Kim Thayil might be the onlyi musician I've read compare Rush and Sonic Youth. That, to me, has always summed up what made the seattle bands what they were: an imdifference to the comventions of various genres.
Two of my favorite moments in social media: 1.-When I get "😆" reactions from saying how influenced Soundgarden is from Sabbath and Zepp; and 2.- The same when I say if you 'hate' GVF, you must hate Rush and Heart as well. 🤣😂 Must be Nirvana fans, probably... 🤷♂
I prefer Ben Shepherd by a slight bit, but I love Hiro's playing for sure! Unfortunately on studio recordings it's very mixed in. Someone made this cool bass boosted mix of "Entering" and the prominence of the unique bassline greatly enhances the song (in my opinion), I recommend checking it out: ruclips.net/video/XlJm07XplDA/видео.html Ben Shepherd himself even talked about trying to figure out the song's bassline once.
@@motorologist Love this. Thanks. Hiro to me wrote the better material, played with a pick which sounds WAY better (just like me) and on top of that looked really cool. His face stood out in band photos before I heard a note. Ben Shepard has good tone overall. For a fingers guy he's no Andrew Weiss (Rollins Band) but he's pretty good though. I do fingers and pick so...
@@motorologist I'm trying to mix old 1993 recordings of a band I was in (Meat - live videos on my channel) . Whenever I add rad effects to the singer's voice more than half the time my bass parts get lost for sure. Trying to find that balance ain't always easy. Yada, yada.
@@billieolsen4088 Yeah that's always been the case. I was over at a friend's place blasting that one just a few months before Chris Cornell's death. We went through both Ultra and Louder CDs (we would routinely go through our library CDs and few of our own regularly) but stood for this punching the air like we were 23 again. I'm 55 now so..
Miss you so much Chris.
He deserves to be the best Rock and roll Hall of Fame the greatest voice of all time of rock and roll
The influence of Zeppelin on Soundgarden is undeniable
Honestly just 70s music in general

They should have practiced a little more
Cool this is when Hiro was still their bassist. Never really liked them after he left. "Ultra Mega OK" and "Louder then Love" were their peak LPs.

And Beyond the wheel is/was/and always will be the best song.
