely great 😎🖕💪🖕👊👌👍
Better than today's garbage
Long before Taker vs Michaels. This match set the standard for WrestleMania matches!
Rock and Austin were the big money matches, Bret and Shawn had the real life rivalry but THIS was the rivalry in my opinion. From late 96 through 97 this was magic. The matches, the promos everything. Brilliant
Austin and Undertaker was big money too. They still hold the Summerslam PPV record.
@@GorditoCrunch343 SummerSlam 1998. I can still remember the build up to that. Boy was that not an awesome time in WWE?
WM13 had without question, the greatest rematch in history!!!!! Keep it up my guy.....each vid better than the last top shelf for sure!!!!!🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
One of the best matches ever .
The best match ever
This is awesome im glad you changed it up to this style love the direction of your channel
I was at the lost his smile show when shawn Michaels gave the belt over
Best match in the history of pro wrestling.
I was 12 it was fkn WILD
Losing his smile , you mean being a baby and didn’t want to return the favor to Bret .
R.C. Jonas
Bruce “hhh and shawn asskisser” Prichard”? Oh yeah he did talk about that.
DmanDice the more accurate description would be Bruce "Vince ass kisser and yes man" Pritchard.
I love your channel dude! I really enjoy finding out the history of wrestlers 🤘
One of my Top WM matches of all times! The only match i've seen that the the babyface entered the ring & came out as a big heel & the heel entered and came out a babyface! It could have been sweeter if the Wwf title was on the line!!
The double turn was the best in history like mentioned. And what better event than WM to do it. Two great legends of the industry.
Bret’s promos in 1997 were awesome
Yes indeed
If you want to take a nap yeah they were great

Great video I remember always showing this match to my friends who used to say wrestling is fake, makes me sad wwe writers have forgotten how to build matches like this anymore
This match started the attitude era
Attitude era started and ended with Austin
the match symbolize the old WWF vs the new WWF from the stars, venue, matches, storylines.
Storytelling at its finest
Awesome video as always..man the booking of today can not come anywhere close to the quality of the booking during that whole fued and time period, just shows how good pro wrestling can be when done right....can I just throw out some random selections for future vids, rick martel, tatanka, mr.hughes
hey im just curious as to why you think that is? why isnt the booking as good today as it was back in the late 90s
The creative team nowadays are a bunch of yes men who write stories that please Vince, and not the Fans
You forgot Bruce Pritchard.Bruce Pat Paterson and Jim Cornette and Vince McMahon were the best of creative. WWE would be a lot better if they hired Jim Cornette to write creative now.
Heck they ought to ask Ric Flair to help with creative talk about wrestling knowledge forty plus years of knowledge.
Absolutely brilliant channel and what a video of my personal favourite rivalry. Hart and Austin really were made for each other and brought the best out of one another. WM13 match is the GOAT in my opinion, has everything in it and more
Wow, talk about memory lane, never get the same emotions nowadays.
Brilliantly done with all the lead up and what came next, absolutely brilliant
This is one of the best matches of all time, the double turn from baby face to heel and vice versa was incredible to watch at the time.
Kinda sad that as of May 19th 2019, Bret is the only member of the hart foundation that is still alive.
Bret was always the foundation of the Hart Foundation. Glad they were finally honored in the HoF this year.

Great top quality video bro, this is one of my favourite matches and I never get sick of seeing it over and over 😀😀
Brilliantly put together! Great summary - what a period for WWF.
At the time, WWF definitely had better main event performers but WCW had them completely destroyed in the midcard
6:27 because you gave me permission to go watch this match, I will definitely come back to this video. I hate leaving things unfinished.
greatest wresting match documentary of all time. 👏👏👏👏
Great job 👍.... That match was one of my favorite matches of all time. Very well done.... Love your channel bro..🤘
The match that made Austin's career....
" let me make myself clear if you put the letter s if of hitman you have my exact opinion of bret hart" stone cold in your house september 22 1996.
I think the king of the ring made stone cold, beating jake the snake and dropping that Austin 3:16 promo afterward. This match to me was stone cold’s best match
Austin made Austin's career
Brett Hart vs. Steve Austin was a very underrated feud and I enjoyed reliving it through your video. Your channel is great, keep up the good work.
OUTSTANDING sir!!! This was fantastic! Thanks!
I totally agree that Bret Hart is an underrated promo guy. I am not saying he is at the level of guy like Dusty Rhodes, Rock or Ric Flair.
But at times he was actually really good.
His promo at the Toronto Nitro in 99 is still a favourite of mine.
My favourite match/storyline of all time.
“You treat me like a dog and expect me to smile, you remind me of a jackass! “
- Steve Austin
This is my most memorable match of all time. I haven’t seen it in about 10 years, but it was iconic all the way down to the commentary. JR saying after the match something along the lines of ‘he’s lost all kinds of blood , and he doesn’t give a damn’. Wow! Still gives me chills. Great upload!
Great work with the video! This was one of my all time favorite matches, the double turn was awesome. Your content makes me miss the good old days of the attitude era which was personally my favorite era.
As a guy who plays a 1987 real world mod on Total Extreme Wrestling, these videos are great for backstory and setting up feuds and storylines. Thankyou for making these.
Love these videos based on big matches! My ALL TIME FAVORITE WM moment was hands down Wrestlemania VI Ultimate Warrior v Hulk Hogan “The Ultimate Challenge”
Bret Hart and Stone Cold are the founding members of the Attitude Era
Not really Shawn Michaels started the attitude era after convincing Vince to let him do more edgy style promos Shawn even got fined in real life for his promo with jim ross Austin did add to it in a major way but if Shawn never talked Vince into letting them do it Steve woulda never been allowed to say the things he did unfortunately Shawn broke his back and missed out on most of the attitude era

Brett’s heal run is kinda undervalued because it really is what set the WWE on it’s new course. This is where the heal/face line started to get blurred and attitude started to permeate the WWF.

This match is truly timeless. What a classic.
P.s I just noticed I commented on this vid two yrs ago 😁
What's memorable about this match was it was a brawl till the end & it felt like a war, especially the scene where Bret Hart's daughter was covering her face as she couldn't see her father getting beaten down & getting applied in the walls of Jericho by Steve Austin, it told the story of this match.
Still all these years later my favorite WWE/F match ever
A Bret masterclass in match structure and execution. That's why they call him the excellence of execution in the biz, not just his exemplary performance consistency but he could execute a match perfectly from start to finish. A lost art nowadays seemingly.
Great video. That was better than anything we see on both Raw & SD. More bios like this please

Terrific presentation, although I was looking forward to the material about the blading, which is one of my fave stories in Hart's autobiography.

Another great video.
This is also one of my favourite matches.
Maybe I am the only one here, but from my point of view, basically everything Brett said leading up to the events of 'mania 13 was absolutely true and in reality was still a Babyface afterwards.
He certainly had points and some moments I actually agreed with him
That was the beauty of it. He had EVERY right to complain so when he "turned" he was justified in what he said. Brilliant story telling
My all time favorite Wrestlemania match.
