I am a doctor by profession but photography is my hobby and I have a passion for it. Recently I went on a hiking trip with my wife and by then I had seen almost all your long exposure and landscape photography videos. I used as much as I learned from your videos to take long exposure shots. I had captured some really good pics with it. Thanks for the inspiration.

I only took up photography in the past 18 months or so.. I always had an interest but had no clue how to get good results.. I, of course came to the college of RUclips and found your good self and discovered long exposures.. I loved them straight away.. and now, thanks to your videos I practise it almost every time I go out, which is really not enough.. I need to get out more often.. but I am learning and the results are getting better.. thanks for all the great tips.

Einfach wunderbare Bilder! Meine Hochachtung! So wird Photographieren zur Kunst!

Anyone can set their camera in program and take a very nice snapshot, but to create a master piece such as your beautiful photos ) long Exposure) is truly an art form. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, you are helping photographers become better then they could imagine including myself. Keep the great videos coming. Grazie mille per la tua conoscenza e tempo. La tua fotografia è davvero magistrale. I hope I got that right :)

I think its very generous and selfless of you to give absolutely free lessons and tips to a wide and open forum. Especially when it comes from a uniquely creative person as yourself backed by years of experience which cannot be bought.
Worth saying the idea of people taking snap shots using their smartphone taking offence not to be called photographers , should not be a topic , since only when you're truly present yourself to the depth of photography you realize how wide the gap between snap and PHOTOGRAPH as work of art is!

For me, long exposure photography takes landscape photography to a different level. If you travel to a well known spot and take the same image as a hundred people before, then the only image which will stand out is the first image. So doing something different, whether it’s long exposure or introducing a different element to the composition reignites that location. Thanks Attilio.

Thanks again Attilio for this channel! It’s so important for me and I think for all your followers. After following your tips for a while I can say that, for me, nothing is comparable to going out and search, setting the camera with the right workflow, and just wait with the remote shutter release in my hand. It’s a sort of a really good feeling... stay there, watch the scene in front of me and waiting for the result. Nothing comparable with a single shot!! It’s a path leading to something... that’s the inspiration you gave us!!!

i started experimenting with LE after watching your videos. i bought some budget ND filters from Amazon. the reason i like it is partly because of the reason you mention, serenity. but more so, i like the ethereal, or other worldly quality of the more successful efforts.

I think you are absolutely right, there's nothing worse than seeing lots of similar photos of the same scene, long exposure photography and all of it's variables gives us a way to create something different, something eye-catching and memorable. Really pleased you are doing this series, can't wait until the next video.

Your observation that long exposure photography requires a certain skill level and a minimum set of equipment, which is yet another way to differentiate it from the point and shoot pictures that dominate the internet, is simple, obvious (when pointed out) but very important.
Your creativity, humanity and character shines through in your videos Attilo and as a result your pictures are sublime.

I find that long exposures often stir a feeling in the viewer more than one that freezes all motion. I also love the richness in the color that long exposures often have. I want the viewers of my photography to not only see a beautiful picture but to have an emotional reaction as well. I think that often, long exposures will help create the results I desire.

I've gotten fairly serious about long exposure photography over the last year, and I've gotten some images I'm really happy with. On a recent trip to Maine, I used long exposure several times to turn an already smooth lake refection into a virtual mirror. A red dawn seascape became ethereal! I see lots more long exposure shooting in my future. It definitely brings out the painter in me!

My Friend, I totally agree with you and am so happy you shared your vision about the expression of "serenity" in your work. I believe that the "art" of photography has to go beyond the aspect of "literal rendition" as (Ansel Adams) described it and into the realm of "emotional impact". Of all the criteria involved with the development of (two dimensional ) art, composition, color, sharpness, highlight/shadow detail, the feeling of light, I believe impact is the most important.

I like long exposure photography as it allows me to spend more time in the ever changing nature.

Great videos, please feel free to be VERY specific about the mechanics of setting up the shots from both the artistic and technical side of long exposure photography if I may be so bold to suggest. Through the view finder or rear screen shots would be cool. You have a very precise and calming way of explaining things and I do enjoy the videos very much. I just happen to think more technical and hope for the best with my semi lack of creativity. Again, thank you for taking the time to teach those of us that need help to improve our passion.

I think its great that you try and help the average photographers like me. I've watched most of your videos and enjoy them very much. Starting at what length exposure do you consider to be a long exposure photograph. Thanks

Here in the Tampa FL area so lots of water around here to practice LE photography. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. I look forward to learning more on this topic!

What - no homework on the first day? ;-) I love doing a sub-genre of long exposure photography - night time photography, especially in the Blue Hour. Scenes that look chaotic and "noisy" during the day take on a whole new and exciting look at night. Astrophotography with star trails is great, especially when shooting film, which does not require extensive manipulation in Photoshop after the fact. (And if you have a pre-1980's manual camera with mechanical shutters, it doesn't burn through batteries neither.) During the day, long exposure photography can remove people from a scene and make an urban scene look somewhat post-apocalyptic (where are the people?) I also like shooting running/moving water scenes, especially in calm or misty conditions. I look forward to your master-class on this subject!

@@AttilioRuffo Should be interesting with winter approaching and daylight hours getting much shorter. Mother Nature has a very effective way to smooth out water as well - it's called freezing temperatures. I hope I get those Vallerret winter gloves that are on my Christmas Wish List. ;-)
