As depicted on the cover, I have always related this song to the raising of my children and now grandchildren, and the steady and gentle task it is to prep this fertile ground.
Inch by inch, row by row, Gonna make this garden grow. Gonna mulch it deep and low, Gonna make it fertile ground. Inch by inch, row by row, Please bless these seeds I sow. Please keep them safe below 'Til the rain comes tumbling down. Pullin' weeds and pickin' stones, We are made of dreams and bones Need spot to call my own Cause the time is close at hand. Grain for grain, sun and rain I'll find my way in nature's chain Tune my body and my brain To the music of the land. [Chorus] Plant your rows straight and long, Season them with a prayer and song Mother earth will keep you strong If you give her love and care. Old crow watching from a tree Has his hungry eyes on me In my garden I'm as free As that feathered thief up there.
Joan Baez is still here, and hopefully will be for many years. She has so much in common with Pete as a person and musician. She just wrote and sings a nice little song about Trump called Nasty Man.
@ I'm not sure all of us understand this song presented by Arlo Guthrie the way he meant it to be understood. He was arguing against sameness all over the world. We each have our own particular culture. We should not change it to be uniform. You can't solve problems kilometer by kilometer. We have to solve our problems the way we started them: inch by inch. That young 20-year-old Canadian in the story failed to understand our history: the uniqueness of each culture.

that's the tomato song now. 🍅🎵🎶
Hello fellow tomato
What a peaceful song during these times.
Inch by inch, row by row,
Gonna make this garden grow.
Gonna mulch it deep and low,
Gonna make it fertile ground.
Inch by inch, row by row,
Please bless these seeds I sow.
Please keep them safe below
'Til the rain comes tumbling down.
Pullin' weeds and pickin' stones,
We are made of dreams and bones
Need spot to call my own
Cause the time is close at hand.
Grain for grain, sun and rain
I'll find my way in nature's chain
Tune my body and my brain
To the music of the land.
[Chorus]
Plant your rows straight and long,
Season them with a prayer and song
Mother earth will keep you strong
If you give her love and care.
Old crow watching from a tree
Has his hungry eyes on me
In my garden I'm as free
As that feathered thief up there.
Lyrical changes? If David is OK with them, so am I.
Truly an orginal. The old ones are leaving us.

I'm shure, if we carry them in our hearts and minds, their spirits are with us.
Great Loss to the world.
Pete took the God out of Daves song. He has a strictly Humanist interpretation.
I'm sure the song can work either way.
