This happened to me. I have a iPad Air 5 I bought a year before I got a cricut maker. I never use a computer so my old MacBook Pro is efficient enough for the two times a year I might need a computer to do something. But it was too old to run design space. Had no idea the iPad version of design space was so limited. Bought all the attachments for my maker 3 like the foil and knife blade only to discover I couldn’t use them with my iPad. So yesterday after watching a ton of videos I just decided to go out to Best Buy and get the new MacBook Pro M3. I have to say it’s sooo much better than using cricut design space on the iPad. The iPad version would crash a lot especially if I had a bunch of duplicates of something. It was also so slow. And it had nothing to do with my iPad or WiFi it was just the poorly designed app. For the most part it was bearable in the beginning until I started doing a lot more advanced things. I obviously didn’t NEED to buy a $1600 MacBook just for design space… even though I did… but that was just my preference.

Angie, here are some Windows comments. Though Design Space will run on an I3 or lower pc with 4 gig of memory, I recommend at least an I5 with 8gig of memory if you don't want to wait around for your screen to refresh. And I recommend a 1 terrabyte HD unless you aren't going to run any other graphics software on your PC, in which you'll get away with a 500g drive for quite a while. Just as important is having backup - get a 128 or 256gb thumb drive, and back all your work files up periodically. If your HD dies, you can always reinstall your software, but your work files could be lost forever. (And don't count on the Cloud, even Cricut's Cloud - their policies change all the time. In fact, I save any .svg files I download or create even after I've imported the into Design Space, just as an additional safeguard. Not that everyone NEEDS a "juiced" system, but if you plan to use the computer for other things, or hope that it suits your needs for a few years, then DON'T buy the minimum. And NEVER neglect backups.
I have addressed this in the comments before. This is mainly for people looking for the LOWEST cost alternative to run their Cricut. This is not for anyone looking to use their PC for other purposes.

Found your video very informative. Thanks. However, don't know if this has been mentioned before but just a note that I thought you said the minimum internet speed you should have for your Cricut machine is like 2-3 megabytes download speed. Internet speed is often very confusing as it's not stated in terms of Megabytes/ per second but rather in terms of Megabits/ per sec. A Megabit is only 1/8 of a Megabyte. So as you can see if you needed 2-3 Megabytes/sec of internet speed you would actually have to have 8x 2-3 Megabits of speed or 16-24 Megabits of internet speed.
@@AngieHolden here is the recommendation from Cricut: Broadband connection Minimum 2 - 3 Mbps Download Minimum 1 - 2 Mbps Upload So your number was correct, but the stated terminology was the problem. 2-3 Mbps is OK but that means 2-3 Megabits/sec speed, and not 2-3 Megabytes speed, which is what can be heard clearly stated as the needed speed in the video which is 8x the required Megabits speed. Hope that helps explain the difference 🙂
I just placed an order for my cricut a few days ago. I'm sure you have a lot of things to do, but i'm not a computer genius by any means. LOL If I sent you a link on here to a laptop i'm thinking about getting, would you mind looking at it and seeing if it reaches the requirements? I know you've literally explained it word for word...but the specs don't give me everything you've mentioned. 😅

Yep, my Chrome book has definitely not given me all that I'm told I should be able to do. When I can afford to, I'll upgrade to a new PC because mine is too old to be effective.
My iPad makes me sad. I create most designs on my pc, then walk downstairs to print from the iPad. When I need to reprint any old designs, half of my design groups reject for print because "iPad can't recognize patterns". I don't really use the patterns that much so it can get frustrating trying to figure out which one has a pattern causing it to reject. I can't even edit the "pattern" away. Back upstairs to the PC. ERF.
Angie thanks. Do HELP us linux / chrome book and non windows users to convince cricut to create EVEN just an online app... We use Linux Manjaro in all our computers and wouldn't want to regress, degenerate, or fall back to Windows or Mac. They're very limiting and unproductive.

I just want to note that I have a Lenovo Chromebook and the Cricut design space app does work, well for the most part. It is now Jan 2022, so hopefully they will make this more compatible as time goes on. The options a very minimal with the Chromebook app, like you stated off set and blade are not an option. I can't even use my company logo which is why I bought the Cricut! Ugh. Even tried it on my Android phone and the same issues...So disappointing. I will be looking for a inexpensive windows laptop now.
@@AngieHolden My Acer Chromebook works with it also, but again, there are several fancy options that are not available, but, the minimum works for me, I only do minimal operations with my minimal "Joy" machine. I'm happy with it all for now.
I have a Mac and was doing fine until the last update of Cricut. Since August I have not been able to log into design space because of issues with Mac and Cricut. I get a constant white screen, have checked everything it tells me to check. I have called Cricut support several times and was told they have no solution as of now but working on it. So if I don’t buy another laptop/computer I have a machine I can’t access. I am so unhappy they can’t resolve this issue.

They should be more obvious about their Cricut's NOT being compatible with Chromebooks. All they say is "to be used with Windows or Macs." They should be very obvious on the Cricut boxes about not being compatible with Chromebooks.

It may be that you have run out of room, try cleaning anything you don't use off of your hard drive. You can even buy an external hard drive and move some of your files to it.
Wish my computer/laptop had a touch screen. Think it meets all the requirements for my CRICUT. Figure at some point in time, I'll have to get an external storage device.
You can use an external hard drive to store the files to use with your machine. There really isn't anything that would be on an external drive that the Cricut would need to be compatible with.

I have a Chromebook which minimally operates the Design Space but if I need to do anything fancy, I have borrowed a Windows 10 laptop and can use it to design more elaborate designs, but the Windows laptop will not "find" the Joy machine even though it does have bluetooth - so I have to design on the Windows laptop and then come in the bedroom on the Chromebook to open Design space on it and cut to the Joy machine from the design I made on the Windows laptop - go figure that one out! I design on the Windows Laptop and cut from the Chromebook laptop! LOL, such fun!

Hello I have a android galaxy s6 tablet I downloaded the design space it doesn't show all of the features. It says cut and print not supported with a android tablet.
You can use the iPad pro with your Cricut but you will be missing some of the features. A computer is the only device that will have all of the features.

If you buy a computer based off of her PC specs , You're going to be pissed off because you'll be VERY limited on what you can do. Anything less than a quad core PC( 4 cores) is just stupid AND less than 8 gigabytes ( of RAM ) . Also the image files are NOT small ( and will add up over time ) , SO I would get ATLEAST a 1 terabyte ssd ( hard drive )

I have people all of the time that are looking for a really inexpensive PC to operate a Cricut. Yes you can. Put the flash drive in then open up like file explorer and move them over to your flash drive.

Fyi.. chromebook does work with circut you just have to open in your play store.

You would just need to compare individual models with the specifications on the Cricut website.

I just picked up a hp 14 laptop but I can’t download Cricut design space app. It has Ann dual core,4 gb memory,64 gb storage and s-mode.
That is because it is in Smode. You have to turn that off first.

A touch screen is nice but definitely more! And an external hard drive can be a life saver!

The Joy has to have bluetooth. Try typing into your search bar in the bottom left "bluetooth" and see if anything comes up!

You can only use Design Space for your Cricut machine.
Can just crone alone work? Not cronebook.
The Chrome browser on a regular computer or laptop is fine. A Chromebook is a type of laptop that will not work.
