Historians now say that it wasn’t madness Joanna had, but clinical depression. There is a Spanish series called Isabel that focuses on the reign of Isabella of Castile, Joanna and Catherine’s mother; in the third season of the show, it shows Joanna and her marriage to Philip and kind of portrays Joanna as possibly being bipolar. Don’t know what historians say about Joanna being bipolar, but it’s possible
@@jamiebarringer4019 Willful? Oh very much so. Mad? No. Just because she had a willful personality, it does not mean she was unstable. Willful, easily jealous, envied the women her husband spent time with.... Her husband, father, and son only made it worse.
I honestly think that Joanna of Castile could have been been a great queen if she didn't have co-monarchs or regents, or if her father or husband could have just let her reign, she could have been the greatest queen to this day, but sadly she was just remembered as Juana the Mad the crazy queen May she rest in peace
Beautiful video! Joanna was NOT mad, she was framed by her wicked father and husband who knew very well that she was sane. She didn't drag around Philip's corpse because she was crazy; she was trying to bury Philip in his ancestral home as he requested.
Joanna was such an interesting and tragic historical figure. I don’t believe she was “mad” as it was far more convenient for her father and husband to claim that she was incapable of rule in order to fulfill their own ambitions. In fact, I find it interesting that apparently Joanna was very intelligent and even quite revolutionary in that she was known to have been a religious questioner and that she reportedly expressed some more agnostic sentiments and that her mother did in fact take issue with-though not to this extent-but it was more so Isabella as a deeply religious woman being concerned and expressing her concern about her daughters soul and not any noted abusive behavior. I think it would’ve been interesting to see a Queen of Castile who wasn’t as much of a religious zealot as her parents and who maybe could’ve been more open to religious tolerance if she truly was more apathetic toward religion in contrast to her overly zealous parents who instigated the Spanish Inquisition and all of the subsequent horrors committed in its name.
I think she was mad at the end at least a little bit. Because how could she stay sane after how she was treated by her husband, father, mother and children.

Juana wasn't then "Queen of Spain", but Queen of Castille, while her father was King of Aragon, Naples and Sardinia. The first and only regnant Queen of Spain was Isabella II in the 19th Century.
That is because The Kingdom of Spain was not formed until her father's death in 1516. Its first ruler was Juana's son, Carlos or Carl as he half German and heir to the Holy Roman Empire. He became Emperor in 1519 upon his grandfather's, Maximilian's, death. It also why Henry VIII never had Catherine as her nephew Carl was one of the most powerful men in the world. That is why she had the longest life of Henry's six wives, died naturally at 50.
When her mother married her father both reigns united Juana was the Queen of Castille on 1504 and then Queen of Castille and Aragon in 1516. She was not only the Queen but she inherited all the New Spain or the New World in America. Her mother Isabella and Fernando financed Columbus and the discovery of the New World made them very rich and extremely powerful they owned half of the world.
@@commeunouragan I'm aware of that. It was just that she suffered from severe mental health issues and upon Ferdinand's death in 1516, those in power decided it was best if she co-ruled with her oldest son Carlos. Essentially they made Carlos the King and put Joanna to the side and at that point decided to create a united Spanish Kingdom which included their New World Colonies. Three years later in 1519 Carlos's paternal grandfather died, Maximilian, who was the Holy Roman Emperor and since Carlos's father had died, he became the Emperor so Spain was more than happy to have him in both roles, which would make Joanna even less important, as she was not a Hapsburg, the lineage for the Holy Roman Empire

@@commeunouragan I know that the Hapsburg did not have New World Riches at the time as the Germanic Kingdoms did not build up a navy. The first Germanic Kingdom that began a naval armament system was Germany (not Hapsburg) in the 1890s. Joanna did inherit her wealth and title from her parents, plus the fact that her brother and older sister died childless, thus she took the crown, she was initially 3rd in line. However, her parents wanted to cement a relationship with the Holy Roman Empire and thus had her marry the heir to that throne, making her oldest son heir to that Empire, and when her brother and older sister died, both childless, he also became heir to the newly formed Spanish Kingdom, along with their New World Empire.

She was betrayed by her husband, son and father. She might have been bipolar and her parading her dead husband around Spain for months might have been due to her mental illness.I also think she was very intelligent and that was dangerous for a woman in her time I believe she was tortured by her parents because she didn't buy the Catholic doctrine and that was the way they made people " believe" . She may have been isolated and punished as a child for her lack of interest in religion. This added to her feelings of alienation and anger. A very tragic and misunderstood figure. By the way.. it was widely known there was a great incidence of maddness in her maternal family' s side. That was used against her by her horrid father.
Its fictional historical show what do u expect them to do act the truth they need drama and fictional incidents to attract the viewers But still i love all the characters
That's how everyone justifies all these new shows that completely change the stories of actual historical figures. I am Spanish and I was pissed off how "The Spanish Princess" portrayed Juana and her relationship with Catalina. They had a good relationship and Juana would never have slept with Henry; first because she was very much in love with Philip and second because she was a devout Catholic (as was the entire Trastámara family). In addition, Juana called her last daughter Catherine of Austria after her sister. In this series, moreover, the actress who plays Catalina (Charlotte Hope) is not very expressive and has no character. She doesn't do Catalina a favor.
It’s really sad that the actress who played Joanna the Mad only had one episode in TSP. She rocked! Totally stole the show! 1x06 was the best episode in S1 because of her!
Hey very beautiful. She is my favorite queen. I wish there was a series about her and that this actress was in it. They made her character bad in the series. I'm very sad. The only character I liked in this series.

Joan was an advanced woman for her time; she wasn’t a fanatic catholic. Queen Isabel I of Spain has doubt to let Joan in the line of Succession; might be Maria or Catherine would be fitted better for her religious behavior. Always remember: Joan the mad but not so much.
Joanna's parents were such barbarians, idc what anyone says about "it was common back then" sounds like an excuse to justify/ignore the horrendous shit of the time

They should make a serial besed on her with the same actress. It will be beautiful
I agree!
Juana looks gorgeous, imagen finding a girl like her today 😍 all weird and dressed up
Well I have a new favorite queen.
❤️❤️
Its fictional historical show what do u expect them to do act the truth they need drama and fictional incidents to attract the viewers
But still i love all the characters
That's how everyone justifies all these new shows that completely change the stories of actual historical figures. Write a new story about fictional characters - but don't take a historical figure's life and completely re-write it. Most people don't know much about history, and will believe this stuff.
Juana wasn't mad at all. Plesse watch isabel the spanish serie, the broken crown and charles king emperor and you will know why juana was like that, she was protecting their childs and her husband abused her. The only person who treat well juana was her mother.
Joanna’s life was really sad 💔
Indeed! 💔
I really like your videos… they’re quite thoughtful and beautiful
Thank you very much! I really appreciate your words! ❤️
Omg guys, thank you for all of your comments ❤️

Hey guys! 💙
Almost a year ago I wrote there that we hit the 19k views on this video, now I have more than 100k. It's unbelievable. Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me! 💕
And don't forget: new The Spanish Princess videos are coming very soon ❤️
Is there an actual movie on Joanna of Castile ? Were can I watch it as it intrigues me .
According to my informations, there is one, called Mad Love from 2001. (I haven't seen it yet)
What episode is??
Mostly episode 6,but there are some scenes about her in episode 5 and 7
Wow
It's beautiful 🖤
Thank you very much 🥰💓💓
Is it Joanna or Jane? I thought Juana translated to Jane. Juana la Loca: Jane the Mad or Joanna the Mad? 🤔
@@PaulyWally30 I've seen it as Joanna :)
Well, as is the custom in Anglo-Saxon series, the character invented it, this Joanna has nothing to do with the true
And we all know that:)
juana is so interesting, and yes i agree that the spanish princess is very inaccurate, but a amazing show
What is this show called?
The Spanish Princess ❤️
We need this actress who plays Johanna and her swagger in America films
I don’t really believe anything from history cause everything can be fabricated but it was interesting watching these type of shows
Is she a good character or a bad one?
Actually many people hates her, but I do like her.
I believe there is no good or bad character, because everyone can love anyone ❤️
She's like us. No bad, or no good.
@@ilyis_7490 exactly! 💕
What is a song ?
See what I've become by Zack Hemsey
Fun fact apparently this is based on the novel by the same person who wrote the other Boleyn girl atleast that’s what I heard
Yes, Philippa Gregory wrote the books 😊
The Spaniards are such angry people and also great fighters.
I cringe every time they say Castiellll. It's Castile not Castiel.
Edit: see comments
@María M you are right. She pronounces it the best of them. I probably should of said 'they' instead of 'she'.
Can STARZ make an adaption of the C.W gortneir book “the last queen” with this actress PLEASE
She did become mad when she though men would try to oppose her.
I do not understand why many freedoms to change history
It was nice to see that one of the leading female actresses could act LOL Catherine could have been a cardboard replica
It’s really sad that the actress who played Joanna the Mad only had one episode in TSP. She rocked! Totally stole the show! 1x06 was the best episode in S1 because of her!
What show is this??
The Spanish Princess ❤️
Legit probably histories domestic abused victim ever
I prefer Irene Escolar as Juana .
Series title??
The Spanish Princess
Wait did they actually torture her as a child or was that just fiction for the show ?
Only fiction!
@@leilasedits not true.. by some accounts she was actually out under certain torments by her mother who believed her daughter was tainted
@@jackfitch8134 well, some sources say that some other say something different... We can't be sure about it.
@@jackfitch8134 that's part of the anti-Spanish propaganda/black legend. Isabel had probably slapped her but she never tortured her children.
Hey very beautiful. She is my favorite queen. I wish there was a series about her and that this actress was in it. They made her character bad in the series. I'm very sad. The only character I liked in this series.
Thank you very much! I agree, she was my favourite in season 1 too! 🤍
All I can say is that Philip and Henry were cruel husbands
Indeed! Joanna and Catherine deserved so much better than them!
2:06
And that's my sister
My name is Joana and i'm from Spain lol
Wow! 😂❤️
el flamenco de juana soy yo a las 5 de la mañana de fiesta en benidorm
Joan was an advanced woman for her time; she wasn’t a fanatic catholic. Queen Isabel I of Spain has doubt to let Joan in the line of Succession; might be Maria or Catherine would be fitted better for her religious behavior.
Always remember: Joan the mad but not so much.
Joanna's parents were such barbarians, idc what anyone says about "it was common back then" sounds like an excuse to justify/ignore the horrendous shit of the time
This is not true Juana loved Catalina a lot omg.
No wonder they call her Johanna the mad
Isabel never tortured her daugther. This show is based on liars
Yes, as I wrote it earlier! :)
🎩I’m here prince 👑 Lionel 29 philles World Series joe 👠💍🛳✌️
Pobre Juana l de Castilla apodada vulgarmente la loca permanecio prisionera mas de 40 años en Tordesillas por su padre y su propio hijo
Asco Asco Asco
Man these costumes are beautiful but I don't like her sister ugh it's not her sister fault what they mother did to her
She is great but Chatarina mord two beautiful sisters
feminazi propaganda
This is not feminazi, this is feminism. You should know what these words mean.
I don´t think so. This is accurate feminism. Look what they have done with Princess Urraca of Leon in a spanish series (El Cid)
: ruclips.net/video/Njfip3mHiX8/видео.html
Can you understand spanish ?? because what Princess Urraca tells is just inaccurate feminism , that´s mean : propaganda.
And we´re talking about Princess Urraca of Leon. The Dame of the Grail : ruclips.net/video/_4c1XjOVET8/видео.html&t
This is giving me a headache
Shameful depiction! Terrible and disgusting! Irene Escolar did better as Joanna in the Spanish series Isabel.
Well, this awful portrayal of Joanna in this show, finally made me sure that I'm never gonna watch The Spanish Princess, like ever!
You're not loosing anything 😅
@@leilasedits you mean, is it that bad?
@@altinaykor364 it has some good scenes and storylines. For example I absolutely loved Mary Tudor (she is my profile picture right now), and the way her relationship with Charles Brandon was represented. But yeah, apart of it, the series had a lot of bullshit, bad characters, and unlogical/weird things.
What show is this???
The Spanish Princess
