Hi Doctor Nosa, great video on the process to register as a doctor in the UK. Communication skill is key in PLAB 2. Keep up the incredible content with your channel!
I love love this information 🎉! Thank you so much because this gives me an idea on what i’ll be doing after graduation...please do make a video about plab 1 and 2 preparations and tips ❤️
Informative video. PLAB is one of three ways international medical graduates may become doctors in the UK The costs I think have changed and will change again this year ID check I believe is free at the moment and for those who do PLAB 2, the ID check is performed on the day of their exam
Thanks so much. I graduated from barbados and I'm signing up for GMC now. The timing of this video was so perfect . Any advice on studying and resources for plab 1? Thank you
But to apply for F1 job must you score a minimum of 7.5 in each section of the ielts. Because that is one of the requirements for the eligibility for UKFPO registration.
Ugh you are so pretty! 😍😍❤🌻 Thank you for the video. It was certainly useful. I still do have a couple of questions- how long does one typically have to wait between PLAB 1 & 2? And when in the year does one register for the Foundation Programme? I would like to sign up for FY2.
Mary Joseph thank you so much! how long you wait is up to you after you get your Plab 1 results, I waited about 8 weeks I think for Plab 2 cause I wanted a break. Would personally advice a minimum of 1 month though but people have done sooner! You register for the foundation programme around summer of the year before you intend to start. So if you wanted to start this August, you should have applied last year.
Thanks for that! I have heard that starting with FY2 after doing an internship in a setting where you aren't actually handed a lot of responsibility can be overwhelmingly hard. I would honestly much rather start with FY1 after my internship at my college hospital. Do you think that if I do the PLAB and apply for a GMC registration DURING my internship abroad, I will be eligable for a provisional license and an FY1 registration?
@@DoctorNosaso would you have had to complete your PLAB 1 &2 and gotten your gmc registration a year prior to when you start your FY1? Because in a recent video you did you said you passed your PLABs in 2018 and started your FY training in 2018, so I was wondering how that’s possible if everything had to have been done and applied for, a year prior Thanks!
Hello Dr. Nosa, Thank you so much for this video. Could you talk about how you passed plab 1 and plab 2 and the resources to be used? Could you also talk about the route to becoming a GP?

Hi! Dr. Nosa, about the information regarding schools exempted from taking the English proficiency test (IELTS/OET). Where can I find that Please.. I graduated from the Philippines recently. I'd like to know if I can be exempted based on that because we were taught in English. I'd really look forward to ur reply on this. Thank you! Lovely video by the way
Estee Edward hello Estee, it says here to email them to find out if you’re exempt. Here’s the link www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/join-the-register/before-you-apply/evidence-of-your-knowledge-of-english/using-your-primary-medical-qualification
I would say that’s a good thing. Being on the ‘May accept’ list means it’s case by case basis. If your university isn’t on there then everyone that graduates from there should be eligible
Doctor Nosa yay!!!! Thanks for replying!!! I’m so excited !!! I’m at Univeristy of Guyana which is accredited by Caribbean examinations council but I want to move to the UK! Thanks a million
Thank you very much for providing such informative video. There is only one thing that I am not sure. Did you say that IMG docs need to have 12-month intern experience AFTER the medical school? So the intern experience before graduate doesn't count, right?
Rui ZHU hi Rui! IMG doctors don’t need to have any experience after medical school to work in the UK. What I said was if they do have more than 12 months experience AFTER medical school graduation then they cannot apply for the F1 route. F1 route is for those that have less than 12 months internship experience after medical school graduation. Hope that helps :)
Doctor Nosa Thank u so much for ur reply! So do u think it is difficult for IMG doctors to apply for an F1 job? it is said that it was difficult coz u need to compete with local students. Also, is there any other preparations required for applying, such as interview or SJT exams?
Hey Dr Nosa , I'd like to ask if we IMGs Going to Provisional Reg , are we supposed to do SJT and if yes , is it gonna be online or we have to fly to the Uk and thanks
hello doctora how r u doing, i was graduated from venezuela. i studied medicin in spanish and i do speak english as well. you think i may have an oppurtunity to try it over there in the uk
Hello Doctor Nosa. Thank you for this video. Please I need a bit of clarification with application for the FY1 program. I'm looking to enrole for the 2021 FY1 program please what can I do now to get that? How do i go about the eligibility process? I will really be happy to get a response as soon as possible from you. Thank you.
Reeka_Onyii Vlog hello reeka! You’re welcome 😀. To enrol for the 2021 FY1 programme, you need to apply this summer, all the information you need is here www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2019/11/UKFP-2020-Eligibility-Applicant-Guidance__0.pdf You need to register on the oriel website. I can’t answer specifically what you need to do for the eligibility process cause it depends on what uni you graduated from etc but essentially page 6 of the link I provided tells you all you need to do.
@@DoctorNosa I graduated from Ebonyi State university in Nigeria. I have gone through the website. I wish I could find someone who studied in Nigeria and enrolled into the Foundation program. The eligibility process and how to go about it is not quite clear.
Hello, to clarify and know what exactly you’ll need I’ll like to ask if you’ve done your house job?? And are you currently living in the UK?? If you have, you do not need the foundation program. Also seeing that you graduated from Nigeria you’ll need to take IELTS have not less than 7.0 in each block (reading, writhing, listening and speaking) and a total of 7.5 overall then take the plab 1 and 2 and apply for a full registration IF you’ve done your house job already. The process/criteria for applying for the foundation program is: - Register and open an oriel account first - You most be a graduate who hasn’t done internship at all. - You’ll need IELTS, and for the foundation year you have to have 7.5 in each block - you’ll need to fill the form and have your dean sign it - you need to take a test called the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) - if you graduated more than a year prior to your application you’ll take a clinical assessment exam -Take plab 1 and 2 -Be eligible to live and work in the UK by the time your program is starting. I’m assuming you’re in the UK however, This last criteria is usually the most challenging for people who aren’t British or EU citizens and/or didn’t study in the UK. You’re told that British and EU citizens or those who studied in the UK are given space/preference before you and you’ll only be selected IF there is extra space after considering them first. I do not know of anyone who wasn’t British or EU, or married to someone that gives them the ability to live and work in the UK that got into the Foundation program (But I’m optimistic that it could be possible). As someone who has done both, I’ll advise you to do your house job if you can and if haven’t, take your IELTS and plabs if you haven’t and just apply and get full registration. It’s a lot easier and more straight forward. Hope this helps 🤗
Thanks for the video! In your case, did you take a year off between St. George's and starting your FY1 or did you sign up for an internship at St. George's during the year that you mentioned you hadn't finished 12 months of hospital work at the time of your GMC registration?
Please doc, what type of visa would someone be applying for if the person has to come for FYI and how will one apply for Fy1 . Can you post a link on that .. thanks a lot doc...
doctor with 3 years exp in India, now studying for plab 1 and for 2 eventually, and resistration eventually, how to get nhs job prior to apply final visa before coming to uk and which visa would be needed that time ?
NHS jobs is the website for jobs in the NHS and they sort out your visa etc. If you’re thinking private, NES healthcare . co.uk is the company I know of that sorts out jobs within private hospitals in the U.K, they also sort out the visa etc
Padma Naidu hello! Depends on what level you are but the route is FY1 >FY2 (if you’ve done internship in your country, you start at FY2), IMT1>IMT2>IMT3 (IMT is internal medicine training), Then ST3 dermatology which is when dermatology training officially begins. You apply in FY2 for IMT training and during IMT training, you apply for ST3 dermatology.

I am passed my medical school in 2011 and had my Internal residency training in the Philippines and graduated last 2017, but I am interested to work in the UK. which pathway would be suitable for me? thank you
Hi Dr Nosa, I’m from Ethiopia and my medical degree is not listed on the acceptable overseas qualification. So this means I can’t work as a doctor in the UK?
Pengfei L hello! Pengfei, yes I did! I applied for FY1 September 2017 to start August 2018 ( you need to apply the year prior to you start date). I took PLAB1 November 2017 and PLAB 2 in March 2018. Hope that helps! Xx

I'd like to know if I can be exempted based on that because we were taught in English. I'd really look forward to ur reply on this. Thank you! Lovely video by the way
Estee Edward hello Estee, it says here to email them to find out if you’re exempt. Here’s the link www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/join-the-register/before-you-apply/evidence-of-your-knowledge-of-english/using-your-primary-medical-qualification
Thank you so much Dr. Nosa
Hi Dr Nosa! Thank you very muach for this video. I have one question. Is USMLE accepted in UK instead of PLAB? Or Plab is only required?
You’re very welcome! USMLE is not accepted in the U.K, only PLAB
@@DoctorNosa thank you very much!
i didn't see saint george's grenada on the list of" schools they may accept"..... is that good a good thing??? cuz mine isnt there either
Thanks a million
do I need to take the IELTS exam before PLAB 1?
Helpfull video..please the website of GMC
www.gmc-uk.org :)
Hello Murad! Yes if you’re going for provisional registration, you would have to take SJT. As far as I’m aware, SJT has to be taken in the U.K.
hello doctora how r u doing, i was graduated from venezuela. i studied medicin in spanish and i do speak english as well. you think i may have an oppurtunity to try it over there in the uk
I don’t see why not. Goodluck!
The process/criteria for applying for the foundation program is:
- Register and open an oriel account first
- You most be a graduate who hasn’t done internship at all.
- You’ll need IELTS, and for the foundation year you have to have 7.5 in each block
- you’ll need to fill the form and have your dean sign it
- you need to take a test called the Situational Judgement Test (SJT)
- if you graduated more than a year prior to your application you’ll take a clinical assessment exam
-Take plab 1 and 2
-Be eligible to live and work in the UK by the time your program is starting.
Hi Doc, love your channel. can one take PLAB1 and 2 in the same year?
Thanks! Yea you can
Thanks for the video! In your case, did you take a year off between St. George's and starting your FY1 or did you sign up for an internship at St. George's during the year that you mentioned you hadn't finished 12 months of hospital work at the time of your GMC registration?
Sorry for the late response, I took time off to study for UK licensing exams.
Once you get your PLAB2 results how long does it take for one to then get posted to a hospital and start working as an F1 doc
Jacqualine Sibanda F1 starts August every year so you need to get Plab 2 done by March of the year you intend to start.
Please doc, what type of visa would someone be applying for if the person has to come for FYI and how will one apply for Fy1 . Can you post a link on that .. thanks a lot doc...
You apply for FY1 on the Oriel website.
Please can I write Plab 1 n 2 and work in the uk immediately after graduating medical school without internship first
If you have British citizenship or other appropriate visa.
doctor with 3 years exp in India,
now studying for plab 1 and for 2 eventually, and resistration eventually, how to get nhs job prior to apply final visa before coming to uk and which visa would be needed that time ?
NHS jobs is the website for jobs in the NHS and they sort out your visa etc. If you’re thinking private, NES healthcare . co.uk is the company I know of that sorts out jobs within private hospitals in the U.K, they also sort out the visa etc
Hey Dr Nosa. what is the requirement/pathway for an img to study dermatology as well as practice the same in the UK?
Padma Naidu hello! Depends on what level you are but the route is FY1 >FY2 (if you’ve done internship in your country, you start at FY2), IMT1>IMT2>IMT3 (IMT is internal medicine training), Then ST3 dermatology which is when dermatology training officially begins. You apply in FY2 for IMT training and during IMT training, you apply for ST3 dermatology.
Hi ,thanks for the video! can you share how you studied for plab 2? i also went to med school in the Caribbean is it like step 2 cs? and how did you find a job after passing? thank you!
Will be posting a video soon on this! Thanks x
@@DoctorNosa thank you!
Hi Dr. Nosa, thank you for a very insightful talk on how to apply to UK as an IMG. I was just wondering if you could shed more light in my queries. I am passed my medical school in 2011 and had my Internal residency training in the Philippines and graduated last 2017, but I am interested to work in the UK. which pathway would be suitable for me? thank you
Hiya! Internal residency? Is that internal medicine? Or 1 year internship?
Hi, I was graduated from Canada, do I still need to take the IELTS exam?
I don’t think you’ll need IELTS but double check on the website 😃
What does ‘Primary Medical Qualification’ means?
Your medical degree certificate
:)
Hi Dr Nosa, I’m from Ethiopia and my medical degree is not listed on the acceptable overseas qualification. So this means I can’t work as a doctor in the UK?
Contacting the GMC via email is the next best course of action xx
@@DoctorNosa thank you for replying 🙏🏽
Hello Dr. Nosa, did you have to take a year off after graduation to take the PLAB exam before starting your FY1 in the UK?
Pengfei L hello! Pengfei, yes I did! I applied for FY1 September 2017 to start August 2018 ( you need to apply the year prior to you start date). I took PLAB1 November 2017 and PLAB 2 in March 2018. Hope that helps! Xx
Hi Dr.Nosa. I hope my question won't sound repetitive. Does that mean that I don't need Plab 1 results in order for me to be eligible for application? Just trying to get clarity. Thanks in advance.
What documents are needed for application?
Doctor Nosa hello Dr Nosa! Did you have to do the SJT?!
Thank you doc, please like how much is an Fy1 paid currently and can it sustain a family of 4 moving into Uk. Thanks alot
It varies by rotation but on average £2000 a month. Xx
