Lily-Rose's acting in this scene was excellent. She was ice cold, her stare was so belittling the whole time.

@@Daynightexplorer he actually wanted to invade france in real life and would use any cause to do so plus the fake assassin thing didn't really happen
S אV My guy Henry wanted to fulfill the English claim to the French throne. The ball and the assassin stuff is just for the movie.
This has funny timing popping up on my feed. I'm actually reading a historical account of Henty V and it makes very clear that conquest was Henry's goal from the very first minute. Like he went to incredible lengths to make the French look like the instigators and the ones operating in bad faith. Also he was determined to marry a French princess. Though it seemed like he didn't much care which one, but I think Katherine was the most convenient choice.
she wasn't in this movie long but my god her accent is flawless and she really does an amazing job
she is french
I mean...she's French, soo...
@Kry Kry I'm sure she had a dialect coach to make sure her accent was perfect but she's listened to her mom's accent her entire life so it mustn't be that difficult to emulate for 5 minutes of dialogue.
She's imitating her mother. Listen to Vanessa speak English.
She used a dialect coach. She says in an interview the French accent used is not a modern one so it didn't matter that she's french
Catherine was incredible. I was not expecting her to be so ice cold and shrewd. She made Henry look impulsive, juvenile and completely ignorant to his actions against his former morals.
Louise... while you are jumping on the Catherine bandwagon try to give Henry V some credit. After all he did mature into a man and a king and the fact that he allowed Catherine to speak to him in such a bold manner just proves that he respected her as a wife and queen and was grateful to her for helping him acknowledge his faults and shortcomings. Also, Catherine was right about him being the son of a usurper but in all fairness to his late father and predecessor Henry IV the king whose throne Henry IV usurped wasn't much of a king anyway.

Cordelia lee right!!!
She stole the whole film with minimum screen time. Her ”A ball? ... He sent you a ball” perfectly highlights the ridiculousness of it all.
ErgThisIsSoStupid can you explaint it for me, please? I didnt understood
Raquel Alves
1. Aside from the word of an advisor and the herald, there is no evidence the ball was sent by the French Dauphin. As a king shouldn’t Henry have made inquiries as to whether it really was from the Dauphin and whether his intentions were really to insult Henry?
2. As a king, is it wise to be riled up by someone taking cheap shots at you? Wounded pride over a ball is not a good enough reason to go to war which killed so many people. It shows how emotionally immature and easily manipulable king Henry is.
3. On a more meta level, I feel this scene also served to deflate some of the stature king Henry V enjoyed in the English historical imagination and in the plays of Shakespeare. He is not some perfect being, he is a young, inexperienced ruler, a mortal man just like the rest of us.
Yes! Thank you! Her delivery when she said “a ball?” That pause... that look... the cadence and the pursing of her mouth... stole the whole show! I was looking for someone to point that out!

Harry Paul true but we have no idea how similar situations this long ago really played out. Official documents and the like aren’t going to accurately reflect the social dynamics particularly with young people
Katherine was later brave enough to defy the Court and Parliament to marry the man she loved. And her older sister was the widow of the King Henry's father usurped. Perhaps not so much of a stretch that she might have spoken her mind to Henry.
@Harry Paul Yes that's pretty much it. The court and Parliament would have wanted her to be a widow forever but she married against their wishes. The Beaufort angle is interesting as he later allegedly romanced Margaret of Anjou. He must have had a thing for French queen consorts!
@Harry Paul Fair 😂
@Harry Paul Also in terms of the later doubts about whether Katherine and Owen were married I always assumed they were as he was imprisoned after her death on the basis of breaking the law about marrying the King's widow. That and the fact that their sons were treated as legitimate in their lifetime.

@@gee2541 why the fuck ? You don't need to put women in every movies. Especially a movie in the middle ages, Netflix is already rewriting history, no need to force it to it's maximum potential
@@gee2541 Because female characters were unnecessary for the most part. If you havent noticed, most of this 2 hour movie only revolved around King Henry V and a few of his close advisers, which at that time, were all men.
But I do get your point. The film is already historically inaccurate as it is, a few female characters wouldnt hurt aint it?
Same as in history. Behind closed doors many powerful men listened to their wives
Vee B. Women weren't a big part of public life. It's very realistic that women were not in those scenes
The way she said “a ball?”. Nailed it... you could practically feel Hal’s realization as to what had happened.
Where ?
3:25
This really should of been a miniseries or something
The potential missed! It would have been so great.
Maybe they could do a reboot with different actors
Her character was such an interesting one despite how little scenes she was in
“You yourself are the son of an usurpar!” SAVAGE!
He did kill her brother and just bash her father
Her Grandson became kind of a usurper aswell 😂
Her character and delivery was earth shaking and pace shattering! It seems her character was THE most intelligent of the monarchy and thus proves that suppressing women as rulers back then might've cost many of lives and many o countries because they might've been better rulers than men! Lily delivered this character masterfully especially when she bubbled the word "ball" in her mouth 3:24, she said it with utmost disgust without even a frown!! And when she looked him up and down in disappointment when she basically called him foolish and immature... she was BRILLIANT!!! His character HENRY was never the same after that!!! His epiphany emerged at 4:25, that changed his character and his rule forever!! She brought back HAL, who'd been lost to Henry!
So many people were killed over this ploy, even his own COUSIN...his best friend charged into war for him... but for what? The twist was AMAZING!!
Kings have no friends, only followers and foe...but Queens are more than friends, they are a King's ROCK! I'm sure she made a great queen!
Totally nailed it!
It’s also great because when the “France sent an Assassin” excuse is thrown out by Princess Catherine, King Henry is forced to resort to the very childish “Did you know of the Ball he sent to me??” At which point Catherine can only smirk at him, as if to say “You started a war over a ball? The ball wasn’t even from France”
Remember that this is fiction. They changed lots of things in this movie to have a better plot doesnt mean it actually happened.
only wished the filmmakers threw out the battle scene and gave more screen time to allow Hal to develop as a character, and also more time with the soon-to-be queen. Their main scene together felt too quick. Why would he believe her every word so quickly? Why accept her words 'i will not submit to you', so quickly? I'm glad she's a strong character but he was too quick to trust her.

Ella Clayton it's really not that deep, chill. Sure they worded stuff wrong and she doesn't have to quit modelling at the request of anyone, but it's still not that deep lol. I think she means Lily as a model is not that good of one because of her work, not just people thinking they know her personally lol, she works with Chanel sure but no one has an eye on her as "omg the next iconic model of the century nor the decade". However her acting is clearly good and could do so much better, just that
I've become a fan of her's from this scene alone. It was just one scene and the most important in the film. The actress playing the role had to deliver so much in such little time and she was perfect! "All monarchy is illegitimate" what a great burn!
this scene was brilliantly written and acted; i found that despite the fact had few female characters, but even with that the female characters like Henry's sister and Catherine are the voice of reason. in fact Phillipa's advice is like forshadowing which Henry doesnt truly consider is so close to home until it is too late. And the way Henry comes out towards Catherine seeking her out just for the fact that she was bluntly honest with him. Each female character in position of authority one way or another, Phillipa in her experience dealing with courtiers which ends up being true, Hooper who is a business woman and who Falstaff is indebted to, and Catherine in her knowledge of truth behind the war.
Oh an i loved that look of anguish he displayed at the very end to show you the tragedy in the ending. It feels more like a tragedy especially if you know history and what would happen to his son.
I caught all of that as well. Those men had their own kingdom behind their eyes
I pondered about the women after this movie. The fact that despite having no choice in whom to marry living in a man's world, they didn't give up but still chose to influence and stay strong with whatever cards they were dealt with showed much resilience and wisdom.
Timothée's acting throughout this movie is for best actor! Oscar come on.

This scene was fantastic. Lily-Rose did really well despite only featuring for a few minutes.
It’s puts the whole plot on its head. Has the audience doubting everything they’ve just seen. Very clever ending.
She has her mother's face and her father's eyes
Henry - “I will ask nothing of you but only to be true and clear. Always.”
Catherine - “Epstein didn’t commit suicide.”
lol, I was getting real tired of that, but this was a good one
@@Woodesies You're preaching to the choir.
If people need a dumb meme to pay some attention to this, fine.
Doesn't mean I wont get tired of a excessively repeated schtick, just as I got tired of Despacito after one listening.
@venty True. The noose did it.
3:23 Love love that scene
Right?!
The French in this scene made me log into Duolingo for the first time since high school I will learn every Romance language
chris Ez bruh same 😂😭😭
i'm french and tbh the fact they both talked french knowing they're both half french made me so happy
Her performance, the way she portrayed this character, everything, absolutely brilliant even Timothee chalamet such a good actor 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😩😍😍😍😍
When I first saw this scene, I was absolutely blown away by her acting, even if it was only in the last few minutes of the movie.
She must have had so much preparation time to perfect that French accent, because it is absolutely flawless, the way she pronounces and annunciates every little single detail of her words. What an amazing cast this movie had.
She grew up half in France as her mother is a French singer and model
2:57 - It legit seems like she is talking about her Father , It felt so real.
I mean she is. That's literally Johnny Depp
I wanna see them in a new Netflix romance movie
yeeeeaah...cant wait
No

It takes great screen presence to hold your own against oscar nominated performers. So I think Lily definitely has that x factor. She is only 20. I am sure with age she will be more polished. And if she has an ounce of the total talent of her parents she will have a great future.
Timothee Chalamet isn’t a powerhouse actor lmao
@@serenitybeats1677 he will be.
It's actually scary that's she's only 20 in this scene. She delivers lines and emotes like she's been acting for 50 yrs. She has IT.
That was such a captivating scene. Her expression when she said "A ball?" That was everything.
She’s simply stunning
She should of been in more of this movie🤷🏻♀️ , such a great actress like her Mother and has that look in her eyes like Johnny .
Yes and No , she is an excellent actress but they did well to only show her character when it was pertinent , any more could've felt convoluted and useless . It is a fragile balance to keep .
If there is a sequel , she will most definitely have way more screen time since onward she is the queen .
She was honest and true, like Sir Jon was always.
