So basically, they want you to pay for more useless lessons. If anything, it should be the Non-CDL population that should complete ELDT.
Sounds alot like an extortion fee
@@yeshua1176 scream it louder!!!
Agreed. Another way of stealing our money.
AND commercial drivers are held to a higher standard, and pay more for tuckers even in their own cars.
WHY
Bro you are so correct 💯 they just want more money 💰
Did not know this until I went to go get my endorsement for hazard and they told me this. This is stupid for someone already holding a CDL already wanting endorsements. Now I gotta pay more money. I regret not getting them when I first got my CDL.
Thank youuu ! For the info .
VERY NICE VIDEO #PUNJABTRUCKDRIVINGSCHOOL
ELDT sounds like something we actually need for everyone who wants a driver’s license to drive automobiles, motorcycles, or both, but how the hell does the FMCSA and DOT plan to “combat the truck/bus driver shortage” if they keep making it harder to get a CDL???
There is no shortage of drivers. We are over populated.
So after being a Truck Driver for 6 years with a clean record. I have to take a class before I can test for my hazmat?
Really came through man. They are lost at the DMV. Thank you sir.
When this was rolled out everyone was lost. I work at the DPS DL office in Tx. No one could clarify this to us. We literally had to do our own research.
@@GiGi-fb8hp facts. Took me forever just to find any useful information
So basically all eldt is is a "prelude" before your road exam?
Thanks for the info you explains that perfectly, really informative 👍🏽
Happy to do it! Thanks for tuning in!
This Man gave me more answers then those sloths at the dmv, I SUBSCRIBED🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I wish that the FMCSA job hiring requirement would be they have to be CDL holder themselves with 3-5 years of actual driving experience.
Is eldt worth it I already getting help of one of them
So CLP , Then ELDT Theory , Then driving school >>>??
Yet... Mr. Bob and Mrs. Betty, that have never driven anything larger than a prius, just retired and have purchased themselves a 1 ton dually and a 42ft triple axle toy hauler, have decided to hit the open road don't need any training whatsoever. I'm all for training and education. Hauling heavy is nothing to take lightly or joke around with. But dang it!!!!!! All of this seems backwards.
the 80% pass.... is that a test from the training provider or the state issued knowledge test?
Training provider.
Thanks every site is so vague about training for just hazmat.
If i had my hazmat endorsement way back in 2005 and didn't renew it. Do i still need to take the eldt Hazmat course?
So instead of solving driver deficit in the market. They just made a rule , that made getting CDL 10x harder.
This is why I say the entire department is a joke
This shit was passed in 2012 and kept getting pushed back. But yea the timing was fucking impeccable, I have to pay 5,000 to the school I went to or they won't report that I completed my course. So now I have a CDL I can't use and I'm 5000 in debt.
@@ShazzledWolf32 yeap
@@CherryBlossomOhka what school was it this shit is ridiculous
and more expensive too.
Can I get my permit before completing any eldt training?
Thanks for all the info Brandon !! You're doing a Great Job Brother 🤝👏 Just please SLOW DOWN just a bit so we (the viewer's) can soak up the information .... 😆 Again you're doing a fantastic job though brother keep bringin it !!
Lots to say and not a lot of time to say it, lol! We’ll try and slow it down in future videos.
It will just be more watch time for you if you made your video a minute or 2 longer but it adds up quickly ...
Short and fast is better…there is a pause button for those that are on the slow side. 😅
I got my class A two years ago does that mean I have to do the training to add my hazmat and doubles
Yep.
So if I'm just renewing my A and hazmat I dont need this or the hazmat theory?
Nice vid! Quick question...im from NY, been driving school buses for over 10 yrs (CDL class B with air breaks, passenger, school bus endorsements) and am thinking if switching to driving Hazmat tankers ...is it true that i woukd have yo take dome type if behind the wheel training how to drive tankers before i take my Hazmat written test at the DMV?
I passed my hazmat and tanker at DMV . I understand that eldt but is it a training video or more test
Do I need to take this course prior to doing the combination endorsement test to get my A permit? I already have every endorsements there is including doubles/triples my permit expired 4/7/22. Just wondering
SAME BOAT BUDDY!
Do you know how long it takes the fmsca to respond back,to get the go ahead to take a hazmat test? I completed my ELDT yesterday, today I heard maybe 45 days for the ok to take test
If my company is willing to pay for the school should I just do that? This is really confusing I have my clp it’s really easy. But now this new rule fucked it all up for me
So I'm a bit confused on a few things. First do I need a CLP in order to take the ELDT or does this basically do away with the whole CLP? Is a DOT med card needed to do the ELDT or does that come after you have completed the ELDT? The whole thing is just poorly setup and if it is working the way that I think it does wouldn't this make it easier to get a CDL-A from a mega carrier and ride out the year contract then.
You’ll still need a CLP since you’ll be operating on public roads during the behind-the-wheel portion of the training. You need a med card to get the CLP.
@@Trucksafe so I need to get a clp, then take the 2 classes then go in for my cdl?
Correct.
@@Trucksafe Thankyou for clearing that up. In illinois it’s not 100% clear. It looks like next week I’m going to take my CLP test and then sign up for the classes once I pass.
Just looked over the stuff needed to pass the ELDT and I have to say it seems very light on what needs to be learned. The theory part could be 2-3 and someone should be good enough to pass it at 80%, oddly enough it seems like a lot of the same stuff you given in the CLP test honestly. The behind the wheel time could fill in 2 weeks, so at minimum a new driver could have a CLD-A in less than 3 weeks. Is it good or bad doing this way I'm not sure, but it feels rushed.
Got a question if u have CLP and Eldt pass can U take the Hazmat test at the DMW LOCATIONS??Thank you!
I think you should be able to I just did where i live just call them and check.
Question. so how can one get the behind the wheel portion of this new thing done if they don't have the time to do it? I start a job with a electric co-op Monday and they want me to get a CDL but what I'm seeing is I have to go to the CDL school now and I can't afford to take 5 weeks off to get that school done so what can I do to get my CDL?
Good question...no great answers, unfortunately. The regulations don't set any mandatory minimum time for the BTW training, so you may just have to shop around for a trainer whose course is less involved. They definitely exist. Doesn't have to be a school. You can search for them at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
If i got my CDL S license...would this speed up the process in getting my cdl restricted a license?
So can i do the hazmat training 100% online? Or will i need fisical training ass well
If all you need is the hazmat endorsement, it can be done online.
@@Trucksafe im following, im looking into gettin my X and doubles/triples. Do this new rule bypass me having to go to the dmv to take the hazmat test or it will allow me to take the test once i finish this new training?
Still will have to go take the test at the DMV once you finish your training.
Question: I downgraded like 3 years ago my CDL to DL. Now I want to get my CDL back in another state(TX). Do I have to do ELDT training or I'm considered as a first time CDL applicant?
I bet you have to do the ELDT.
@@kebertxela941 I did not. And if u have it they don’t ask for certificate at any other confirmation.
@@nicolaetriboi6798 Cool.
I have had a CLP since 10/7/2021.
Am I able to get a class A or B without having to take the ELDT?
Yes, as long as you haven’t had to renew your CLP after February 7th of this year.
So I had my clp before the edit I just got my cdl now I want my hazmat do I need to take yh edit course if so that ain't right
Quick question so i got my cdl back in 2018 i want to get my tankers endorsement will i meed to take this test for that ?? Thank you in advance
I've had my cdl for 20 yrs. But its been 10yrs since I got a hazmat endorsement, but the drives service says i still have to get the ELDT TRAINING, I don't understan
me too, have you passed your ELDT training? is it easy?
So from what I'm hearing in this video. If you previously had a Hazmat endorsement you don't need ELD Training program to renew it ? What if I had my endorsement and let it expire, but renewing again now. Do I need to do ELD Training course ?
So if you take the online theory training do you have to find somewhere to take btw training as well since there is no hour requirement?
Yes
Question: I am in the admission process at my local UT community college in order to get a A CDL but as part of their requirements is getting a CLP. Is my local DMV at this date providing them? Since today is a holly day Monday I can’t get in touch with my school adviser and my DMV is closed. Thanks in advance.
Yes, they are still issuing CLPs. Generally, you’ll have to pass a knowledge test to get a CLP.
So I have to take a test to take a test. 🤦🏾♂️
Exactly what it sounds like, cash grab…sound like Biden bs
Do I need this before the general knowledge test? Or can I get it after?
What advice can you give me on material that I can use to teach the class
Really no secret to it…use your experience to develop an outline and content that follows the mandatory curriculum we linked in our last comment. Also there are some groups that resell training materials. SambaSafety is one.
I got my cdl in 2020 im seeking to add hazmat endorsement to my cdl do i just need need to take the hazmat theory and then go to the dmv?
Yes. Make sure you find a training provider that’s listed on the registry: tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov
Do you know what the hazmat theory consist of? Will i need to do the skills test and road test ?
There’s no skills or road test for the hazmat endorsement…just a knowledge test.
Question :
I got my permit at DMV , and wasn't aware about this new rule. Was ready to take my skill driving test when found out , that now DMV has to receive a letter from ELDT provider first..That i would be able to take skill test. Called provider. They all saying i have to take full course now THEORY and Behind The Wheel , and pay them 4-5k depends on a school.
So 1 month ago i could've just take the test...? And now i need to take full course at school and pay 4-5k even tho i have a permit already ..? Is that correct?
Yes, if you would have obtained your permit prior to Feb. 7, you could have avoided the new training requirement. You’ll now have to take the theory and BTW course in order to take your skills test. There are thousands of registered training providers, including some online, so shop around for the best price.
@@Trucksafe But it has to be a school ? Or could be some certified individual ? I know i can pass theory Online. How about BTW part ? Have to go to school ? Or can find someone privately who is licensed? Because schools will want you to take full course and pay them for all program.
Can be anyone who is registered through the FMCSA, including individuals if you can find them.
I’ve had my class A cdl since 2018. Do I still have to take ELDT training to get my hazmat endorsement today? Please answer
Yes, but only the hazmat theory portion of ELDT.
so im driving with a cdl holder at work. does that not count as btw training?
Not unless that CDL holder is listed on the Training Provider Registry. tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov
So, I used to have hazmat, and tanker.... on april I went to renew my licence
found out that i had to take the test on the computer for hazmat
they did not provide endorsement test at the DMV i went to, so I had to drop my hazmat...
do i still need to complete the ELDT? TO GET MY HAZMAT BACK?
The DOT hasn’t addressed this question as far as I know but I just submitted the question to them and will respond here when I hear back
Okay, we received a response back from the DOT on this topic. They indicated that if you previously held a hazmat endorsement prior to 2/7/22, you do NOT need to take ELDT to get that hazmat endorsement reinstated now, even if you don't currently have that endorsement.
@@Trucksafe oh yeah I appreciate it . I already went and did not have to take it 😆😆😆 thanks for your response buddy.
I have my CDL for 14 years I had hazmat endorsement then was expired in 2018 now I went to DMV tried to take the test they told me I have to take the ELDT training
I thought the first DMV didn’t know what they were doing then I wen to a second one and they told me the same thing
I even showed them my old CDL with the hazmat endorsement still refused to let me take the test
So please tell what do I need to do in that case
Clearly this new law says if you had it before you do not fall in that category
So if I got my Class A CDL in 12/2021 prior to 2/2022. I don't have to do ELDT.
What if I am trying to add a P Endorsement in 2023 to my CDL License that was obtained in 12/2021
If you didn’t hold the P endorsement prior to 2/2022, you’ll have to take that portion of ELDT to add that endorsement.
What's the average price for the class. When you are just upgrading your CDL.
I need some info. I need to get my class b with hazmat and tankers endorsement . For my job I'm a mobile mechanic. I live in California. So do I do the eldt first then go to the DMV and then. Go get my back ground check for hazmat. I'm confused what order does it go.
Find a training provider first and they’ll let you know what order you need to do stuff. Most do the theory portion of ELDT first, then you go to the DMV and take the knowledge test to get your CLP, then take your behind-the-wheel ELDT.
I have passanger and tanker but want to add hazmat do I need this
Yes. To add a hazmat endorsement, you’ll have to take the ELDT theory portion.
I want endorsement p on class A so do I need only theory training or behind the wheel also ?
P endorsement requires both theory and BTW ELDT.
How long after I complete training can I take my hazmat test? Do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I will be allowed to take the skills test?
Nope. As soon as your training provider uploads your completion certificate (must be done within 3 business days), you should be good to go.
So I have to pay for, and go do this training including a behind-the-wheel test, on top of the 15 hours of behind-the-wheel experience that I’ll need to go get from a trucking school to satisfy the DMV in my state?
Check with your state DMV. That 15 hours may suffice for both.
Bought this course like a month ago n im still working on this 🤦🏽♂️ it’s a process.. got a 1 year old got work study at work come home late .. by the time I’m ready to stupid it’s like 8-9
Question; If your driving an F350 with a 40ft. trailer do you still have to take the eldt course?
Depends on the combined GVWRs of your truck and trailer. My guess is that combo weighs more than 26k lbs and requires a CDL.
@@Trucksafe the truck gvwr is about 8,000 the trailer 2,000
@@Trucksafe thank you for your help
I would check those again to make sure you’re looking at the GVWR and not the GVW. Most 40 ft trailers I have seen have a GVWR of somewhere around 26k by themselves
@@Trucksafe ok thank so this new law effects new CDL drivers even if they are driving a truck and gooseneck again thank you very much this is all new to me I have my CLP and med card just trying to figure out if I have to take this eldt thanks
I’m looking to renew my class b cdl i had over 13 years but it was taken away due to i wasn’t driving and didn’t renew before Feb 2022..Do i need to do the eldt training to reinstate my cdl class b??
No, if you are looking to reinstate the same Class B that your previously held but has since lapsed, you should not be required to take ELDT. Check out FMCSA’s fact sheet here: tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/content/Resources/ELDT-Applicability-Factsheet_rev_508.pdf
Man this is so confusing. So where do I start if I’m looking to get my CDL for the first time?
Start by finding a registered training provider online at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. Then give them a call or check out their website to see what you’ll need to get started with their training.
So I have my permit and all endorsements in Oklahoma but I was told I have to go to a 4 week class to even take my road test is that true
Did you obtain your permit and endorsements prior to February 7th? If so, you’d be exempt from the entry-level training requirement. If not, you’d have to obtain that training.
My questions are if, I received my Clp before February 7th 2022 which was 2/2/22 but don't have my hazmat endorsement which, I want but my dmv here in Georgia told me. I could not get it until, I finish my cdl class which is April 2nd 2022 will, I still have to take the eldt part? In order to get my hazmat endorsement? Because I have so many people telling me different thing's like the website just says if you have your clp before the 7th then you are not required to do the eldt but it's a bit confusing when also it's says if your getting a endorsement for the first time you need to take the eldt.
Exactly! I'm in the same boat here in Indiana. Trying to get my hazmat and already taken the knowledge exam with the BMV and got my TSA fingerprints approved. But Indiana still won't let me have my endorsement. But I did print out and show them that it's not retroactive and us who have their CLP or CDL before Feb 7th are not required to go through ELDT, to which the BMV showed me two pamphlets that FMCSA gave them to "train" them which was in conflict with this. Crazy they can't figure it out!
You had to obtain your endorsement and license prior to February 7th. Even if you received your permit prior to 02/07/22 the process of the hazmat endorsement had to be final and complete before that date in order for you to no be obligated to take the new Theory class.
Update well the answer to my question is, I had to take eldt class online then go to the dmv to get my endorsement then go to tsa and get my fingerprints so now. I'm all set if you never had any endorsements as of H,S or P you had to get it before February 7th 2022 as the same rules applies for a clp or cdl.
Thanks for the update, Tasha. Just received this same guidance from the FMCSA.
Tasha, same advice I got as well. Had to take an online course, which was to prepare me to take the knowledge test I already passed! So was a bit backwards, but that struggle was only to prepare me for my current struggle of attempting to get the passenger endorsement to drive our church bus. Have to take in person ELDT and on the road training, but no one offers it around me!!!! Closest place I found was 4 hours away, a week long, and $900!!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous when I already have an unrestricted class A CDL and am not driving the bus for profit, but for church! I've come down to basically having to get a part time job at a school to get a school bus endorsement. Our fine government at work!
So I have had a NYS class A for 5 years now but I’m looking to get my automatic restriction off my license. Will I have to take this course in order to do that? Thanks
No. FMCSA has an FAQ on this topic here: tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/FAQ/Topics/applicability-exceptions
So could I do the theory eldt online and then later do the behind the wheel part with a school or do I have to do both with a school thanks
You can get them through separate training providers.
So if you take the on line ELDT only to upgrade to a class A! Do you still need to pay for a school to do on road or can a person with class a be qualified to do that?
It doesn’t have to be a school, but whoever you use has to be listed on the training provider registry. There are some individuals that are on that list.
So if your an entry level person can you just take the Eldt online theory do your written at the dmv then get your drive time with a current cdl holder (other guys at work) and then go do your behind the wheel?
Yes
Been sitting 4 hours finishing this stupid requirement lol and my school only accepts eldt direct which is $249 bucks
I’ve had my cdl class A since 2019 does this apply to me?
Only if you’re trying to add a hazmat, passenger or school bus endorsement
I have a question! I already have my CDL class A since 2018, and I add an endorsement with passenger endorsement, now I want to add a school endorsement and take a driving test for school bus. My question is Do I need to take the ELDT training course even though I took my class A 4 years ago with my passenger endorsement?
Yes, to add the S endorsement, you’ll need to take ELDT even though you already have the P endorsement
@@Trucksafe Thank you so much for your valuable time to answer my question.
( The ELDT requirements apply to individuals who obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CLP) on or after February 7, 2022.)
What they mean by this ?
My permit was before fab 7
If you got your CLP prior to 2/7 and haven’t had to renew it after that date, you’re exempt from ELDT

If you get an extension after 2/7, you’ll have to take ELDT.

This process is very confusing. Can someone explain the process for some interested in getting a CDL B? Do I sign up with a provider, study with them, then go to the DMV to take the knowledge test? And the start the behind the wheel training?
We would recommend you first find a registered trainer near you and ask them how they prefer you start the process. In most cases, you’ll need your CLP before you take the behind the wheel portion.
I'm so confused. Do I have to go to a full on trucking school now?
I can pass all the written test. What's the cheapest and fastest way to get my behind the wheel?
Truck school is not mandatory. What is mandatory is the ELDT training. Search for a training provider online at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov and find a provider that works well for you.

You would also need to take and pass the behind the wheel portion of the ELDT, unless the only thing you’re getting is a hazmat endorsement.
I obtained my CLP 4 days ago and then found a provider for my hazmat endorsement for ELDT. I completed their coarse required but my question is if I completed the theory Hazmat endorsement coarse for the ELDT, is there another Theory EDLT coarse that I would have to complete? For class A or B, you need both parts of ELDT in order to take the skills test at the DMV.
so then just for my commercial learner permit i would just need the theory and after i obtain it my learners permit, then i can do the behind the wheel training portion to qualify for my skills test?
That’s how we recommend you do it, but technically you can get your CLP without taking any of the ELDT.
okay thank you so much, i’m trying to get into lineman school and i have to get my clp permit before i can do so, i appreciate it a ton
A gift to the teamster union. The course here in Alaska costs 8000 bucks.
Make sure you shop around for training providers at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. There are hundreds of them.
would you happen to know if it's legally required for someone that had a CDL license in the past, downgraded to a class D and then got a CLP for the same license and endorsments after feb 7th? because technically I wouldn't be classified as a "new driver" considering I had done it in the past and have experience and it's not an upgrade or any additional endorsements. I'm basically trying to reinstate the license I used to have. they aren't really clear with what they mean. The way they word it as being a CDL driver for the first time which sounds like if I were a B and now I was going for an A then I would be a "new driver". And I technically am not a first time CDL B driver.
The FMCSA’s guidance says that if you’ve held a CDL of the same class in the past and simply let it “lapse” then you are exempt from the new ELDT requirement. That guidance is available here: tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/content/Resources/ELDT-Applicability-Factsheet_508.pdf. But, I’m not sure how the agency interprets that guidance if your CDL was involuntarily downgraded. Not sure if that’s your situation or not.

Yes, you’ll need to take the hazmat theory portion of ELDT to get that endorsement now. You should be able to find a provider online at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
Is there an ELDT course that can be taken online I just got my CLP next step is getting this ELDT done

Ok I’m a little confused. I have had my CDL since November 2018. I saw this rule and I’m currently scheduled for an appointment for the hazmat test. Since I have had my CDL before the start of this rule, do I need the ELDT training for hazmat or can I walk in and take the exam without it?
You’ll need ELDT to take the test.
Hazmat endorsements just require classroom training, no BTW.
Is the permit different than the ELDT? Asking for a friend here!
Yes. You can get a Commercial Learners Permit before taking your ELDT by passing a knowledge test at your local BMV. In most cases you’ll need the permit before you take the behind the wheel portion of your ELDT so you can do the training on public highways.
This is so confusing, I am trying to get my CLP by giving an exam for class A, do I need this ELDT training certificate before in order to sit for permit test ?
No you can get your CLP prior to taking the ELDT course.
Is ELDT training required if you're going for a Class B but none of the endorsements that's required for it? Right now I'm in the process of my CDL but I can't pass the driving portion. I passed everything else. Air Brake, Pre-Trip etc. But struggling with driving. But anyways. My permit expired Jan 2, 2023 and when I renew it I'm only going for a B license but only the regular General Knowledge and Air Brakes. No passenger, school bus or hazmat. Will I still have to do ELDT?
Yes, ELDT is required for a base Class B CDL.

Yes, the FMCSA has since clarified that previous holders of the hazmat endorsement does not qualify under the grandfathering, so you’ll need to take the theory portion of ELDT to get your hazmat.
@@Trucksafe thank you, way better explanation then DMV
People make it seem like you have to go to school to get your cdl but you only have to take the eldt program
Hey so I did my backings and road basics with a school but didn’t finish it can I just take my eldt online and rent a truck on test day
Behind the portion can be done online as well or is that actually an in person training?
Behind the wheel has to be in person
@@Trucksafe so I have to take the Theory portion of the ELDT, Behind the Wheel and My road test? So basically two road tests?
If you’re looking to get a Class A or B, that’s right. You have to take the theory portion and the BTW portion to be eligible to take the skills test at your BMV.
Do anyone here live in Calif? ? I live in Calif and starting 2023 DMV told me I had to Retake EVERYTHING Knowledge, Air Break, Passenger, Tanker , Just to add on a Hazmat Endorsement
Thats ridiculous
Probably a dumb question but do I have to go to school for all of this or can I do it online ?
You can do the theory portion online. Just search for an online provider at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. The behind the wheel portion obviously has to be completed in person.
All I need is hazmat endorsement! I’ve been driving a class A for 30 years, but now I need hazmat for the first time. Can it be all done online? And what do I need to do? So confusing. Help.
Yes, the hazmat training can all be done online. Search for an online provider at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov. Complete the training then you’ll be good to take your knowledge test to get the endorsement.
hey, so got my CLP back in october before feb 7. i passed my road test early march got my class A march 19. went to DMV today to take some endorsement tests they only let me take the tanker doubles and triple. and told me i needed to complete the ELDT course in order to take the hazmat test.. does this mean i only need to take a hazmat ELDT course or the whole ELDT course? if so is there one you recommend online? thanks
Just hazmat. You should be able to find an online hazmat ELDT provider by searching at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
This Thursday I will test with the DMV that comes to our school, I'm currently training for my class A.
I need all your support hit me up. I will post a video of my certification and then I will head over to the DMV in Elk Grove Village and get the paper print or the actual ID 🤔 I will schedule 📅 an appointment for pre enrolment process for Hazmat Endorsement.
I don’t see a tanker endorsement in the website
I got my permit last month, but I work for the city of Chattanooga which is the government, can’t I just hv them train me in terms of driving?
Only if they’re registered as a training provider on the FMCSA’s registry. tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov.
So I pass my class A on the 15 of march 2022 and had already took all my endorsements hazmat tankers school bus in 2022 do I still need to go through this rule or program .pls help anyone
Did you pass the tests to get your permit? Or did you pass the tests and get your license?
Ive heard that the new training costs a few thousand dollars is this true?
Really just depends on the training provider. I’ve seen it as low as a couple hundred dollars.
I'm still trying to figure out why the FMCSA website itself says these new rules are not retroactive and those who obtained a CDL-Permit (CLP) before Feb 7th 2022 and get their CDL without letting the CLP expire are not required to go through ELDT.......but yet here in Indiana I've taken my hazmat endorsement knowledge exam already, got my TSA fingerprints, and can't get my hazmat because they want me to take a class!!!! Then I want to drive our church bus and need to add a passenger endorsement, which there is no clarification on if I need both theory and behind the wheel, just theory, or neither because I already have my CDL-A. Too confusing and no one seems to have answers.
It's my understanding that the CLP grandfathering only applies to the base CDL, not any endorsements you're seeking to add. So in other words, if you had a CLP prior to Feb 7, you wouldn't have to take the training to get a Class A or B CDL, but you would have to take the training to add an endorsement. Seems backwards, but that's how it seems to be.
@@Trucksafe that’s exactly how it works
I obtained my CLP 4 days ago and then found a provider for my hazmat endorsement for ELDT. I completed their coarse required but my question is if I completed the theory Hazmat endorsement coarse for the ELDT, is there another Theory EDLT coarse that I would have to complete? Or does the hazmat theory coarse I took satisfy the training for “Theory” in general? I’m only asking this because I actually start school next week. The school is confused on if I still need the theory portion of the ELDT because I went through another provider prior to attending their school. The school I’m attending didn’t even know you can obtain your CLP prior to taking the theory class. They use the first week of school to teach the required coarse and then send off their students on fridays to get their CLP. I’m in a unique situation whereas I obtained my CLP on my own and got ELDT through a certified provider online for my state. I only took the coarse to obtain the required ELDT theory for Hazmat. Please help
Yes, the curriculum for the hazmat theory training is not the same as the curriculum for the theory portion of your base CDL, so you need both.
@@Trucksafe thanks for clarifying
@@WrightAid can you provide me where did you get the eldt course online for hazmat ? I also have my clp and I went to dmv today but I was not able to add it because I need that certification, also do you know if the other portion can be done online to ? Or it has to be behind the wheel ?
@@Trucksafe it's cool that the theory for hazmat can be done online but the other theory can also be done online ? Or it has to be actually the behind the wheel I'm confused for that part
All theory can be done online.
I have my CLP and Medical/DOT card i have been driving box truck for few years and i know how to drive manual i know all the pre trip and post trip how to login my duties etc ......... the CLP was so easy for me to pass all 3 General+air brakes+comb . after i passed i was told i need to go to school and i dont have 7000$ for them to show me and train me how to park or how to drive or how to inspect all i need is a truck to test on . Question : Can I do Eldt online then find a truck to test on at DMV ? please advise anyone can help me ?
you can get your eldt online, you can do it at your own pace. just search fmcsa certified eldt course online, i found one for $400
If you held your CLP prior to Feb. 7th and haven’t renewed it since then, you should be exempt from the ELDT requirement
@@osamanbush6575 i understand but do i still need a trucking school ? because they will ask at DMV about what school iam testing with ?
@@kingz4175 just found out that the eldt law requires behind the wheel certification and the theory portion of the certificate, so yeah bro you would have to attend a school…luckily i found one in my city thats 4 weeks to finish
@@kingz4175 no if you know how to drive the truck just take the CDL test after 14days if doing ELDT/CLP
