There used to be about 20 Ponderosas in Puerto Rico. After the CoVid-19 pandemic most closed and never reopened. There are still about 5 or 6, but they have a simplified menu. There is a breakfast buffet, but after about 12:00 there is just a salad bar, albeit a good salad bar with some deserts.
Amazing! We once went on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Florida during April 2000 and stayed in Kissimmee. It was me, my mum, my sister, my grandad, my aunt and uncle. We ate at this exact Ponderosa a lot. My sister who was only 8 at the time and fussy, would only eat the ham cubes and jelly (jello) cubes. I was reminiscing about those cubes today and wanted to show my husband a picture, can't believe I found this of the exact place! Coming from the suburban UK at that point we had no places like this, I also remember we were very wowed by the Wal-mart there, we had never seen a supermarket that big and that sold jewellery, home items, guns etc. My grandad passed away in 2010 so this video was a nice reminder of him too. Thanks for the unintended trip down memory lane, crazy how it's the last one left. Best wishes from New Zealand.
I loved going to either the Ponderosa or Bonanza steakhouse. It made think about Little Joe, Hoss, Adam and Pa Cartwright..lol. Dan Blocker actually started the chain with one in Connecticut. Always a great meal there. Everything ya'll had looked so very good, and fresh! Glad ya'll are enjoying your vacation. Looking forward to where else you will be taking us. Ya'll have an awesome week ahead and God bless!
That's really cool - we had no idea that Dan Blocker started the chain. We're with you - we always hear the Bonanza theme song whenever we think of Ponderosa. The food was good and fresh (aside from the chicken wings. We're still not sure what was going on with those). Thanks for joining us on these adventures. We hope that you had a great weekend, Cathy. God bless!!
I used to love eating at Ponderosa, their buffet was so good! In PA we have a place called Hoss’s, it has a good soup and salad bar, but nothing like Ponderosa…and yes I remember how good the chicken wings were! Hope you guys are having a great time in FL!

Grew up on Ponderosa every weekend after church as a kid, sadly as you know the one in Hillsboro is the only one left here in Ohio. Ponderosa had the best all you can eat salad bar.
The one is Hillsboro is so good. It's sad to see Ponderosas closing down at this rate. So many great memories. Thanks for watchign, Chris. We hope that you had a great weekend.
Brent, really enjoyed your video! I'll pass on the mushrooms and lobster. Everything else looked so good. I have to have mustard on my 🌭. Loved the boys reviews as always! I wonder if there's a ponderosa in OKC.
Usually Henry uses both ketchup and mustard on his hot dogs, but smothered it in ketchup on this day lol. Sadly, there aren't any Ponderosas remaining in Oklahoma. We just looked and the closest one to you is in Vandalia, Illinios. We hope that you had a wonderful weekend, Carla! Thanks so much for watching.

Ponderosa takes me back to my childhood in the 90s. Although the selection we have here in Qatar is different than what's in the U.S. especially the sweets section.
my brother loved ponderosa as a kid. always chose that place for his birthday. our local one is now a mexican restaurant:/ and i love henry’s intro - “woooo”
This location didn't have an ice cream bar but the one in HIllsboro, Ohio did. We've never seen a Ponderosa without one until this location.@@heatherrowe4591
We're sorry to hear this. The one that was closest to us growing up is now a Mexican Restaurant as well. It's call El Dorados and while their food is good, we wish it was still a Ponderosa.
Michigan still has the most Ponderosas of any state, followed behind with Ohio - which has 3. We're glad to hear that you still get to enjoy this nolstalgic steakhouse.
We used to have a Ponderosa Steak House very close to our home. It closed and the building was renovated to a funeral home. If I need to go to a viewing, I have the smell of steaks 🥩! It has to be psychological because the steak house was our go to place being nearby.
We remember Quincy's but never had the opportunity to try them out. We just googled a picture of their yeast rolls, you weren't kidding - those look amazing!!
This place reminds me a lot of a restaurant I used to go to as a kid called Ryan’s. But looking at those prices I’m not surprised this place is almost out of business 😳
I just watched company man's video on the restaurant chain and was wondering if there were any left in florida (I'm in Tampa) and noticed the only one left close to WDW. My family and I are WDW passholders and we normally eat on property. But my partner has a lot of memories eating at ponderosa as a child. So we might just visit this place on our next trip to Disney. From what I been hearing, they are probably going to disappear for good one day, so we might as well revisit one last time.
I was so happy that the claw coughed up two balls for the boys. I respect that Gentry is a purist when it comes to Rice Krispie bars. It is sad that buffets are going out of existence. Especially in the South there were some regional buffets with fantastic home cooking.
We completely understand where you're coming from. We've been to some questionable locations before, but this one and the one up in Hillsboro were really clean. At this location, they were constantly wiping down the buffet area and tending to the buffet area. We hope that you had a great weekend, Michael!
And now there are no Ponderosa’s in Florida. We were there in their final few days. Really felt for the staff who were only given a weeks notice. Some of them had been there for many years and deserved to be treated better.❤ Hope they are okay.
Just drove by this location and it says closed for renovations. I'm guessing it will never come back. It was never the same as it was when I would go back in the 90's early 2000's but it was a bit of nostalgia. Especially since it was sitting a short distance from the shell of a former Sizzler which was a throwback to my childhood. I would stop at this location whenever I visited Florida although I missed the days you could buy a meal and add the buffet, enjoy the buffet and take your meal home. Those were the good old days. Anyway, it felt like the location has been hanging on by a string for years. Still sad to see it go, mainly because f the memories.
Their wings were so amazing. We were disappointed when the wings that we tried on this day weren't great, but the sirloin tips and lobster made up for it :) We hope that you're having an awesome week, Aerial.
Was there tonight... dirty. Food all had a skin on it. Chef came to answer what soup it was... her mouth was covered in food which flew everywhere as she spoke. We paid over 110 dollars. Staff were not interested and we were made feel unwelcome... we left without finishing a small plate of food.. disgusting and if this isn't closed soon then I would be surprised.. we have either been sick or felt sick... an embarrassment for the once good restaurant.
We're so sorry that you had a bad experience at this location. We went here when the doors were first opening so all of the food was fresh (aside from their chicken wings....we have no idea what was going on with those). Ponderosa is definitely not at the same caliber that it was in its hay day.
Thank you for the video. Personally, I think these restaurants in general offer way too many options. They should have a more limited buffet and lower the prices of the main entrees.
We agree. Although we had a good experience at this location, it was nearly empty aside from a couple of other tables. We drove by here a few days prior to visiting and we thought that they were closed down because the parking lot looked vacant.
