I agree with you on solo dining, and solo travel in general, it is very liberating and can feel very self-affirming as well! I really enjoy going to museums by myself because I don’t have to wait on someone else or feel like I should hurry because someone else is waiting. Museums are really different when you have all the time in the world to look and read and ponder the pieces you like :)
I am so happy you took us with you to Scotland as your last trip was one of my favorites. This is the perfect video to cozy up with a cup of tea and some soup when one has a cold. Thanks, Ruby!
Welcome to Scotland! I'm more of a silent watcher, so I don't usually comment. But, I loved seeing you explore Edinburgh and if you are ever in the area again you could take a train an hour south to the Scottish Borders. Lots of auld towns and houses and countryside to see. If you are interested in Walter Scott, I live in the town where he lived and was magistrate. You can visit his home and courtroom here. We have a lot of history and scenery that most people don't really know about that has inspired a lot of great literature.
I am in heaven! I adore you, Ruby, and I love Scotland with all my soul. I cried on the train when I left to come back to Brazil. Your happiness is so pure and genuine, that I could felt it through the screen 😊Please, keep being this lovely and blessed human being ❤
I found myself full-on smiling while watching your evident joy and happiness as you wandered and read by the sea in Culross. Keep staying true to yourself🥰
Yes! Her voice is sooooo soothing. I was thinking that I would love to hear her reading novels as audiobooks. That would be a wonderful side job, since she reads a lot anyway.
The next time you are in Edinburgh, you should visit an area called Stockbridge which has some lovely independent bookshops including a lovely children's bookshop called Ginger and Pickles. I think you would like the area in general too, and the botanic gardens.
Hi Ruby. I wanted to tell you how much i love your videos. It gives me such comfort and you inspire me a lot. I myself is a literature student and i absolutely adore you and your videos. Thank you for being so kind and helpful. Love u a lot. Please stay healthy and happy. I will always root for your success.
I am in a bad headspace the last days so it was nice watching your video to get me off my anxiety! I have been to Scotland once and would love to be back one day. As an autistic person, I relate so much to having to plan most portions of a trip, otherwise I am always getting stressed as well!
Lovely video, make's me melancholy for Scotland. My Mother's Scottish and I've visited allot in my youth and I miss it so much. As someone who lives by the sea, I don't mean to be negative but please never go to jetties in the darker hour's, especially with the tide level like that. their quite dangerous especially this time of year. your video was lovely and so informative as well. I didn't realise the castle in The Scottish Play was real. it's now on my list of places to visit.
Ruby, you have a gift for visual storytelling in addition to your obvious talent with words. Great place-based film and homage to October and books. Thank you,
Hi Ruby, thanks for taking us on your trip - so relaxing listening to your voice. I did have a thought whilst I was listening to you though - if you haven't already I'd suggest you look into voicing audio books - or perhaps reading books chapter by chapter here on your channel. I'd certainly love to hear you read us some classics.
I have wonderful memories of Edinburgh. It's the most beautiful city I've ever been to. The Complete World of Harry Potter. Even before I got there, I found a photo of the house on the Internet and saved it to my computer. I told myself that I must see it one day. I came to Edinburgh and suddenly I saw this exact house. Under the castle, with a beautiful garden. A brick house with a green roof. You must have seen it. I almost passed out from the emotion. And when I left for Dundee by bus, I met a beautiful red-haired girl Joanna at the station and we traveled together for about two hours. She studied literature. Beautiful experiences, perhaps the most beautiful travel moments I have ever experienced. 🍂✨🍁 I love your videos. ❤
Sat down to do some drawing and painting 🖌️, open up RUclips in hope there's something to listen to and "YES" a Ruby travel vlog, 48 minute video as well, just what I needed 😊
i'm in edinburgh now and its literally my second city on my european trip from singapore now! flew to london then now in scotland! leaving on thursday!! perfect time for this video!!!
I also struggle to be spontaneous and need a structure, I need a schedule to know what I'm going to do when I travel (and in my daily life), even if it's a rough one. So I understand you Ruby 😊

A few days in Culross looks like heaven to me. It's unlikely that I will ever make it since it's very far from Ontario Canada where I am. My husband did make it to Inverness when he was a young man. His parents were from Liverpool so he did a little tour of northern England and made a point of visiting a school friend in Edinburgh. I often get to tell me of that trip and make my jealousy quite obvious. So maybe he'll surprise me with a trip for an anniversary or something. Haha, a lady can dream. Wonderful vlog. I am so glad that even though you are introverted, that you find adventures that are your speed and you can do them solo.
Absolutely loved this video - you are such a star. I have no doubt your novel will be fantastic once finished as you have a way with words and sentiments that is truly delectable. Thank you. ❤
I grew up in Limekilns, a village you passed on the way to Culross (I recognised the fields 😂) and I used to work in Bessie’s when I was younger ! Glad you enjoyed your time 😊
Is there any part of the UK more artistic, more poetic, more granitic, more ruggedly beautiful than Scotland? Is it any wonder that you or any other author would go there to work? And, though the choice is of course yours, might it even be worth considering Edinburgh for PhD studies...? Keep exploring our country, Ruby, and let us see your perspectives!
I loved this video Ruby. I am from Pendle, so massively interested in with trials too. Witches and the trials are ingrained in us from birth! Culross is divine and I really want to visit now.
When I was teacher training I stayed in Higherford and had a view of Pendle from my bedroom. I was fascinated by the stories of the Pendle witches, so atmospheric!
Wonderful video Ruby.. Edinburgh is a grand city..one of the best. Yes the Latin phrase on the funeral cart.. 'Memento Mori' - Remember we must die. Thanks for sharing ✨✨
Nice one. On the topic of frights in museums... a stuffed polar bear was once exhibited on the upper floors of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, along with stuffed tigers shot, apparently, by King George V. I took a friend's nine-year-old daughter there once. Her mother had failed to mention that the girl was terrified of polar bears, courtesy of Philip Pullman. We all laughed about it afterwards.
Thank you!!! I love your long vlogs to Scotland. Lovely. Your ability to be so touched by MacBeth is inspiring. Did you first read this in a class? It is the first book Outlander by Diana Gabaldon that ignited my love for Scotland. Have you read it? (I’d skip the inappropriate & overly violent parts). But great historical time travel fiction. Cheers!

Another offering that is sure to delight the adoring fan club. Princess Spirulina-Bumpkin heads North (again) for another self-indulgent vacation. This time it’s more whisper than waffle from someone who seems to regard having a cup of some ghastly beverage wedged in her hand as being one of life’s essentials. What is even more questionable is her apparent need to be constantly photographing herself with her mobile phone. There are some touching moments, such as the ‘Tomorrow’ soliloquy and repeated visits to the jetty, a la ‘French Lieutenant's Woman’.
