The Plantagenets will always be my favourite dynasty. But you've got to admit that despite the Tudor dynasty only lasting 118 years, it still brought so much to Monarchy and changed many historical aspects forever.
What they lacked in longevity they made up with influence
They built our nation , despite their many faults , they changed the country forever.
@@growingstrong1009 exactly! So in some ways I resent them because it wasn't within Henry's right to steal the crown, but the dynasty he created modernised our way of thinking and our way of living. Well... it took hundreds of years to get to the point of recognisable modernisation but this era was the first stepping stone out of a dark and conflicted age.
@@grac3om He was as rightful king as william the conqueror. He won the throne through Conquest, and moreover he married to Edward IV's eldest daughter Elizabeth of York (who should have been rightful monarch after death of her brothers)
There's no denying that even though the Tudor dynasty was built upon usurpation their splendour and magnificence is by far the most awe-inspiring.

She had to be to deal with the MIL from hell. Margaret thought she'd be able to rule through Henry. You can thank Elizabeth of York's dad for Henry relying on his mom once he beat Richard the 3rd. Edward the 4th forced him to go into exile with Jasper and also before going into exile he was taken from Margaret to be raised elsewhere to control her ambition. When he returned in 1485 she was the only one he could trust and who helped drum up supported by securing the marriage alliance for Elizabeth with her mother the dowager queen.

Had Arthur been king, Henry might have been part of the Catholic Church (working his way to potentially becoming the Pope). And, I think that because during his childhood he spent a lot of time with his grandmother who was quite devout.
England also wouldn't have had to suffer through Queen Mary's rule. There may not have been a squabble between Scotland and England since England would have never become Protestant. So much would have been changed

The Tudor dynasty, and the Plantagenet House it came from, is one of the few dynasties that I love to research, the others being the House of Trastamara (the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella) and the House of Romanov (but specifically Ekaterina II to the end of the line, Nikolai II)
In fact trastamara is Catherine of Aragon's last name is
Since lineage comes from the father's side only the Plantagenet are still in the Royal line as Henry VIII's mother, Elizabeth York came from that line. His sister, Margaret, was the great-grandmother of the fist Stuart King, James I, and James was the great-grandfather of the first Hanover King, George I. So their lines are the same, just with women. The Hanover line never really ended as Queen Victoria's son, Edward, who succeeded her had his father's name, Saxe-Comburg Goethe, and when WW1 broke out, the name was changed to Windsor. Prince Charles, heir to his mother, will take her name, Windsor, to keep the line.

Some fun facts I learned whilst researching my family's genealogy - Margaret Beaufort (mother of Henry VII) married Edmund Tudor a Welsh Nobleman descended from famous Welsh characters such as Owain Glyndwr, whose family eventually came down to a man named John Jones Maesygarnedd also known as the 'regicide' a member of the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War and a close comrade of Oliver Cromwell who married Catherine Cromwell (Oliver Cromwell's sister) he was later executed by Charles II when the Stuart king returned to England (perhaps fittingly as John was one of the judges who signed Charles I death warrant) however his children lived on down to my great grandfather who was a pacifist during WWII and then down to my father and then me. I found it fascinating and I encourage others to research their family history too, you really never know what you might find.

*This is the greatest tribute video on Tudor dynasty as per my knowledge.*
While the actual Tudor dynasty ended in 1603, Queen Elizabeth II is a direct descendant of the first Tudor King, Henry VII. Back then rulers took their father's name for the Royal line, and thus even if Mary I had children, the Tudor dynasty would have ended as her children would have started the Hapsburg dynasty despite being direct descendants of a Tudor Monarch. So the changes of names, Tudor-Stuart-Hanover-Saxe Comburg Gotha-Windsor were not due to new lines but the first three due to rulers receiving their Reign via females and thus they took their fathers' names even though their father's were not Kings of England and the last due to anti-German sentiment during the First World War.

All of them were strong women. And they deserve respect.

Catherine of Aragon was the real Queen. Not only she managed the household of Henry to perfection, she also won him a battle when she was appointed Queen Reagent. She was the only real Queen Henry needed to be a king.
Catherine of Aragon didn't even fight. She dressed up, gave a speech, and then rode off to a different town while the battle was happening.

It could have been more of Sarah Bolger from the Tudors or at least that actress from Elizabeth. Mary I was not a sexy or romantic character indeed, but she still was a Tudor, and Bolger did a great job as for me. Anyway well done
