First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! You are so right about the cost of books. There has been a few times that I've ordered new hardcover books from Waterstone's and paid for the international shipping and it was still cheaper than getting it from Barnes and Noble with free shipping or even Amazon. I've ordered from Blackwell's before too which is also in the UK but the last time I ordered a book from them the shipping was free. Not sure how they did that when shipping is so expensive from the UK to the US. That's really sad when you can get a new book for less shipped from another country. Definately check prices on both of those sites for new books before buying them from B&N because you can save money. I can understand why Phantasma was put in the horror section because there is a whole lot of gore in it. There is romance and spice, but the "game" people play in it is like a house of horrors. So I'm not surprised you found it in there instead of the fantasy section. There is paranormal aspects and a bit of magic but I wouldn't lump it staight into fantasy. I will be curious after you read it if you agree. I'm also curious what you think of Spark of the Everflame. I saw that book talked about online several times a week for a long time and so I broke down and read it. I won't say what I thought, but I do want to know your feelings on it. One IG accound legit posted a few times a week like she was getting paid to do it before and after I read it and I was like, ENOUGH already. There are hundreds of really great fantasy books, talk about those... ok I'm done waffling. Happy Birthday again!!!

I'm really bad about reading the books I get in boxes. I need to get some bookshelves to get them all sorted. Maybe if put them all out in the open together I can chip away at them. I never even heard ot The Ivory Key. That was before I joined Owlcrate. The only books I knew of in that pile is The Warm Hands of Ghosts and Violet Made of Thorns. I agree about how their boxes tend to be the same book choices as Fairyloot being a bit annoying. I know I got a few dups that way. Not mad about getting The Crimson Moth and Heartless Hunter though. I don't know why the UK version has a different name but when that happens and I like the book I don't mind having multiple copies of it. I have several of the Harry Potter series. If you do the Goodreads thing I applaud you. There are too many that I am not interested in reading on that list.

i also chilled with Amoung the Beasts and Briars. a predictable story, but it's well written, so it didn't feel like a waste of time or anything. i also enjoyed the fairytale feel to the whole thing. and regarding A Lesson In Vengeance, is it more akin to If We Were Villains?

I cannot wait for you to get to The Buried and the Bound. I absolutely adored it and bought the sequel right away. I hope you enjoy it just as much once you get there. I feel validated for unhauling The Ivory Key without reading it. It just didn't sound like something I'd enjoy, so the fact you dnf'd it makes me feel I made the right choice. I've also been debating on doing the same with Violet Made of Thorns. The way you didn't enjoy it may sway me to give it the boot. Glad you found a book you really liked!

Oh no, I loved Violet Made of Thorns. It was supposed to be a duology so maybe it would of changed the feeling of the ending for you.

Eh. I think both storylines are equally important and I like all the twists at once. But to each their own!

The Ivory Key paperback definitely came in an Illumicrate, but omg I remember those months where it seemed like every single OC and FL book were the same. And now we're hitting another stretch. I see this blog as a success because you got to clear a few books off your shelves to make room for the new shinies, and if you like even one book out of the bunch then it's a win! The Warm Hands of Ghosts definitely gets more fantastical as it goes on, but like you said, if you don't like historical fiction you are not going to enjoy the ride to get there.

I think that The Last One At The Wedding could qualify as an unreliable narrator after looking into the meaning. I read the book and although it wasn't quite what I was expecting but had some questionable things happening. Just be prepared for it to drag a bit. I have a few ARCs to get through that I should have read over a week ago they are Pretend for Me by Stephanie Napolitano and Bound Paths (book 3 of Compass Points) by Jillian Witt. Rather than finishing one of those I listened to Quicksilver because the audiobook just released and I read the book in August and was dying to listen to it. There is quite a bit of sassy banter between a few characters that I wanted to hear and for me it was totally worth it. Warning for you, it gets spicy. I also had two books come through from Libby and only have 5 days left before they go back so I started The Passengers by John Marrs and then I have Hidden Pictures which I bought the book on Pango so I could read along while listening to it but I have to do it before it gets taken away from me. I can't just reborrow it bc there are several others waiting for it. The I have our monthly book that I will save until the end of the month so it's fresh on my mind when you do the video on it. I planned on reading We Used to Live Here this month but not sure if I will get to it now.

Fiction: I haven't read any on that list and none in my Want To Read tab Historial Fiction: Same as Fiction. Mystery/Thriller: I read six of them. Out of the ones I read The Boyfriend was the best for me. There are 4 on the list I planned on reading at some point. Romance: I read two and only one other listed as wanting to read. Romantasy: I read 10 books listed and 6 on there I will read at some point. I have a couple downloaded in my audible but haven't listened to them yet. I love SJM but I did not vote for her book because it wasn't as good as Quicksilver or When the Moon Hatched. I voted for Quicksilver. Fantasy: I read 2 with 10 listed as Want to read. Sci-Fi: I read none listed but The Family Experiment is on my list that I want to read though. Horror: Read 2, with 7 listed as Want to read. Debut: Read none but 3 are listed on my Want to read. Audiobook: Listened to none, but have 3 on my Want to read (listen) YA Fantasy: Read 3, 8 listed as Want to read YA Fiction: Read none, 3 listed as Want to read. Non-Fiction: Read none, 1 listed as Want to read Memoir: Read none, none I want to read History/Biography: Read none, none I want to read So I didn't read much compared to what they have listed now (shocker). What I don't understand is how they are having people vote for books in 2024 when not all the books have been released in this year. I would think they would do the voting around the first week of Feb the following year to give people time to read any books that released in Dec and also for those who get books for Christmas. It kind of screws over authors chances if they aren't putting books that came out at the end of the year.

The Book of Doors was enjoyable! Emily Wilde was good too, but I liked Doors just a bit more.

I’ve been trying to read some of the fantasy I thought would be nominated so over read 11 of them, it looks like we’ve traded the Greek retelling phase for historical / literary fantasy somehow and I don’t think I like it. I’m so glad I read book of doors though, it didn’t sound like my thing but it was lots of fun

I also loved Bloom and DESPISED IWOHFAM this year. I think my arc review is the top review on GR for it rn but like man, how did it suck so hard? It's definitely in contention for my worst book of the year.

I loved Sorcery and Small Magics so much! I'm not sure I'm really into the FL edition.... EXCEPT THE ILLUSTRATED AND ANNOTATED CHAPTER so still deciding if I wanna pick it up secondhand for that 😅

Owlcrate isn't doing spoiler cards anymore. It's all online. You have to use the QR code on the inside of the box for it, which is also where you find what pages the overlays go on. I am annoyed that they don't fit in the book well. Like they stick out further.

Thanks for the video. I just finished this on the weekend and loved it but left feeling... uninformed haha. Sorry if I missed this in your vid or in the comments but I started writing down the morse code as they came up (which was fun) but thought it was a fairly random thing to include. However, it's probably a stretch but there are multiple references to characters tapping with their fingers on chair arms etc. I wonder if they (possessed or no) are communicating with morse code? I don't seem to recall Eve ever doing it though. Probably a stretch but I thought it was worth noting. Thanks again for the vid.

I loved both sides of the dust jacket honestly, but the reverse side is kinda reminiscent of 70’s/80’s fantasy novels so I put that side facing out

It's been disappointing forme, I tried the angels of elysium and it was 2 DNFs and a 3 star, the red palace was better but the best part of it was researching about the actual prince the book was based off of. I liked invocations but that was early in Oct.

Oh crap!!! I get the book only for Fairyloot so I didn't get the page overlays with the book 😭 I did like the new design on the dust jacket. The navy with the gold foiling looks really nice. I feel like it's less busy than the original and the digital edge came out nice.

Oh my goodness girl, you NEED to read An Ember in the Ashes! That series is so good and each book gets better. So many twists, you'll get a sprained neck. Go read them now 😂😊😁 Also. I loved the redesigned cover...not sure why, but I do. And I hope you like the series...🤞

"An Academy for liars" looks quite cool. I love that style of covers. I'm not a fan of that hardback. The bookmark holder is really pretty. I must admit, I keep most of my bookmarks in the middle of books (I'm reading multiple at once, because I'm unable to focus on one book for too long) I really recommend "Powerless"! (I mean, I haven't read it myself, but my grandma had, and she asked me to bring the next book right away. She's just so excited about it. She rarely ever asks me to bring any specific books). "Heir" looks interesting. I agree that the spine looks like it's missing some details. The images are nice; the edge is pretty. Oh I love what you just said, haha. "It's growing on me like a fungus". The hardcover is pretty. Endpapers are gorgeous. I like the front one more than the back one. --- Since the previous video, I have gotten both "Until we shatter" and "Sorcery and small magics". Quite cheaply; one of them was from a Polish re-seller so I got it in two days. I also just got the tracking info for my November Locked Library. I also got an Early Owl Invite for Owlcrate's sale and managed to get the mystery box before they sold out. The shipping price almost made me not get it (it was almost as expensive as the box itself), but I decided I will waste that money on books anyway, so there is no reason to not to get it. I also got the LOTR bowls, because they had them 50% off.

I really like what they did with the cover for Heir. It’s almost antique in a way. I don’t know how to describe it, but I hope I’m able to get this copy from someone. And the tarot cards are beautiful. I really like A Tempest of Tea, but haven’t personally received much merch for it yet, so I hope to see more at some point. 😊

I haven't had a FairyLoot subscription in years because I kept getting stuff for books I didn't know or didn't enjoy, but I'm going to have to track down a resale of those tarot cards because I did really enjoy A Tempest of Tea. 😅
