I think the majority of todays users are buying blind. To me its not a problem. Why? Lets be real. No matter what fragrance you are going to buy, you are not going to be disappointed (maybe of Kouros), but else? I mean whats your point, "oh no, I baught the false flanker"? I bet with any regular perfume user, no one will get a bad fragrance that they dont like even if bought blind. ❤ I luv you. I really do. 😂
I am on a strict perfume no buy until i finish 5 bottles in my 10 bottle collection. Nowadays i have a no blind buy rule because i have regretted all blind buys. I want to cull them from 10 bottles to maximum 4. 2 for Autumn winter, 2 for spring summer. I miss how i could use my perfumes for years and really appreciate my fragrances instead of always looking for the "next hit"
Great conversation! ❤ I realized I have a problem when, in January 2021, I had 2 perfumes and in December of that same year, I got to 150 bottles. That’s when I realized this nonsense needed to stop. I’m now at 35 bottles. It’s still a bit too much, but I’m not putting too much pressure on myself, I will keep decluttering from time to time and I will hopefully eventually get to around 20, which seems like a good number to me!
The ego wants to want more than it wants to have. Be it fragrances, watches, handbags, cars . Its addiction / hedonic treadmill at work and will never lead to sustainable happiness. Fragrance rotation, an upper limit of bottles, savouring, buying at a milestone, sampling, matching a fragrances to an outfit, selling to buy and other interests - are some of the ways I make it work without being mildy autistic. The most difficult negotiation is often the one we have with ourselves.
That is so true. There is a brief moment of having acquired an object of addiction, but it is fleeting and then on to the next acquisition. It sparks TEMPORARY joy. Like 10 minutes. And then off to the next. It is not worth it.
Im at around 25 perfumes atm and most have been blind buys, i think im hooked on the watching reviews on RUclips then ordering and the excitement of waiting to see if like it of not it all started after stopped a more serious addiction and its got me through a difficult time but its time to get a grip now i think, thanks for doing this video some really good advice.
A great talk. It’s also nice for me to discover someone who discusses perfumes who likes pretty fragrances and hasn’t fallen into the “niche trap” of promoting truly awful and strange-smelling scents. Heavy oud comes to mind or perfumes that make a grown woman smell like a cake or pie. Thank you for your work.
Try "Lune Feline" from Atelier Des Ors.. it smells like Balsamic Vinegar salad dressing mixed with Raw Vanilla. It made my roomate run to the window gasping for air. lol 😅
Scary to see how many people got it during covid. I also went from 10 to 40 perfumes in 2020. Half of them blind buys that I diddn't even like! Decluttered a lot and am back to 20ish perfumes. I still struggle with wanting to try new ones but my BF helped me realize that I dont need any more. I have to use one up first
For me, it's definitely a shopping addiction/filling a void/or control issue (a combination maybe). It's been books for the most part in the past, dolls/figures, perfume on and off. Perfume in particular is the most "seductive" of the purchasable addictions because it thrills the brain/senses on multiple levels. For me, the research part, looking into the notes, reading reviews, etc is a major part of the fun. Then ordering is another. Actually using the perfume (and it lasts so long as it obviously has multiple uses in one bottle), comparing it to other fragrances. Perfume/fragrance hits in a way that other shopping addictions so not. And there so many of them. Definitely gotta' be extra careful/set limits with yourself.
Yeah, Ive just started and acquired about 13 new fragrances within a 2 month period and I'm already feeling the urge to "get just one more to complete my collection " I need to stop now! Lol
I spent 2 grand on fragrances in the past year, including a bunch of blind buys. I think I am addicted, so I'm going to have to take a break. Thanks for the awareness.
I have spend $4k the last 7 months. My Dad died in May and it's been a much needed distraction. I'm trying to "get a grip" but that hasn't happened quite yet.
I love exploring perfumes with different vibes, and now I have around 40 bottles! About 30 of them smell quite different from each other. I think I'll continue buying perfumes that offer unique scents compared to what I already own. Like you said, I wouldn't buy two or three rose fragrances, for example. And now I'm also sticking to smaller bottles so I can satisfy my curiosity and try even more scents.
I only own 1 perfume brand and only buy a fragrance I am interested in that house . Most fragrance houses usually copy each other or have a similar scent profile . Just sticking to 1 brand ensure that I don’t own 2 fragrances that smell similar. Also, it’s a niche brand so I don’t have to worry about flankers being released every 6 months or a year
Love this video. I have made a conscious decision to be content with the collection I already have. I have watched my young innocent love of having only 2-3 bottles transform into a beast of having over 100 bottles and being full of anxiety. I agree with so much that you have said here.... I typically don't care for what's trending either. Sampling has given me so much control over my investment into a fragrance purchase. No more 100ml bottles... I love 30 and 50mls. I've deleted Fragrantica, Mercari and Poshmark. I feel better already. Thanks for sharing!
yup I'm addicted but I stopped I only wear 1 perfume but a few bbw bottles but I'm getting rid of those too.....and I blocked all collectors and hoarders on all my social media its toxic behavior....I'm done
I've got a MASSIVE problem with perfume addiction. I'll buy a clone first to see if I like a perfume and if I do I'll sometimes order the real one but mostly I buy back ups of the clone. I'm obsessed with buying Middle Eastern perfumes, from Lattafa, Fragrance World etc. If I get one I really like I'll buy 2 or 3 back ups incase it gets discontinued before I can buy it again. I'm so scared of running out. Then I'll want to try out another one, so I'll order a sample or a dupe to see if I like that one, I'll love it, panic that I'll not have it one day so try and buy as much as possible and the cycle continues. I bought 11 bottles last week and I've got 2 more coming tomorrow. Last week's were nearly all back ups, only two of them were new ones but because I only got one each and I really like them, guess what? Yep, I need back ups of those two and that's what one of the one's I've ordered today is. Plus I ordered a 30ml of a perfume I wasn't that bothered about and I've never even tried but if I end up loving that I'll feel the need to stock up on it. I've literally got enough perfume to last a normal person several lifetimes. I've still got a few others on my wish list for winter aswell. I used to have one signature scent that I wore all year, every year, but somehow it spiraled into this. The worst part is that I'm not rich, at all, so luckily I'm only buying perfumes between £20-60 mostly but I've bought some that are over £300. I could never declutter any of them, even ones I've not worn in ages and probably never will, just incase. It's pretty much obsessive compulsive behaviour. At one time I knew I couldn't afford expensive, niche, perfumes so I didn't really think about it but once clones, dupes, perfume oil impressions etc made them accessible to me, I just went mad. I am starting therapy soon, not for this, but for the underlying reason that probably makes me behave this way. I've been addicted to much more harmful things in the past so it's not surprising that I'm addicted to perfume now. Plus, it makes me happy. When I smell good and smell a new perfume, it gives me a buzz. It is like a drug in a way, it releases the same chemical in the brain.
Hug! 🤗 That sounds pretty difficult. I really hope therapy will help you 🩷 Wishing you all the best for the future! Remember even the best perfume in the world is not going to make you happy and fulfilled in the long run. Hope you can work things out and still get to enjoy the occasional perfume, without feeling like it’s a necessity but rather a bit of fun 🌸
You make some really good points here and it’s a slippery slope when we start buying or collecting anything 🤷♀️the pandemic saw me go down a bit of a rabbit hole and between blind buying and not always loving them ,I would declutter and then buy more 🤦♀️ I probably has over 100 perfumes so I pulled myself back in and now I have about 30 so I want to keep it around there .
Addiction to buying perfumes, which are chemicals that may be harmful to health, is a bad behavioral habit and destroys money..... Thank you for your honest advice.
Rose, you are beautiful. You are also on target about getting addicted to fragrances. I often wonder if the manufacturers put something in their products that encourages addiction. 🤔
After a year of going down the rabbit hole of trying and buying, I learned several things. 1. I was indeed becoming addicted, but stopped myself. 2. SAMPLE! 3. What scent profiles appeal to me, (and there is more than one). 4. What scent profiles do not appeal to me. 5. Just because a fragrance influencer says it is a “must have”, their tastes were often different from mine. 5. How much I was willing to pay. 6. My “signature” scent ended up being from a small chain clothing outlet, and was under $20! I bought 10 backups, and have already gone through 2 bottles in a year. I always go back to it and layer it with other fragrances. 7. I wear fragrances for ME, and no one else. 8. So, only buy fragrances that I LOVE, not just like. There are more, but those are the primary things I have learned. There is currently 1 fragrance that I love and want, but it is out of my range of what I am willing to spend for a bottle. Time will tell if I actually end up breaking my rule. I am glad I caught myself before becoming totally addicted.
I currently have 34 fragrances. I normally buy them at discounters & on top of that I purchase them with rewards points. I normally don’t pay for them. I have only purchased 4 at retail price.
Me too. I only have 38. I was buying to many blind buys that i never would’ve bought. Then i got cheap going to TjMaxx and Burlington. Then clones. Some clones are better but most aren’t worth the money. Now im testing everything and buying niche originals.
A very thoughtful and mindful topic 🙏😌 I think a lot of us need to be reminded of our habits in general. During and post covid people were going crazy in lots of ways, especially over spending 🤪 🤑 Time to get a grip and feel happy with what we already have, which is already so much!! 😂 Btw, I'm saying this all about me with zero judgement ✌️xx
I’m addicted and my collection is out of control from 2020 where I had about fifty to now over 400 🤦🏼♀️ I seriously need to stop but I can’t I start getting moody if I don’t buy a fragrance at least once a week
Very good video. I have 30 fragrances (and some body sprays) but wish I had 90! I would spend my last dollar on fragrance. I have to order samples or travel size -- of course then I often want the $100 bottle. Yes, I'd say I'm kinda addicted.
Great video, as I was about to go crazy for Black Friday and add a few frags I love which that are on offer as it’s so tempting, it’s financially irresponsible and I don’t “need them” also sampling is so much fun! I’m not addicted but there was a point it was getting a bit crazy! Your voice is very calming btw ❤❤
I use to be that way with Coco Channel, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess, and Dior Hypnotic never again. I went through all the Bottles in a year including body sprays until I found myself running from department store and so on it n half of Tennessee when I was living there it was ridiculous. I was the reverse.its buying just 2 is wasting my money. Then I went to bath and Bodyworks and bought this body spray called vanilla Noir and I sprayed within 3 minutes it burned I thought it was that day.so intred again a couple of days when I went to it it burned again, I was hurt and had to toss it out. All because they discontinued the Warm vanilla sugar that I used for a while because I ran out of perfume s from using it too much. In 2022 I did rebuy 2 out of the 3 and I only use them one day out of the year now. I went to Amazon and rebought so I use the bronze Goddess in Nov and the dior poison hypnotic in April.im cool plus other perfumes too. If I had to deal with a job I would be using Victoria Secret body sprays and have a bottle for each month and save my perfumes for day off . I do have a lot of them but I'm very conservative with my fragrance and I'm learning not to get stressed out over them as I get older.
Take it from me. I liked the vibe of Vanille Havane from recommendations, but that stuff is awful. Might as well filter some liquor through a fresh cigar and spray that on. 😂 Always sample.
Sampling has saved me a lot of money. I’m trying not to blind buy. Great video.
Same! Thank you!! 🥰🥰😊

Big facts….
@@2023lvj I've bought dozens of fragrances that I've ended up not liking AT ALL. I just got Snif Vanilla Vice and it's literally nauseous to me
I am on a strict perfume no buy until i finish 5 bottles in my 10 bottle collection. Nowadays i have a no blind buy rule because i have regretted all blind buys. What a timely video. I’m currently doing a “no buy ‘til July.” It has helped me question my buying habits while helping me enjoy what I already have.❤

Only need 31 one for each day of the month , simple as that, plenty enough variety and enough different functions to cover it all.
Sounds like a good number 🙌
