- What do you do two weeks after buying a brand new Honda CB1000R?
Take it on the Green Hell of the Nürburgring of course!!
This wasn’t supposed to be the fastest lap ever it a speed test of the CB1000R. It was more of a chance to experience the Green Hell in it’s entirety. Mostly because I was conscious of not smashing up my new toy! Plus you have to pay for damages, recovery and stoppages if you have an accident! No thanks!! I was also receiving constant cornering commentary from our team Nordschleife expert Matt, on the MT-10 in front. Thanks Matt!
A lap on the Nordschleife will run you about 30€ and is legally classed as a part of the German Autobahn. So no overtaking on the right allowed!
This was a great deal of fun and I'll certainly be back to do it all a little bit quicker!
Many thanks to Patreon Supporters Mike & Matt for making this happen!

Clearly I missed the bit that said "you couldn't overtake the MT10"
Looked to me like a waste of your riding skills to me.
It wasn't so much about not being able to overtake, but he was giving us turn by turn commentary of the track over the intercom. It was supposed to be in the audio, but the Sena didn't record it. 🤦🏻♂️ In any case, I reckon that without him, the lap would have been a lot more erratic as I barrelled too fast into blind corner after blind corner!! Next time we'll put the hammer down for sure.
Fair shout Andy, other comments on this subject also explain the reasons why I may have thought negative about the lap.
Cheers
RGM.
It just looked dangerous to me you should have gone at your own pace
Would have packed up. When you see a Yaris overtake you 🤣 good on you for sticking together.
Hahaha! This was a case of leaving the ego at home so as to avoid certain death! (Or an expensive bill!). I was surprised when the Yaris went past us, but just had to tell myself that he obviously had top flight suspension and a 3 litre V8 shoehorned into it!! 😂
Excellent video. That rear facing camera gives a very good idea at how fast those 'Ring regulars are bearing down on you to improve their own "lap time". Your channel is rare in so much that you have documented your effort and development from a smaller, less powered machine to your current Honda, also whenever possible showed your "hands on" approach to dealing with mechanical/electrical issues on the way with an upbeat view. You also get massive points and respect for riding the 'Ring on your new bike, but the biggest slap on the back is for not being a Vlogger on a GS with three boxes and 100% road tyres ! Jesus you have no idea how refreshing that is. I hope more people come on board your channel and you have continued success. Lastly I don't know how difficult it would be for you to show in the info section what editing software you use, but it would be much appreciated if you could. Merry Christmas.
Many, many thanks indeed Frank! I'm very happy that the format is working for you mate. It'll be a long time before you see a GS on here! I use Davinci Resolve for my editing. It's a bit complicated to learn, but it's free and VERY good!
Pretty daunting having all those fast cars sharing the same track. Nice to see you kept your heads and formation knowing you didn’t know the track, chancing a surprise dip or sharp bend with a local lad in his Porsche behind you. Top job!
The guy in front knew the track! ;) (but was attempting to keep everybody together! :) )
Matt, that’s a good thing. Safer. That’s always been a debatable thing though, should the more experienced ride up front or at the rear? If he ran the rear he could have watched the back better and instructed the others about oncoming bends and the like and also alerting against traffic; the cons of running the rear is that the guy up front may feel pressured on holding the other guys up and so may ride beyond his skill level. As I said, not quite sure what’s best.
Very much so! I think that was the biggest fear mate. So many sudden bends after a dip or a crest, so I imagine it's easy to come unstuck pretty fast. Luckily Matt in front is on several thousand laps and kept us in check! Next time we'll give it some welly!
The speed those cars are coming in from behind looks frightening
It was quite astonishing! Although we weren't exactly hammering it, we also weren't hanging about! Yet those guys left us standing!
This is probably the best Nurburgring footage I've seen; impressive camera angles. Respect for taking your bike out there. I did that in a car, which was thrilling enough.
Cheers to you Andy 👍 That is “brass balls” getting out there with those cars, WOAH! Totally get the pace based on the guy ahead, not an easy task. Sure looks like the CB holds its own! Good for you mate! 😀
Thanks Eric! I was a little apprehensive, has to be said! But it was OK once out there. I think the experience on the german autobahn helps with not cacking one's pants as a porsche screams by at 250km/h!
Great vid. Never been to the circuit. Impressed on the respect everyone gave.
Got the Pilot 5s on my FZ1NA thanks to your earlier vid trialing them. Great tyres. Thanks for reviewing.
Thanks Paul! Yeah I think respect is important there. One person acting the idiot could really ruin a lot of people's days! Have fun on those tyres!
Fantastic video, the rawness of it makes it the best motorcycle video I’ve seen this year. Chapeau 👏
Many thanks John! You must be the only person who hasn't said I should have gone faster!! 😂
Hey mate, this looked awesome. I hope your mate Matt appreciates all the explaining you've done in the comments!!
Hey Gary! I think he does. He's a regular comment reader! Say Hi Matt. This is Gary, from back in the day (before we both had bikes!)
Another great video. We were there about 5 weeks ago, went to do the public session on the evening & it was cancelled. 50% was disappointment & 50% was relief!! After watching this it definitely makes me want to go back again! 👍😃
That is annoying! Though I have to say that the apprehension before was far worse than the fear once actually out there. It's easy to build these things up, but once it's happening, you just get on with it and have fun. That's the plan anyway! Better luck next time mate!
Looks a great experience, as an MT10 owner I was willing your mate to open it up but I guess you ride at your own pace.
Unfortunately for Matt (and very unselfishly) he was riding at the groups pace. I have no doubt that he could have left us all for dust at any moment. This wasn't his first time on the track!
@@AndyManCam 👍👍
I knew when you were replying to all my comments it meant a video was on its' way! I did unfortunately miss the premiere. Really like the sound of your bike especially when it picks up. Sounds like a spaceship. You know the kind, the type of space ship where the hero has to make a daring escape from a bunch of football hooligans so flies to a conveniently dense asteroid belt using his superior flying skill.
Haha! Am I THAT obvious! 😜 I know exactly what you mean! ALthough it is missing the balls out roar that the FZ1 had, I really like the different, tighter character of the CB's noise. Like a jet turbine, blasting forth into the future... or something.
Damn, the Green Hell has always been a dream of mine.
Despite the bloke on the MT-10 not pushing too hard, there were about 2 instances where he opened up the Yam and the acceleration of that beast looked amazing!
Still, doing 140 kph and having cars zipping by you with that speed looks a bit scary to me.
Love it!
Mine too! Glad to finally have braved it. Yeah that MT-10 really had some go when he opened up the taps! Considerably more instant grunt even than my shiny new CB!
Wow!, that was absolutely amazing. Thanks Andy for a brilliant video - it is certainly the closest I’ll ever get to going round the Nurburgring.
My pleasure Pete! Thanks for watching mate!
Love the congratulatory 'we didn't bin it' celebration at the end! :) well done!
Haha! Needed to be done! Nobody has spotted it for the loose Sega Megadrive Road Rash homage yet though! 😉
@@AndyManCam Road Rash! swinging the chains at the rozzers and other riders, I remember playing that! Now it has a whole new meaning. You're a funny guy :)
Haha! Thanks very much! Glad to have tickled you anew!
Andy, Good job, nice film man . Your mate in front held you back a tad!
Cheers Lee! I know that it may look like that, but he was also telling me what the next corner was and what to expect around the next blind crest. So if he hadn't held me back, the barriers would have likely held me up!
This was great. Not sure if its the camera angles or what but you get an awesome sence of the speed. Really enjoyable to watch.
Many thanks Jon. It's a combination of filters, settings and stabilisation software! Really happy to hear that it's working!
Read the description, so glad you learned the track a bit and picked up some tips from the expert.
So don't over-ride the bike or the track when you go solo. 👍
Thanks MrC. I shall do my very best to keep it within reason next time!
watched this a few times now Andy, fantastic vid, i have a cb1000r and the ring is on my bucket list Sadly i lost my brother to covid in February and i am promising myself to do all the things iv put off for one reason or another. Thanks mate...
I’m really very sorry to hear that Tony. Great attitude though. These things teach you that life is too short to wait.
WOWZERS.... The circuit terrifies me, not just because of the amount of corners to learn... but having such fast cars on at the same time would leave me a quivvering mess... well done Andy... I'd love to do it one day... but very much don't think I have the spuds for it! :D
TBH it was terrifying me before I went on! Not least because with only 2000km on a new bike, I had a fair bit to lose!! I can only recommend finding somebody who knows the track and following them around.
@@AndyManCam I'd def need a guide... i get lost on the way to my local shops haha
Nah! You’ve got considerably more track time under your belt than me mate. I’m sure you’d nail it. As long as you kept out of the way of those rocket porsches!
@@AndyManCam maybe, but tracktime with just bikes on them and rules saying it is up to the overtaker to get past safely haha... id be sitting bricks! 🤪
Hahah1 That's a very good point! Those rules do kind of give you a bit more peace of mind!
very good 👌 Andy the only complicated thing is that motorcycles and cars together ok
Yeah I guess it would be great if bikes could go it alone. But I think it's mostly cars that go there. So the golden rule prevails. He who has the gold, makes the rules!
Going slow on a track like this is the most dangerous thing you can do on a motorcycle, with the exception of going full throttle without leaning in a corner...
Going too fast is apparently far more dangerous, as we didn't die! How was your first time riding this track?
Love this video. You could be going half the speed and still have more fun than any exotic car out there
You are a braver man than me sir. Great video.
Cheers mate. It was actually worse before we started. After that, you just get on with it. Must be quicker next time though!
Great Vid. Can’t believe your mate rode the ring in a Knox jacket mine tore a hole in my elbow at 20kmph. A teabag gives you more protection
That's a real shame mate. Have you had a word with Knox about it? I'm sure they'd be keen to know the details. From my experience, they seem pretty keen to communicate with users of the gear.
Quality, 18 years since I did the ring and that was in a car. Must try and get back there one day on the bike 🏍💨. Another top video Andy thank you
Cheers mate! I think the sooner the better too! It's only going to get more busy and more expensive!
just awesome and a little bit scary , the rearview camera shots are great.
Thanks David! The lack of high mounted number plate really makes those rear shots look cool! I think I might forget the idea of getting a tail tidy, purely for that reason!
Great video Andy. Good to know you can hire someone to guide you through the twists and turns. I bet you can't wait to do a free run. Ride safe.
Oh Matt was there of his own free will! 😂 But it was incredibly helpful to have someone feeding info about the next couple of turns. I do very much look forward to another go, at a more brisk pace! See if I can even keep up!
Thanks for the clarification Andy. Looking forward to the follow on video.
No problem! I’m working on it as we speak. Some AMAZING roads coming up!
You‘re driving carefully. Nice video.
Today I‘ve ordered the CB 1000 R+
Better safe than sorry, especially with a new toy! Enjoy the new ride mate !
Definitely one for the bucket list mate, looks like you had an awesome time
Absolutely Peter! It was brilliant and I think I'd like to have another go sometime!
please another session, solo or with someone with your skills, loved the video
The video was a bit misleading as Matt is definitely above my skill level! (As will be shown in the coming videos as the trip continues) Plus he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Nordschleife. He was feeding us turn by turn info throughout, and with eery accuracy! He's already said that next time, there'll be no hanging about!
@@AndyManCam Well, your fault not explaining that 😋 but if Matt read all this comments, i'm sure he will give us a fun lap next vídeo, can't wait.
Haha! In my defense, I was expecting the intercom audio to be recorded by my Sena 10C EVO, but it didn't work. I did write in the description what was happening, but I know that not all platform make it easy to read that while watching. Trust me though, Matt is very riled up and ready to put some opinions to bed on the next lap!
Top Man! Hope you enjoyed it. Steer clear of the 'local heroes' and the ATGANI brigade (mostly from the UK) and it's a lot of fun! 👍👍👍
Cheers Scott! There was a fair bit of action on track. Very odd, but exciting experience!
Good Work Andy!!! Love watching you grow your channel. My favorites are from 1-2 years ago all your touring videos thru Austria, especially the mountain passes. I remember on other videos when you slipped on the road thru a turn (I think not too far south of Vienna on your way to Croatia), that was a cool ride. Especially the when you put your bike on the train and picked it up in Vienna. Your parents were just behind watching from behind on a lot of those bike adventures. One of my favorite videos is when you went up and down the coast of Croatia. I was watching every turn carefully and followed your path on google maps via "street view". I got hooked on your channel and touring videos. You helped me give birth to my MotoTouring World Wide channel. I'm not any where nearly as good as you, or as cool as you,,,,, but I'm still working on it. I'm jealous that you live in Germany. My family all live throughout Austria. I'm in Seattle WA. I'll be back soon after Covid. It would be a pleasure to meet up with you at the Beer garden In Salzburg just below the castle. Hope you are up for great gathering place and great conversation. Servuss, Tchuess, Aufwiedersehen. Bis Bald... Michael 🤙🏍🤙🏍🌍
Huge thanks Michael! Those were some great trips. I desperately want to get back down tho the Alps again as soon as possible. Looks like I may have missed my window for this year though. Maybe next year!
@@AndyManCam ,, good morning,,, good evening by you, I'm glad you found time to go through all your fan mail, LOL 😅🤙. I hope after Covid things get much better for you in Germany. I watch DW News out of Berlin here in Seattle and I'm shocked to see how things are getting worse with the coronavirus in Europe. My pleasure! Yeah it's certainly going back in the wrong direction over here at the moment. Who knows, maybe the rubbish weather will stop folks crowding in to the parks and cafes together! 😂 As long as we're back on track again by next season, then all good!
I'm actually no longer using Facebook I'm afraid. I might make a little video about it at some point in the dark cold winter. But it's youtube only for me right now. Trying to concentrate on the videos above all else, as I don't seem to be able to actually push them out there fast enough!!
@@AndyManCam I know the feeling of not finding time to piece together videos, I have an external hard drive piled with 15 classic motorcycles that I need to edit for the classic vintage uploads. I also have about two more touring videos along the Oregon coast. One of my videos through Canada took me 30 hours to edit. Back then I was learning and not good as you, however I think the best job I have done editing was my group ride up to the Olympic mountains Hurricane Ridge, you will actually see it as one of my latest uploads.. I learned from your video along the Croatian coastline and then when you got on the ferry boat. The way you edited certain roads and certain turns to make it more interesting is how I did my ride up in the Olympic mountains. Sorry you can't linger over on Facebook hopefully someday you can, well I know how super busy you are and probably have hundreds of fan messages to respond to, stay in touch and if you have a chance I hope you like my racing video (FASTER Booster Plug Pacific Raceways)..like what you did on the Nuremberg ring. I'm proud of the Olympic mountains motorcycle ride video which I use ferry boats too... Auf Wiedersehen,,, Servus,,, Tchüssss,, 🏍️👍🏍️👍🏍️👍🏍️
Tell me about it! I've got footage for about 10 videos just languishing on my hard drives! It's funny that only folks who have done this themselves really notice that the bends and curves are edited together in a certain way to increase the excitement and the 'normal' viewers just enjoy it! But I guess that's the way it is supposed to be! Like special effects in the movies that take hours to create but never even get really noticed for what they are!
Great video fantastic bike stay safe looking forward to next one 🇬🇧👍🏻
Many thanks Richard! I certainly shall do my best. You too mate.
You got so much patience I would have had to overtake nice one mate
Patience I can sometimes do. Especially with something that has such a reputation for killing the careless and impatient as the Nürburgring does!
It's nice you rode together, but there were corners where it felt like you were going to clip your mate in front.
He was braking and you could tell you were ready to accelerate.
Luckily I was paying attention eh! If I'd known the track even 20% as well as Matt does, maybe we could have had some exciting battling situations out of the corners. But as it was, I'm happy that I didn'T end up in a barrier!
Love these videos !!!
Thanks very much DsJ!
I was going to comment on the mt10 but I see it's all been covered. Looking forward to lap 2 😉
Lap 2 might take a while! But I'm sure it'll come.
Awesome, loved it. We will be back there soon, oh yes we will...........Great vid as always Andy. Shame we didn't get all the comms but it would have just been me blubbering I guess
Absolutely mate! And next time we'll show those pesky Porsches what for!!
I fell off my sofa twice watching that..... And I may have pooped a little. Kudos AMC
Haha! Sorry about that! Still, it means that it was exciting enough to do it! It certainly was a bit of a terrifying experience but TBH once it was happening, I just had to go with it and enjoy it!
You nailed it AMC, it looked awesome! As did I #couchfallx2
Magic. I hope you were wearing your protective gear! 🤣
Would love to know what drew you to sell your FZ1? About to look at one this weekend... have you done a video on it?
I loved the FZ1, but just found something newer that did everything a little bit better, while also looking cool! I didn't make a video on why I sold it, but there is a video on my thoughts after 18 months of ownership of the FZ1: ruclips.net/video/Tls_mXJX1no/видео.html
You were definitely much more "Gung Ho" then your mate in front.
Should have had a faster leading man, but I understand the Ring can be very impressive.
You never get a good feel for the height difference while watching a video, it's what makes this track so special to drive.
By the way, I live 10 minutes from the Ring and drive there now and then, lucky me :-)
Very lucky indeed! The height fluctuations are crazy! We were mostly just trying to keep the small group together, without getting in the way of the faster regulars. Next time it'll be quicker!
Cool. I want a go. Some restraint not passing ya mate.
Cheers Dom. It was all about the team spirit! Plus he knew far better when the sometimes nasty corners were coming up and in which direction!
Awesome, did the same thing on a brand new CBR1000RR a few years back, much easier riding the ring on a sports tourer with the Sat nav running mind 😜
I know right! It must help if the roads are on the satnav, so you can see where the bends are going, before you get there. I don’t have a video game style HUD, but that would be the next best thing! Why didn’t i think of that!?
Ahhh to be there again.. we went after trecking in torrential rain for 2 days from Austria.. got there by 7pm to a touring car event just ending so got a walk through the paddock. Think we'd already talked ourselves out of doing it though 'in case of' an accident and not being able to get home haha. I hate to be that guy but it was a bit painful watching you being held back by your mate on the MT10 but I understand why you stuck together.. but maybe another lap on your own? It looks like you're either taking it easy or those cars are going insaneley fast :')
Walk through the paddock must have been a cool way to ease the pain of the rain! I think it's a bit of a double edged sword. Naturally I wanted to go faster, but I'm glad that I didn't as I most certainly would have come unstuck at some point!
You guys did great! The other pros have been there a million times. So dont´t worry about them ✌🔥🔥
Thanks Oma. Yeah i think the best advice in any situation is to just ride for yourself! That said, i think Next time will be a bit quicker!
Very entertaining videos love both leading to the ring and on it good job you didn’t overtake might have stretched the chain again and got into trouble.
Thanks Malcolm. Good point there. Safety first! 😜
I get it, you were being courteous not overtaking the MT-10 but that guy was afraid to lean his bike - looking at your speed, someone on a CB500 would do it faster than him... Where's Schaaf?
I think that first time out, even the mighty @Schaaf would be equally as cautious! He's seen first hand the consequences of pushing it with too many unknowns. Matt is a qualified Advanced rider and long time veteran of the Ring. He was just trying to ride to the pace of the group he was in, rather than blasting off at his own speed. Very selfless, considering he'd ridden all the way from the UK just to ride the RIng once with us!
@@AndyManCam Wasn't expecting getting a reply! With that out of the way, it irked me greatly when he braked so hard you were almost crashing into him. I understand the Tuono rider was going slower than you two - but even so, there were moments you seemed a bit frustrated with the heavy braking. But of course, I'll take your word, after all you were the one there. Keep up the great work, I thoroughly enjoy your videos mate.
Thanks @Andresousaism. Sure there were a few moments when the braking surprised me. I guess I decided to respect the decisions of the seasoned veteran and just go with it. Ultimately as nobody got hurt, it was a success. I'm certain we'd have nailed it a bit harder if we'd had a second lap!
Your mate is a "speedo watcher" every time he gets to 140kph he rolls off. Quite scary. But it all looked like safe and great fun. Last time I was there it rained at the end of the lap... Yikes!
Read the description
@@johnn17golf I had read it that's why I commented
Nah, he's a MIke-watcher! He was just trying not to get away from us Ring newbies on our first time out! Don't be mistaken, he could have left us for dust at any moment! Lucky for us, it rained all morning and both cleaned off the track AND scared away most of the Sunday punters! VERY lucky outcome TBH!
@@AndyManCam Fair enough, you looked like you were enjoying the grunt of your CBR. It's great fun on a bike but the sports cars are a bit intimidating when they come through.
Absolutely, that thing is a pleasure to power out of the bends on! I think that years of riding on the autobahn here means I’m used to sports cars blasting past at twice my speed! Still doesn’t make it fun though!!
Your Mate in Front is driving in a very unpredictable way, sometimes behind corners he stops acceleration, why? And he breaks very far before the corners. OK, saftey 1st @ starting with racing tracks, but i would wait with filming until being a little more used to it. But this is still a very useful and well-done video of the track, just because it is not that fast! I own a that cb as well and everybody can see here what could be possible using higher revs, (lower gears) and cornering faster - this bike can be fun on the track. Thank You Andy and contiue!
Aaah - reading the discussions below explains a lot! Once more thank u and keep on goin' with wheels down!
Cheers Mathias. I agree, this bike is very capable and can be shockingly fast when you push it right! I'm looking forward to getting another chance to try it out on track and really see what it can do.
Your "Nordschleife expert Matt" could use some tutelage vis-à-vis cornering posture. Yours is excellent. Do him a favour.
I mostly try hard not to tell other people how to do their thing. Everybody rides their own ride, and if the y want to change/ improve, then that's their own prerogative.
@@AndyManCam You are a wise man.
Old and content! If that counts as wise, then I'm in! :D
Yeah that was pretty awesome. Very nice mate!
Thanks Brett! It was pretty cool to finally see it in real life!
Looks like you were being held up there mate fantastic
Held up / saved from a self inflicted blazing inferno!!
Oh the full full track inc the gp & north loop that’s massive
Hey man. Subscribed and loving your channel. What's the brand of your helmet? Keep it up!!
Many thanks! It's a Nishua Carbon Enduro. YOu can get it from Louis.de or it's basically the same design as the Klim Krios: www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/333226/#/27945,3255,0
I’ve been lucky to been there a couple of times it’s just Awesome and mental at the same time 👍👍
I totally agree! Scary, exciting, dangerous, unknown, reckless... like a sex holiday in Thailand!
Scary 😮 Best motorcycling where there ain't NO cars 😁 Bloody good watch tho thank you 👌👏
Cheers Alex. It was a bit nerve wracking at times! 😳
I'm from the states.... So you can just roll onto this track and rip it up as fast as you want?
Pretty much! The only limit is how nuts you are! Oh and traffic...
I love this place! Greetings from Poland!
Me too! I'll be back!
Glad you enjoyed that!!! I do feel if you were riding your own on pace you would have enjoyed it more, you nearly ran into the rear of your mate a few times... good fun tho!
Sure, I probably could have gone a bit faster, but the guy in front (Matt Mutane) was also stopping us from overrunning the devilishly concealed corners as he knew the course very well. For a first time, I'm just glad that nobody died! Plus I still enjoyed the crap out of it anyway!
Glad you had a good (and safe) outing. There is just so much wrong with the mix of vehicles on that track. And no run off for a biker that goes off. Nothing like going 130 mph, and being passed like you are an old lady on the way to church...lol
It's a dangerous track for sure! A strong reason why I'm OK with the fact that we didn't just recklessly smash it around! I think having 7 years of riding the german Autobahns has gotten me used to being whiplashed by the wake of a Porsche doing 250kmh over my left shoulder!! 😂
Looks like you could've ridden way faster than the fella on the MT-10. I would've just gone past tbh.
I have no doubt that out of the bends the MT-10 has the edge over the CB. Plus I'd have then careened straight off the track as I overshot the next bend horrifically! It may look like he was slowing us down, but Matt was actually keeping us alive with his extensive knowledge of the track! Sure it would have been nice to barrel out of all of the bends at full chat, but we were trying to keep the group together. After all, it was a 'tourist lap' so more about seeing the track than smashing it! Next time though, now that seal is broken! We'll see how the MT and the CB (and maybe the Tuono) really fare against each other!
now this is crazy having cars and bikes at the same time...just imagine having F1 and motogp racing together lol
i've actually seen Casey Stoner and Mark Webber have a race before.. Expectedly, the F1 is dramatically faster.
Yeah it's a bit crazy. But they do basically have the same rules as on the motorway. SO no overtaking on the right, no tailgating etc.. Helps a little with the safety. Not a lot, but a little!
Very relieved you made it around the ring safely. Don’t really understand how they can have slower bikes and faster cars on at the same time. 😳
I guess that they believe that the safety rules are being followed and they're making money, so to hell with it! Fire away!
I’m currently shopping for a new bike looking to trade in my gsxr 1000 and get something more comfortable but still sporting. So I’m loving these new naked bikes and all they have to offer because my 36 year old body is not so fond of outright sports bikes as it once was. I love this video the only thing I wish was just you and the MT 10 going all out on the straightaway just to see the difference in the two bikes full throttle when they both can find their stride I do know the MT 10 is a torque monster but I have heard that the CB 1000 or has a ton of top and pull compared to all of the low end torque nakeds like the MT10 and mt09. Really torn between Honda and Yamaha they both make such nice naked bikes but they are so different it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Hard to say one is clearly better than the other. The CB1000-R is drop dead gorgeous and the best looking Japanese bike currently in my eyes especially this new black edition. But that cross plane crank on the MT-10 is intoxicating. I’m going to try my best to be patient and see what 2022 brings possibly a facelift for the MT 10 or maybe some added features like cruise control for the Honda I guess some of these things could make a difference in having to choose one because right now it really is kind of a tossup between you two for me. I adore the build quality of the Honda it’s more like a European bike than the cheap plastic Japanese bikes in its build quality. Then again you have the empty 10 which is basically like an hour one with that shirt unbuttoned in its feet kicked up and a cocktail and it’s hand ready to party. Such different bikes yet both so appealing.
I'm trying to figure out whether the ring is less stressy than an unrestricted autobahn.
Definitely way MORE stress on the Ring!
@@AndyManCam ...off the bucket list! I´ll stick to the roads nearby...
Ha! Maybe on a quiet weekday evening! But TBH I do think that there are so many good roads in Germany, this can be way down the list. That's why it took me almost 7 years to actually go do it.
Great ish video you got overtaken by a MG Andy man you're got to go again on your own. That bike and you deserve another go, looking forward to watching 👍
Of course! This was just the warm up, with a hint of don't smash the new bike/don't die
That was dam good well done your bike can kick it’s heels
Thanks Peter! Yeah, she's got some beans! I reckon there's a lot more to be had too!
That looked awesome. Now for the more important question: where did you get the compass on your glove?? I really want one of those!
Cheers mate! Here you go: amzn.to/349aaFG
Thank you very much! I'm an old dinosaur that still uses paper maps and don't have a smart phone or a GPS so that compass will come in handy, saves pulling one out of my pocket.
Really enjoy your videos, keep 'em coming.
My thoughts exactly! You have to keep it away from the steel tank, obviously, but it’s really handy. Pardon the pun. 😜
Thought I'd check the comments to see if the MT-10 rider copped some flak for riding so slow. Wasn't disappointed! 😆
Yep, he's been getting it from all directions! Ironic as he could probably ride it faster than most of those commenting! People are always so fast to judge and crucify!
Wow! What an experience. Those sports car drivers are not messing about are they. Too scary for me nowadays. All the comments making me laugh. Don’t need to tell you to keep safe. Thanks for vid.
Hell no! They wanted to get past at as high a speed as possible!! 😂 It was certainly a little nerve wracking, as a first timer!
Hi mate. What's the process doing laps in this circuit. I would like to do it one day. Link to book please. Thanks
It's as easy as rocking up, buying a ticket at the booth and then on you go! More info here: www.greenhelldriving.nuerburgring.de/#/landing
Great video but I think it would be good to include some footage of your reaction after the lap, along with your friends reaction. Would really add something
That's a good idea of course! Always easy to forget to do these things in the excitement of the moment! Next time though...
Have never done a track day but from a rider safety point, why do the organisers allow cars and bikes at the same time?
It is a toll road, not a trackday as such
It's as Hippo-Drones says. Not so much a track day. It's classed as a toll motorway and is governed by all the same rules as the public Autobahn. That's why I could have my tankbag on and at one point a couple went by two up on a motorbike!
The guy in front looks like its his first time on a bike above 60mph
Have a browse through the comments. He’s gotten a lot of stick during his first outing in one of my vids and i don’t think it’s all fair! You saw in the follow up that he’s not at all slow!
@@AndyManCam ill watch that too then!
👍🏻🙌🏻
Brilliant video got me thinking. I’m a new ish rider of just over two years experience, but 40 years old. Would taking myself to the Ring for a lap or two be a bad idea? based upon my lack of experience.
I would recommend getting used to doing "normal" track days first before attempting the Ring (and even then, take it easy for the first 20-50 laps, the Nordschleife is tricky to learn and can be pretty dangerous!)
You will learn alot and gain experience. Just don't push too many boundaries
Not seen the GP track included before! Lucky you!
What Matt Mutane said. It's a pretty daunting experience, so you have to have your wits about you before heading out there. Apparently it was very quiet when we were on track too, so imagine that, but with even MORE traffic! Also although it may look like we were holding back, we also knew when all of the corners were coming due to Matt's experience there. Without that assistance I can imagine that you could get unstuck very fast. And then, although it may feel faster, I think the lap would be far longer due to being terribly stop start, wrong line, and panicked!
This goes on and off my list. Something iconic to do, but all those 4 wheelers and wannabe Schummachers barreling around...might stick to taking my track bike on bike only tracks. How'd you find it wth all the traffic?
I've been the same over the years. Wanted to do it and then wanted more to go touring etc.. Then the chance came to finally do both together ! I think the overall feeling of safety and being able to push it will definitely be greater on a 'proper' track day, for sure. The traffic was a little unnerving, but after 7 years of living in germany, I'm used to Porsches blasting bast me on the Autobahn at twice my speed!!
@@AndyManCam will keep it on my bucket list then... Yeah, or Audi drivers trying to see how close they can drive to ones rear tyre at 150km/h 🙃 maybe that's just a Baden Württemberg problem.
Oh it's definitely a Hamburg problem too! I have never known such incredible impatience as in the Hamburg drivers! I had to drive a van to London for work last week and after over 2000km there and back, I knew that I was getting close to home when suddenly I was constantly being tailgated and flashed from behind because I wasn't overtaking at 250!
👍🏼👍🏼 How was the CB on track compared to the FZ?
On the straights (so up in the higher revs) the two are practically identical. But thanks to the increased low end torque and far smoother fuelling of the CB, threading the power on through the tight twisty bits was a joy. Whereas on the FZ it was often a bit of a jerky, sometimes hit-and-miss affair. Also the CB feels lighter in the low speed stuff, possibly due to better weight distribution. Awesome that a bike can look so much more 'classic' but at the same time cut it better than a far more sporty looking machine. Still, 14 years of development counts for a lot! Overall, despite utterly loving the FZ1, I wouldn't go back to it now.
What did you do to the suspension settings for this circuit.. it looks a handful...your new bike seemed to cope well....
It did do pretty well TBH. I had 2 or 3 extra clicks of rear preload, a bit more rear rebound, a touch more front preload, 2 turns more front rebound and 3 turns less front compression. Seems to be doing the trick so far.
Clearly your skill level is higher the the other two guys. You need to ride with someone with same or even better skill level, then yourself. You should have driven in front, and give it some more beans, like the two sports bikes that passed you in the beginning of the video (4:40). If i paid to race on the ring, and i would be held back by the guy on the MT10 i wanted my money back. He breaks way too often, and can only drive fast in the straight sections.
Haha! Appearances can be deceiving! Matt, in front, was holding back big time, in order to keep us fresh fish in view! If I'd have gone in front, I'd have opened the taps on the first long straight and then flown over the barriers on the next hidden bend! 😂 That track isn't messing about! It's like the race track equivalent of a suckerpunch. Over and over again!!
Ground clearance was ok? Steering damper needed?
No issues whatsoever and after 2 years of ownership over never had a wobble that even hinted in the direction of a tank slapper. 👍🏻
@@AndyManCam great to hear. Thank you!
My pleasure 💪🏻
Looks bloody good fun
That just about covers it! Plus with a hint of addictive too!
Nice one Andy.
Thanks Mark!
A 'Threesome' is rarely a good idea in my limited experience. :-) If it had been just the two of you Matt would have been able to up the pace when he saw you were 'on his tail'. Three is an 'odd number' in more ways than one! (Sorry I'm late, must have missed this one due to the new YT way of notification.) Hat's off to you for replying to all the comments.
While backpacking, I'd say that 3 is the perfect number, as you always get a majority in every vote! But with biking I perhaps agree that 2 is the magic number! As long as your're closely matched, otherwise one of you is going to be very frustrated! 😜
@@AndyManCam :-)
Wow! how fast were those cars?....i know you dont hang about and to be over taken those many number of times must be quite unnerving I suppose.
CRAZY fast! We weren't smashing it, but still those cars made us look even slower!!
@@AndyManCam exactly. I had to rewind to check ur speedo readouts a few times to see what was going on..clearly not childs play this place
Hell no! Things could go wrong very quickly on there! Our host also very kindly treated us to a 2 hour medley of videos of exactly that happening! Crashes aplenty! Didn't really help with the nerves!!
@@AndyManCam oh my!! Watching stuff like that or even conversations to that extent do my head in.. i steer clear of em all.. glad you had fun and got out well
You and me both mate! 😅
When first i began to follow you, you rode something with two less cylinders. I joked then about your obtaining a Kawasaki ZZR1400. Now I see this. I'm sorry to have possibly brought this on...
Haha! I blame you entirely! I remember that I used to say I didn't need power or sporty handling. Now look what you've done!
Well, that looks amazing. I'd like to have seen you leading a lap, as , as exhilarating as it looked, the 'leader' chap, seemed to be very slow (cautious). It would be good to know how you felt bout the speed you went round vs the potential speed you could have gone round if you weren't hindered .
It was awesome to see it all in real life! I reckon that had I been 'unhindered' I'd have gotten myself into a mess very quickly! So many blind dips and crests with nasty off cambered corners right after them! Matt in front knew when all of these were coming, so we were forewarned about what to expect! So I see his efforts more as a safety brake than a hindrance! Next time we'll definitely up the pace a bit. No more Yaris overtakes here!
AndyManCam very sensible too. Must have been quite terrifying when other cars sped past you! I nearly pooped my pants watching!
Absolutely! Doing 100km/h around a bend and then being quickly overtaken by a porsche on the outside was a particular treat! 😳
Nice bike ride safe sir
Thanks, you too!
Must be a bit nerve-wracking sharing the track with 4,000 pound, four-wheeled death machines.
You're damned right! Especially when they take you on the outside around a bend and you're already doing 60mph!
Can't wait to watch this! I've Butterflies ! Lol
I'll bet they weren't as big as the butterflies that I had before going on!
Bet you checked your rear tyre after that and quietly said " oh yeah! " 😁👍
Haha! Absolutely! I was already down to the edge on one side, but the other was well toasted after this lap too!
I were definitely faster then the guy in front of you ... that track was made for my Duke ...
I'd recommend giving it a go. Take your nerves of steel though! :D
@@AndyManCam I need to proof read my post more I meant “you” were faster then the rider in front of you lol
Haha! Don’t worry, i misread it too! 🤣
we need tracks like this in the states properly every state
Hey Andy what a blast eh
Yes mate! It was brilliant! Hard to resist the urge to go again immediately after! But then it would become quite an expensive habit! Also that's normally when disaster strikes isn't it!
Just out of curiosity was wondering how much they charge you to go to track
It was about 30€ for one lap, so probably a couple of quid more now.
@@AndyManCam cool thanks for responding
@chrisdadigger1018 my pleasure!
I live a 15-minute drive from the Nordschleife. For me a temple for the god of speed, in which I sacrifice gasoline and tire rubber to the deity with my CBR1000RR and hold holy devotions at Vmax together with other believers.
Very nice! A fine church at which to bow your head!
👍 Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Was this your first time on the ring? Not being an ass its a serious question! Every track I've ever been on, Toronto motorsport, Laguna Seca, Chuck walla etc my first lap or 2 or 3 are ALWAYS slow until I get to know the thing. Otherwise its just suicide!
Haha! I know right! Yes, it was my first time. The apprehension was tangible! I’m sure the next time would be quicker, although I’m tempted to walk away with having not crashed or died and leave it at that! 😂
@@AndyManCam well when this covid BS is done I intend to find out myself so 😆
It was still definitely fun! With the ring I think you just need to accept that it’s not about lap times, but more about the experience. Too many people have come unstuck there, for apparently no reason!
@@AndyManCam lol aint gonna be setting no lap records on a streetfighter anyways lol
Well fingers crossed it happens soon and you enjoy the hell out of it!
Lucky man, looks a little scary
It was a lot scarier before, and got more enjoyable as it went on. Wish we'd had the time for another lap at the end of the trip!
Good idea to take it easy on your first lap. But that guy in front of you....
Just dont get it. Why not open it up a bit? You should have passed him and then you wouldnt have all those scary moments where he just stopped driving for no reason.
I agree that it's good not to pin it on the first time. But we agreed to ride it together, so the chap in front was just doing his best to keep the group together. Next time will be quicker! 😜
