      The Birds you don’t know anything and yet you wrote a comment based on ignorance, but that’s how ignorance people are, they talk and talk without doing some research first. I had second hand embarrassment reading your comment. I’m not going to correct you because I know that people like you like being ignorant.
      Read some history, do some research on DNI and educate yourself. Oh, and the Trastámara royal family (Catherine) were native Spaniards, they didn’t come from another country, you would know that if you weren’t ignorant. And gypsies is an ethnic group of people that came from another country and settled in Spain, but they don’t have much relationship with other Spaniards (they have their own guettos and own culture)
      Native American blood? Have you study history? Spaniards don’t have native American blood, they didn’t go to the Americas, they stayed in the country. The ones who went there centuries ago and married a Native American stayed there and had children (what it’s called “mestizo” or “half”)
      Ignorance is a bliss, but in your case, it only makes you dumb in from of people and those who read what you posted

Also, when Catherine grew up, her beauty faded, she did not remain beautiful until the end. And Catherine didn't even fight because she was pregnant. I don't mean to insult Catherine but it's true.

      Lucas Costa
      Are you from Great Britain by any chance? “Maybe possibly?” Sounds like “highly likely” with zero evidence, right? This has been quite popular lately, don’t you think?
      As to my comment - we were discussing emotional and physical abuse. “S RKH” responded and I quote: “... and, perhaps, physically abused” with regards to Mary and Elizabeth Tudors, daughters of Henry VIII. And I responded that according to contemporary laws physical abuse of nobility was prohibited.
      I didn’t spell it out in detail, however, both Mary and Elizabeth barely resided in their father’s household throughout Henry VIII’s life.
      Therefore, he did not have a chance to physically beat either one of them.
      When they were at court during his subsequent marriages - they were always there during court functions. And there was no evidence in letters or other documents Henry ever raised a hand at either one of his daughters at those functions. All ambassadors would definitely inform their monarchs about the fact if that actually occurred. Spanish, French and Venetian ambassadors offered quite a bit of detail about Henry’s court life and events in their letters, which were preserved and studied by historians.
      So, direct physical abuse of the daughters by their father can be safely ruled out.
      What is left of potential physical abuse is corporal punishment, tortures, imprisonment, etc, on Henry’s orders and conducted by others. And nothing like that has ever been reported with regards to Mary and Elizabeth during their father’s life.
      Therefore, we ruled out any possibility of physical abuse of Mary and Elizabeth by Henry VIII directly it’s by others on Henry’s orders.
      As to emotional abuse of both daughters - it is well evidenced in contemporary written artifacts.
      I hope now it is a bit more clear for you, my friend. We did talk “about that”.

    To make clear some misconceptions about Katherine's appearance. She had definitely red hair and blue eyes. Portraits of her depicted with a fair complexion at the time. It is plausible that she was in fact as she had English royal blood. Her great grandmother was Catherine of Lancaster after whom she was named. And her great-great grandmother was Philippa of Lancaster, granddaughters of Edward III of England. In fact she had more claims to the English throne than the Tudors. That's why she was chosen among other factors to marry Arthur, prince of Wales, to provide legitimacy and stabilize a country devastated by a civil war.

      @ayshazaheen3402 5 лет назад +153

      @@zwowwasmr the show is HIGHLY inaccurate lol. Catherine and Henry never exchanged letters prior to meeting. When she got married, Henry was around ten or eleven. They did get engaged later, but after Isabel's death, Catherine lost her status as a desirable and eligible bride so Henry broke off the engagement at the suggestion of his father sometime in 1506. Her father, Ferdinand, refused to take her back in Spain. No one would give her allowances nor willingly keep her at their royal court, she was in virtual poverty till her father announced her as the Spanish ambassador for Tudor royal court. After Henry VII died in 1509, Henry VIII said that his father's last wish was that he married Catherine. They married when Henry was almost eighteen and Catherine twenty-three.
      I sometimes feel like Henry lied about his father's last wish on his deathbed. He might've actually fallen in love with Catherine. She was beautiful, smart, strong, and kind. It wouldn't be a surprise.

    Henry was so desperate for a son to rule after him that he never realised that he had two amazing and powerful daughters who would rule the world after him. He didn't love any of his wives. Edit because I really see that many of you failed history at school.
    The were known as the catholics kings, Fernando II of Aragon and Idabel I of Castilla. Not any Spain reference yet. Then they conquisted Granada. And, with Navarra kingdom, Canarias and Melilla and some others it was like the first time that all this territory was under the same kings but each place had its own rules. That's why Isabel was queen of Castilla and consort of Aragon. It's very simple. Spain wasn't a thing. Next.

    • @milliway2010
      @milliway2010 4 года назад

      The series is an adaptation of historian and author Philippa Gregory's ; "The Constant Princess" from her Plantagenet & Tudor series of novels. Gregory writes historical fiction from the female participants viewpoint; quite well given there is so little on record concerning these women at the heart of this infamous period of English history. Also most of these events occurred when written records such as journal, diaries and personal letters would have been very dangerous to keep. StarZ has made TV series of two others; "The White Queen" and "The White Princess" and "The Other Boleyn Girl" was made into a movie with Scarlett Johansson. My fav is "The Lady of the Rivers" the story of Elizabeth's mother Jacquetta which along with "The Kingmaker's Daughter" (Anne Neville) and "The Red Queen" (Margaret Beaufort) were dovetailed into "The White Queen" series but are well worth a read or listen on their own. "The King's Curse" is excellent too.The entire set of novels are available on Audible too and the narrators are very, very good.

I mean even if she performs well, for me a native speaker it sounds ridiculous. How come they have chosen a spanish actress to portray the mother and not one for the main character?

Also her mother Isabel in the show looks nothing like the real Isabel either which was blonde, pale and blue eyed.

Spain didn't existed yet, not until Juana's son Charles (Catherine's nephew) inherited the Kingdoms of Castilla and Aragon uniting "Las Españas."
    Positive point: Spanish people speaking English noways have a very similar accent to the one presented in this series.

    • @janefelix3821
      @janefelix3821 4 года назад

      One note. Charles, Catherine's nephew did not inherit the Kingdom. His mother was so mentally ill that after the deaths of her mother and husband she broke down totally. Her husband was Phillip the Handsome, heir to the Holy Roman Empire, so her oldest son, became the heir. When it became obvious she could not rule or even function, her father, Ferdinand, took control of Castille, he was the King of Aragon, but under the marriage pact with Isabel he could co-monarch both Kingdoms. After that he essentially locked up his daughter, Joanna, and made her co-heir with her son, Charles, then age 7. When Ferdinand died in 1516, Charles was 16 so he ruled with his mother but within 2 years became the King outright, despite the fact that his mother was still alive and only died 3 years before he did. He also became Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire at age 19 when his grandfather, Maximilian died.

    This has got to be the worst, most inaccurate historical drama I have seen since The Tudors. Prince Henry was 10 years old when Katherine married Arthur. Hardly the age to write passionate love letters to a woman he had never met, much less sneak them thru diplomatic channels to Katherine. Ridiculous. Queen Isabella did not go around wearing armor, she terrified the Muslims without it. One city surrendered when they heard that Isabella was on her way. There was no Muslim attack on Katherine and the queen as they were on their way to put Katherine on the boat. Surely, someone at the time would have mentioned it. Also, Isabella had blonde hair. Prince Arthur was not as depicted. Despite the numerous allusions to Arthur being sickly, contemporary correspondence from the Hapsburg ambassador does not support this. He describes Arthur as very handsome, tall, healthy and intelligent. The Italian Ambassador noted that the prince was tall for his age and had a ‘singular beauty and grace’. Hardly the description of a sickly person with TB. And that was just the first 40 minutes, I didn't need to watch more.

      MyrnaMinkoff it does not need to be completly accurate. It is a TV show not a documentary. They took a real life story and made it into entertainment. These kind of shows are not supposed to give you a history lesson, but open you to a world you might have not been interested in before. They open your appetite for history, incouraging you to learn more. That is my view on it. I saw The Tudors when I was 14 I think, and that was the time that I fell in love with English history. I went on and learnd about the Normand conquest, the Plantagenets, 100 years war, War of the Roses, and the Henry VIII, The Stuarts and so on.

    Just a little historic explanation. It was not the Pope who stood against the annulment of Katherine and Henry's marriage. Yes, annulment, not divorce. It was her nephew Charles V, King of Spain and Holy Emperor, who considered it a humiliation for his aunt and for him. Besides, during the reign of Katherine's father and nephew, Spain and France were fighting each other for the control of Italy. Most popes supported France, so Charles, a devout Catholic, considered them his enemies and enemies of Spain. The marriage annulment was a good excuse to neutralize the Pope, so he sent his army to capture Rome. The city was sacked by Catholic soldiers and the Pope fled through a tunnel to Castel Sant Angelo protected by the Swiss Guards, most of whom were killed. Clement VII had to accept Charles' conditions, including the refusal to the marriage annulment

    Why is the mother of Catherine represented like a dark women? Catherine mother was Elizabeth of Castilla, and Elizabeth was blond with blue eyes. This is described in all historic books.

    • @SG-pu3rx
      @SG-pu3rx 4 года назад

      She is represented not as a woman of color but as a woman who were outside a lot contrary to the norm of noble women sitting in their castles all the time, doing what only Kings were doing in that time of Europe's history. So I prefer to interpret it as her getting tan due to all the time she had to spent in the sun while leading her soldiers in surprassing the rebellions. Of course she and Catalina's skin wouldn't be the same despite having most of their genes in common and Isabella being born with a fair skintone. But the hair thing gets in the way -_-

      Yes, great if you're creating your own fiction - by all means . But don't take a well-known chunk of history,
      tell the stories of actual historical characters, then inject such an incongruous thing. People believe this stuff.
      Catharine's parents spent their whole lives driving the Moors out of what is now Spain. While Moorish influence
      and learning remained, the Moors were Arabs, not sub-saharan blacks. Just glaring wokeness, why not give her
      a Chinese courtier - let everyone in.
