Nice job! I like the idea of filling in the gaps after staining. Best mantle vid I've seen.
Thanks! It wouldn't matter as much for a wood with clear grain but for oak, filling after staining made a big difference!
love the use of the french cleat, which in hind sight I would've done for mine. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
Thanks! French cleats have become my go to for hanging large or heavy things. Out of curiosity, how did you mount yours?
Nice work
Awesome. I still can't figure out why so many guys use all these screws. Am I the weird one with just my bottle of glue?
You're probably the smart one. I typically overbuild things, but it's likely not necessary
I was wondering if you passed the 320 paper after each of 6 coats of polyurethane. Thanks…great work!
Yep a light pass with 320 on the direction of the grain between coats. Just to knock down any air bubbles or dirt that gets in the coat. And thanks!
What is the material that is applied with a brush before painting and what is the purpose of application
What timestamp in the video?
Nice work! Would you ever build to order?
Unfortunately no. If you search etsy you can find similar beams for sale but do look around as the prices can be pretty different between sellers
Have the mitered edges opened up at all?
Nope! Glue them well and they shouldnt
