Very nice insight thanks Damian ! This is definitely a crazy firmware update.
It really is!
Love this video! Very curious for BMD at NAB
Me too!!
I have no idea why the “delete in camera” feature is such a big deal. In-camera file management-particularly on set-takes your head out of the shoot and futzing with file management in camera is prone to error (aka oops I deleted the wrong clip!). Besides, you never know when even a few seconds of an otherwise “bad” take gives the editor just what they need to fix a problem with the other footage. Deleting material that’s in the can should be a last resort. ** Adding the camera to cloud features to the whole pocket line is a nice surprise. I know they guaranteed this for the full frame CC, but I don’t think they said anything about the rest of the line. And keep in mind, the first BMD camera with the C2C beta features installed was the G2 Broadcast Ursa and that was maybe six months ago. It will be interesting to see what they introduce at NAB this year, if anything, and I will be kinda shocked if they introduce autofocus even though the competition is coming at them from every direction with IBIS, subject detect autofocus and internal variable NDs. They are conservative in general, and a lot of their camera decisions are driven by the live broadcast market (operator controlled focus demand systems rather than autofocus) instead of cine, but they do need to start showing us how the L-mount will fit into their plans on the larger camera bodies. Will they do an over/under detachable PL like Sony has done? That would be a positive step. But with them, it always seems hard to guess what they plan to do next.
I have a sneaky feeling this year it will be Resolve 19.
I feel the clip deletion feature is a nice quality of life add-on. I agree that it's best practice not to delete clips when on bigger sets, but I can see this being useful for solo shooters for example. I've had a couple instances where I accidently forgot to hit stop on the record on my Pocket 4k, and it took up space on my drive that I could have used for more clips. Would have been nice in that moment.
@@jermzamiah2021 There’s nothing wrong with having the feature certainly, but to me (even when working solo) deleting in camera is a bad habit to develop. Simply because it’s too easy to make an irreparable error towards the end of the day when you’re tired and/or in a hurry and poof the best take is gone. It’s just bad practice because you may do it right 100 times in a row, but then oops and you lose a paycheck. Always in paid work you want margins of data safety against oops. Instead, always have 3 times as much card/SSD capacity on hand than you think you need. Storage is cheap and if you delete the wrong thing on your computer later, most of the time there will be a trash can available to instantly recover from the mistake-not so much on the camera. But even on a computer, storage is cheap. Have plenty of SDD capacity on hand and save your “mistakes”. You just never know what may come in handy when finishing an edit.
@@EntrNmHre I’ve been waiting for a next iteration of Fairlight which incorporates a complete MIDI workflow. That’s what I want more than anything in a Resolve 19.
hey thats a great request
Question. For the web cam feature, is that also available/usable for Twitch streams?
I cant see why not
Thanks, need help what kind of cable do i need to use bmpcc as a webcam? Thanks
Depends, how are you trying to connect it and what system are you using. If its a mac, you just need a USBC cable.
Uploading Raw or ProRes files to the clould from your phone seems not workable but if they gave you a h265 proxie feature for it would be amazing
imagine you data bill - jesus
This is the craziest cinema update that Blackmagic Design has announced in a long time, BUT I think this says a lot more about what they are going to release at NAB 2024. Let me know your thoughts.
There are now extra files recorded on my 6kpro, and on upload to Resolve, a LUT appears to have been applied if these extra files are uploaded. Can't see any info on this as yet.
I believe thats because they are smaller proxies files with the LUT from camera applied and should be separate from your RAW files
@@EntrNmHre I thought they might be proxies, but they don't respond to commands like disable all proxies, nor is there the expected linked symbol on the clips. I don't see the point in having the on camera lut applied in post, as the only way I can see to get rid of it is to remove these extra files or not upload them in the first place.
@@aulcamedia The camera lut sidecar info is so colourist cant load the “showlut” as a quick reference and start point, and in some cases, when projects dont go to grade, the edits can set a the intended look from camera…hope this helps.
Ahh snap! Had the idea to check if one can finally see the stills in the menu that got shot.. would have made sense.. but naw.. sadly no xD
oh snap, yes
If anyone can figure out how to get it working as a UVC device I'm all ears!
The network support is bloody handy either way 😍
As someone who lives on the east coast and editing partner lives on the west, yes, the cloud could be a very useful tool.
Very true!
Blackmagic its amazing. I Wish that the ultimate 6K FF can record in prores and h265
Super good point - I forgot to mention that!
You can simply turn the camera on and back off with the webcam setting turned on, or switch camera inputs on your webcam software back and forth and it should be recognized!
In theory….
I’m literally on the verge of buying a bmpcc, I’m not sure whether to wait now! 😂
I would wait another 3 weeks and see what plays out.
That’s the plan ! 😂
@@BritishBrassBandinguk you are wise beyond your years….
@@EntrNmHre I’m nearly 40 lol!
Great channel btw!
Camera to cloud I will use for sure, just not for narrative.
I can see it being very useful for commercials and editorials that have a super fast turn around or need remote client approval, EP’s and other stakeholders….but I am with you, for narrative …. there would just be way to much to upload per day
Hopefully they’re able to give the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2 Generation 5 Color Science.
? Is that still a thing?
@@EntrNmHre it’s still running on Generation 4
@@criminalvictory oh….but in resolve can’t you remap the BRAW to gen 5?
@@EntrNmHre you can actually, but just in perspective of convienence, itll be cool if they updated the firmware to be GEN 5 right through the camera instead of doing it in post.
@@criminalvictory Agreed its always good to see exactly what you are getting
It also works as a FaceTime webcam when plugged into iPad or iPhone through usb-c.
It was instantly recognized in obs as well, I’m selling my webcam lol
haha, nice one - I have to try the ipad out….
Ursa cameras got this update a couple of months back
What about the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2?
exactly
@@criminalvictory sorry not all Ursa Cameras got the upgrade but just the URSA Broadcast G2
The ursa broadcast g2 got that update a while ago. So I wouldn’t say all ursas are dead ;)
hahaha, oh man you made me laugh….thanks
no upgrade to bmpcc4 dark screen problem
this is not something I have experienced…..
that might be the end of the entire line.... with last mager update
Oh I hope you aren’t wrong, but wouldn’t be surprised.
What about the heat 🤔
good point
i just use my lidar so webcam is awesome
I was thinking the same, have you used it with your camera as a webcam?
Tried installing the Camera Setup on WIndows 10 Pro, part way through install a pop up window appears prompting for filename "camera_installer_n.nn", that file doesn't exist and installer quits. Anyone else getting this error?
oh that doesn't sound good…..
@@EntrNmHre Tried downloading for different BMD sites, same issue. Will try again in day or two.
@@raywatts5702 thats super odd, if it continues tomorrow hit up BMD...
@@EntrNmHre Figured it out. In the BMD zipped folder there's a hidden folder called Content. My default view is not to view hidden items so when I copied the files from the zipped folder the hidden Content folder wasn't being copied across. When I turn on view hidden items in File Explorer I could copy that folder across and then it installed ok.
@@raywatts5702 There you see, I would have never figured that out as a MAC user trying to help a PC guy, but now I know… sounds like a real pain for such a simple fix in the end...
Would really love a Blackmagic Hybrid Cinema Camera 8K.
60 MP Sensor with OLPF, global Shutter and thus the ability to shoot stills in a 60 MP resolution.
wouldnt that be nice...
black magic peaked with the bmpcc. original.
That Fairchild DGO sensor….
