Freida McFadden herself is a doctor so she probably wouldn't get them mixed up. Haven't read the book yet, but from my understanding, medical examiner is a job title given to a forensic pathologist. So pathologist is the profession but if they work in that capacity, their job title is a medical examiner. It doesn't have to be a licensed forensic pathologist, in some states it can be another type of medical professional, but it very often is a pathologist. Hopefully that cleared it up :D
