  • Fitting a PCIe RME MADI card inside your Mac Studio is not a very sensible idea. Don't listen to me, I have no idea what I am doing.

i am very impressed with the accuracy of the marking of the cutting speaker out of the mac studio. Who needs CNC!!

Put them on top of each other and you have the tower once again :)

Sonnet has made great things for the MAC for decades! I used their processors on my G4s as PCI cards etc, it’s sad to see u cutting the Mac Studio.

I don't get why we should create adapters from PCI-e to TB. Most of the audio interfaces are already USB-C/TB4. I think it's just time for PCI cards to leave

To replace my RME MADI PCIe (with wordclock) will be incredibly expensive compared to buying a chassis to house it. It also keeps using the classic PCIe drivers which are solid and reliable. The USB drivers are not stable, according to the experience of a couple of different studios I know. I'm very happy with my rig. Yes, this technology is definitely not the mainstream solution anymore, I agree with you, but I'm very happy I can still use my studio with my studio machine or laptop. I'm moving to a rack solution so it can be fixed with security bolts into the rack helping my insurance costs.

Hey man, does this work also without any power from wall? (The Sonnet unit itself with the RME card.) Using a MacBook Air M1 here.

The Sonnettech Chassis requires a Power supply. It does not draw much at all with the RME card inside.

I just used a cheap eGPU enclosure for my RME RayDAT when i finally moved to M1.... the egpu psu fan was so noisy I actually got an RME Digiface USB instead. How loud is the fan in the sonnet? Is it always on? Can you hear it? I still have my RayDAT but will likely stick with Digiface. Even though it's USB it's been just as good

Good to know regarding USB RME on M1. The fan is quieter than my old ProTower 5,1, but definitely is louder than the almost silent Mac Studio. Several people on the RME forum/FB commented that they have disconnected the fan with no problems. This makes sense as surely the sonnettech is designed with a range of cards and environments in mind. I’m going to unplug it during my next maintenance session. I will let you know. 👍
