    Hi from Greece. I have the same bike almost two years and 20k km done. I agree with almost all of your complains especially the rear shock and the soft paint. I've changed quite a bit of things such as full exhaust system by akrapovic, lithium battery, mirrors, brake and clutch levers etc. Despite all gripes I absolutely love this bike, and God permits, I'm going to make it better with new mods. It's a bike that never let's you down or be vanilla as they say. Also it is very trustworthy in terms of handling and power delivery. She is my love and you are going to feel the same.

      @@AndyManCam those are very unsettling news to me. Mine is fine till now I suppose. But cause I'm curious please do explain how is comming off. Like fainting or like little chips? In any case you should press Honda to fix it. If your dealer is uncooperative send Honda an email with photos.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  Год назад +2

      Slow reply! It was wearing off the front from the spray from the wheel AND it was flaking off the side covers as the aluminum was corroding. It took lots of arguing to get Honda to swap the engine casing, but they wouldn’t even accept that the paint from the front of the engine wasn’t normal. Apparently it was my fault for getting the bike wet.

      @@AndyManCam I am /was a big Honda fan. But now I have moved away from Honda because of the poor build quality. I have a triumph, z1000 and 2 Honda cbr929 ( when quality was good) the z1000 I have just bought (2015) leaves the cb1000r standing for quality. Shame as I liked the Honda but will not spend good money on something that looks shit after 6 months . I think most bikes now after 2018 have gone down hill. I hear Harley Davidson are in trouble now and the new triumphs are starting to have problems now they are made over seas. Stick to pre 2018 bikes if you can

    I’m in the process of buying a new bike and today I received an invoice for the labour to fit the factory accessories I bought. I argued the case with them because there was no indication that there would be a fitting charge. My argument was that “in my day” (yes, I’m old,) there was never a charge for fitting factory extras. And now I see your video and lo and behold. It’s standard practice. 😮. They waived the charge for me btw.

    • @AndyManCam

    I own a little Honda CB125R, I did my DAS training on a Honda CB650R, and both have the exact same problems as their big brother the CB1000R: headlight, fuelling, horn button, etc. I fitted a pair of SW-Motech bars to my CB125R, and then I fitted a pair of cheap after market Chinese LED spotlights. To be honest, I didn't think they would last, or be any good, but, they've been fantastic! They're much brighter than the factory fitted Honda LED headlight, and come with various flashing modes. They also give you a wider spread of light, so together with the main headlight, everything in front and to the side of you is lit up. I've also used them as extra DRLs over the winter, and I've noticed a big drop in the number of car drivers pulling out on me, obviously, not a 100% drop! Every bike I get from now on will be getting spotlights fitted, they've been a godsend, unlike the Honda LED headlight, which is like having a candle on the front of your bike!

    I did a quick look through the comments and didn't see it addressed but the adjustments to engine braking happens via the electric throttle bodies. If you select less engine braking the TBs open slightly more on decel and this reduces pumping losses of the engine. With the hand throttle closed the fuel injectors are turned off regardless of the engine braking setting.
    Love the videos, I'm leaning towards getting a cb1000r in the spring.

    I understand that crash bars can sometimes cause vibrations. Pops and bangs are caused by poor fueling, or they're created artificially by the manufacturer because some people like it 😉

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  Год назад +1

      It’s definitely the end can in this scenario. Maybe because the stocker provides the right amount of weight to dampen the buzz, or maybe because the fuelling gets a bit leaner. Guess I’ll never know. The pops and bangs on ‚modern‘ bikes (EFI) is created on purpose by the manufacturers, but not because people like it. It’s because of the air recirculating systems that allow fuel to burn in the exhaust, thereby improving emissions. 🤓

    Holy shit everything is spot on, having this bike myself I thought you were going to be way too harsh and unfair but nope, everything makes sense. The fuel filler cap/bar is so frustrating, I spray fuel everywhere every 4th or 5th time, especially when I'm tired. The only thing is that my rear shock works great because I'm a naturally underweight person, and I don't notice the harshness, it feels very plush to me. The point about the paint though is something surprising, I thought my paint chips were from just bad luck on a mountain road and a couple stones but hearing what you said made sense, paint should be able to take pebbles or cars that drive on the highway would be covered in chips!

The fact that there are 11 likes vs 11 dislikes bears no relevance to how much I like this bike overall. ALL bikes have their 'things' and this one is no different. But make no mistake, this is the best bike I've ever owned. It's also the bike I like the most out of everything I've ridden since I started this channel! Great video Andy. I just recently (in november) part exchanged my 2008 CB1000R for a 2016 Yamaha Tracer 900. I had a great 4 1/2 years on the CB and made a few nice tours on it, but was ready for a change in ride especially after riding around 8 years on a Honda (before the CB i had a VFR800FI). The main reason for the change was the seating position of the CB, i would get a lot of leg cramps when riding longer distances (200Km+), apart from that it had been a very reliable machine, great handling but not very economical. The older CB had the same problem with the rear shock being very standard and not the best quality, for the rest no complaints. I have packed the Tracer away for the winter now, as the weather has gone downhill now here in the Netherlands, and now waiting very impatiently for the winter to pass so i can get back out on the road again.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 года назад

      I find that the indicator button just falls easier under the thumb where it is on other bikes. Sure in theory, it seems like having it closer to your thumb is better. But I think that it's more about the mechanics of the thumb. Central to the bar enables you to get more leverage and more control of the movement of the thumb. Still, I'll get used to it... eventually...

    The 4-6k rpm buzz is a characteristic of all flat plane inline fours. Nominally a high revving engine like this would have a balance shaft to mitigate them, but it seems Honda minimised them enough to not blow the engine apart and ditched the balance shaft. It's a good weight/cost saving, but it brings out that annoying resonance.

    • @AndyManCam

      Wouldn’t surprise me for Honda. Everybody else is concentrating on how to make smoother engines (except for Triumphs T-crank!) while Honda sticks with the same lump from almost 20 years ago in the hope of clinging to when they were at the front of the engineering pack. While simultaneously keeping prices at the same level as the more advanced competition, despite the age old tech. You’re only as good as your last game Honda!

    Great video. There is always going to be little niggles and big pluses with any bike. I have a suzuki GSR 600 and a versys 650. The GSR I have had for nearly 8 years now and has never let me down, the suspension is a big let down on it and I wished they had used LED Lights on it but actually with 50k miles on the clock, I still have it and enjoy it and still puts a big smile on my face. The versys is great, again suspension a little bit soft but more adjustable than the suzuki and actually its a great bike to ride for what I am into. In a way should have gone for the 1000 cc or the 1000sx tourer because I love inline four engines but actually I do like the parallell twin and its so good in fuel. I bought the 650 cc as it was relatively cheap for the 2013 model and I wasn't sure if I would get on with that style of bike and didn't want to pay too much for the pleasure of finding out. Test rides just aren't long enough, so I took a punt and glad I did. Good job on the videos and I look forward to seeing more. My CB1000R rins smooth as glass. No vibration at all. Not buzzy. I agree about the front fender...
    The pops and crackels are usually associated wirh bad fuel mapping. Honda usually do not have that until they hit the rev limiter. Now, if you like that popping...buy a Triumph. They are notorious for popping, cracklings and sometimes
    .. bursting into flames.. Me thinks you complain too much.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 года назад

      I guess everything is relative. Maybe i'm more sensitive to the vibes or perhaps even less tolerant. Or maybe yours is just better balanced. The pops and crackles I'm talking about have nothing to do with bad fuelling, In fact most of the time they're programmed into the bike on purpose to burn off any extra fuel in the pipe and improve emissions. But it seems that with the Euro 4 gubbins in the pipe, the extra pops are either muffled out or unneeded.

    • @chuckbowen4334
      @chuckbowen4334 4 года назад +1

      The popping on decell is because unburnt fuel is detonating in the exhaust. Usually due to a rich condition. It can also hapoen in a lean condition when the innards of the exhaust get so hot, that they ignite the fuel mix again....in the exhaust.. so...fuel mapping?
      Never heard of normal popping...

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 года назад

      Modern bikes have an entire system dedicated to promoting the combustion of unburnt fuel in the exhaust system. Trust me, every modern electrically fuel injected bike pumps air into the exhaust tract so that unburnt fuel can burn before it leaves the bike. This burning causes the pops. It’s more noticeable if a bike has been decatted or if an aftermarket endcan has been fitted as the sound isn’t deadened. In any case, if the manufacturers put a system in to do this, then it is very normal. Also a rich mix will pop less as the extra fuel actually has a detonation retarding effect. It’s why a rich fueled engine will run smoother (and cooler) than a lean fuelled engine, in which the fuel tends to predetonate (exploding before the spark) and cause rough running leading to vibrations and increased heat.

There’s a reason Ferrari refuses to implement that feature into their cars. Buy hey, to each his own. My 2018 CB650F doesn’t crackle either. That engine is literally music to my ears. I’ll start it up and rev it, just to hear the motor. I just got a 2022 S1000R and it doesn’t crackle either 🙏.

      It just so happens that pretty much every modern bike has pops and crackles. It’s built into the engine as a result of the air recycling system that is used to clean up emissions. Air is fed into the exhaust tract and any unburnt fuel is exploded before it exits the bike. The only thing is that it happens before all of the Euro5 silencing and catalysers so we don’t hear it.

    • @sebastianocornelio9774
      @sebastianocornelio9774 3 года назад

      @@AndyManCam I had no idea it was for emissions. My new BMW s1000r is Euro 5 and you would be surprised at how massive the catalytic converter is. The whole system weighs 24lbs with the actual exhaust can being almost 4lbs and the headers being another 2-3lbs. That’s the bike’s biggest flaw. The massive catalytic converter being exposed with no fairing to hide it. The bike is almost whisper quiet below 4-5k rpm too. The Honda cb1000r was on my short list. BMW’s generous discount is what made the BMW my choice. There are virtually no deals with the shortages of motorcycles as well.

    Unpopular Opinion: Honda is the only manufacturer to put the indicator and horn buttons in the correct place. After riding Hondas for a while reaching up with your thumb to the center of the cluster to use the MOST USED button just doesn't make sense.

    • @AndyManCam

      The real problem i have is that I’ve managed to train the muscle memory not to push the horn when i want to indicate. But i don’t use the horn enough to retrain that reflex so if i want to honk fast, i always end up angrily indicating at them! 🤣

    Two great vids again amc.
    I have the little brother CB650R and I must admit I love it. Mostly.
    The fuelling/engine braking/throttle off throttle on is, rather lumpy (I am a new rider, so it might be me) and oh my effing father of baby J, attempting to fill the thing with petrol. It’s sooooooooo annoying.
    Lastly, I get a few false neutrals, which may be me, but I don’t think so.
    Other than that , I Bloomin’ love it and can only imagine the 1000 version is just better.

      Many thanks David! The 650 is also a stunning looking piece of kit! Is your headlight any better though?! I reckon you could probably smooth out the throttling with practice. I think that coming from my super Jerky FZ1 has given me Jedi-like throttle precision now! I've had a fair few falso neutrals too, but have managed to reduce it by just being overly 'motivated' with my shifting! Keep enjoying that CB mate!

I also have a mt09sp and am really impressed with the lack of vibes at all of the useable parts of the rev range...It may get a little bit viby at the upper limits I don't really know because my adrenaline has me on too high of a buzz ;).

    Thanks for the series of videos! I have some gripes on my 2019 but not necessarily at "loathe" on the big CB's faults. I definitely agree with these faults, minor an annoying:
    -mid-range buzz in bars (which seems to correlate with the flat-spot in power delivery. I'm surprised I didn't notice that making your list)
    -soft paint that won't wear well (any recommendations on how to protect it?)
    -OEM parts expensive, yes... (The OEM heated grips are worth the money, I promise! But the $180 faux-aluminum "Meter Visor"? Hard NO)
    -I'm seriously considering going Evotech or Yoshimura to delete the rear hugger, relocate tags to normal place for simple chain adjustments. Huge advantage of the single-sided swingarm is not having to deal with alignment like with my previous CB's
    -Similar to the previous design flaw but worse on a daily basis: What is up with the FUEL FILLER crossrail?
    -Yep, cruise control should be standard on Honda's flagship standard
    .
    Not on my list, but interesting:
    -I've hit the horn once by accident (I'm a Honda guy) in 900 miles. The contoured turn signal toggle is easier for me to reach than the pivoting horn switch.
    -I think the sound is delightful and growly, but not annoying (US non-California model possibly different?)
    -Rear shock is much better than my 2004 599 Hornet... so not saying anything at all.
    On my list, not mentioned:
    -I miss my magnetic tank bag, I guess they're using aluminum now. (But I guess it would only worsen the paint protection issue)
    -already mentioned the flat spot in the power band, but it's very Honda in the "VTEC" mentality. I don't mind it as it's similar to the power delivery of my B18 Integra and K20 Civic. Both great cars!
    Cheers!
