    Thanks so much for this great idea, my sewing room has never been tidier! One thing I have changed is to use some scrap vinyl to make the back and the inner basket. This means that all scraps and cottons just slide in really easily and can be emptied without anything sticking to the sides. It’s so lovely my whole sewing group now have made at least one, sometimes two so each machine/serger has its own! Thanks again!

    Omg!!!!! I love this so much! I got a Baby Lock serger a few years back. It came with a trim bin that attached to the front of the serger that broke immediately. I had to purchase a Baby Lock “Serger Trim Bin” from the shop I bought it from. It’s so ugly. It’s a huge rectangle of plastic that your serger sits on and a tiny rectangle opening where you lock in place a clear thin plastic bag. Did it come with extra bags? Nope! Have I damaged the plastic bag? Somehow, no. Have I considered making a new bag that would sit inside this rectangle? Yes! While I was looking at my serger tonight I realized that no fabric would probably fit unless it was a chiffon. I accidentally found this video and I’m so glad I did! (Sorry, that was a long winded comment 😂). I cannot wait to make this! This has been added to my growing list of projects I want to work on!

      The idea came from one I had with my very first serger and did not last long at all! So I totally get the “do I want to make something to fix it or replace it? Nah! Maybe later!” Vibes. 🤣🤣🤣

    I made one according to the updated measurements. I tweaked it a little. I added plastic mesh instead of cardboard and a single layer of adhesive foam stabilizer instead of two layers of interfacing. Came out great! I only wish that I could share a photo of it, but I don't know how.

    I’m so excited to make this. I’ve attempted to cut fabric out twice for this project and keep screwing up because I guess the math just isn’t adding up to me. My serger seems to be larger than yours is. it’s 12.6 inches long and 11 inches deep. I was going to cut the fabric 12.5 inches long but then I’m all screwed up on how big I need to cut the fabric for the bin. I’m just so lost. I wish the video or the instructions had a bit more details. 😓
    Edit - looking at the measurements for the normal and smaller option makes me even more confused. None of it makes sense. The original size basic pieces are 4.5 inches longer than the width of the back. And for the small one it’s 6 inches larger.I’m even more confused than I was to begin with 😓 well, my sewing for the night has been cut short. I hate when my brain hurts when I’m trying to craft 😂 it’s a beautiful trim bin and I’d love to make one!

      I hate over thinking my projects! Take a deep breath and let me think this through for you. First, my catcher is the larger size but it doesn’t fully cover the entire length and width of my machine. It does sit comfortably under the feet on the base of the machine to hold it in place. Second, I went ahead and measured my machine for comparison. It’s 13.5” Deep and 13” Wide. So mine is actually slightly larger than yours. Which means the width is about 2.5” shorter than my machine’s width & about 5” shorter than the depth. So if you’re ok with it not covering the entire width, then you should be good to go with the larger size. However if you prefer to cover the entire body width and depth, I think 22”x12.5” for the backing and 11”x17” for the basket should do the trick. This will give you the larger and deeper basket. Keep in mind that 11” is the height of the basket & 22” is the length of the entire thing. Let me know if this makes sense to you. :-)

      Mine does not move at all. The weight keeps it still. You could always use a gripper fabric like something you’d use on slippers if it needs a little added stability.

    I am trying to make the shallower version and the backing measurements are incorrect. It should be more like 8 x 18 or 19 depending on your serger. At 15 inches that only gives less than 4 inches to go under the serger. Maybe you could revisit the PDF and review the shallower version measurements. I’m not even sure I have the 8 inch measurement correct but I do know 5 x 15 is way too narrow and way too short. I haven’t tried the full size basket and I think I have the updated PDF. Please let me know your thoughts on the backing size for the shallower version. I’m trying to make this for a Christmas gift and now I’m stuck. Thanks for your time and willingness to share.

    The basket is the 11 x14 and the backing is the 18 x 9.5 , Not sure why she hasn't gone back and changed it or made corrections on this video or the pattern that there is a link too....lol I wasted alot of interfacing making it the first time...until I went back and made a correct version using the 11 x 14 as the basket measurements and the 18 x 9.5 as the backing...Good Luck

      Marietta, I just followed the video and the written pattern too, all to find out what you've stated above. I am just going to make my backing piece longer to accommodate the "18" x 9.5" basket" that I've already created that looks really nice😂

    I think this is great. Can I ask where does the cardboard sit? Is it under the machine or is it the catcher please

    • @TheLiterarySewist
      @TheLiterarySewist  2 года назад +1

      Yep! It sits under the machine for stability. You could skip it if you wanted but to me the cardboard helps keep things steady and absorbs vibrations.

      @@TheLiterarySewist and does the cardboard go on the basket end of the mat, or the mat side that goes under your machine? Also do you have a suggestion besides cardboard to make the mat waterproof? That way it can be washed

    • @TheLiterarySewist

      @@kimberlymelendez7667 It goes in at the top part that sits under the machine. You could double interface it and skip the cardboard. Or cut down a thin cutting mat. Like the cheap ones that roll up. I’ve seen them at the dollar store so it would be a cheap solution.
