The irony is that both of his daughters came to be the most famous queens of England for very different reasons.
Boa Gaming They had a very happy marriage that was described as unusually good by people at the time. And also Henry didn’t have to marry Catherine to keep the Spanish alliance at the time. He was offered the option of Princess Eleanor but he turned it down for Catherine. Their marriage was nothing like some Anne’s fans claim of only a respect-love marriage to justify what Henry and Anne did (tho I still don’t see how this claim would have made their actions any less bad). It was really Catherine who got all the best of Henry. Unlike all the other wives, she got the incredibly handsome and generous Henry who was widely popular throughout England.
@@anyili3196 They were probably happy at the beginning, but then again Henry has always had multiple affairs with different women though out the years and many illegitimate children. He had an affair with Mary, then her sister, Anne Boleyn which the affair was through a long period of time. For most of their marriage, Henry tried to divorce Catherine. Lets keep in mind, they were married but she was locked away, even forbidden from seeing her own daughter. Then after the divorce, she was still caged and died a slow painful death from cancer all alone. If he did truly ever love her, she would have never suffered so much, if he did ever love her, he could've treated their daughter way before. For people wondering, Catherine was really Henry’s first love. He was only 18 when he became king and met her very early in his life. They’re were married for 20+ years and after not being able to give him a son, their relationship faded and when Anne Boleyn came into his life he decided to end his marriage with Catherine. He still had great respect for her after their relationship (which is why she didn’t die poor and in awful conditions).
Um… gotta burst your bubble but he did put her in awful conditions. He refused to let Catherine see their daughter for years and even on her deathbed. Mary was also barred from attending her funeral. I could go into a lot more…
Don't use the information gained from this video as totally historically accurate. It doesn't seem any more true to history than The Tudor series did. Henry wasn't even a teenager when he met Catherine. She was 16 when Arthur died and Henry was 11.
I started the show cause of this edit during the pandemic! Seriously one of my favorite edits ever and I frequently come back to it! Catherine’s story is so tragic...what I would give to sit down with that woman over dinner and hear her story from her own mouth.
I loved it, the video is just perfect, I love this series and the story Catherine of Aragon is beautiful, a pity that in fact he did what he did to her, this woman was amazing and deserved more, much more.
Katherine Queen of England ; RIP ❤️❤️ She was considered one of the women most intelligent and prepared to be Queen of her time. She spoke several languages and her education was based on Erasmus. Other Royal women of her time as the same level were Margaritha of Borgoña ( sister of Felipe the Fare) Luisa de Saboya ( mother of King Francis I of France) and her daughter Margaritha Valois
Ok. Grandes mujeres todas ellas.😍
@Valiant Woman It was more than one actually. One was article about her possibly suffering from eating disorder which also discuss how pope told her to not overdo it with fasting(was the real cause why i started to look into the subject, I wanted to look for evidence against it actually) and several times I found mention of her fasting, when somebody described her piety and how much she prayed and such... And I admit not all of those sources are 100% credible, many are translations of spanish reports...and I don't speak spanish and especially not 16th century spanish. I am amatuer I admit that... So between reports of her religious habist there was: Fasting 2 days a week...which might not seem as much, until you realise christians fast also 40 days before christmas and before easter...so I believe it was 161 days in total(i am not sure if holy days-Such saint Martin's day would be fasting days too...) Then of course by logic of pope being written to about her fasting, you have to come to conclusion that she was really overdoing it above period norm for somebody be that concerned to write to pope...if it was normal, nobody would write to him. And I found several sources about her pregnancies, patterns of it, rumoured ones, and looked up what can eating disorder cause to woman and her pregnancies... And to be honest, when I first read article about her possibly suffering from eating disorder...I thought to myself-that is nonsense, after all she grew fat as she aged...but I looked more closely, started digging deeper...and I found so many clues pointing to her fasting being the real cause of her dead babies (and of her not so saintly character...) But to be honest, I am really bad with remembering the sources...because i look Tudors up so much...there is tons of informations on them and sometimes you don't really look for information on that said person and suddenly it pops out. (Plus there is like tons of really wrong informations out there...like nobody bothers to look up battle of Flodden, except few enthusists into historical battles...) And I had some sources(but really not many) on my computer and it broke and I didn't get to have the data yet moved to my new computer, because my new computer has tiniest of the memory space...
@Valiant Woman I have nothing against catholics in modern sense, but in past kind of yeah. Inquisition and burning people... I have to say generally I dislike being presented with just one viewpoint of history, because that is very rarely full story of events. And trying to insist on ,fancy version' is never good. People should learn from history, from all perspectives or they might be believing lie. I admit that probably 99% of people won't believe me. That is their choice and right. Mine is to point out that I think they're wrong.
@Valiant Woman It is hard for me to believe catholics because I know Thomas Moore(who was proclaimed saint) had ordered people to be burned to death. But I realise that doesn't mean all catholics were bad, nor that all protestants were good. I find it horrible that everybody talks about fanatics ways of Mary I, but doesn't talk about reign of her younger brother Edward VI who was equally as fanatical-just into protestantism. (Like really, despite his age he had his say in what was going on, it wasn't all his uncles...) He was zealot too! So I think that both protestants and catholics have tendency to present story/narrative that fits them. Or at least had in the past.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh this is such LOVELY editing(pun intended). I was so torn up while watching this series since we all know how this couple ends. I keep screaming inside like noooooooooo Catherine NOOOOOOOOOOOOO he is not what you think. The ending of season 1 got me like DAMED! But this vid got me, sweet and bitter, and then sorrow. When you truly believe they were in love with each other sincerely for once, it makes the tragic ending even more tragic.
Probably not. Jane Seymour didn’t live long enough for him to tire of her, although he did threaten her that she would go the way of his other wives if she kept up criticizing him for his handling of the Pilgrimage of Grace (you know, slaughtering catholic men, women and children in the north because they dared to march against his policies). I suspect Philippa Gregory is an incurable romantic. As she had Anne Neville state in one of her books about Richard III, ‘You are my heart, even if you’re a broken heart.’
and then henry said “i’m a catholic i cannot divorce any of my wives so when i don’t want them anymore i’ll accuse them of shit and then move on the next HAHAHA”
Actually he can't divorce Catherine because SHE'S a princess and favored by the Vatican,it doesn't matter what Henry's religion is that's why he made the "church of England"
I just think the crown ruined him. I wanna really think his younger version was nice and kind and that he truly loved Catherine cause he was still naïve. Then the need of power ruined him and every definition of love with him
The obsession of having a male heir ruined their marriage. All the sons she bore him either ended in miscarriages or died within days. Plus I believe an instance of injury caused him to obsess about having a boy and some experts thought that the first injury he suffered during his marriage to Catherine might cause him some sort of 'imbalance' mentally or perhaps he was just constantly in pain...
They honestly had a beautiful marriage and a really strong bond and this shows more of the depth of their love. Henry fought so hard to be with Katherine and she had to be oh so patient. Rhis is one of the reasons why the nation was shaken when their divorce took place.
Maybe series shows interesting portrayal of Catherine, but the historical princess wasn't too more brave and cheeky. At the beginning of her story in England she did everything by etiquette.
No male heir 👑 and most of the pregnancies miscarriage....he got a mistress Ann that change political and religion history for ever. But basically... he became a pig!! In the show the story line is not correct but nevertheless, entertaining. In the real story. When arrived, he was a kid, but he did felt in love with her. (5 years difference more or less).
@@margaritab381 if you want a more accurate depiction of them at that stage, the Spanish Series 'Isabel' portrays this as a side story. Henry is a cute kid who endears Katherine from the get go.
@@margaritab381 He was always a pig, he didn't become one, he was always one. He was sleeping around long before he met Anne. He was prepared to raise his bastard son with Elizabeth Blount over Mary as heir to the throne. When he sought a divorce he was denied because Catalina's nephew interferred with the Pope on his aunt's behalf, but as for the divorce - he felt was his right to do as England was never successfully ruled by a woman [not until his own daughter, Elizabeth] and he felt that England would have crumbled under Mary's rule. He found another way, because the Catholic faith does not approve of divorce.
@@dh4158 When the Pope wouldn't grant him the divorce he created the church of england based off the lutherian faith. there are still people to this day that calls anne his mistress because they, as catholics, do not recogonize his move to divorce katherine as legal

Jeez...can anybody in the comment section simply appreciate this couple in the show without having to compare it to the actual historical truth? The show itself claimed that the facts have been and will be altered because this is just a fiction! C’mon
Although I am always critical of these inaccurate shows, I will always say that Katherine had the best of Henry of any of his other wives. Because of his youth he was less jaded and felt better physically. I tend to believe that he loved her, or at least had great respect for her; he knew that she was adored by the people. It's also when they both were the most compatible and beautiful. They at least could've had a taller and more athletic actor for Henry's role, that was part of his appeal; and Katherine was quite short. Anyway, I hope that this music is not of the sort in the show; because it's not authentic I could never tolerate it. I can't help it; I'm a purist.
It’s sad because we know how tragic their love story ends. I remember reading how Henry had a serious jousting accident and was never the same afterwards; doctors say that it’s possible Henry had some kind of personality switch after suffering a concussion. I’m not defending Henry by any means, but it is something to consider.
I heard about that too. They speculated on that, his change in demeanor was due to his injury sustained during jousting. Sadly, we can't confirm or deny that theory.
This is a real good music video Edit but I’m surprised it got 2 million. I’ve never seen any ship music video get that many. It’s deserved I’m just surprised.
The queen & king have similar spirits, both strong & determined to get what they want, whether it be each other; or loyalty to country. I very much want to play a queen written into 1 of the "Spanish Princess" story lines. I was made for it. 👑⚔🛡🏹💘
They were made for each other, the problem was they were both very strong personalities. They both thought they were always right. Henry was cold but so was she and yet they were in love until the day she died. Henry never really stopped loving her but she was to much for him. She was ahead of her time, nowadays we would worship a woman like her. But back in the day she made him look weak, thats why he had to let her go and killed anne boleyn. Its said really, always having to be the image of your father while you have a good hard. It distroyed henry and he became the most horrible men ever. So he did what every men does, he shut down. He did love, he just had to be stone cold. And in the end, he became heartless.
Who is here in 2020 and season two came out (they haven’t divorced yet) and it always says at the end that it’s factionalized so they might have a chance in the show

Actually during the marriage he fathered henry fitzroy with Bessie Blount'
Um… gotta burst your bubble but he did put her in awful conditions. He refused to let Catherine see their daughter for years and even on her deathbed. Mary was also barred from attending her funeral. I could go into a lot more…
I count this as studying history lol so excuse me professor I'm not chilling I'm studying
Por lo que sé, está muy apartado de la realidad. Mala fuente de información, no es un documental.
Don't use the information gained from this video as totally historically accurate. It doesn't seem any more true to history than The Tudor series did.
Henry wasn't even a teenager when he met Catherine. She was 16 when Arthur died and Henry was 11.
@@anisblue Era un chiste jaja

I started the show cause of this edit during the pandemic! Seriously one of my favorite edits ever and I frequently come back to it!
Catherine’s story is so tragic...what I would give to sit down with that woman over dinner and hear her story from her own mouth.
I love this! My favourite Catherine and Henry vid atm. Irishman Ruairí O'Connor is my only crush right now. His kisses look so sensual..
I loved it, the video is just perfect, I love this series and the story Catherine of Aragon is beautiful, a pity that in fact he did what he did to her, this woman was amazing and deserved more, much more.
Katherine Queen of England ; RIP ❤️❤️
She was considered one of the women most intelligent and prepared to be Queen of her time. She spoke several languages and her education was based on Erasmus.
Other Royal women of her time as the same level were
Margaritha of Borgoña ( sister of Felipe the Fare)
Luisa de Saboya ( mother of King Francis I of France) and her daughter Margaritha Valois
very true
Ok.
Grandes mujeres todas ellas.😍
There are hints of the proud, fickle, and selfish man Henry would become in the show. Catherine was warned.
And none about Katherine's fanatic fasting that in reality killed all but one of their children...
So between reports of her religious habist there was:
Fasting 2 days a week...which might not seem as much, until you realise christians fast also 40 days before christmas and before easter...so I believe it was 161 days in total(i am not sure if holy days-Such saint Martin's day would be fasting days too...)
Then of course by logic of pope being written to about her fasting, you have to come to conclusion that she was really overdoing it above period norm for somebody be that concerned to write to pope...if it was normal, nobody would write to him.
And I found several sources about her pregnancies, patterns of it, rumoured ones, and looked up what can eating disorder cause to woman and her pregnancies...
And to be honest, when I first read article about her possibly suffering from eating disorder...I thought to myself-that is nonsense, after all she grew fat as she aged...but I looked more closely, started digging deeper...and I found so many clues pointing to her fasting being the real cause of her dead babies (and of her not so saintly character...)
But to be honest, I am really bad with remembering the sources...because i look Tudors up so much...there is tons of informations on them and sometimes you don't really look for information on that said person and suddenly it pops out.
(Plus there is like tons of really wrong informations out there...like nobody bothers to look up battle of Flodden, except few enthusists into historical battles...)
And I had some sources(but really not many) on my computer and it broke and I didn't get to have the data yet moved to my new computer, because my new computer has tiniest of the memory space...
@@janehaylay1152 i had one of my friend's mother fasting the whole month of Ramadan while pregnant and still gave birth to a healthy baby boy and he's now 10 years old do your research about fasting before going around spamming people in every comment about something you ignore
I loved them, despite the angst at times, the actors did an awesome job to depict their story.
i watched this whole season in one day with no breaks. i LOVED this show so much. i ship them so hard too 😭 and henry was super cute in the series!! i can’t wait for part 2 except the fact that he grows apart from her and becomes mean ughhhhhh 😭😭
i ship a lot they too haha ,I love henry in the series too basically fell in love hahaha .Looking forward to the second season, too bad it will be the last.
seriously these two actors needs a fantasy royal show, with different story and ending! They are super cute together!
A love story in the past just hits different
I kept on wondering, why does she look so familiar? And then it clicked. Didn't she play Myranda in GOT?
Oni who else had a light bulb go off when reading this😭
Yes, she is
Yes!
Lol lol yeap
Yep she's the one.
Why do ppl like to pretend that they loved each other? Did this dude ever love any of his wives?
He loved Jane Seymour
Probably not. Jane Seymour didn’t live long enough for him to tire of her, although he did threaten her that she would go the way of his other wives if she kept up criticizing him for his handling of the Pilgrimage of Grace (you know, slaughtering catholic men, women and children in the north because they dared to march against his policies).
I suspect Philippa Gregory is an incurable romantic. As she had Anne Neville state in one of her books about Richard III, ‘You are my heart, even if you’re a broken heart.’
Love was second to him. Having a son came first. He disposed of wife after wife to see it done.
@@joss-v2k "You are my heart, even if you're a broken heart." Lmao

I extremely love this pairing 🤧 their chemistry is something unexpectedly beautiful and precious 💞 ur video showed this so fckin good!
"Your mine Catherine." ughhhhhhhh that got me
I just think the crown ruined him.

This is so hauntingly beautiful 😍
They honestly had a beautiful marriage and a really strong bond and this shows more of the depth of their love. Henry fought so hard to be with Katherine and she had to be oh so patient. Rhis is one of the reasons why the nation was shaken when their divorce took place.
I personally do not like the acting in the series but at least this is the actual real physical portrayal of Catherine of Aragon.
Maybe series shows interesting portrayal of Catherine, but the historical princess wasn't too more brave and cheeky. At the beginning of her story in England she did everything by etiquette.
@@МарияЦуверкалова-ш5г brave she was, but yes, she did things like it was expected

It isn't. In fact her hair is supposed to be strawberry blond not auburn. They choose auburn based on portraits with discolored varnish.

Tabi M. What was the other way instead of divorce?
@@dh4158
When the Pope wouldn't grant him the divorce he created the church of england based off the lutherian faith. there are still people to this day that calls anne his mistress because they, as catholics, do not recogonize his move to divorce katherine as legal
What a gorgeous video for an amazing show
Henry did a lot of things to Impress Catherine and they learn to loved each other.

The White Queen, The white princess then the Spanish princess.
Finally! A sympathetic portrayal of Catherine instead of the old shrew she is typically shown as in Henry and Anne stories. And yes Henry did love her. Catherine of Aragon is one of the most tragic figures in history

I really feel bad for Catherine of Aragon and Queen Mary
Fillet O Shit Bloody Mary? I don’t think so.
What happened to marry?
Hazel Sidra She murdered a bunch of people then died.
Fillet O Shit I mean what I remember of Mary’s life was that her father denounced her faith and killed its followers, she fell in love with Phillip and married him, got pregnant, had a miscarriage that meant Phillip left her and never returned, she was heartbroken. Then she had a phantom pregnancy, where she had the symptoms but it went well past 9 months, and died. There’s good evidence to suggest it was some kind of uterine cancer. Mary went through plenty tragedy
Katie Rasburn She had a horrible childhood, but she is called “Bloody Mary” for good reason.
This is amazing!

Jeez...can anybody in the comment section simply appreciate this couple in the show without having to compare it to the actual historical truth? The show itself claimed that the facts have been and will be altered because this is just a fiction! C’mon
Exactly!! ❤
Exactly what I wanted to say. This is just a series based on a story, not a documentary.
Love queen Catherine she will always be englands truth queen and wife to king Henry even tho he didn't deserve her love it breaks my heart ❤😍👑
I can't help it; I'm a purist.

same🤣
It’s sad because we know how tragic their love story ends.
GORGEOUS.

Spanish Empire!!!

I'm fed up with these "Reign" styled licenses. The Duke of York and future king Henry VIII was a 10 year old when Catherine arrived in Britain.
Her fate reminds me of the fate of her older sister, Isabel, who was married to Portuguese heir, and loved him, them he died, she wanted to never marry again, but eventually married her late husband's uncle, new Portuguese king. That story was in Isabel tv series I think
She was actually married to his sick and alling brother whom died then she married henry whom couldnt give her a son to bear only a daughter so he exiled her to solitude where she refused to divorce him and dies still married to henry while he ran around with young women chopping there heads off when he wasnt pleased. So beautiful
Haley khoun this is so accurate I’m actually mad 🤧 what an absolute pig and the nerve of him to think a woman couldn’t rule as a lone monarch which made him greedy for sons until his own daughter Elizabeth became the kind of monarch that he’d imagined in his sons and not her
She died 3 years after the divorce. Divorced in 1533, died 1536
catherine was a strong woman, beautiful and inteligent, she was practically raised to be queen of england, and she truly loved henry and henry loved her dearly, that;s why when henry wanted to divorce catherine, she was devastaded and shocked,i read some where that she recordly cried and fell to her knees when henry left her room after announncing the end to their 24 year marrige.
Question is this based on the actual story or did they tweak it a bit?
Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of Henry VIII in their 20+ years of marriage.
It’s based of a book called the constant princess it’s pretty accirate
