Tip from mycology: modify the lids of the PP deli containers with a 1/4" hole then cover with 3M micropore tape before sterilising them to create a sterile ventilation port. This will help with condensation in your jars.
I have several rare/endangered plants I need to propogate . My greenhouse is empty and I want to fill it with clones. That being said your very helpful and this knowledge is invaluable.
I get so excited for the new videos on your channel ❤ always fun content, so super informative. I appreciate your approach and how you discuss the science behind each step. Random RUclips stranger is thankful for you 😂
I would love an “up close” view of your dissection! A usb microscope with a screen would be stellar as long as it doesn’t clutter your flow hood and can record your work!
I grow amorphophalluses. I have only 20 species and hybrids. I searched so far for a protocol for them and couldn’t find anything. I’ve been binging your videos. All I can say is thank you so much for this video. I’m going to give it a shot with my shattered glass. And my titan hybrids. And if you’re ever looking for new species to try I’d be happy to send one!
I wonder if you ever plan on doing cultures of freshwater aquarium plants, they are high value plants especially the rare ones. Also, aquatic mosses would be interesting to do tissue culture on.
I've been collecting corps flowers for the past 4 years now. I have bulbifer, vulgaris, paeoniifolius, and konjac. Vulgaris is the only one that's been blooming every year. The other one's just keep getting bigger and bigger (vegetatively) every year and have pupped across their beds, but no flowers from them. I'm looking forward to purchasing Titan Arum next, hopefully I can get it from you when it's available on your shop? Also, can you see about TCing the rarer/endgangered plants in the wild like spiritus sancti or even peyote? I think they're also interesting enough that you wouldn't have a problem selling them either. Thank you so much to you and your channel for lifting the veil and sharing these techniques.
I'm starting to think I need to try tissue culture for the first time using my first try at Sunrise Bumblebee tomato plant. I think I might bring in a cutting as well and leave under 24hr LED cool white I'm thinking, though I've not grown in so long I need to double check optimal cost effective light color range in the blue.
I would love if you could talk about how to get rid of plant viruses though tissue culture. I know that it is possible but I´m not sure how exactly it is done. I´m interested to know if it would be possible to get rid of the cactus x virus
Good suggestion! I believe that when Pelargonium was first being virus indexed they would be placed in growth chambers where the plants could be pushed into super fast growth. The idea being that the fast apical growth would outpace the advancement of the virused tissue, and that tip could then be excised for TC. It maybe had to be done more than once? I'm sketchy on the details
Going back to my chemistry days and working under a flow hood, my professor always told us to close the hood as much as possible and to work looking through the window with only the arms through the opening as it made the hood "more efficient" not sure if that's true, just what he used to tell us?!
Hi Laur, your question got me thinking than I thought about the question: Can coral plants be tissue-cultured, even exposed to air? I've heard it's possible! Now, I'm curious if we can mix plants somehow during tissue culture to make hybrids? I am 181cm... do I win? 😛😝😄 🙂🤯😉
I don't grow cannabis anymore, although I have in the past, so I ask this mostly out of curiosity. Cannabis plants typically flower in the fall, or indoors, when light is reduced to less than 12 hours a day, but there are "auto-flower" plants that flower based on their age with no regard to the hours of light they receive. Those plants cannot be cloned by taking cuttings because the cuttings will be the same age as the mother plant, so they don't have enough time to root before they begin to flower. So I wonder, would cloning such plants using tissue culture avoid this issue?
I’m really wanting to tissue culture Nepenthes …. I really need to know what is the easiest plant to start with …. I just ordered the book you recommended then I’ll start ordering stuff
Not sure of the significance of tissue culture vs cuttings but there is a bloke in SA Australia that has successfully grown cuttings from an A.Titanum all the way through to flowering. So definitely possibly
@@plantsinjars definitely worth a try. If it’s the same guy, he has over 100 successful cuttings, generally using healthy “leaf and stem” tissue along with rooting hormone to promote a bulb to form. Either way a very cool process to try out!
It's parasitic living entirely within another plant extracting nutrition from its host. Only emerging at flowering time. I have no idea about its tissue culture.
I really didn’t know tc was a thing until finding your channel a couple off hours ago. I’m kind of confused about why this is like a thing? Why not plant seeds or use a clipping? I know it’s good for house plants and tropical plants but I see people talking about vegetables and other plants. Idk I’m a bit confused about what the benefits are to tc. And where it is mostly used these days. Like could you tc a type of beneficial fungi that could create a healthy soil? I feel very dumb I’m a product design student this is a whole different world.😅
Hey just started following .. great videos … do you take orders ?? I have a nursery down in florida. Would love to send some plants to be cultured … Lmk thx
Im really curious about the Deli plastic you are using. I can see they are autoclavable. Can you point me in the right direction of where to get them? Thanks
It must have recycle symbol ♻️ with a 5 inside and PP written below. PP is Polypropylene. Microwave safe is the keyword to look for. Food grade alone isn't sufficient.
It may seem boring but what about grasses like Karl Forrester or Purple flame(not fountain) grass that have sterile seeds and slow to grow and divide. For someone that wants to plant 20' drift a grass this could be quite valuable.
Lol, it takes between 3 and 6 months to do a nodal tissue culture to raising the plant sterile to culture from. It takes longer if the plant has a virus. If it has a virus and you must go from meristem it can take 6 months to a year. Some plants and some viruses it is better off throwing the plant away and destroying it because of the risk, even cleaning it of the viroid coming back at a future date and reinfecting the rest of your plants. Testing should be done on the plant before the tissue culture process even starts. To remediate HLVd for example can take a year , sometimes more with even constant testing after the plant is cultured clean to make sure it does not come back. This process cost at least 8000 normally and more sometimes.
Thanks, I really appreciate your contributions. However, your “chopped” delivery leaves something to be desired, just a suggestion, consult both (a) a voice coach, and (b) a public speaking coach. You deserve to be more widely heard/seen, I think improving your delivery could help.
My parents at 25: lets start a family
Me at 25: let’s genetically clone a very stinky plant
Laur is one really bad breakup away from becoming a real life Batman villain.
Hold my beer!
Smart and pretty, should make some clones of you

I grow orchids from seeds with in-vitro culture. I tryed tissue culture but it's way more challenging. You have such patience and dedication ❤

Bootleg science is still science. You are experimenting. Good work 👏 keep up the real good work you do.
I am so keen to see the progress on this in the future

New plants in jars video just dropped 🎉
🎉🎉🎉 Another Upload, So excited.
Amorphophallus titanum is goals.
Wow this is very exciting, this is the type of backyard science I love to see!!! MORE!
Quality content
LOVE this!
Bootleg science is the best science and you can’t change my mind 💅🏻

It's nice to listen to you and watch you, I wish you further development of this channel you're the best RUclipsr
So glad you decided to try this!!
Please post updates 🙏
Yeah those bacticinerators are a game changer. I used to use a propane torch for my glove box and it was so sketchy.

Would love to see if this could work on some endangered cycads.
i just found your channel and its amazing love it! im going to do some cactus experiments this winter

I guess maybe blue after roots, if not using right at first. Though tomatoes should root super simple easy.
Neato. I wonder if the rapid growth in the potted version is due to the reduced daylight hours, or if it just had a regular "growth spurt"? Cheers!

Incredibly interesting! But where is the follow up video?
I make updates on social media

Where do you get these cups? I can't find one likes this.
it worked? i have amorphophallus titanum, i would like to test it with them
Would you try tissue culturing a Tree Fern? I've heard that to be impossible.
How long does it take from the second you put it into a jar to become able to be potted ?? Thx
What about the other corpse flower, Rafflesia arnoldii? Has it been tissue cultured?
It's parasitic living entirely within another plant extracting nutrition from its host. Only emerging at flowering time.
I have no idea about its tissue culture.
How much "thanks" must I give to see this done on a cycad? 😊

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can do potato tissue culture pls
👊😎great video!

But can you tissue culture a large cactus?
yup
I am still super curious how you get banned from ebay lol.
Buying something sketchy probably
Hi, after 10 months can you tell tell us how did it work? Thanks
I have an update in the video I'm posting next! I actually just repeated the same experiment with a different media formulation
@@plantsinjars Thanks. I am be really interested to watch it.
Can it be done in cacti?
yes
Great 👍
I challenge you to tissue culture the North American Pawpaw, Asimina Triloba.
Great ❤❤❤❤❤
Gotta respect the bootleg science. F* around and find out. If you remember to document everything, then it's science.

3:29 did you dad also pass, why he doesn’t text anymore?
Can you clone dishhhhhnuttzzzz?
Would you culture plant for me . I could send you the mother plant. N compensate for your efforts.

Mother nature would not approve, this practice is unnatural.
You are messaging with nature
can't stop won't stop
5'10 you still a shorty.
Would this work on Leyland cypress trees
Hey Laur, too bad Hans didn't clone himself.
