When our eldest recently bought a Golf R, he and his partner part ex'd her Yaris. She had owned the car for three years and as I was helping them clean it before getting it valued we found an Autoglym care bag in her spare wheel that she didn;t know was there :) As such I inherited a load of old Autoglym and this was one of them. Only played with it briefly but I quite liked it...rediscovering Autoglym after so long was like a trip down memory lane :) Nice vid as always sir.
Cheers Mark, I think this is where my bottle came from when we bought the Audi. Just makes you realise just how good the Autoglym products were in the day
Great video Martin, nice to see an older product get a bit of air time, especially when it’s as capable as this one is.
Cheers Dave👍
Good video Martin. I actually have had this product a good few years and used to love it. Then came the trendier products using sio2 etc and I kind of left it behind. Anyway moving forward to today I washed my sister's new car really quickly and she had a case of autoglym stuff in the boot. Grabbed the aqua wax and used it and I was happily reminded how excellent this stuff is. Safe to say like yourself I am going to be pulling my bottle to the front of the shelf and using next time out!
Great stuff, there's money in those Autoglym bags. could save you a tidy sum
Nice one Martin!, loving these ‘back of the cupboard’ videos 🙌🏻
Love that title, going to have to nick it mate👍
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer 😉😀
Another great video. Got this as part of of LifeShine Audi pack and was the first product I used to dry and add a bit of protection to the car. Still highly recommended.
Always worth having on the shelf Irfan👍
Thanks for the video Martin, use this after each wash during the winter to keep some protection for my cars, buy it in the 5litre tubs so save quite a bit compared to the 500ml bottles from Halfords. 😀😀
surprising how many people are saying they use it Tristan just a shame its only the newer products we all get hit with on the tube🤷🏻♂️
Hello Martin, I've used this a lot and its not a bad product for its age😂😂. I use it on the van in winter with the polar series (blast, wash and seal). I find it helps speed up the drying when doing a large vehicle. Will have to send some photos of the van over via a dm, great video as always 👍👍
Love the photos Paul. Anyone else out there who cleans their vehicles at 01:30 in the morning😱
Good old detailing stuff back in the spot light 💡 💡
Autoglym seldom lets you down mate
Another great little video Martin... Starting to think that cupboard of yours will lead to Narnia one day!! Always look forward to seeing what treasures lurk in the depths of your garage 🤣🤣
Cheers Mark, they take me down memory lane and thats a long lane now days
Yep I'm in the same boat Martin, first time I used it I had never heard of a drying aid but it makes total sense nowadays. Still have that stuff on my shelf and have fond memories of it.
Hello Specky good to hear from you. Yep just takes me back to when I only had a couple of bottles of product on the shelf. Hope you're well mate
I use it quite a bit for maintenance washes, it was also one of the first products I used as it came in the bag I got with my first car and I found it worked well (especially when you have to dry a car quickly here to avoid water spots with 420ppm+ water!)
@@rtnVFRmedia if it works why change it🤷♂
Hi have you tried it on a dry panel
@@jezlucas3878 No because it's marketed as a wet wax and there are many other dry application products.
Reminds me of the time when I took delivery of the Golf R from Volkswagen. I pointed out a scratch and the dealer got some Aqua Wax out the cupboard to try and buff it out. Had to explain that its supposed to be used when the car is wet and it also wont buff that scratch out!!
So he knew what he was doing then🤣🤣🤣
I can understand with Dolden but you seem so so sensible and focused
I’ve been called many things in my life Robert, that’s two new ones 🤣🤣
Great videos Martin, thank you so much for taking the time with putting them together for us. I still have this old school AG which I use now and then. What you would recommend using as a protection wax/sealant coat for use in the sun? It has been a lovely day today but full sunshine here in the Midlands making the car bodywork quite warm to touch. Thanks buddy.
Hi Alan, check out my video ruclips.net/video/HyIyFXCI_XI/видео.html. I applied InfinityWax Optic show wax in over 30deg. www.infinitywax.com/collections/exterior/products/optic-show-wax-50ml. Im not saying its the best protection in the world but it will be good enough until you get weather to apply something of your choice
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Martin, you are a Legend buddy thank you so much.. really appreciated.
Good video Martin, your paintwork looks amazing. I have never used a drying aid although i have many products that can be used that way !!, maybe one day 😀👍🏻
I enjoy using drying aids Alan. I dont always use them but helps reduce swirls and adds a protective top up & if you get the right ones add to your gloss
Which one you recommend Martin ?
@@alantaylor2 My favourite two are Garage Therapy 2 Quick Detailer so if you have that on the shelf then job done. The other one I like is P&S BeadMaker. But in all honesty there are loads on the market and the chances are your favourite QD will probably do the trick mate
Cool thanks a customer gave me a brand new autoglym selection pack this is in there .
Hello Martin,I remember using this myself back in the day,I will have to get some more and use it.
it brings back memories of when we were young🤣
Yes - I'm like you Martin. I first used this product at least 10 years ago (possibly more) and the term "drying aid" wasn't in use (or, at least I hadn't heard of it). So easy to use. One question I used to ask myself was would it "protect the protection" more or less indefinitely? I think it's better than their Rapid Ceramic Spray which is not as easy to use (in my opinion) especially on a wet car.
Hi Peter, im guessing that if you use this on a regular basis (after every wash) then cant see why it wouldn't provide ongoing protection but that would also depend on how often the washes are
Just thinking of your last Autoglym outing with super resin polish and ultra gloss protection, if they were your base every with this on every wash after you’d have a nice little system.. you make me want to throw everything away and go back to basics 😂
We do make things difficult for ourselves Nick don't we. Just look at how much stuff we have on the shelf & how much we actually need and use. Autoglym have it covered for the basics
I’m a top end decorator and I can tell you,yes we do make it complacated,in my trade we have all these wonder products coming out all the time and at the end of the day all the old paint, fillers ect were a hell of lot better than all the new stuff they lasted longer, looked better ect ect and I think all these car products out today are basically no better than the auto glym range the time they’ve been making this stuff tells you that
One of my customers does a lot of these show car and bike shows his shelves consist of a few bottles of auto glym and very little else,he said that’s all you need why fill your workshop with all these different products which gives you headaches worrying which one to use, which when you think of it he’s right
I’m as guilty as the next man but I’m finally learning, stop wasting your money and use what’s good for you,ok if your a pro detainer but 98% of us are not
Keep up the vids mate your a breath of ordinary bloke fresh air !!
@@christopherbutts3346 Cheers Christopher, well said. If it wasn't for running the channel I would only have a few bottles on the shelf. But it keeps me out of the Wife's way🤣
Morning, great video Martin , think most of us started our detailing journey at Halfords with Autoglym , Meguiars etc. and what a rabbit hole it has become ! lol I still buy and use the odd Autoglym product when it's on offer on Amazon , got to love a bargain . Have a good Easter with the family . All the best :)
Cheers mate, you to & don't pig out on chocolate 🍫
As usual great video Martin I've never tried a drying aid on my car just dry with a towell & job done ✔️ 👍
If you have Garage Therapy QD 2 then use that. It lubricates and adds a slick finish as you dry. Just use a short pile cloth
Meguiars ceramic detailer is a great drying aid and gives good protection for a detailer and good on glass and super easy to use and good shine
Hello Gavin, for some reason I have used very few of the Meguiars range. Strange but true🤷♂️
That is one of the coolest looking and sounding intros on the planet, Martin! Great video. I hope You are well. Have You tried Xtreme Solutions Topper? Try some! It is awesome!!! I can't wash "a car" without using a drying aid... it's part of the process.
Hi Jay, thanks mate👍. No haven't tried it but guess I have to now😉
Martin the shine is so good on that bm that the reflection of the wet ground make me look twice .is panal of door dirtyv😀
I know Gerald, I had to look twice when editing. But you know me, I love my car🤷♂
Another good vid thanks Martin. Totally agree so many good products have useless spray heads - why?
Its a real wind up with me Alistair that these guys put products on the market with no thought as to user requirements. My guess in a lot of cases is they buy the product relabel and just pass it on and don't want to invest in triggers. Autoglym clearly produce their own products but absolutely not user consideration😡
Hi Martin just watched your video well put together will get some tomorrow from halfords give it a try , thanks again ,,
Glad to be of some help John, hope the weather holds out for you👍
Great video Martin, you should try Autoglym rapid ceramic spray can be put on wet or dry! It’s pretty good!!
good shout Ryan, it will go on my to do list
Just wondering if you were able to get the wax out the drying towel you used. I found that it left hard bits of wax in the microfibre cloth I used to spread the wax which meant it had to be binned.
Hi David, I always drop my towels into my left over wash bucket solution to soak as soon as I finish with them. I may use a few towels to cover the car as well. I then put them through a rinse cycle and let them hang dry until I have enough for a full wash load. hope that helps
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Good idea. I'll try that, thanks.
I’ve just watched this old video of yours what wax if any wud you put on a brand new car cheers
Hello David, the best wax on my shelf in terms of performance and value is Soft99 Fusso. Although when I bought my X3 I had the front wrapped in PPF. It all depends what you are looking for. Fusso could last up to 12 months, a ceramic coating could last 3 or 5 years depending on the product. The PPF on my car is good for at least 10 years and you can apply most products on it as well as protecting from stone chips. All depends of what you are looking for
Thank you so much
Out of curiosity, does using a wax type product, modern or old, not make your drying towel hydrophobic, reducing its capability as a drying towel? All the best Martin, love your videos.
Hello Lee, I use one set of towels or applicators for applying a wax or sealant, another set for buffing and another few sets for drying different parts of the car. So its never an issue for me. If you use the same set of towels for buffing & drying then yes you will notice their ability to soak up water. Of course my approach means having lots of towels. At my last count it was well over 100 but Im a little strange. I hope that is of some help mate & thanks for supporting, much appreciated
Hello, can it be used on the plastic window surround?
I have never had any issues as it’s only a diluted wax. If you do get any wax on rubber or plastic that leaves white residue then I have found AG glass cleaner removes it. Hope that’s of some help
Hi Martin , never heard of Aqua Wax - do they still make it? Gyeon ceramic detailer for me … great drying aid and it hardly needs buffing.
Have a good Easter!
Hello mate, yep still made and still good. Maybe give it a try once the Gyeon runs out. No easter egg🤷🏻♂
What other hidden gems have you lurking in your cupboards Martin easy watch video I know exactly what you mean I hate crap spray heads
All sorts of things lurk in my hidden depths Paul but probably not as scary as a few things lurking in yours🤣
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Paul’s are on the top shelf 😅
I’ve just purchased this product for the first time and then stumbled on your video.
Could you also apply a sealer every now and then after using it like Meguiars Fast Finish?
Hello Simon, hope you didn't hurt yourself when you stumbled🤣. I use this as a sacrificial layer so my expectation is it will last a couple of weeks so no problem applying another protection product on top. However to get the best from any long term protection, I always clean off any existing protection with a decon wash so the new layer of protection can bond to the paintwork. Hope that is of some help
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Many thanks
And is it the same as 'Autoglym Express Wax '?
Hi Richard, I’ve not used express wax so can’t compare but don’t think so. This is a great drying aid and leaves a good gloss
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Thanks Martin; just that 'Express' is also for wet application, seemingly in the same way, from all I could find... but labelled as 'professional', and in 5L cans, at far less cost!
Worth a try mate. AG seldom disappoint. If you do then let me know how it works for you@@Richard_L_Y
Hi Martin, I see your substituted AutoGlym bottle still had an AutoGlym label on it. How have you done this?
Hello Paul, I just peeled the label off the original bottle and stuck it to my one
Would you recommend this for a winter protection?
I know I've asked about wax in another video, the thing is that this if the first time I've have a really nice car and I want to get it right.
Many thanks
I don’t see this as a winter protection product Dave, this is a product that you would apply after every wash to enhance the protection already applied. So as an example after washing the car and applying Soft99 “King of Gloss” wax I would then apply Autoglym Aqua Wax after every other wash through winter. Hope that helps if not I’m here
Just been giving your approach a little thought and have you thought of using just Autoglym products as a starting point. They are easily available and proven quality. Super resin will cover light swirls and then topped with extra gloss. You can then top up after every wash with aqua wax. All three products available from Halfords. Just a thought and trying to keep it simple 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Thank you for your replies. I'm going to bob down to Halfords today to see if I can pick up those products. I get discount there too with being in a Jaguar club.
Many thanks for your time and thoughtfulness
@@Drone626 just glad to be of help Dave, we all started somewhere mate. Let me know how you get on with whatever products you end up getting. Happy detailing 👍
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer Just thought I'd let you know that I ended up buying Siramik SC mist and applied it to the Jaguar at the weekend. Easy to apply and buff off. It says you get up to 6 months protection but time will tell. Makes the paintwork look incredible though
Dave
Can we use this for a matte car
to be honest Im not sure mate, best ask Autoglym. Ive never worked on matt paintwork sorry
Good result but its something ive never used so i will give it a go.
It really is a good product and worth a try when the drying aid you use needs to be replaced. I think its as good as any product on the market for the job it does
Great video Martin 👌 where do you get your hoodies from? Are they available?
Cheers Grant, I tried to get the hoodies for resale but Im not interested in ripping people off and that's exactly what the manufactures are geared up to do so I told them to poke it🤷♂️
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer thanks for the response Martin, respect to you for doing that. 👍 Keep up the good work
Martin - mind wandering? - you ?
its all it ever does nowadays mate🤷♂
Hi Martin. In your experience what would be a good alternative to Aqua Wax, something that’s easy to use, gives some protection, but has more slickness; I notice that my car still gets very dusty after using it. I currently use Aqua Wax after every wash, but would like to use something different when this runs out. Anything you could recommend would be much appreciated. So many products and I’m finding it hard to decide! Thanks and love your channel👍
Hello Anthony, thank you for your kind words. My favourite product to use as a drying aid is Garage Therapy 2 Quick Detailer. It gives limited protection (a couple of weeks) but leaves the surface silky smooth. I use it on my bike, my crash helmet and the car. The other product I like to use is P&S Bead Maker. Hope that is of some help. countydetailingsupplies.co.uk/product/garage-therapy-two-quick-detailer/
