Hello Arturo, you’ll want to call around your area and ask the schools how long their course is. I would recommend finding a school that is at least 160 hours. Ask how much actual drive time you get. Youll want to get at least 15 hours of BTW time to feel comfortable. Have you got your permit yet?

Find a 3rd party testing site that will do a 2 hour behind the wheel. Takes care of both Range and Road. 1 hour pretrip class. 3 hours total. There's no set amount of time required.

Hey B34 that is incorrect information. Your scores go to fmcsa and your state looks them up there. If you put your information in wrong and it does not match up with your drivers license your state can not find you. Hello Salem, it all depends on the school you attend. We have a bunch of schools we work with that use the ELDT theory to also help students get their permit before attending class. Some schools if you show up with your theory done and your permit in hand you will get a nice discount and start driving your first week.

My employer wants me to attend your course...after completing they said I need to go to the local dmv and take my permit test...then they will team me up with our yard / shuttle driver to get my driving and backing up experience...once I'm good at it they said I can then go for my driving test with one of their trucks. Hello Hunter, As long as your company is registered with the FMCSA TPR they will be able to submit your backing and BTW time. We submit your theory and your off to the DMV to take your final exam. I have a question about going from Class B to Class A. Do I still have to do all the backing and BTW time in order to be eligible to go take my test and get my license? I have had my Class B for 15 years now, My boss bought tractor trailer recently and I'm the operations manager. I went and got my Class A permit but haven't fully figured out what to do to get licensed. I want to be able to drive the truck if needed but I don't really have the hours to put into a driving course. That's why I was looking into online training. Anyways, any help or information would be greatly appreciated since it's so confusing on the DMV websites. Thanks
Hey Boss, Lowdown - to upgrade from class B to A you will have to take the class B to A theory course plus BTW time for road and range. Once all three of those have been submitted to fmcsa you can schedule your state exam at the DMV. You can jump on the fmcsa site and search for a local training provider to help you out. If your Boss already has a cdl drivers he can register to be a training provider to train his employees in-house. Texas requires this a long with a TSA background check...before you can take the CDL written exam.
