Zoom G1 FOUR: Every effect individually played (direct recording)

- Apart from a slight mixup in the overdrives, this is all 78 effects of the Zoom G1 FOUR played individually. You can mix up to five of these effects together in one patch.
This is EXACTLY the video I was looking for. So many others focus strictly on the overdrive and crunch sounds but not any of the reverb which was my main interest. Thanks so much for posting!
Glad it was helpful!
Thx for the detailed demo
same!
Wish you turned up the decay on the first couple of reverbs tho! I started out looking for a headphone amp then someone said get one of these, you can plug headphones in anyway and it will be way more versatile. This seems pretty fun and kind of retro now, plus have always wanted to try looping so I am tempted!

Wow nice work Ankur! Thank you 😊
I can't thank you enough for these in-depth videos about this pedal. I bought one because of you. I really appreciate the amount of hard work you've put into this.
Glad to help! And thanks for watching Gearfacts, I appreciate it

I’d like to remind you that when doing cab sim demos, the mic button is off , should be turned to “on” position in order to activate it😎
that was the first thing I noticed within 5 seconds of the video. Mic has to be turned on.
Yep I’ve made a separate video about that

Thank you for the video. Learned a lot. Been looking at one of these, but they never give you enough information to make a good decision. This helped a bunch.
Excellent, that's exactly what Gearfacts is all about. Thanks for the message! GF
I love the tonelib zoom app for smartphones. Makes it so easy to plug in with my phone and customize or put new patches into the device!
AWESOME demonstration and very much needed too.

The most useful video on this product! 👏
Happy to hear that! Thanks as always for watching, Paul
I just paid $99 bucks for this pedal, i been playing and gigging for 60 years and thru a VHT i get all the sounds i been lookin for in one pedal
Awesome man, end of a long search! #gearfacts
I'm sold to the ZG14 with THIS demo. Thank you Sir.
Was hoping this listed the actual effects, not patches. You can build much more useful patches easily with this, than the ones that come with it.
A virtual room full of amps, cabs, and effects, with full controls! I use the znr reduction at the end of driven patches to remove noise. Great pedal!
I made a separate video showing each individual effect. Ppl didn’t like it much! But I left it up
18:24 ... the Bomber effect? I wonder how many people use this. I wish they'd just ditch it and replace it with something else LOL. I have it on my old Zoom G10n too. I'm seriously looking at getting the Zoom G1X Four (the one with the pedal). It has some new things over the G10n including better layout of buttons and more knobs for adjustments and some new delays and stuff (and "LoopRoll" sounds like it might be interesting to have ~ 'allows you use the footswitch to sample and hold what you play').... I think one thing I wish they had kept was the 'particle reverb' which apparently isn't on the new one. Another slight annoyance is that cabs apparently are now separate (so they take up one effect slot). On the G10n, they are just a setting in an amp model.
- 16:20 octave
- Pitch shift
- 19:55 reverse DeLay
- 25:40 eq 7 bande
- eq parametric 2 bande
- armonizer ?
- extender?
Is there a way how to set two effects (flanger + delay) and turn them both on and off at one stomping of the foot switch pedal? I tried to find a way but I can't.
Not really. You can leave it in edit mode, enabling you to have one effect active and 'stomp' another effect on/off ...but it's far from ideal I guess...
Hell Yes! This is why Gearfacts rocks! I was one of the people who was curious about a very specific effects. I feel like this video a specially tailored just for me! Not only was my comment responded do, but here's a video that answers my question. Specifically, how the octave effect behaves. It doesn't have that slight latency/delay between the second octave and original. At least I don't notice it. that was always the biggest turn off for me and some of these multi fx. Certain effects don't behave correctly
Glad it answered your questions KR :) Gearfacts
great video! i think ill get one of these so i can get back into playing guitar.
How to get to this screen on the processor dude?Im a noob and can only cycle through the preset patches
Press the edit button twice, it cycles through different options with multiple presses :) Gearfacts
Hello Tnks for the video, this Zoom can be used for record by USB wire to computer, like audio card ?
I'm fairly sure that the USB is for comms only, not for recording.
Rad video I really wanted the expression pedal on the a1x four but they have been back ordered for a while but I can get those effects from the website since I went with the g1x four instead your videos have been helpful so thank you I'm a harmonica player and I get tired of lugging my amp to church for worship so this should work well thanks again
Thanks friend!
Thanks for this, very informative. Read that you can hook this up to your computer and use the Zoom Free Guitar Lab Software to find and create/edit more fx, so does that mean I can use my PC instead of an Amplifier? - Similar to the new Zoom GCE-3.
Yep, I've made a separate video all about Guitar Lab. Just search "Gearfacts guitar lab" and you'll see it in detail :) #gearfacts
Can it be used as a general effects unit for synth like Volca and other compact ones? I'm looking for an inexpensive battery powered multi-effects unit.
Yep you can use it with a Volca.
Thanks for the video! Its there always some "amp processing" with that pedal or I could use it top modify my direct input before my amp (or in the FX loop)? Thank you!
Yes you can use it with or without amp processing. It's very versatile.
Is there ‘BLACK WAH’ on this? Thank you.
No
Can I add my guitar sound to the DAW from this directly?
I believe so, but I’d google that just to be sure
Hi! I currently need a modulation pedal. Should I pick this zoom g1xfour or a Zoom ms50g/ms70cdr? Thanks!
I think the G1 four will cost you a little bit less abd actually offers a few extra effects. It’s still worth considering the MS50g though if you were setting things up with other pedals and/or going out on the road.
There is a constant buzz in all the overdrive effects. Would adding a noise gate at the end of the chain remove it?
It's mostly from the electrics in my home. Very bad. A noise reducer with a hum eliminator would neutralize it I think.
Aloha from Hawaii 😉 🤙
Got this 2 days ago from Amazon & heading out today to my local guitar center to get me another guitar cord for I can play around with the pedal.
I wanted a good looper pedal with drum tracks and this has many cool effects built-in so I can play guitar more & be creative.
Seems like a good deal.
➡️ my 1 question is how long do these usually last if taken care of;
1 year
2 years
2+
I’ve seen similar zoom models still working fine after 20 years :)
@gearfacts it's just me using it & I'm pretty good about taking care of things.
If it lasts 2-3 yrs without the pedal modules fizzing out it will be worth it 👌
You're an angel
Not sure what kind of angel but ok :)
thanks a lot for the effort !

Do you have a cabinet on with the amps? They sound terrible.
I made a separte Zoom G1FOUR video on this topic :) GF
Can you chain a Compressor, Reverb and Delay? As in, assign them to 1 and 2 and 3 and activate all three?

Hello there! Excellent video! My quick question: can you add an overdrive on top of the amp modelling? I am looking to replace a Stomplab and I would like to be able to engage an OD pedal with my amp, the stomplab only let's you choose one or the other lol. Thanks, and also, what do you think of the fender clean amp models on this unit?
Hi, yes you can add overdrive to an amp model, or even put the overdrive after the amp model if you want to experiment. It's very versatile like that. As for the Fender clean models, they're fine, but not as good as the models that Fender makes of their own amps. GF
Thaanks for this video❤❤❤
Thanks for doing this. Which one you prefer this or Zoom G3? Cheers.
Much better than the 505 which I eventually grew allergic to. I wonder what other Zoom pedal there will be to compare it to in another 20-25.
Indeed. It's hard to see what other improvements they could conceivably make. A lot of expensive gear may be obsolete by then because the cheap digital technology will have overtaken it, I expect.
Hey, thanks for all the videos on this pedal! Do you know if there is a DSP resources limit on the stacking too (ie. like the G3n, you can go up to 100 resources and each effect takes 8, some cab sims take up to 30-40 resources, and so on), or if it's literally any of the 5 things you can stack? Also, does it have a true bypass feature? Thanks!
Yes it does have the limits you describe there. As for the bypass, it has an actual effect slot for "Bypass" but I doubt it's "true" as in a direct electrical line through. Thanks for watching my channel! Gearfacts
Yo I need some help, so I have this pedal, how would I achieve a “chorus” effect or a “reverb” effect. I’m trying to mimic a RUclipsr and this is the effects he uses on this pedal. But there isnt a preset called “chorus” or “reverb” are all the presets falling under these categories? Plz help I’m a beginner
Reverb and chorus are individual effects. Presets are usually collections of several effects all working at once. The way to get what you want is to go into edit mode and create a preset that contains just the reverb and/or chorus. I've made a tutorial about how to do it, hope it helps: ruclips.net/video/DewlHy0vHNk/видео.html
I already have a preamp and cab sim pedal and I'm looking for a modulation pedal. Can this be used as such without the onboard amp+cabsim and without the tone suck?
Definitely :)
I didn't hear a surf guitar. Why does no one ever have a surf guitar effect?
I have terrible taste in guitar tones :)
Hi. Thanks for your video. I have one question: can you put more than one expression pedal in same preset and assign it to different controls? Like one pedal for wah-wah second for delay and third for vol ect - all next to each other in one preset.
I can't think of any way to do that, but other commenters on this thread might have some ideas. Anyone?
Will this sound mickey mousy on a live stage situation, rather like perhaps it would of been better to spend extra money on something more realistic ?
I guess the first thing I would say is that your audience probably won’t be able to tell the difference. However, you probably will and that might be slightly annoying when you’re performing. If you’re looking for classic sounds maybe have a look for something made by Nux. They’re still cheap, but they focus much more on the tone rather than the very-wide (and fun) variety of features offered by zoom.
@@gearfacts hi and thankyou for replying, this is the answer that I was hoping for, it makes good sense, I will be looking further into Nux effects, needing only reverb and delay effects without all of the rest of the flavours, strange to say that the last 20 years or so of live gigs were covered by an old zoom 1201 rack effects unit and very successfully, ( bought my house two and a half times over ) yes it had all of the usual umpteen settings but the reverb and delay was perfect, just a one knob operation left for short delays and right for the more spacious stuff, only needed to turn around and do a one second tweak here and there for different numbers, so easy ! Yes I did take a serious interest in the Strymon Volante for a while but there is so much on that unit that would take me another lifetime to learn when the Nux ocean reverb and delay is all that I really need for effects with my Boss laden pedal board is still going strong after very many years of live gigs lol ! Anyway thankyou for your informative message and best wishes to you. 🙂
Thanks a ton for this👍👍👍👍

super video , really practical , please tell me if there is a TAP TEMPO for the delays...i wanna buy this model but i need to be sure there is a fast possibility to chanhe the tempo , a tap tempo is best because how to synchronize with lap top backround tempo without midi build in , of course we require TAP TEMPO ... is there any tap tempo inside ( if yes , is it easy to find , to use ) ?? thanks a lot ...i searched a lot , never i found any answer on this crucial question for y main use on live for delays .....thanks
Glad you liked the video! There's no tap tempo as far as I'm aware, unless it's deeply hidden in the system. All I can see is tempo-sync with the internal beats. So it might not be ideal...Most Boss multi effects pedals have it, certainly all the ones with a CTL pedal. Hope that helps GF
@@gearfacts Thanks a lot.. ☺️ 🎶
Hi, are they grouped in different folders just as the G1on? To simplify navigation. I watched some videos and itseems they removed this feature but I want to be sure.
sort of - they are in alpha-numeric groups
I'd like to have my effects chains controlled with the expression pedal as a volume control but most chains don't contain the volume control. Can you tell me how to change the effect in position #5 in any of the chains to a Volume control...or is that even possible? Thanks.
To control volume you can just select "patch volume" in the master settings.
@@gearfacts Thank you for responding. Yes., that works. I was hoping there was a way to install the volume pedal effect in the signal chain, if there was no pedal effect included in the factory chain. I haven't found a way yet. I've basically been copying chains that have a pedal effect already included from the factory, and reassigning all the other effects in the chains to copy or create patches I want to use. That works, but involves extra work. 'Twould be quicker if I could just drop a volume control effect into the factory chains that lack pedal effects.
@@lar57jsy Hmm it's an interesting question. I haven't got one in the studio with me atm but I'll check it out the next time one comes in. Good luck on your search!
You might not respond bc this video is kinda old but does it come with another cable bc I already have one but I use it for my guitar to my amp? So do I need to buy another one to plug into the pedal to my amp?
It was a long time ago but yes I’m pretty sure it came with a usb cable. Thanks for watching gearfacts:)
does it have Reverb, Delay and Overdrive? you can arrange them on the 5 spots any way you want right?
It does have all those things. For this video I wanted everyone to hear the entire selection of effects one by one.
Does this have have an organ effect available? I play harmonica have a need for an organ effect. I was about to purchase the zoom ms50 since it has one, but I'll hold our for a reply on this question.
The Zoom G1on and G1Xon (the models before this new one) have got an Organ effect. These pedals will be even cheaper now the new G1four is on the market. If you want to buy this, get the one with the expression pedal (G1Xon) so you can adjust the speed of the rotatating speaker of the Leslie Box fx that's also on the pedal. It has a fixed slow and fast setting with a ramp up and break effect.)
The organ effect is not as convincing as an EHX B9 or C9 pedal but as a texture in the background of a mix it's oke.
This one seems not to have a a specific 'organ' effect like the G1xon (as Case Nowie mentioned) but it does have rotary effects and Univibe, so it'd be easy (and fun) to construct a good organ sound with it :) Gearfacts
I want to knw about the review & demo of .. Zoom B1 four Processor.. Which is the Bass Processor.. Can u sir... Plz. ... share with us ....about the review of Zoom B1 four
I have a G1X FOUR arriving soon, and hopefully the bass one will come a few weeks after that :) Gearfacts
Damn, those distortion sounds are really rough and scratchy, do they get better after running them through the amp and cab simulations or does that still come through?
Definitely. This is the main reason why I made this video. When this pedal was released I received many messages from people talking about how important it was to activate cab simulations, which are defaulted to OFF when you buy it new. Crazy! So I made a video specifically about the cab sims, and I made this video so that we could all hear the absolute raw sounds. It's all part of one big comparison :)
Giving it a thorough going over!!
Yeah I think the punters are losing interest. I've got two more vids in mind: Using it with keyboard, and comparing it to my ancient Zoom 3030.
Dude all product i want you got a review abouth it you are the shit!

I've had my eye on this unit, i like the simple but informative interface. However I also really like the Zoom MS-50G. It has even less of an interface but simulates alot of known pedals, like the Boss Metal Zone, which I grew up using. I wish the MS-50G was in the G1 FOUR packaging.
Yeah I think it's really important to consider physical aspects as well as sonic aspects :) #gearfacts
@@gearfacts hello , is the sound quality inferior to the ms-50g?Thanks
@@PPanossss good question indeed? think its the same?
@@PPanossss It's the reverse - the G1four is based on the next generation of DSP effects, and has better sound quality. However, the community have been active for years making custom patches for the MS50/70 pedals, so there is a lot going for it in that regard.
I recently watched another video on youtube regarding this pedal... and i don't own the pedal and by no means am I an expert. But if you are direct recording and not sending this pedal through a normal amp/in front of an amp then it is critical your cabinet models have the "mic" switched to "on". Even when testing individual effects you HAVE to have a cabinet model when direct recording and have the "mic" setting effect switched to on to get a good quality tone. You probably went through a lot of effort to make this video and I may be wrong but this video is a little bit misleading. On the old g1on model the cab sim was set "on" by default. Which is perhaps why I saw in an earlier comment you made thought the g1xon sounded better than their newer model.
Well, y'know, the video was just meant to show people exactly what effects were there rather than just reading through a list. It wasn't intended to sound 'good', it's just meant to be a document. I uploaded about 5 other vids about the pedal, so i think I covered it pretty well. Thanks for being friendly about it though, I've had some some people really lose their cool over this :) GF
@@gearfacts Yea haha my bad... I was going to delete my previous comment after I saw you had made a whole video regarding cab sims and turning the "mic" on or off. cheers for the reply and good content. Do you still believe the predecessor zoom g1xon is better than this pedal?
@Gearfacts:
Please, is there still a processor overflow like in the previous devices when too demanding effects are combined?

Pretty nice. I didn't see pitch delay. That's one of my favorite Zoom effects. Kind of a poor man's eventide. Of course, Zoom has been known to add more effects later.
That's what I call my G1Xon as well: a poor man's eventide H9.
I also missed some fx like the Leslie sim, stereo delay (when you put a mono fx after it in the chain, L and R become parallel fx so you can do the Brian May Brighton Rock delay thing!) and whammy
@@casenowie Yeah, I do have both the G3 and G3n and there's a lot of cool effects you can play with. Both do have the pitch delay and you can have 2 next to each other so you can get that Steve Vai Ballerina 12/24 sound. This sounds pretty much the same as the G3n. Currently I'm just using my older G1, but now I'm considering pulling the G3n out again.
@@beatnicksodyssey Hahaha, that's why I bought a second G1Xon to do the Vai Ballerina thing (still can't play it but the sound fx is there 😂)

@@casenowie so I just found out, this does not have a jack in the back for an expression pedal. You need to spend the extra $20 to buy the G1x four if you want to do any effects that require expression. And I can't play Ballerina 12/24 either. I love messing with that effect though.

How effective would you say are the compressors? thanks for the video
To be honest I’m not very good with compressors and am not the best person to ask. I always find it easier to “read” the results of compression in post production. However, there are a couple of different types and they are quick and easy to set up. They’re very digital of course, but as with every other aspect of this pedal the quality exceeds the price tag :)
@@gearfacts got it. Thanks.
Why did you turn off cab simulator ? Don't do that when recording direct
The intention of the video is to give a clear depiction of what each effect sounds like. It wasn’t a demonstration of what is ‘good tone’. I’ve made other videos about that.
Is there a blues breaker-type pedal on the g1four?
There is an effect called "Blues" as I recall, but you'd have to check the manual to see what pedal its based on. The manual is quite detailed about what inspired each effect and it's easy to find it on the net.

No, not all the effects respond to expression.
Can you please do a comparison of G1xFour and the G1XON?
I haven't got either of those peds anymore sorry, but I can give you an opinion: The G1xFOUR has better amp and drive models, is a bit more practical to use and has a better looper. The G1XON is stronger on the experimental side, with more ambient sounds and synth tones. It's often sold very cheaply too so it's great value right now. I hope that helps :) Gearfacts

Absolutely. The inclusion of 'bomber' really eats into the credibility of Zoom! Korg used to have an effect that set off a kick drum sound if you hit a chord over a certain velocity, maybe it could be used like that. Doubt it though, it's just silly.
I still love my G1xOn but I like how you can switch off every effects in the chain. Pretty neat but not always ideal.
Yeah I'm not sure it's worth the leap from the G1xon :) Gearfacts
All sound the same to me with just different drive levels.
That's pretty unexptected ... There were flangers, phasers, various kinds of chorus and modulations ...Maybe there's something wrong with the audio here...
@@gearfacts No, nothing wrong with the audio its just the sound chip. I have the Zoom G3n which I think is the same with more features. Example: the tone of the Marshall 800 (MS 800), Orange 120 (Org 120) and the Xtasy Blue all sound the same. Where as in my Digitech RP360 the Marshall 800 and Orange 120 sound like different amps as the would in reality. It's my only complaint about the Zoom products otherwise they are pretty good. What I am trying to say is you can change the tone but they all sound the same even if you add cabinets and pedals.
No Reverb effect?
Yeah there are lots of reverbs to choose from, this demo is more about modulation effects :) #gearfacts
Are these all effects on the new Zoom G1 four version? I have a Zoom G1.
I have a G1Xon and 3 minutes into this video I see a lot of new effects on this new Zoom pedal.
I love the simplicity of the G1 and it still sounds great today in my opinion. It gave more options than the 505 series, but still kept it relatively simple. I also like how small it is, it doesn't take up much space in my room. I have newer pedals, but currently I'm using the G1. And, yes, these are all from the G1 four and give you more control than the G1. It's a plus and a minus for me, because the more control I have, the more fiddling I do, that's why I like the G1.
After watching the whole thing there are some fx on the old G1Xon that I don't see here like whammy, Leslie sim and stereo delay. I find the expression pedal realy great on mine. You can controle fx level, fx rate, delay time etc (only 1 at the time.)
Zoom usually come with a free update after a while where they add some new fx so let's hope they keep doing that with this pedal.(@Beatnik reminded me of that)
Yeah I think they’ve improved the dynamics on some effects too. Gearfacts
Ah yes, I’ve always believed that limitations breed creativity :) Gearfacts
