- A comparison test of the three motorcycles that define the modern Universal Japanese Motorcycle segment.
In the early 1970s, Japanese manufacturers stormed the US market with a new genre of do-it-all motorcycle. With Honda’s CB750, Yamaha’s XS750, Suzuki’s GT750, and Kawasaki’s Z1, the Big Four were manufacturing the superbikes of the time. Eventually these strong standards would come to be known as Universal Japanese Motorcycles, or UJMs; motorcycles comfortable enough to slog through traffic on a daily commute, robust enough to load up with a passenger and some luggage for light weekend touring, and fast enough to strip down for serious sport riding. Motorcycles have evolved, and categories and subcategories have emerged with specialized uses and little visual tie to these classic machines, but the need for a stylish and versatile motorcycle remains. And so the UJM is making a comeback.
The 2020 Yamaha XSR900, 2019 Honda CB1000R, and 2020 Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe are three different takes on the glory days of the Japanese standard. Each one has a character all its own, and each manufacturer brings its own flavor of nostalgia to the modern riding experience. For this test, we spent time using each motorcycle as intended: universally. We spent full days and several hundred miles on the bikes, using them for daily commutes, in traffic, and around-town riding, then leaving the city for spirited canyon runs. Prior to real-world testing, we ran them on our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer and gathered objective performance numbers at our private testing facility.
Street testing was conducted in Downtown Los Angeles, a hostile environment for big bikes. Dense traffic, tall buildings, and constant construction define the DTLA riding experience. It’s scooter country. Cycle World’s Executive Editor Justin Dawes and Road Test Editor Michael Gilbert met me near the Walt Disney Concert Hall, suited up with Cardo Bluetooth comms devices paired in our helmets and ready to ride.
It’s environments like this where the XSR’s relatively light weight, short wheelbase, and renowned CP3 engine shine. Yamaha’s 847cc triple is the quickest revving of the three tested, almost to the point of feeling twitchy. The strong, punchy power delivery is capable of upsetting the chassis during even minor throttle adjustments while riding in A or STD modes. A switch to the bike’s B mode slows throttle response, should you so desire. Still, as Dawes said, “Riding in the least aggressive map shouldn’t be the go-to on a modern motorcycle to make it behave correctly.”
At 6-foot-4, I look and feel big on the XSR. But I was surprised to suffer no discomfort, except for seeing the photos. In tight urban quarters, where I am typically either accelerating from a light or slowing for the next one, I had not a single complaint.
Honda’s CB1000R is smooth at low revs, not as quick to respond as the Yamaha but plenty quick when prodded. At higher revs, the 998cc inline-four sings. But here in the city, it’s simple, smooth, and consistent. Its ergonomics are the most aggressive of the three bikes, with high footpegs and a seat that tends to slide the rider forward, and it seems to beg for higher speeds as we meander through town. The Honda is stable at low speeds and drops in easily, but in this setting it just didn’t have the opportunity to show its teeth.
Despite being the heaviest and longest bike here, the Z900RS Cafe was the balanced middle ground of this trio. It is nimble and manageable at low speeds with a healthy amount of power, smooth delivery, and peak torque hitting more than 2,000 rpm earlier than the other two bikes. The footpegs are lower than the others’, and the handlebar placement is about the same. Along with the plush seat, this bike put each tester in a comfortable riding position regardless of height. It was also the only model with built-in strap points around the tailsection or any form of wind management. Those feel mighty universal.
Style and spirit are large factors in this segment, and these bikes evoke nostalgia with classic lines and paint schemes. In the Arts District, we parked and enjoyed some overdressed health food while listening to comments at our COVID-safe curbside table.

There aren’t a lot of videos talking about just how Great the Z900RS Cafe is but I’m really glad they made this comparison. The Kawasaki is a Beast and definitely feels like a muscle bike with torque everywhere in the rev range. I’m 6’6” 290 and she still pulls like no other. 11/10 bike highly recommend.

The other two are the epitome of ugly to me , the Honda has no Beauty and the yam looks like a sports bike with the fairing removed , and what with those rear indicators flapping about doesn't seem particularly well made either, give me the kwack in black all day long because believe me I don't care how good a bike is I couldn't live with an ugly bike, but hey there's no accounting for taste.
@@tomadamclarke4509 Beauty is subjective. I love mine and I fell in love with it the very first time I saw it. Plenty of people out when I'm riding agree. Almost half of them actually think it's an 80s bike. They get very surprised when I tell them it's a 2020 bike, lol.

Ninja 300 is not a slouch. It's plenty for around town, can do freeway ok, keeps up just fine when carving with other bikes. One of my riding buddies rides a Ducati Panigale was surprised watching me ride. I got it for $2600, pay $120 annually for full coverage and get awesome mileage.

I’ve put 40,000 km on y Z900rs and I loved every one of them. I wanted a cb1000r originally but it was just out of my price range so I “settled” for the Kawasaki and I’m really happy I did.
Settling with Kawasaki always ends up a good long term experience. Definitely going for the Z900 although the single side swing arm of the Honda is pretty cool
I am so torn between Z900RS and Ninja 1000SX these days.. It is even harder after watching this review!! 😞🥺
@@Tobeon2 I think it really depends on what type of riding you are going to do most, z900rs is a great city, day trip back road bike where the 1000sx will be better for longer rides with better wind protection comfort and storage.

I love my 2018 XSR900. Throttle response is perfectly fine in A mode and STD mode. Not twitchy at all if you have your throttle free play set correctly. Of course A mode is more aggressive, that's what its for. STD mode is perfect for all occasions. Cross plane triple cylinder engine (CP3) is awesome with plenty of character and great sound. Torque in every gear, perfect for ripping around city streets and local canyons. Best bang for the buck and the funnest bike I've ever owned!
This posters speaks truths. I only ride in A mode TCS 1 on the Yamaha, and all it really takes is some good practice and throttle control comprehension.
If you're somebody that is heavy on the handlebars and you don't grip the tank with your legs you're going to have a much less fun time with this ride.
@@That1J1 As an XSR900 (2016), I agree with both of these posts. I ride mainly A, TCS2, in the city. I am looking at the Honda CB1000R though... but I have spent too much on mods for my Yammie, so.
I bought the 2020 xsr900 the same one used in this test and I'll admit it's not a beginner ride but it's me all day long. No bike is perfect as is for every rider, you have to adjust to size and weight, mirrors had to change for me because of my shoulders and for some even the rear set but that's why you don't buy like you do when buying a car. Test videos like these treat bikes in that manner, you buy for what you're looking for then spend a bit more adjusting it to you. The Yamaha puts you in a better position up front at cost OTD and leaves room for wallet decisions.
Hello. Interesting review about this bike and the others to.I am rather interested to buy one. Today I own a GSX 1400 naked muscle bike with enormous torque and about 106 horsepower in the engine. It’s a really heavy bike but I love it and have used it on track days with much fun every time. I really like the looks of the XSR900. I didn’t know that the MT09 had the same engine... but what do you think? I love the direct power I get on my GSX1400... can I get the same feeling with the XSR?p and much better handling. I drive mostly smaller country roads, day trips who can sometimes be up to 400km. Every now and then I take the bike to work to. Almost never drive in city areas. Can this be a alternative to my beloved Suzuki GSX 1400? Have a great day and keep your health and give you all a big regard from a very cold Sweden. 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
@@sanoj1969 I gave up on big wrist riding personally, the great thing about the xsr900 and the kawasaki Z900 is you can enjoy street riding and the torque is great in every gear instead of living in first and second gear on a 1000 +. Plus the ride position is way better on your back, wrists, nect, etc. There's still insane power on the xsr900, for a 430 lb bike and 120 hp you can't go wrong. Try getting on the throttle and keeping the front wheel on the ground, anyone that's been on one will tell you it's a beast. If you're still into riding on your wrists there's nothing wrong with that, I still go out with a few friends here and there on a Kawasaki R12 (it's a 2001 model and it still rips down the highway) but if you want a new ride that's lite and comfortable that you can enjoy on the roads in every gear it's a fantastic addition.
Z900rs cafe rider here and I would just like to say I bought this bike because I fell in love with the look and can 100% confirm that every mile has been nothing but smiles

Cool video 😎 I am a 40 Y/O who last rode a motorcycle 25 years ago. i bought a brand new 2019 CB1000-R last year on sale ($10,700 out the door) and rode it in 1st & 3rd gear ! It blew me off on comfort & agility + it is a Honda so i always feel connected to the brand and its Friendliness to Riders. Nothing else tempts me except a Triumph. I am fearful Rider So those who say Hondas Got no Character, I confidently disregard their argument. To me the CB1000-R is a total package and a Quality Knowledgeable Riding Companion 😇

Thanks for the review. Very cool. Back in 1978, I bought a used KZ900 for $1500, with about that many miles on it. Loved the bike! It is so cool to see these coming back. In about 84, I got a used Eddie Lawson replica...wish I still had it! This new bike sits between the two...with all the great new tech of course!
FYI - That KZ900 is still running and has over 220,000 miles on it!!
Traded in my XSR900 for the Z900RS Cafe, and couldn’t be happier. The suspension is smoother, throttle is smoother, and it has the famous Kawasaki intake growl !
Every review for the Z900RS has been good but nothing compares to owning one.
What’s it like to own? I’m looking to get one this spring.
I own one and I find it amazing it is less powerful than some rivals and all but it does well everywhere and as ample power to break the law by far. It is very comfortable but yet fun on twisty road and also easy to commute. I just love my bike and recommend buying one. You don't even need to change the exhaust you can respect emissions and have a bike that sounds awesome.
@@coandc Yeah man it’s 10/10 to own, comes with a 12v outlet under the seat so I hooked up a phone charger and X grip to it the first week and ride it everyday! The mini fairing actually does help on the highway, you can tuck behind it but I’m 6’6” and don’t even really feel the wind on my helmet when I’m sitting upright. Definitely had a lot of people asking what year it was and saying how the love the styling. Highly recommend!
Agreed. I was looking mainly between XSR900 and Z900RS, ended up with the Z. It's smooth, it's fast but not scarily fast. Looks amazing (I have the black version), and get a lot of people asking about it and making comments on it's looks. I have the Akropovic header and stock exhaust, sounds amazing. Seat is comfy and have taken my wife on rides a few times and she's plenty comfy too. Love the analog gauges vs digital on most other bikes. Only gripe is I wish it had more power but I'm also a bigger rider. 9/10 bike for me. Would highly recommend.

The Honda is absolutely beautiful. It has such a beautiful timeless style yet subtle and modern. It’s a very mature looking bike like a Porsche who has the same design language from long ago but has modernized that design so it looks timeless yet modern. The other 2 bikes just look old to me. Like the are fully restored bikes from decades ago.

If Honda had leaned into the retro styling more they would have had a sure fire winner. Triumph who are doing the most true to era looking retros with modern performance are flying off the showroom floor.
With Honda's reliability and heritage, they missed an opportunity here.

I took the Kawi for a test ride last year and loved it. Classic looks but seriously fun ride. I liked having the cafe windscreen, but preferred the paint colour on the naked version - especially the root beer and orange!

I started riding my dad's '75 Z1b in '79 and I just got my 2020 Z900rs 2 weeks ago. It's like going back to my teenage years, but with more......caution.

I had been riding about 6 years then, but he was a relative newby and just pulled the trigger on the baddest bike of all. Caution is an amazing phenom. Virtually non-existent in youth, but grows huge with age - like a prostate.
I modded a bit my z900RS Cafe and it's a TREAT ! (Akrapovic exhaust, Dynojet Commander and quick shift, clip-on bars, Ohlins rear shock)

Just picked up a 2018 XSR900 last week and love everything about, it has features I had no idea newer bikes had like an Eco mode!😱
It's not an econo mode. It just displays econo when you're riding it in a "fuel efficient" manner lol. Like keeping the throttle steady. I have about 700 miles on mine, and it says I'm getting about 44mpg

@@nbrider7235 having ridden behind several yammies, I can tell you this is very normal. And so freaking goofy looking.
Having to replace a broken indicator just because you unmounted your motorcycle in a hurry makes you grateful for these floppy ones! Remember here in Europe we don’t have these huge orange ones which must be a US regulation thing
They play an important role in rebound damping. If you take them off it'll upset the suspension.

I'm going to explain what needs to be covered in reviews. 1.) Gear ratios. 1st gear and 6th gear. 2.) Cruising RPM at 70 mph. 3.) Gas mileage. 4.) Engine vibration at speed. 5.) Shifting smoothness, and ease of shifting in heavy traffic. 6.) Storage capacity under the seat, tool kit options. 7.) Gauge functionality and close up views of speedometer and gauge lights. 8.) Dyno numbers and torque feel when driving the bike. 9.) Sound of the engine. 10.) How many females look at the bike when it's sitting in traffic. 11.) Handling. 12.) Headlight functionality. 13.) Fit and finish, aesthetics.

i don't think you understand. It's much easier to just talk about your personal preferences and impressions than to be objective and informative. Thnik of all the work they would have to put into it.
I got the Z900RS Cafe portion of that Covered! 1.) 1st 2.917 (35/12) 2nd 2.059 (35/17) 3rd 1.650 (33/20) 4th 1.409 (31/22) 5th 1.222 (33/27) 6th 0.967 (29/30) not really sure what all that means but googled it and there ya go. 1a.) First Gear is strong and will put you in a wheelie with Traction control off but 6th is almost too high, kinda useless until you hit about 90pmh+ 2.) at 70mph RPM's are at 5200 in 5th and just over 4000 in 6th 3.) 35.4MPG Average and I ride the hell out of her. 4.) Engine vibration at speed is non existent silky smooth 5.) Shifting is like butter except for sometimes the 5th to 6th shift, it's a bit clunky sometimes not sure why but definitely doesn't feel goods when it happens. 6.) Storage is minimal, have my paperwork in there and it comes with a tool kit that has a wrench and a screwdriver but that's it. 7.) cant show you but basically an analog Speedo and Tach with a screen in the middle that shows fuel and temp on the sides, big gear indicator in the middle, KTRC level above the gear indicator, a clock, and you scroll thru stuff like Odo, av gas mileage, trip a and b, that kinda stuff turn signals easily visible but separate from the digital screen. 8.) idk the dyno numbers but my butt dyno says FAST lol a ton of torque everywhere in the range but slightly less on the top end. Top speed is around 140 indicated but feels fast as hell up until a little after 100 0-60 in 3.0 if you got the skill to pull it off. 9.) Sound is straight from the Heavens, ton of character, very refined but not super loud. 10.) Lots of females but also a lot of old dudes who remember when this bike came out in the 80's but always lots of compliments everywhere. 11.) Handles like a dream, totally predictable and confidence inspiring. Leans in with little effort despite it's size I think it's because she's so predictable you can really put it where you want. 12.) Headlight is good! very bright with good throw but the highbeam really only lights up the center portion, doesn't light to the sides much. 13.) Fit and Finish is KRISP. great quality feels very solid with good feeling controls, nothing feels cheap at all even the turn signal and kill switch buttons feel high quality. Over All a Great Classic look that actually looks classic, feels modern and fast to todays standard, and will have you looking great in every situation! Hope that helps sorry my reply was 3 months later! LOL
You are forgetting what it's like with a pillion and or max loaded weight bikes can take
Although in my opinion the design of the cb1000r is insanely incredible, I can understand that you may not like it. But criticizing its engine is unusual. You say that it is very smooth, which is correct, but you do not say that it is also the one with the most CV, the one that does 0-100 in less time and the fastest in the quarter mile, of the 3 bikes.
I dont think he knows that it's a detuned CBR1000rr engine from last generation. They do get incredibly smooth when detuned. But that's not a hard fix if you know the right shop.
Clearly they not honda lovers 🤷🏽♂️ the cb 1000 is a fucking fun bike to ride

As someone who has owned an XSR900, Who now owns a 2018 Honda CB1000R. The Honda wins hands down IMO. These guys really give it no justice at all. The Honda is 100% faster (By far) than an XSR lol, Esp topend. Never rode an Z900RS but i would assume it is about the same.

i test rode al three of these, i went for the XSR900SP (in 80`s black).
Great review, very well structured well done. I am a Yamaha fan but when I bought an MT-09 3 years ago I really could not "gel" with her and traded her in very quickly for an MT-10 and I now have the SP version. The 09 was a VERY capable bike and did everything well but for me she had no "soul". The 10 instead is a truly amazing bike and screams "thrash me" from every angle and that engine is totally amazing, great experience. Recently I purchased a 2 year old CB1000R and wow, this bike has character to sell, I just rode a few miles but I am hooked.

The cb1k is the winner in my book. It easily looks the best, and has good power as well.
Looks are clearly subjective as I think the Honda is by far the least good looking of the three.

OK, so as a CB1000R owner, I am a bit biased here but 143HP Fireblade engine = vanilla milkshake??? Hmmmm. Only bike of the 3 with a single sided swingarm, which turns heads wherever I take it - just sayin - even more so with a rear cowl and an Akra pipe on it,. Frog green paint or SS Swingarm Sexiness? Hmmm, tough choice.
Also, I think the CB1000R has kind of made it's own Niche - I don't think it sits well in the retro-redux category myself - if anything it falls into the Street Triple/Trident/FZ-09 territory, but actually has more ponies than these - not brash enough to be up with the Touono or SuperDuke, but definitely not a fit in the retro category - it definitely has racebike DNA in it.
I don't know why lots of moto journalists say 4cyoinder engines are basic. It's become a meme at this point. 😂
The reality is pretty much every modern bike is flying amazing. Just gotta try and nitpick.
People should just buy what they think looks cool at this point .

Kawasaki really hit it out of the park. Massive respect to them for going all in with the styling while still modernising where it counts to make it a great bike to ride.
Now I just need them to come out with boxy sport bikes with crazy paint schemes and twin circle headlights like in the 90's but with modern suspension and brakes with EFI and I'll be going into debt faster than a turbo Busa makes you lose your licence

I love three things about this video: One, they have my current gray leather speed and strength jacket on display behind them, they reference my old FZ(MT)09 that had the same engine as the XSR, and my bike I just bought yesterday which is a gray kawi z900rs cafe, which I am super stoked has such good reviews on RUclips!

I have an XSR900 and a Z900RS Cafe, both pretty tricked out with various aftermarket goodies. Love both bikes. The Kawi definitely is the looker and really looks like an old bike. The Yamaha has more of a muscular look, but doesn't really harken back to any older Yamaha. Performance-wise the XSR is my favorite, but that Kawi is a little screamer as well. I have aftermarket pipes on both bikes, Graves Titanium on the Yamaha and a Brocks Titanium on the Kawi. They both sound awesome, but think I prefer the XSR and that infamous triple's sound. Hey I also own both with aftermarket- I changed the exhaust, air box, and entire break lines in bit models. I agree with you- the XSR is far superior, and much more fun, but he z900 is more mature abd easy to ride. Both are winners

I just picked up a Z900RS (standard version not the Cafe) two days ago and it is absolutely beautiful and has the best sounding stock exhaust of any motorcycle I have ever owned. I was only able to ride 30 miles as it is winter in Canada so I can't really give an honest assessment of how it rides but I love it so far. It's going to kill me waiting for spring to arrive.
I really wanted to like the Honda as that is traditionally the brand I would buy (have owned 9 Hondas) but the styling just didn't appeal to me. Call me old fashioned but I want my bike to have an actual rear fender.
Agree, not even sure the Honda should be in the “retro” category, solid bike, just generic looks. Seeing lots of new stock Z900RS 2019’s & 2020’s still in stock in the states, discounting down to $9,300 in ads, were you able to get below MSRP up north?
I got a new leftover 2019 in black for $9995 (plus dealer fees and taxes of course), MSRP is $13,500. Once you factor the tax savings I saved $4000, I just couldn't pass up that deal.

I never remove rear fenders and I would never buy a bike that didn’t have one! My first bike had the fender removed and one day my friend and I were forced to take a pothole ridden muddy detour. When I got off the bike there was mud all over my seat and back. I was pissed! Lol
Love the CB1000R and its baby brother but they're expensive! I couldn't stomach one of these when I got a brand new 2018 Z900 for $6800 in 2020.

Have been loving all the retro Kawasakis coming out over the years, but never was in a position to buy one.
Finally able to afford one and fell in love with the look of the Z900RS Cafe.
Considered a few Triumphs like the Thruxton model, but ultimately chose the ZRS Café. The looks of the other two did not appeal to me. Didn’t look “finished” the way the Z900RS does.
Turned out to be a fantastic bike.

I'd go for the cb650r imo it is the better looking and the better bike overall. Plenty of power, downright gorgeous (those fucking headers,) and overall a wonderfully built bike.
@@EllaBananas For solo riding, a sub 1000cc machine is more than enough. You won't bring a passenger anyway on a cb1000.
It’s great looking bike. I’m a big fan of super reliable Honda quality. I have a 2007 Honda CB900F Hornet and engine is bullet proof. Easy to maintain. Just add gas and drive. No regrets buying Honda.

I really love this bike and platform. I’m looking at purchasing a pre owned one and I’m wondering if I can have it remapped to match the 2020 version (I’m looking at the 2018). It seems logical and a reasonable ask but I haven’t gotten the bike yet and watching this review that was a question I’m taking away from this. Great dialing and input from both of you. Got the 2023 Z900RS Cafe. I love the single sided swing arm of the Honda. I have always loved Honda. I offered a guy for his Honda CB and he turned it down. I went the next day and purchased a new 900RS Cafe. I have not regretted it. Guy called me back a few days later and accepted my offer…too late. He did not know the market. Yamaha does not move my spirit like the Kawasaki and the Honda with that swing arm. I wish the 900RS had a little more arm pulling power but overall it is a great all around bike. I purchased a Corbin for riding two up. Wife is thankful.

I really love my XSR900 and it's a blast in the city, but it really beats you up on the highway. Longest I've done on it in one day was about 350 miles through the mountains in CO and I was worn out afterwards.
I have one also. Great 2nd bike. Not really great on road trips. Really hard to beat around town
Most bikes that arent dedicated touring or cuisers tend to make you sore after a long day riding though. I guess the human body isnt really built for straddling a machine in 70mph winds for 5 hours straight lol
Love my 23' z900rs cafe. Done the usual mods and she is hard to beat.
I bought a CB1000R, not being a Honda fanboy, I just loved they way it looked. I also own a 2014 Harley Night Rod Special and a 2009 Fat Bob.. I think the ZX900RS looks old and terrible. There is definitely a new / old dynamic sweet spot for people like me, styling wise. all of these bikes are way faster than I can use. So it comes down to Ergonomics and looks. So far I love it. Been about a half year (bought it in July for 9.5k, ignore the MSRP) , thinking of selling my NRS because it fits the same philosophy of use, at least for me.
I like the looks of the Honda, because it's an evolution of a standard / UJM instead of a copy.
Love my xsr900. I don't have trouble with twitchy throttle but I did replace the forks and rear shock
How much did it help upgrading the suspension, im thinking of getting ohlins rear shock and fork cartridges for my 17 xsr900

I owned a z900 back in the 70's. I have had lots of other bikes, all sports bikes but that bike still holds top place for all round fun. City, short or long runs two up, through flooded remote areas at midnight under a full moon. It did it all, never had an issue with it. I am not up to riding any more but if I was I would buy either the z900rs or cafe without hesitation.
When I first saw the Z900RS Cafe, I just knew I had to get one. The looks, the color, the sound and the performance is all there in one awesome bike. After I sold my Ducati Monster, I was at the Kawasaki dealership and got one. I absolutely love riding it, way more than the Ducati.
What Monster did you ride previously? i have a deposit on a Monster 1200s - the fact that it's overkill for any riding I do has been gnawing on me, and after looking at all my options I've become obsessed with this z900rs. I've found a mint condition used 2019 z900rs Cafe with a few key mods (Akrapovic Headers, Flashed) and as long as my height isn't too much of an issue, I think i'm going to pull the trigger. I know the Monster would be amazing but I'm sure I'll be quite happy with this.
@@davedisanto8580 I had a 2013 Monster 696. It had full Termignoni exhaust and Ducati Performance ECU. I also added an original oil cooler from a 796 since the 696 didn't have one. Great bike, nimble, light, looked good and sounded even better. Problem for me was maintenance and valve adjustments. And dealing with timing belts in this day and age is just dumb IMO.
But I got to say, the Z900RS is just better in every way. Looks just as good, sounds great, handles better than the 696 in my opinion and it has more power.
Obviously, your 1200s is way more bike and it is definitely faster than the Z900RS (147hp vs 110hp), and lighter too. But, like you said, it could be a little overkill for some riders. I thought of getting a regular 1200 until I saw the Kawasaki. I just knew I had to get one. I got a 2020 in Green/Black paint and I truly love this bike.

I was sold and am making arrangements to bring it home soon. We’re in the dead of winter here but at least i’ll be able to admire it in the garage until the Spring. I personally prefer the Honda out of these 3 in terms of looks. Rode a CB650R once and loved the refinement. As someone else pointed out in the comments, it seems a little unfair to create a retro test and say the Honda isn't really retro enough whereas the Honda doesn't even seem to want or try to be retro, which I like. It's just a really cool looking bike.
I have the cb1000r and it's the perfect everything bike. Looks more retro with the rear cowl you can get. Also has a quick shift
