Just finished watching all the 4 episodes on long exposure photography and wanted to say, huge thanks Attilio!! Very informative, so pleasant to watch and a great inspiration.
Thank you Attilio for the continuation of your photography tutorials. We all need to appreciate the planning, time and effort you put into each video. I live on an island off the coast of Queensland in Australia, so have lots of seascape long exposure opportunities both here and on the mainland sea coast. Your tutorials have been amazingly invaluable to me in improving my images. Please keep doing these, you really are highly valued as a teacher.
Another great video. You sir, are the reason I started to experiment with long exposure and now it is one of my favorite styles to shoot. I'm glad you are back at it.
Having the histogram on the screen before taking the picture is a great thing. That's something I miss in my Nikon D7100... Very good video Attilio. Fantastic place and photos. Thank you for sharing my friend
Thank you Attilio! I'm a fan and I love to look at your videos, they are so very informative and inspirational and they are a kind of meditation too. I want to master the long exposure and you bring me confidence, I already did some long exposure work, but my actual photo challenge is to master this art.
Fantastic teaching video. Thank you for sharing with us. You got me into Long Exposure photography three years ago and I love it. Thank you for the inspiration. So glad you are feeling better.
"... otto minuti al tramonto, questo significa che ... dovrò cambiare la batteria, m..." 😁 Grande, Attilio 👍 Bel video, e grazie per i preziosi consigli 👋
If I may I would like to add something about the histogram (since is so important). The in-camera histogram is based upon the JPEG preview. The image displayed on your screen when LR opens a raw file is one among a near countless possible interpretations of the raw data. The histogram displayed by LR is based on the current processed interpretation of the raw data that is displayed on your monitor. This translates into two things: 1st when you expose to the right, you can expose even 'further right' since the JPEG has a 10 stop dynamic range on average whilst the D810 has 14.8 stops when shooting RAW. This makes space for 'pushing' the histogram to the far right without burning the whites. 2nd when you open the image in Lightroom, you often notice that the histogram is leaning towards the left, the reason being is that Lr is reading the RAW file histogram whilst the one on the back of your D810 (or any camera for that matter) is based on a JPEG preview.
Hi Attilio: Thanks for creating and sharing this video. I love long exposure photography so it was wonderful to see this episode. What a wonderful location! Beautiful images. Cheers, Keith
Hi Attilio just came across your channel in the last two days and haven’t stopped watching these videos..Thank you so much for all this information and your experience. Not sure you have done one on the Reverse ND filter unless i have not come across it yet Many Thanks again Chris
Perfect timing for this video! I learned a lot and just in time for my trip to the Amalfi. My wife bought a large frame 61x91cm waiting for a long exposure print of something in the Amalfi, has the wall picked out also, the pressure is on. Thank you Attilio for all your help and artistic experience.
Thanks for another great video with long exposure. You explain so well how to go aboat and having controll over the histogram means that the picture will be good. It takes a lot of practice but its great fun to se how the pictures get better and better.
Yet another brilliant video for long exposure. And I just couldn't help but smile: all set up, ND filters assembled, exposure time calculated, few minutes to sunset and the battery goes flat. It's good to see it happens to the best and I can now consider myself a better photographer!!!
Attilio you make long exposure photography easy to understand. Going to western NC this fall to take some waterfall pictures. Can’t wait to apply what you’ve taught me.
Thanks for another sharp to the point explanation of using multiple filters and using the Histogram on the spot to get a perfect exposure and less amount of post processing
Nice video.. the place you shot was awesome. The long exposure works great with those filters.. thanks for the tip of using the histogram . I defenitly will work it that way too.
That was a very interesting tutorial sir and appreciated too. Also, I will always remember to have a fully loaded battery. (very funny bit in your video). 👍
Hi Attilio! Glad to see you are back and in the right place again. I have a question regarding the metering of this scene: You must be using matrix metering, am I right? Your explanation of exposing as far to the right as possible without clipping was a key point in this video.
Great Video Attilio. I would´ve liked to have seen how you took a Panoramic long-exposure photo at sunset. Perhaps, you could show it in a future video.
Ahh the dreaded battery fail 😩 How many times has that happened to me just as the settings are dialled in and the finger is poised on the shutter release…… Another great episode @Attilio, keep them coming 👍
I can appreciate that you may have watched other pros channels and caught their mistakes. I am appreciative of the different setbacks that they face, like hiking 2 1/2 miles up a mountain to find that they forgot their data cards or batteries. (I've not done wither but have forgotten that I switched the quick mount plate on the camera base and had no way to use my tripod)...I loved your results. I am always ready for more. I understand it's not always fun to make a video, but never can get enough. I always want yours to be longer. I love my D810, but am tempted to find an 850, used, with low shutter count.. great tips on filters. Haven't used my filters for some time.... take care and thanks, again Attilio
Good morning , what a great video. I started follwoing you a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that I like the way you explain things and also the results(captures). I guess taht I would be theoretically able to get such gret pics as well. Unfortunately I do not live on the sea. Greetings from Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) Christian
A very nice look at how to figure out proper exposure. I love using the ND Calculator app that I only discovered through watching your videos in the past. Sometimes it does take a little work getting the exposure correct, even after using the app. Especially because I use a Canon R6 that doesn't have the live view that Nikons have. Wonderful video.
Thanks for the great video and your explanations, this is very helpful. I'm looking forward to the next video from you 👍 Take care 🍷 Best regards from Germany ☀️
Nice images great video because of your time and effort to bring these amazing videos here this is why i love doing long exposure photography because of you tnx so much again for sharing
Another great video Attilio. Now I live in Latina and the beach isn't so good for long exposure photography. Lacks of interesting subjects in the sea and too much restricted areas (military zones).
I tuoi video aiutano sempre Attilio.
Thanks for sharing ! Would the test shots give better results when fitting the ND grad filter to lose the highlights from the sky a bit in the histogram and have better preview of the exposure length ?
Thanks for an enjoyable and educational video. Can you please discuss placement of the grad filter. I’m using Nisi medium and hard grads and hiding the filter line has been challenging. Maybe it’s easier with a soft grad. I have that same filter system and it is excellent. Thanks.
Hi Mr I really liked the video and your amazing long exposure !! but i have a question is the nisi circular kit good quality glass? and if i have laowa 9mm f2.8 which is 49mm filter size adapting with 72mm nisi circular filter by just one ring, will that make a dark corners ?
Another very informative video Attilio, thanks. One question. Many photographers have stopped using neutral grads because of the wide dynamic range of cameras now. If they need to adjust the sky they use some simple masking in post. I would appreciate your comments on this!
Interesting video. Seems to me one could get more shots and reduce the guesswork surrounding the fading light by upping the ISO and reducing shutter time - as long as you maintain the long exposure effect. What minimum shutter speeds would you need for various scenes - flat sea, moving clouds, etc.?
Awesome video and photos as usual! Questions though? Do you allways use double exposure time in decreasing light as thumb rule? If so, how you set it if the light is increasing? Half?
Thanks for the video. Always great. When looking at the histogram and there was clipping in a test shot why couldn’t you take the test shot with the ND 3 stop grad filter and set your base exposure from that? That way you would be able to move the histogram further to the right??? Or am I over thinking it?
thanks mate. I was suggesting to take the test shot without filters to be faster..when the light is changing quickly, it is critical to speed up the workflow
Well good video well explained as usual Attilio... but honnestly I am not convinced by the filter holder with 3 filter slots... with a 6 or a 10 stop filter you can do what you want playing with the aperture and shutter. But true that this video is sponsored by NISI who needs to do some advertisement for their latest model :). Happy to see that you keep your D810 (I bought one thx to you and I still love it).
