This has come at a perfect time 4 me,thanks so much,I've just been gifted 6 old tea chests full of fabrics and old linens ,so looking for loads of recycle ideas, I've been doing some weaving with the not so great coloured pieces and not so great patterns lol but I'm on a mission to use up all this awsome fabric.
Use an old pillowcase!!! Half sewed! Well explained. Soap is great for marking - no stains!! I clip the point of the plastic studs off after putting through the fabric!!!
Hello I’m new to sewing and have just made this. I quilted it to learn a new technique. It has turned out really well. Thank you so much for your clear and non scary tutorial! 🩵
Thank you so much! I have learned so much from you, and now have an awesome serger mat! I added a tiny basket with a snap to the side to collect my clips. thank you so much!!!
This is a wonderful idea. What I like most about it is that the weight of the sewing machine keeps the thread catcher/caddy from falling off the table. Plus, it wouldn't take much effort to make a sewing machine dust cover to match the mat and thread catcher/caddy.
👏💡👏💡👏💡 This is brilliant!! I have seen a LOT of sewing machine pads, but never one with snaps. That makes it so much easier to empty scraps and threads! Ingenious!!
Thanks so much for sharing, specially that gorgeous view. If I had a view like that I would never want to leave my studio. Thanks again so much for sharing!👍
Thank you for this tutorial Christine. I am looking for ways to make things easier on my hands and back as I have arthritis in both areas. My machine is too heavy for me to lift at the moment so this is perfect for my needs. It also saves me trying to lean over to toss things in the bin as I sew and the floor cleanup after sewing. Thank you!!!
Another genius project Christine, I absolutely love this. Thank you for your time and expertise and sharing a clip of your gorgeous leafy oasis with us.
I am going to make at make me this mat and thread catcher, I am a sloppy sewer sometimes. But I love sewing and creating. I will modify this to make it fit my brain,I am sure you understand that. I have made some of the zipper pouches out of the one-piece of material. Tried all of the styles and even changed the dimensions. Let me apologize in advance for not watching all of the ads. Some of them are just false and I refuse to watch them. Will watch what I can. Am selling at a local Farmers Market right now and when I get some health problems straightened out I may expand to other platforms. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love this, having just got a new machine I feel a new mat coming on. Love the sprinklers . We’re in a drought and just watching the ‘rain’ would be lovely.
Really like your ideas! I love using snaps, your so creative. Also, You should consider a short meditation video of your plants with the sprinklers on. If I looked out at that, I might not get any sewing done. 😂😂 it was so relaxing, thanks for sharing it with us!
Another great tutorial, Christine. I've been thinking about doing something like this, especially for the trash. I end up with all these little threads and they go on the floor or over beside my machine. Just not nice, so this is wonderful. I share all your ideas/tutorials with my sister and a friend. They really appreciate them too. Thank you and have a great day.
Thank you so much Karen. I used to use these under my domestic machines all the time. I actually miss having them. I must design one for my industrial machine as I tend to just throw everything on the floor 🤣
Oooo I love this. Simple and so needed right now. I’m participating in a sew a thon and have thread all over my floor😂 Thank you for a great tutorial 💖
I really like this. I have been given a pile of batting but it isn't fusible. What would be the best way to use that instead. Will it be enough just to sew it in with the outsides? Another one for the to do list 😂
Thanks Sarah. You could try using basting spray to adhere the batting to the fabric, or you can quilt it. Unless you stitch the batting into the seam, it is likely to drop after time😀
That is brilliant,I don’t know how I have sewn without one, going to make one tomorrow morning.Thank you so much,I have learnt so much watch your videos.May I ask,if you have any ideas for bowl or pot covers,as we use so much cling film covering our food.I know it’s not like the items you make, but you have such great ideas.Thank you
Thank you Eve. I do plan on making bowl covers. Just haven't had time yet. Need a few more days in the week to catch up on everyone's fabulous suggestions. 😁
Good idea! I might use velcro on mine instead of the snaps as that's what I have on hand.
That's a fabulous idea!! I use velcro for so may things, yet I didn't even consider it this time 😁🤣

Haha. I did a separate matching dust cover too Arvetta. That's for another video 😄😄
👏💡👏💡👏💡
This is brilliant!! I have seen a LOT of sewing machine pads, but never one with snaps. That makes it so much easier to empty scraps and threads! Ingenious!!
Thanks Rhonda. I love that I can just snap the bag off to empty it. So simple and quick 😀
Thank you for this great pattern. Also thank you for turning the sound off when you are sewing. Your videos are very watchable.
Thanks Virginia. The machines can certainly be noisy at times. 😀
Beautiful view from your sewing space ❤️
Thank you. I do love it out there 😀
Thank you for sharing your projects and directions! You are the best!
You are so welcome Smiley. Thank you 😀

It’s very cute! I have a granddaughter turning 10years old in October. I think I’ll make her this project for her birthday!!
That sounds like a lovely idea Valerie 😃
Brilliant! Great way to reuse old fabric. Thanks and very timely Christine.
It sure is. I've been wanting to use this fabric for a few years now. It's finally come in handy 😀
I've been going to make one of these for years! Thank you Christine for the push to get me to make one today. I love your videos! 😍🍍
Thanks Ann. Did you finish it?😁😁
Brilliant idea. im always covered in threads, even though i do try to keep a bin beside me, will deff be making one of these. Thank You x
Go for it Avril 😀
What a beauty! I’ve moved and have virtually no net and my sewing space is all in boxes, can’t wait to make this!
It sure is handy Jenny 😁

You are so welcome Donna. It's certainly easier emptying a small bag of scraps than it is to find the bin each time. I always miss!! 😁
Very useful design to create this in two pieces! It’ll be perfect for my “traveling” machine. Thank you
It'll be great for travelling Cyn 😀
I like the detachable bottom . Thanks , great info as usual 😊
Thank you Bonnie 😀

You're very welcome Sara. I usually skip the adds when I can. I am still a sloppy sewer at times. Just have fun and enjoy yourself 😀
This is such a great idea, I’ll look forward to the dust cover video. Thank you for showing us your view, so relaxing.
Thanks Debbie. The cover won't be long at all 😀
I love this, having just got a new machine I feel a new mat coming on. Love the sprinklers . We’re in a drought and just watching the ‘rain’ would be lovely.

I need this!
They're so useful Georgy 😀
Great tutorial! Please can I ask, what machine foot are you using?
Was it yellow Anna? It's possible it was my Teflon foot for vinyl. I often just leave it on😃
