@@joshforest304 You're right - I underrated how well they did in the Aus charts. I guess I am a little surprised how little attention it gets today then :)
More than 20 years later, I realized that Silverchair was amazingly good in recording and alive. I feel guilty for ignoring them. Maybe I was busy listening to other bands, but... I didn't pay the attention they deserved.
Think of it this way: Perhaps they weren’t meant for you at that time? Now they are. They have always been a band that are there in people’s lives when they are meant to be there. Even recently in the past few years Dan came back into mine and my friends lives when he was ‘meant’ to. Just like when silverchair was active. Enjoy them and embrace them now. You are meant to. 😊
I was a fan but now 2023 I’m like all here watching all their stuff and also feeling like damn I “ missed “ them. Was totally into Soundgarden ACDC Priest.. I’m here now though and they are so awesome . Watch Daniel John’s how he is now, he looks different but this beautiful boy is still in there :)
@@Joemcncheese Did you ever consider what RUclips serves up as videos to watch is from a very small pool of videos. They are expert at hiding so much content away from a search query. Don't blame me, blame Google
In an interview he said he always found this song a challenge live vocally. It’s a killer vocal on the record n I think he crushed in this performance. The outro smash of freak n Y2K was a nice cap too. Guitar tone is perfection
When I watch things like this I can't help but think the WHOLE world has been robbed of such a brilliant band! The fact that these guys have fallen out with each other is a real shame! 2002 was Silverchair's year!
I can understand it though. They started together when they were just 13 year old kids, not much life had happened to them yet. Who were you when you were 13 & who are you today? Imagine spending your whole life living in the shadow of something you accomplished in your teens when you were a very different person. And to keep the ball rolling the fans just wanted you to play 10 songs you thought were pretty neat as a teenager / in your early-20s that you've played thousands of times since, maybe meant something to you at the time, but now you're thoroughly jaded by it & maybe even a little embarrassed. From the outside, seemed to me like Daniel felt restless & constrained by the fact that Silverchair was a rock band, while the other two were along for the ride but maybe just wanted a normal life & didn't enjoy the direction Daniel was heading creatively anymore - judging from what he's done in Young Modern onwards, neither do I. It definitely sounds like he's making music for himself now & I'm glad if that makes him happy, but I don't think there's a way to have kept what most people enjoyed about Silverchair without erasing who Daniel Johns is as a person after the age of 23. So it was good while it lasted, and considering it was the band equivalent of child actors, it could've ended much worse than just fizzling out.
Daniel, many thanks for all the amazing music you made through your career. I know you're not the happiest person on Earth these days and carry the burden of young stardom but you have helped so many of us with your music throughout these years.
Back in 1997 came across this band completely by accident. I had bought "Freak show" and it layed around for awhile but when I did listen to it I was an instant fan
Massively underrated band, even by myself when they were around. I was pretty young, but I should have known better lol. Really phenomenal choices that they were making at that young an age.
This was right as Daniel was starting to suffer from his reactive arthritis, hence why he's not moving as much as he normally would. Great performance considering those circumstances
A lot of folks compared Silver Chair to Nirvana. Sure, Nirvana were no doubt a huge influence on them, but Daniel Johns (other than kinda looking a little like Kurt Cobain)... sang much better and absolutely flattened Cobain as a guitar player. In fact, I'd go as far as to compare Daniel Johns' talent to that of the late Jeff Buckley.
@@yommmrrBuckley couldn’t touch Daniel Johns as a songwriter. Grace was collaborative writing with others and lyrically Sketches is terrible. He had a nice voice and could shred.
In so many ways I don't think Australia was ready for Diorama era Silverchair. The album ages like fine wine.
It was very successful in Australia. USA wasn't ready for it. And yet they loved 'Straight Lines'!!

This performance was sick i didn't expect those changes, definitively they were one the best bands out there, love it
I love this song so much, Daniel is a master when composing vocal melodies. Sings so well.
So true!

Guns roses, O Axl é incomparável, só mesmo Kurt Cobain pra bater de frente.

What a great vocal performance.
And drumming
How lucky these people in the crowd are to listen to this brilliant live song. I bet they look back now and realise this. Well done, just amazing.
Atleast they not holding phone
This needs more views and recognition! Phenomenal performance.
My favorite Silverchair songs!! The transitions are impeccably done!!
1. Without You
2. Freak
3. Anthem for the Year 2000
The switch to Freak at the end was a pleasant surprise
This is pure gold!
