nah. it's weak and Daniel did it intentionally. this was his response when the label said they needed a "single" because the album had nothing good on it for radio.
The lyrics are about the idiot A&R guy that was stalling their record release saying he didn’t have a single. So Dan wrote this generic song about him and his rambling nonsense
This song was a fuck you to the label that didn’t wanna produce Diorama and wanted a grunge hit. It was not meant to be a hit. Daniel was fucking around
this song is a perfect bridge from neon ballroom to diorama. so sad that i wasnt included. and its really sad that daniel hates this. i dont understand how he could not like anything he wrote himself, even if the record companys pressed him for a song ,it seems like he should be proud of ANYTHING that came out of his own head
I feel you! Freaking good song! I bought the Diorama guitar tab book and this is the first song I'm learing from it. Had to figure some parts out and find bits and pieces of how to play it online
I guess we'll always wonder what the deleted album sounds like, even though we have an idea judging by this song, Pins in my Needles and The Lever just to name a few
Always loved this b-side---Amazing guitar work.... Over the years Daniel became a great musician, very talented and complete. Up to this era I considered him almost a genius. Silverchair should come back and create stuff like this.
Oh come on , he is/was a genius. They say rock is dead in 2020... maybe Silverchair should come out of retirement since they been rocking it up since age 15
Lyrics When I find my thoughts It seems I'm losing myself In the dark of my mind And the ocean of time So I read between the cracks In the time that I write But the salt water's dry And the pain's in the sky Give me something real Something I can feel Because the truth feels like a movie All you do is ramble Discard your life for shambles Ramble To break the silence Open up and ramble To break the silence and open your mind Leave it behind you No longer engaged To insecure scars 'Cause nothing's secure It's just kept behind bars And I love everything You've learnt to ignore But you don't wanna hear If you've heard it before I'll give you something real Something you can feel You take your life and make of it what you can Open up your mind Stop thinkin' 'bout all of the things you will never show Cause all you do is ramble So light another candle
@@Hooligan71 that's actually not true. This song was written after the album was completed specifically because the record label wanted a "single" But Daniel hated it, and told the label this is the best they were going to get but he preferred to leave it off of the album and they relented and it was left off
The record label told Daniel that the album wasn't good and they didn't hear "a hit" and they wanted him to specifically write a single. This is what he wrote and turned it to the label. but he let them know that he hated it and that he wouldn't be promoting it if they put it on the album. He preferred the album be released as it was as an artistic statement. The record label relented and allow them to release the album as they wanted it to sound
All that matters as a listener is that this song is great, which it is. The artists can reach for their own standards. I enjoy it, that's what matters.
Atlantic Records wanted a “ Radio hit” so Silverchair rushed to record this song even though they were done recording and although the record label liked it, it was ultimately left off as Daniel had faith that the album would succeed without a radio song
Daniel was a genius, and his throwaway songs, like this, are better than most artists. It would've been a good single, but doesn't really have the vibe of the album.
I think he can be over critical of some of his music, lately it's like if it's not really complex he doesn't like it. but sometimes I think simple is good.
Are you the same person you were 20 years ago ? If you are I feel sorry for you. Daniel changed over time. Silverchair changed over time. Simple as that .
NZ Home Business I don't think I'll ever get into electronic music no matter how old I get. I've missed out on good pussy cos I can't stand djs and raves lol
Honestly who cares if Daniel hates it? The guy is completely off the rails. Best of luck to him, but I think the dream is dead. Luckily, Silverchair from 1999 to 2002, their albums and their performances, are immortalized herein.
Sean Moloney or created a new identity. I think his struggles with his mental health really affected the direction of the band. That story he tells about erasing a whole recording because he “didn’t want to write angry songs anymore “ was the start of it. ... maybe he should have just let it all out instead of bottling in the anger , he produced a different style of work but I still think Rock was his true calling because even today despite doing electro-pop he is still struggling mentally with you who he is or was
I'm still amazed this didn't make the album. It's one of the best songs they've written.

How i never heard this pearl before? years listening silverchair and only hear this masterpiece tonight!?!!
I'm the same. Check out silverchair pins in my needles. B- side.
I thought i heard it all too...
They need to release these b-sides, they're brilliant
Yes sir!
they were ALL released years ago...
They are all on the Without you single I believe.
@@sebastiankrajewski2029 I think you know what he meant bruh. these have never been available widely and never outside australia
Great guitar writing on this song. Sounds like a marriage between Without You and The Greatest View

that's not how true creatives work. anything born from anything other than inspiration is shit to most creatives.

SILVERCHAIR IS THE BEST BAND EVER, NOTHING COMPARES TO IT
It's true
Exactly!!!!
King's X. Bout it
it's a crime this song isnt on spotify

B sides of Diorama are truly masterpieces jajaja Daniel Johns is very critical with really great songs.
I'm learning this song right now on guitar. Ive sung it in the shower many times 😀😃😃😇
I'm always searching for Silverchair songs this is one of my favourites
This song is EFFIN GOLD!!
Nice memories. this album helped me a lot back then
Lyrics
When I find my thoughts
It seems I'm losing myself
In the dark of my mind
And the ocean of time
So I read between the cracks
In the time that I write
But the salt water's dry
And the pain's in the sky
Give me something real
Something I can feel
Because the truth feels like a movie
All you do is ramble
Discard your life for shambles
Ramble
To break the silence
Open up and ramble
To break the silence and open your mind
Leave it behind you
No longer engaged
To insecure scars
'Cause nothing's secure
It's just kept behind bars
And I love everything
You've learnt to ignore
But you don't wanna hear
If you've heard it before
I'll give you something real
Something you can feel
You take your life and make of it what you can
Open up your mind
Stop thinkin' 'bout all of the things you will never show
Cause all you do is ramble
So light another candle
Definitely deserves a place in any of their albums.
Absolutely wonderful! :)
30,10,2022 eu aqui no brasil ouvindo essa obra prima , no estilo daniel jonhs.......daquele jeito..
It’s astonishing that this, Asylum, and Pins in My Needles were B Sides.
Amo....... Amo .....Amo essa Musica,amo Silverchair,Amo Daniel John's}
I never understood why this didn’t make Diorama. It could’ve been a single IMHO.
It was all Atlantic records fault. They didn't think it was like the other silverchair hits

haha i think this is very cool song. It has stuck in my head. Very Silverchair'ish :D
Did not know about it !!
Oh I get it, their b-sides are better than album tracks. I get it now.
Haha. Yup. I love this song too.
Same level I would say... not better.
I love pins in my needles 🤟 b-side.
They left out some rockers that would of made the album way better for me. I always thought Hollywood was gonna be the single the label wanted.

I really dig this track, but I can see why they didn't include it in Diorama. The mood set in this song didn't fit Diorama mood.
I wish Ramble, Hollywood and Pins In My needles were in Diorama instead of the slow songs. The label and I would of been happier.
@@TakeFlight Pins in my Needles ! What use of unexpected notes and structure... I can only dream to compose like that...

Great mix of pop, grunge and '80s fantasy (i.e, Labyrinth).

Have you heard his new music now? Its mega simple. There's not even any music in it 😂🤣😂
I like it, shame Daniel doesn't.
I think some parts of this song has a Freak Show album feel
I want the stems
This song gives off strong Puddle of Mud vibes
I love both bands 🤟
Love both bands too. I cover songs from both!
I got a lot of 311 vibes in the beginning.
it's not some b-side like Peens in my needles, but it's a great song.
Danny Russell 😂
When did he say that then?
