  • Hey guys, in today’s video I will be making a new fireplace mantel. I will be ripping out the old fake fireplace mantel and installing a new solid hardwood beam and making a few modifications to improve the fireplace. Check out the video to see how this can be done.

    Poplar dowel plugs in that beautiful piece of oak? Cmon man. You were so close to having a cool mantle. Thats easy enough to change retroactively I guess. Consider going with a dowel plug made of something that contrasts sharply with the oak. I would go with walnut or a dark cherry. And Id drive the tapered or "whittled" end of the dowel into the hole. Leave them long, trim with that pull saw you have and sand flush before apply the finish.

    Doesn't that hurt the TV eventually to over heat? Probably going to get pretty warm up there.
