I love that star media broke events down simply and explained things in a simple way for us normal people to understand. Some documentaries speak about whatever the historical topic is like we are all historians. This is well done!! Thank you so much for uploading it for us. Im such a history geek!!! LOVE IT!!!
History is my passion and a I’m particularly interested in Russian history. This series is very well done, with narration being first class. Every dynasty has intrigue, murder and corruption at its core. Ruthless - no room for emotion and little room for ethical standards. ‘The Dynasty must live on’.
I ❤️ all these episodes! I've watched them AT LEAST 4 times. I've told so many friends to watch these (those interested in the Romanovs) I've learned so much from these and have found a love for the history of Russia and has inspired me to learn about other countries histories. Thank you so much for the English voiceovers! *Virtual Hugs* 🤗
An interesting, even some mystical fact. The Romanov Dynasty began in the "Ipatiev Monastery". The first Czar Michael lived there. The Romanov Dynasty ended in the "Ipatiev house". The last Czar was executed there. Such a coincidence. Such an irony of fate.
Another terrible coincidence: the dynasty began with the murder of a child (Maria Mnishek's son) and ended with the murder of a child ( Tsarevich Alexey)
What a fantastic documentary!! It literally filled in all of the blanks from what I missed from my studies in college. I look forward to watching the rest of the videos. Thanks for posting them!!
The Accuracy of this documentary was exemplary! It's is great and I can't wait to watch it until the end. By the way it's my first time watching the history of the Romanov Dynasty who ruled Russian Empire for more than half a century. Thank you StarMedia for sharing this one of a kind Documentary.Спасибо
After viewing the entire series, this is one of the absolute best documentaries I've ever watched. Not only was the content interesting, but it was presented wonderfully. Thanks!
If HBO only saw the potential of making a multiseason tv-show about Russian history... it would be more populat than Game of Thrones because the intrique, murders, fake Tsars, love stories, betrayals, drama, sacrifices etc.... it would be a massive hit no doubt.
Russia is such a vast and mysterious country with a fascinating, although bloody, history. I would love to visit someday. And Russian names are so beautiful and melodic!
I love the Story of Russia, I'm from Brasil and I fell in love for this country, I admire your leaders as well, like Stálin and Putin, and my favorite Czar is Peter the Great.
I just discovered your channel and I'm so glad. In the US we have been so propagandized to fear and suspect Russia and lately our most corrupt politicians are making it worse. Most Americans don't have any idea how hostile we've been since 1917 and how much damage we've done to ourselves by not befriending the Russian people. Thank you for the chance to watch Russian TV.
Although I don’t think Russia did anything in the Revolutionary War, they did help the Union Army to some extent (can’t remember exactly), during the Civil War.
My God, this is the best documentary series I’ve ever seen! The narration, the lack of bias, the graphics, the music and the actors do share some resemblance to the historical figures.
Agreed. I love how this series can state the positives and negatives without any filtering. So many other documentaries are biased and they lose all credibility.
This documentary has made me fall in love with Russia and the Russian culture. It's a shame what happened to the last Romanovs, thanks to the Bolsheviks. May God restore Russia to her former glory, amen.

I haven't seen anything from Russia that leads me to think that they will do anything great enough to rule the world, now or ever. Russian men like to drink vodka & lament about their lost greatness: if you want to see Russia rise to greatness, you'll have to look to the women of Russia.
I gotta say, that the cinematography, acting, staging and overall quality of this documentary is outstanding. It doesn't plod either, like most historical documentaries tend to do. It crisply goes forward from tsar to tsar, with all the relevant information about each reign presented quickly and well. Reminds me of an educated, historical "Game of Thrones." It's that entertaining.
The deep connection Russians have to their country, the physical country, language, culture and history has always astounded me. It seems...mystical but deeply genuine.
The English Monarchy before King George I was insane too. But I think Russia tops the list. The backstabbing, cunning, madness and sheer corruption makes for something better than a movie or show.
This is so interesting. I realize my ignorance as I watch and learn. I love the architecture of Russia but as I said, my schoolgirl education has left me ignorant. Thank you to all those who are responsible for this series.
Thank you Star Media for giving us this awesome documentary on the Romanov Dynasty! Make this my fifth to sixth time watching this documentary again! I absolutely love reading/watching anything to with The Romanov Dynasty.
This is a really interesting and informative series - visually attractive and clear and a very accessible introduction for people like me with only a very sketchy knowledge of Russian history - something we really need in the West.
The first Romanov Czar was amazing! I loved learning about him and a few tears fell from my eyes when I learned of his death. He's that kind of ruler and his life seems to be what you would only find in fairy tales. I admire him very much.
+J. Midnite Tzar or Car is slavic pronunciation of ''Caesar''. Bulgaria, Serbia and Russia had their Tsars in Middle Ages... After that period Russia continued its existence as Empire and with Tsar until 1917.
@@AliceAlice0006 Rasputin was a part of the problem with the influence he had over Alexandia , he caused her to make some bad decisions and pass them on to her husband but the real cause of the Romanov downfall was Alexi with his hemophilia
+Kenyan Bunnie watch on youtube the best project of such type "Epic history Russia" - much better in visual plan, more scientific and shorter than this program
the amount of detail and authenticity in this documentary is Unbelievable! i am very impressed it's a shame i wasnt able to finish watching this documentary before i visited Russia in 2017
I love history! My focus is usually England English history but my second love is Russia and Russian history and then Germany. I love the Victorian era - when all the royal families were actually German. One segment of my family is supposedly related to Kaiser Wilhelm. If so, that ties us to all of them from England to Germany to Russia. In any event - I am about 4 minutes into this documentary and I love it already!
Omg that is insane that my first love English history second Russian and third Germany, my favorite time period is Victorian England, TCM has great movies taking place then . And I love medieval history love war of the roses I'm on the Yorkist side if I had to choose
I'm watching this for the second time... such a well made, thorough, and well cast/costumed documentary. The English dubbing is very clear and concise; this is great for people learning to read (Cyrillic). Thank you! I'm so happy to be able to see such a thing as thing as this; the American "History Channel" is not very good.
Yeah, the Histroy Channel is absolute garbage now. I grew up with the histrory channel, here in America. It's nothing like it used to be, and it wasn't even very good before it turned into a reality TV channel. This is the kind of documentary I want to see.
vann tedd That was very well said. Growing up the only thing we were told about Russian History was 'communism and Stalin'. I was pleasantly surprised to find out how different the history of Russia actually was compared to the way it was taught to us in school. I now love reading and learning about Russian history, in particular the connection that Russia has with Orthodox Christianity, which I am proud to be a believer in.
Both the French and Russian Revolutions would never have happened if the monarchies of these two countries had changed from Autocratic monarchies to Constitutional monarchies on time- around the 16th centuries - like it happened in England. the monarchies would have survived like we have today in England, Scandinavia, Belgium and Holland.
Not necessarily, sadly the REAL truth of what caused the revolution is not going to be admitted. Rothschilds had a major interest to finance unrest in Russia at that time as Russia at that time despite all the troubles was an industrial giant and it was the country with highest oil production during the time of the unrest. So with it's massive industrial production, unlimited natural riches and resources, as well as biggest oil production Russia was going to govern the world and becomes a sole superpower in early 1920's.... Russian revolution and WW1 stopped that in it's tracks... there is a money trail going from Rotscheilds through its jew connections to bolesheviks and communist revolution of 1917.... it is all there. What is more.... if you follow the situation closely you will find that the same "people" are trying to isolate and stop the development of Russia today... via artificial wars and so called "sanctions" which really have no effect, but do slow down thinngs.
Awesome documentary!! Now I know the origins of the Romanovs. Thanks for the upload!! Keep up the good work and please make more videos in English or in English subtitles. :)
(Puts on French accent) i know eh i have no quarrel with them but fuck you Americans eh (smokes cigarette) we French are so fabulous including the Corsicans and the old guard release the polish lancers on the Russian jäger oh look Bülcher is here fashionably late as usual send Delron with the young guard eh (OK I took a funny sentence into a full sentence with historical figures and regiments from the napoleonic era)
I have known Russia because of its amazing people communities and farmlands , rich culture, and beautiful fauna and architecture. Can't stop watching these videos, I now have a better understanding of its history, narrator ,is the best I've ever ever heard, he's kept my attention through all the videos . Great job
You look up Photos Prince Philip 1976 (at the pony's). The chap on the left looks just like a young Prince & my husband. You should see the personal photos we have. My children were kidnapped in the United States and Billions have been Stolen. Lives have been Stolen while the criminals and batshit crazy people live nice lives using the name and associated fraudulent identity of the VICTIM'S.
This is an excellent introduction to this part of Russian history. It definitely makes me interested to learn more about some of the people involved. I own an English-language translation of the Domostroi, because of my interest in domestic matters, and find that as with all historical matters, pick up a thread and you wind up being connected to everything. Thank you for keeping my new interest going!
I am a descendant of this family. Thank you for doing this documentary. Any of you may feel free to contact me, if you would like to know how we are getting along outside of the tabloids.
Orïon Lynx. The legend always said when a second Michael became tsar, the dynasty would fall. Tsar Nicholas II abdicated to his younger brother Michael in 1912. Michael was Tsar for less than a day before he also abdicated out of fear for his life. They killed him anyway and Lenin took control
@@Annasea666 Sadly, their fate was sealed prior to Nickolas' abdication. The revolution had been brewing long before that. Many say Michael was murdered, that he didn't abdicate. I'm inclined to believe that knowing how ruthless Lenin was.
Dear, I really enjoyed the documentary The Romanovs. The History of the Russian Dynasty. However I am Brazilian and my native language is Portuguese. Please, I would be very grateful if you would put the CC (subtitles) in Portuguese, I am very enthusiastic about Russian history and I want to delve into the beautiful work that you produce.
It's a very interesting, informative history of Russia. I watched all the 8 episode. I like the the voice of translator. It's very clear to understand. Thank you very much.
The killing of the child rival for the throne seems pretty brutal, but then what would have happened should Michael have allowed the boy to live? He would have been a threat to the stability of the kingdom, which was bad for everyone. This is a good example of the moral ambiguities of history and why we cannot judge historical figured by modern standards.
The Romanov Dynasty began in the "Ipatiev Monastery". The first czar Michael lived there. The Romanov Dynasty ended in the "Ipatiev house". Such a coincidence. Or the irony of fate

good news. В 2019 году вышел сериал "Рюриковичи". От того же режиссера, что и "Романовы" google translate: In 2019, the series "Rurikovich" was released. From the same director as the "Romanovs"
recommended: good review of Russian history with an eye for detail, good acting, nice use of supporting statistics, and just overall well done and interesting
First of all,I never went to college never graduated high school ,that having been said I too believe that this is interesting from the stand point that most people not only don't know their history but, maybe any history.Schools, would benefit from this, especially those studying Russian history. The only thing , not enough English subtitles not everyone knows Russian.Other than that yes I find it a good way to spend some hours.🤓
Do you know about the Rurikid dynasty? According to the Story of time years the founder of dynasty was Viking konung by name Rurik which East Slavic tribes have invited on board in 862 AD from Scandinavia (most likely from territory of modern Sweden). He came together with his two brothers and a small retinue. Most likely with him also arrived and volunteer settlers from Scandinavia. Vikings settled in the territory of modern northwestern Russia. Rurik turned the Slavic settlement into a fortified fortress, making it his capital. It is not known what the Vikings themselves called it, but the Slavs called it Novgorod (literal translation - new city).
When I clicked on the video I originally thought it would be about Black Widow from the Marvel Universe because I didn't properly read the title and I feel like such a philistine right now. Great documentary though!
I am from India and I love Russia very much by birth. I would like to thank the creators for providing such detailed and systematic information about the history of Russia here. Now I want to watch its other episodes also.
Very interesting documentary. What makes it great is me not knowing much about Russian history. I usually don't watch documentaries with many ads but made exception for this
Kudos to Star Media!!! I have seen all Episodes, they are both beautiful and fascinating, BRAVO! I would love to see your other Documentary on pre-Romanov Russia. Are there plans for an English narration for that series?
Jim Randell All documentary projects you can see here: ruclips.net/channel/UCuSx-lf2ft7hPceGVNHybOwplaylists?shelf_id=8&view=50&sort=dd But they only with English subtitles. In the future, when video on English will appear, we will necessarily upload them on the channel.

This is the best documentary ever, 10 out of 10. I hope this time I won't get bored or lose interest.
I admire him very much.
thank you! you are very outstanding girl
vinllga And I thank you for your reply! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Did you even watch the documentary? He hanged an innocent 3 year old boy. There si no justification for that.
the boy shoun't have a claim to the throne
That doesnt justify killing him, he was a child no matter in what unfortunate position he was born into, gee
Tsar sounds better than "King".
+J. Midnite Tzar or Car is slavic pronunciation of ''Caesar''. Bulgaria, Serbia and Russia had their Tsars in Middle Ages... After that period Russia continued its existence as Empire and with Tsar until 1917.
It's a beautiful sound, I agree
+Moe Szyslak you forgot the z in Czar moe I pronounce it Tsar
Serbs and Bulgarians says ''Car''. English language use czar for easier pronunciation, but the point is same: Caesar= Tsar, Car, Czar...
Moe Szyslak oh interesting thank you for responding
The Romanov dynasty was born at Ipatiev monastery and finished in Ipatiev house... Coincidence ? I don't think so
Pika Lola Legend has it that Marina Mniscezh actually cursed them that their royal house would begin in Ipatiev and would end there too
@@turnip8749 and else Rasputin predicted the end of the Royal family. Some people think that it was his curse
@@AliceAlice0006 Rasputin was a part of the problem with the influence he had over Alexandia , he caused her to make some bad decisions and pass them on to her husband but the real cause of the Romanov downfall was Alexi with his hemophilia
@@MrTarmonbarry no it goes way deeper than that , it all started 10 years before Rasputin
The Romanov dynasty began with the murder of a child and ended with the murder of a child by bolsheviks. Another strange coincidence.
Anyone know more programs like this one? I freaking enjoyed watching this series so much, I am rewatching it for the 4th time.

I would like this documentary In french please !
+StarMediaEN thank you🌻
the Royal Romanov dynasty began with Mikhail, who lived in IPATYEV monastery
And ended with the death of Romanovs family in IPATYEV house
+Kenyan Bunnie watch on youtube the best project of such type "Epic history Russia" - much better in visual plan, more scientific and shorter than this program
the amount of detail and authenticity in this documentary is Unbelievable! i am very impressed
it's a shame i wasnt able to finish watching this documentary before i visited Russia in 2017
Great historical series, one of the more comphrehensive programs on the Romanov Dynasty. Thank you for this remarable series.
I watched this a few years ago and I loved it so much I'm back again. Not only full of interesting details, but also really well made.
One of the best documentaries about Romanov royal family I've seen.
You are like me am fond of English and Russian history
@@holbrook-ul9cf that makes 3 of us! 🤴👸
Omg that is insane that my first love English history second Russian and third Germany, my favorite time period is Victorian England, TCM has great movies taking place then . And I love medieval history love war of the roses I'm on the Yorkist side if I had to choose
Plantagenet
Not only an awesome documentary, the soundtrack is just as compelling!! History is our future!!
Giuseppe LoGiurato history channel should have docs like this. But all we got is duck fuckin dynasty
vann tedd That was very well said.
It literally takes a few hours to learn how to pronounce Cyrillic letters. I learned when I was 12. Try learning Russian, then feel proud.
vann tedd very true points.
@Zhenya Grébénuke ok

So true
Monarchy is always a failure. No wonder Revolution was needed
Awesome documentary!! Now I know the origins of the Romanovs. Thanks for the upload!! Keep up the good work and please make more videos in English or in English subtitles. :)
Dear SYNONYMOUS! Please, enjoy! ruclips.net/p/PLhuA9d7RIOdYZzODIcWsY2Rv7NqwkTmba
Simply mesmerised by the great history of Russia. Best wishes n love from #India.
I Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France approve of this fantastic documentary! I give it the highest medal of honor.
Your excellency, we humbly submit to your brilliance
I have known Russia because of its amazing people communities and farmlands , rich culture, and beautiful fauna and architecture. Can't stop watching these videos, I now have a better understanding of its history, narrator ,is the best I've ever ever heard, he's kept my attention through all the videos . Great job
This guy has a bloody good voice for narrating.
I swear that it sounds like John Hurt
Documentaries about Russia with such great production value have been missing for so long in English, i'm glad I found this! Thanks!

Three daughters and a son called Alexei. I didn't think Nicholas II was that obsessed with the idea of medieval muscovy and Tsar Mikhail
Being a Russian born American this Doc series is phenomenal
stunning documentary... expectional! One of the best things I've ever seen on RUclips.
Excellent series. Thank you for this. I hope you will leave it up a long time so we can watch it over and over again.
Romanovs didn't ended with Nicholas II. Yes, he was dead but his relatives were still alive and now Romanovs are still living in Europe and US...
monarchy seemed to work , time to revive it
You look up Photos Prince Philip 1976 (at the pony's). The chap on the left looks just like a young Prince & my husband. You should see the personal photos we have. My children were kidnapped in the United States and Billions have been Stolen. Lives have been Stolen while the criminals and batshit crazy people live nice lives using the name and associated fraudulent identity of the VICTIM'S.

love this series! watching it again for the third time and still as exciting to watch :)
Heather Sneddon I'm watching for the second time. Can't wait to get to Peter the great again.
Take your meds and shut up you imposter. LOL
Michael was a real man. Amazing documentary
Orïon Lynx. The legend always said when a second Michael became tsar, the dynasty would fall. Tsar Nicholas II abdicated to his younger brother Michael in 1912. Michael was Tsar for less than a day before he also abdicated out of fear for his life. They killed him anyway and Lenin took control
What's a real man? Violent control freak with delusion of power?
@@Annasea666 Sadly, their fate was sealed prior to Nickolas' abdication. The revolution had been brewing long
before that.

We don't learn about stuff like this in our history class😦 honestly a real pity
ReanaTS 26 I learned 99 % of what I know of history after graduating
It would be very hard to tell everyone's story, but I understand your argument.
In the Ottoman Empire, when the Sultan came to the throne, all his brothers were killed. Now it seems wild, but in those days it was normal
This is amazing! I wish this was available to purchase on DVD or blu ray. Excellent job

The Romanov Dynasty began in the "Ipatiev Monastery". The first czar Michael lived there.
The Romanov Dynasty ended in the "Ipatiev house".
Such a coincidence. Or the irony of fate

Thank you so much for posting this! I love Russian history, it's so fascinating :)
I was hoping that star media could please add English subtitles to the Rurick dynasty episodes
Words can not express how happy this makes me! :D
