Easy way round the Autoglym bottle holding conundrum....loosen the trigger screw collar a few turns, rotate the trigger approx 30deg to the right or left if your southpaw and tighten back down. Fits the hand perfectly now 👍🏻

After doing all the tests you have done, I feel revisiting the price point to give back the point to Autoglym, as if you need twice as much to make as hydrophobic and it doesnt last as long then your use more product making megs a more expensive product overall. Just a thought and great video john keep up the good work.

Interesting point: i think it's good to compare products based on price per mL, and also based on amount of product needed or used. Some product need to be layered thicc and some might require only a mist per panel. But it becomes more difficult to quantify this part.
In the end, i think it's just two different products with different goals. Meg cer detailer seems to be a good drying aid on a ceramic coating (from experience of different youtuber) and a decent (but much expensive) quick detailer with added ceramic.
Autoglym looks more like a standalone protection for a couple of months, or a topper for the autoglym cer coating.

I bought the AutoGlym product on back of this. Applied to my dry car which recently had a ceramic coating applied. Buffing product off was very easy, far easier than I thought. Left a great finish.

First time I use AG Rapid Ceramic spray blown away at both how quick and easy to apply it was and also the glass like finish it has left on my car. As a weekend warrior I love it. I used it after using AG Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss Protection. Just to see if it would work despite it not actually bonding with the paintwork. It worked. Really slick smooth finish.

Late to the show but I use both for different purposes. Megs is great for adding some extra gloss and to remove any smears or fingerprints left over. The Autoglym is far more durable and seems to provide a wetter gloss to the paintwork IMO and I use it to boost ceramic coatings. Without sounding critical surely it would be better to compare Autoglym to megs hybrid ceramic wax as they are both the same category? Great video as usual 👍🏻

Wow Autoglym really smashed it in this one.
From my experience the meguiars ceramic detailer works best as a top up for in between waxing. On its own it adds minimal protection that only lasts a week. But it worked great for reviving my old “dead” paste wax. Really easy to use and shiny as well. But will have to try that Autoglym next time

I have used Aqua Wax and now Rapid Ceramic Spray interchangeably on my car, just testing what's best for me. I have recently been hammered by salt spreader, and the sandy residue came off the paint without my intervention as soon as it rained, leaving the car fantastically clean. Now I don't know which of the 2 products did the trick.... However, Aqua Wax is much easier to apply on a wet car. The ceramic one did not feel like it was protecting the car that well (subjective) , and I felt like drying the car prior to application was the best way to go. This meant much, much more work ! I think I am going to stick to aqua wax for now, but considering hard wax at least once every 3 months.

Since the early 90's i've simply used Auto Glym Wash, Super Resin, and their bumper & rubber products - and wash/polish every couple of weeks - and I've literally had people asking me how i keep my cars so clean & shiny
I like the ease of AG product use justifies their slightly higher asking price
When complete strangers give compliments - that's a good enough endorsement to continue to use the brand
Ive Never 'defected' to other brands - although I'm open to genuine recommendations, from people to try as comparison

I went to the websites for both products and Meguiars basically describes theirs as cleaner with SiO2 added to enhance protection while Autoglym describes theirs as a ceramic spray that bonds to paint. I believe a better comparison would be use the Meguiars M27 Hybrid Ceramic Sealant vs the Autoglym Rapid Ceramic Spray.

I have used both. Megs is one of the best "detailers" i have used. Autoglym i think is a "spray Sealant". Rapid ceramic i think is a similar idea to quick wax...A thicker layer of megs may change the tests, especially durability gloss and waterbeading. Great video tho. Great to see logical thinking around testing products. its not all, "lets throw some apc at it"

Do prefer the Megs bottle for ease of use, agree does look better, similar to Mothers and Carlack, quality trigger sprays too. Just tried some Infinity Wax products the triggers are very poor. Like you say though the Autoglym bottles are part of their heritage I first bought them in the ‘80s and they are basically the same as then.

I wasn't in love with the Meguiars. It doesn't leave the slickest panel feel, and even working in a shop, spraying sparingly into an applicator, I got some visible streaking on some bare black paints. It's in kind of a unique zone. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of both a heavier sealant, and detailer spray.
For me, as a professional, a detail spray just cannot streak. I can't micromanage application and Scangrip every inch of every panel everytime for a quick detailer. So it's not something I reach for, but still a capable quality product for what it is.
Technician's Choice 582 Ceramic Detail Spray, at under $30 per *gallon* 😲 has been the best all around pick for me. Versatile, fast and easy, flashes quickly with a clean removal, durability in months not just weeks.
Insanely hard to beat that, but I'm always testing new stuff. I'm in the U.S. so haven't tried Autoglym. Thank you for the video my dude! 👍✌

Having used Autoglym products when living in the UK, Germany and now Canada for the last 8 years and using both Autoglym wins hands down. A buddy and I had a clean off, he swore by maguire's til I showed him what Autoglym is made of. We both had similar coloured cars at the time, my Chrysler 300s with clay-bar followed by super resin then HD wax, finished with high definition gloss left her spotless. Buddy did his usual on his Merc waterless wash, clay-bar with mother's products, meg spray wax followed by the ceramic wax. The standard was nowhere near Autoglym, I find the meg products look cheap and not good value (my personal experience) I have over (roughly) $400 of Autoglym products and will hands down pull better results than any other product, providing you follow the instructions, plus the bottles make them look more professional laid out on a shelf. My buddy has now changed to Autoglym, he thought I just bought them because of the Union Flag til I showed him the standard of the contents.

John I'd have to agree with you on the packaging. The Meguiars is definitely a "sexier" looking product. But with products like TW Dry & Shine - Blue bottle are these sprays a bit overpriced for longevity, if you won't get an actual ceramic coating?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  3 года назад +2

yes. But put it this way a pack of fags is like 13 quid nowadays. Petrol. Cup of cofee is like 3 quid. pint of lager 5-6 quid some places. The market price for ceramic sprays seems to be like 15-20 quid for 500ml. If the market was not confortable with this price then the sellers in this market would need to lower the price. So whats expensive is subjective for sure. But in the UK we have the full smorgesburg of options price wise :)

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 3 года назад

You still get quite a bit of coverage out of the generously sized bottles. Especially if you apply it spraying into an applicator instead of directly on the panel or spray and rinse.
But yeah, you can still find better values. I buy Technician's Choice 582 Ceramic Detail Spray by the gallon. Absurd value for the money, very good product. Don't know if you guys have access to it outside of the U.S. though. 👍✌

Just to add balance on the packaging. I found the Maguires packaging a little 'cheap' looking. Reminds of a bathroom or kitchen cleaner product. End of the day. It's how the product performs that matters.

  • @pinno713

A bit of background. Picked up a BMW and the usual showroom tricks were applied to the paintwork. After washing properly, it was revealing to say the least. Decided to go the Ceramic route after prepping and correcting scratches, swirls and stone chips.
It was my first foray into Ceramic coating and opted for a rapid coat rather than the more extreme long term Ceramic as this was partly experimental.
Previously, I have used waxes and sealants from Kiwami Fusso Soft 99, Bilt Hamber double speed wax, Bilt Hamber Auto Finesse, Chemical guys black light to the very underrated Sonax colour wax (they did a Carnauba version - avoid like the plague). My favourite has to be the Chemical guys. I find it difficult to apply, almost as if the paint needs a Clay Bar but oh see easy and satisfying to buff.
So I am always wary: easy to apply does not always equal good product and I am continually disappointed with the Meguiars products. Their rubbing compound is pants IMHO. I prefer the 3 step 3M or Turtle wax premium rubbing compound.
The ease of application of the BH double speed wax is incredible but only on pristine paintwork. The Auto Finesse is a remarkable product.
So, first up was to wash and clay bar the BMW. The clay bar was a Meguiars and by the end, it was mulch, falling to bits and left some debris in and around nooks and crannies. I will stick to the BH one - it's far superior. I was sold the Meguiars pack - the detail/ceramic spray and the clay bar combined.
The car took 2 washes to remove the white milk residue from the clay bar. It was a PITA. The Meguiars ceramic coat for me. although easy to apply, I found much harder to get a consistent depth/buff on the paintwork.
Cue the Auto glym. Harder to work with. More sensitive to temperature but much better to buff and less streak free (I liken Ceramic to glass cleaning - you know, you think it's smear and streak free but then you see it at a different angle and...).
The other thing I noticed was that you could widen your application area before curing and buffing. Also, it states in the distructions (yes, I actually read them) that a second coat not long after the fist coat was possible and perhaps this video should have included that.
As another commentator remarked: another Auto Glym to the collection. I love their Vinyl and Rubber care, the Interior shampoo especially, the resin polish in certain applications. The Leather cleaner is good but the Leather care balm I think, needs to be a touch less viscous but I wouldn't look to anything else for leather care.
Should I now take the plunge and apply a long term Ceramic coating...?

It's a great product, so much so that I don't need to go the full nine yards and - cut - polish - wax. every four months.. One thing I have noticed is that though, is that it's easy to overload a panel with this product, which leaves a strange dark smearing. I think you talked about this in a previous video of yours. WOW, guys buy products that are the best in their field, like a quick detailer I go with megs, iron remover I use autoglym magma, degreaser I use bowdens orange agent, and so on and so forth. Keep it up forensic

Have you thought about buying liquid clay ( magma in 5l bottle works out lot cheaper ,I wouldn't buy any 500ml fall out remover for 10 quid ,very expensive ,I'm currently buying 5l autosmart red 7 ,awesome stuff at 29 quid for 5L

Liked the video due to the effort always made.
But shouldn't you of used the meguiars ceramic spray wax (it's a blue bottle) instead as it's a better comparison than the detailer you used in the video?

These seem to be two different kinds of product. The Meguiars is a detailer that is to be used over an existing ceramic coated car. It looks like the Autoglym is a Ceramic protective product.

The reality is that the Maguiers assumes that you've used the ceramic spray wax beforehand. The Auotglym is somewhere between the two. I actually use both and on my very well protected cars they work very well and I trust both. On the packaging Autoglym really don't need the razzmatazz of the green bottle etc their brand says it all.

Detailer? Ugh ... I just can't get past spraying a product on a DIRTY car and wiping it off. To be honest, I would use either one. I happen to use the Megs Detailer, because that was the video of the day. I use the AutoGlym (on your recommendation) tire dressing and found it to be EXCELLENT. In the race for the better mouse trap, do you think we might be OVERTHINKING all of these products a bit? Geeze, they all go on in about 10 or 15 minutes and are hydrophobic as hell. They all work! I don't think you could go wrong with either product if I'm honest.

Love ur videos! But the meguiars is a spray detailer and the autoglym is a spray sealant so its obvious that the autoglym is a winner in beading and slickness etc

yes but to be fair we made this exact point in the video. I wasnt sure what the Rapid Ceramic Spray was from autoglym because its new, so I sort of learn about it that its not a ceramic detailer its more like a ceramic spray sealant.

I use HCW for a foundation layer and every time it starts to degrade I use the HCD and it does indeed bring back the HCWs durability and hydrophobic effects, even if I don’t wash my car for 6+ weeks driving it in salty roads on the Blackpool promenade everyday to work and back 👍

Makes you wonder what is the point of topping up protection if it just wears away again in two washes. Maybe if you just want to stall out a reapplication of a stronger sealant a bit longer?

I’m going to be getting a rug doctor deep clean machine for my house carpet cleaning. Have you used surfex HD for a task like this? Surfex HD is a great cleaner/degreaser and I was wondering if it could be used for something like this?

Very interesting, i was really looking forwards to this Autoglym Ceramic Spray review. However i just wish you had compared it to something more similar as you say Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray would be a more direct competitor - mainly because i already have the TW product and don't really enjoy the user experience that much even though the results are great. Best wishes.

I keep all my stuff in a big plastic box and much prefer the Autoglym bottle as its square shape with flat sides means they slot in next to each other. The Meguiars shaped type of bottles waste a lot of storage space.

keen to see how the AG product fares against TW Ceramic Spray or Sealant Wax and AMD Hybrid Sealant or Detailer. As you say Jon, HCD does need to build up layers and does complement a HDW base layer.
